+Ringa Sailo No one trained her to do whistle. She said in an interview, that it was something that she discovered and just played around with it, and she said that it's just always been a part of her voice.
TH-cam Passerby I'm sorry that's partly true but her mom is a classical opera singer and heard her speaking and playing around in whistle and trained her to better utilize control that part of her voice..
Justin your voice and vocal range are absolutely unbelievable! I hope your students are aware of how blessed they are to have you as their voice coach. I'm grateful for all the valuable information you share with us here on TH-cam. Thank you!
I've tried a million other explanations to hit the whistle range, this video is the only way that ever explained it to where I could do it. You're brilliant.

This is the BEST video on TH-cam about the whistle register. He has a pedagogical understanding of how to truly sing in whistle. Every other video on TH-cam is either squealing or flageolet. Whistle is completely disconnected from the other registers! Thank you, sir!!! I would also add that singing in whistle is like being double jointed. You either have it or you don't.
This video taught me to do it even before I finished watching it. Highest note I've reached so far is Bb6 while the note which I found the easiest to sustain is a G6 note. Holy cow this guy is a genius! Thank you for this, Sir!
@@NewYorkVocalCoaching I noticed a few things 5 days after I've learned it. I can hit higher notes with the inhale phonation compared to the exhale one. Highest note using inhale phonation is a Bb6 note while I can only hit an Eb6 with exhale phonation. Is it normal? And also, my falsetto and head voice seem to be messed up because it is harder for me to control it now. It now instantly skips to the 6th octave making me miss the 5th octave notes. I can still hit those notes with falsetto and head voice, but now with so much effort to lower my voice. I lost the resonance of my head voice. Please tell me if it is normal because it is bothering me. Will wait for your reply. Thanks!

I'm a soprano and I recently discovered I could naturally whistle up to an A6. The thing is I'm not able to control my whistles that well, because as I'm new to exploring this part of my register, I'm afraid I may not be doing it the right way and so I could be potentially damaging my chords. Oh my goodness, that series of instructions with inhale phonation is gold! I've been trying to access the whistle register on and off for a few years now (mostly off because it always felt tiring and I never got anything more than air and a veeeeery high but faint sound). Second attempt, and I made a clear, high sound I knew I've never felt produced that way before. Thank you!

Hi Leigh! Try playing around with how much "force" you're using. Often singers will try very hard, use a ton of breath, and tense up a lot when trying this. Consider different amounts of breath and try being gentler. That can help! Good luck! -NYVC
Seriously! I’ve been trying for 2 weeks. I have to sing an E6 and my teacher wants me to try to develop my whistle range so I’ve been watching so many videos and couldn’t get higher than a C6 and I had no idea if I was even doing it right. After watching this I realized I can relatively easily get to a G6 while inhaling sometimes. I still haven’t managed much while exhaling but I’m happy there’s at least a sound. I was kind of hesitant at first but just based on how it feels it seems pretty much like the feeling I’m supposed to be going for and it doesn’t feel very straining which I was kind of worried about. I do feel like I need a bit more air than exhaling but I think I might just not be strong enough yet. I’m very excited though, I don’t know how difficult it will be to change to exhaling but I still have a long way to go in controlling the inhaling so hopefully the muscle memory will help.
Hundreds and hundreds of performances by Maria Carey using whistle voice and all I keep seeing are comments about that dang Imagine song by Ariana Grande... Smh.
Thank you so much i was breathing out when whistling and i can barely hit 6th octave. I accidentally hit a Bb7 suddenly after learning to whistle while inhaling. You explain everything in simplest way and in most detail. Best vocal coach channel.
Not used much, but a serious high when you do it. Only done it in practices, once or twice. Fun as heck. Going low, low, lowwwww is fun too, but no where near the rush of the whistle.
Woah this is so unbelievably helpful!!! I have wanted to learn to use the whistle register for a while now to be able to reach higher notes in songs as well as increase my range. As a mezzo I find I can sing naturally high with my highest note without vocal fry natrualy being a D6. The only issue is even though I find it more comfterbal to sing up in the gods I allways find when it comes to whistle notes that I am unable to do it. Hounestly I think I have been trying to force it too much with putting allot of pressure on my vocals on the few times I do try as well, as tensing up. I don't try it often though as I am aware that my technique must be completely wrong and don't want to damage my vocal chords. This helped me so much to understand the way it should be used and knowing things like the vocals are closed unlike the vibrations in other registers. Hounestly a lifesaver!!! I just have to make sure I don't practice and experiment these exercises at 2 in the morning whilst evryone is sleeping 😂😂😴
After I watched this video,(year 2019)it only took less than 4mins for me to learn inhaling whistle and exhaling whistle... And now, I can sing using this register..😸share ko lang Just a student here in the Philippines😸
This is my first time seeing a video from you and after 0:49-0:54... I subscribed. Not because of the whistle, but something about it was entertaining. I like your personality. I've experienced some vocal damage and was struggling to hit my usual high notes (even some lower notes). I actually was thinking that maybe learning whistle will help me get my voice back, but I guess not. I really enjoyed the whole video though. Thank you.

Do this and also learn low inhales and/or subharmonic singing and I reckon you can get upwards of 6 octaves, if you include all types of voice :')
Nice! :) -NYVC

We're so glad this helped you! And ha! Yeah, 2AM might not be the best time! :) -NYVC
After I watched this video,(year 2019)it only took less than 4mins for me to learn inhaling whistle and exhaling whistle...

Thank you.
Welcome to the "Voice Lessons To The World Family"! :) We're so happy you're here and we hope our other videos will be able to help you. We're not sure exactly what you're dealing with, but it's possible that Justin could offer some direction for you depending on the information you have about your vocal damage. He has a Live Chat coming up in July if you'd like to join! More info in our Community Tab! -NYVC
