Could you do videos on hw to make singer impressions, I'm quite good to have voice impressions in general, but when it comes to singing, it tends to take longer and more practice to get the exact voice, which I know I can but would need some help, like right now I'm practicing godsmack impression on the song under your scar, and sometimes I get a close impression, but its not there yet. would be nice to have a serie on singer impression breakdown, just like the one with the caracters. Really got my self to help understand the different mechanisms of your throat, tongue, mouth, body .

Hi Discover! It's unlikely that Mr. Stoney will ever do videos on singer impressions :( The reason being that his mission is more to bring out the unique voice of every singer. :) But, we hope that all of the info he does give on the voice will help you in your endeavor of singer impressions! And, if you ever have any questions you are welcome to send them to Questions@VoiceLessonsToTheWorld.com or join our TH-cam live chats. Check out our Community Tab for more info! -NYVC

Hi Justin and VLTTW, thanks so much for this show, I love it and have been following for some time now!
I've been singing in a choir for about a couple of years or so and I LOVE doing it, but the director is starting to "take it up a notch" and I'm starting to struggle a bit (either complex phrases around my passaggio that cause me to break into falsetto or some strain hitting high notes consistently that I can feel at the end of rehearsals...)
I'm thinking about purchasing the vocal course but I'm wondering which level would suits me, since breathing support and relaxed voice shouldn't (!!! :p) be a problem for me, especially in 'chest' (I know you prefer Thyroarytenoid dominant!) range, but I think I still struggle with singing in 'mixed voice' consistently...
I know without actually hearing is difficult to say, but what do you think? I most certainly can't afford vocal lessons, that's why I've been following the this show and think about purchasing the vocal course in the first place! ;)
Anyway, keep up the good work!

New York Vocal Coaching Hi my problem is I download a vocal pitch analyzer, I have a semi deep and light voice, I tried a c#5 high note, but my vocal pitch analyzer app said its only c4, but I did it perfectly without cracking, why it says only c4 but I did it c#5? Is vocal range different to vocal pitch?

Hi Justin. I love you videos.
But I have to share this.
I have been interested in pitch history lately and thought the entire 432Hz movement was all new age people with crystals etc. But after much investigation, my experience playing and singing in a band with numerous singers of different gender over the cause of 20 years there is definately some truth to the "difficulty" of the 440Hz ptich standard. All singers I have worked with when singing pop/rock classics have had a tendency to strain when performing and pull chest and be slightly flat on the note. The only one that was not flat was a very bright soprano who sang in keys that were very relaxed for her. she was very energetic and would be a minute of a fraction sharp.
Back in 1859 the french set their standard to 435Hz as it was a standard that worked for a large range of different vocal fachs on opera form different regions and ages, and Verdi would not allow the pitches to go higher than 435Hz for his Requiem.
THe problem with 440Hz for my voice and for a lot of other singers, and now I will go out on a limb, is that is places the passaggio (vocal breaks) at a weird place in regards to the notes in the 12-TET scale.
I can always see on singers, particular male singers when they are singing notes at the difficult second passaggio, that the technical ones now that they need to shift early into head at that passaggio and they try to cover with different techniques to make the early headnote more chest like. It is very obvious to me when they are at that trouble note. The unskilled ones will "pull chest" in that note and not lay of weight.. Of cause you need to lay of weightas you approach the second passaggio but 440Hz just flips it over the top. At 435Hz you still need to do a minor transition on those two passaggio notes but when warmed up it is minuscule compared to 440Hz and a choir sound so much better. Opera at 442-443Hz modern pitch,, yeickss, not much body as so many tenors and sopranos have to shift to headvoice on a lot of notes.
The exchange of 435Hz to 440Hz in Europe is in my mind a regressive step. 435Hz is the upper limit to where most tenors and sopranos in a choir can maintain a good transition and maintain a certain note more in their mid register instead of having to shift to head. When you come down to 432Hz then the division on the notes and the passaggios becomes more logical. Suddenly my E4 note which is the most difficult note for my deep baritone voice in 440Hz tuning becomes a part of my stretched mid register when singing pop and rock music. No need to transpose a half key down with 432Hz (-31.8 cents). The entire 432Hz movement comes from the idea that C should be 64,128,256,512Hz and A4 is 432Hz if you use pythogoran tuning. With 12-TET A4 is 430.54Hz when C4 is 256Hz.
The weird part is that the resonance of tuning around 431Hz the notes in the 12-TET scale come close to the sound of my talking voice with notes in the chest register. The middle register becomes relaxed and I can easily include a G#4 with connected chords when I tune at 431Hz. At 440Hz that G#4 seem to jump into the next register. Even the less dramatic passaggio that connects chest and middle (around A3) is seemingly at 432Hz, not abrupt like in 440Hz. I think tuning to C4=256Hz or around A4=431Hz could have rock and pop singers when they perform live, not having to detune an entire half step, but instead detune around 35 cents being closer to the A than G#.
I know it is a bit artificial but I have tuned down with the program audacity 100s of different track. The result is always the same. The singers voice always sound more like their singing notes are en extension of their talking voice (if that makes sense). It rings more true to me when the voice is pitch down between -20 and -31 cents (~432.1Hz to 435Hz). Where the lower pitch at 432Hz prevents any early register shift at the passaggio ,which is also demonstrated by opera superstar
Also 440Hz is more problematic for male singers in contemporary music as men often sing much higher in relation to their talking pitch in rock and pop, have a smaller middle register in relation to women and therefore often get to sing those second passaggio notes a lot of the time.

Can you summarize this explanation up a little. I lost track near the end .

    • @andersbarfod3700
      @andersbarfod3700 8 ปีที่แล้ว

ups i wrote a complete assay. my point is that i strongly believe from my own 20 years of experience that modern 440hz pitch is too high for heavy voices.438hz is the highest they can go above the relaxed pitch of A4=432hz. The former European standard at 435hz is a lot better for getting a large choir to get a full even sound.
