I believe that in the comics Gladstone's mom was blessed by a magic user with infinite good luck because of her generosity so when she had her baby he gained the good luck. Similar to how Rapunzel got her powers through her mom drinking the potion while pregnant.
@@wendiday1991 in THAT one his luck completely inverted on his birthday, making him the unluckiest duck in the entire world. Yep, tied with Donald. Unfortunately it also cured him of that hiccup in the same stroy

Ah yes, Gladstone's curse of good luck. Though I didn't exactly keep up with them, I love seeing all the characters from the comics in this reboot, expanding on their concepts and exploring the wildly different ways their original traits can go. Lowkey wish more TV adaptations would do that instead of either trying (and failing) to play it safe or throwing the original material out the window completely.
I love seeing the comics characters too! I remember being mindblown when Gladstone appeared in one episode of the old DuckTales. Happy to see him in this one too. I love how this show weaves the comics, the old series, other Disney stuff, and the new all together very well.
This show really gives a new appreciation for him. I have barely seen any classic Donald Duck and I still got nostalgic in the first episode when Donald freaked out over the staples.
While Scrooge is a greedy person, he’s also a strong believer in working for your money. Seeing Galdstone get everything without a day of work and casinos in general don’t sit well with him.
Scrooge utterly hates Gladstone. He and Donald have their differences, but Gladstone is proud of never having had to work for anything, ever, in his life and that pisses Scrooge off to no end.
Time to put my nerdiness to good use (assuming people haven't already thoroughly covered this by now): Gladstone Gander is Donald Duck's cousin, thereby making him Huey, Dewey, and Louie's cousin as well, though the triplets initially call him "uncle" as a term of endearment because they, at first, really like him. Like Scrooge McDuck and the triplets, Gladstone originated from the Carl Barks Donald Duck comics, and as you can tell from this episode, Gladstone is blessed (and in some ways cursed) with impossible good luck in such a way that he literally benefits from doing next to nothing. As in this show, Donald and Scrooge hate Gladstone, Donald for being jealous of Gladstone's good luck while Donald is saddled with all the bad luck, and Scrooge because he worked hard to get to earn where he is while Gladstone manages to live comfortably wealthy without putting in any work at all. It's worth noting, though, that the triplets also hated Gladstone int he comics as well, because he was a smug jerk who frequently flaunts his good luck whenever he can. As a result, Gladstone was often an antagonist to Donald and the triplets, though he was by no means a bad guy. Gladstone actually made a few appearances in the original 1987 DuckTales show as well, though he was considerably nicer and more introspective of his luck, and at the end of one episode he resolves to not be wholly reliant on it. This show strikes an interesting in-between with the comics version and the 1987 cartoon version of the character, not quite as much of a jerk as the comics, but still a lot more smug than his 1987 counterpart. What I find particularly interesting about Gladstone, apart from all the gags one can get from just how much the universe bends over backwards to give Gladstone a free handout, is just how having this gift affects someone. Gladstone has gone through most of his life never working for anything, and thus building up no skills of his own, thus when he's suck in a situation in which is good luck can't help him, he's forced to call for help from his family. Gladstone feels that because good things always happen to him, that makes him a morally good person, and thus is shocked to see his family lose respect for him when they see his true colors. Because while he's not completely heartless (even he's disappointed to see Scrooge willingly hand over Donald to Liu Hai, and immediately asks how they're going to rescue him), he is incredibly self-centered to the point of prioritizing himself over the rest of his family, then acts like he's the good guy because he believes his good luck is what got them out of the situation. And then there's that brief moment of introspection where he realizes his faults and momentarily decides to try and be better... only to immediately snap back to his old self a few seconds later. And really, why wouldn't he? If life isn't going to present him with any obstacles that can't be dealt with using his good luck, what incentive does he have to ever really grow as a person. That, for me at least, fascinates me in terms of his character.
In this show, Gladstone is actually much nicer than in the comics. In the comics, he acts very entitled due to his luck and looks down upon others, especially Donald. In fact, seeing Donalds bad luck kicking in and seeing him fail makes that version of Gladstone have quite the malicious joy. There are even a few storys where Donald has success for once and Gladstone tries his hardest to ruin it.
No. Comic Gladstone only looks down on Donald. He's indifferent towards Scrooge but has good relations with the rest of his family. Gladstone as portrayed in this show is actually very accurate to the comics, as he was charming and friendly despite his arrogance. He's kind of like Barney Stinson.
Gladstone doesn't look down on Scrooge or the other family members in the comics. Even when it comes to Donald it's kind of inconsistent. Gladstone is more ignorant than malicious most of the time.
Great reaction. Concerning Gladstone: Your reaction of "how can anybody be THAT lucky?" was amusing and very understandable Honestly, he just IS. There have been answers created in the past, but they came well after his luck had been established as one of his defining characteristics (Which it was NOT from his first appearance on, but still very, very early on). For anybody who has read Disney Duck comics Gladstone is a well-known character. He is about as lucky as Donald is unlucky, proud of not having to work, and often Donald's rival (including for Daisy's effection). - He also is, ultimately, not a bad person, just a somewhat annoying one (especially for Donald). He also was in one episode of Ducktales87, in which he got tricked into stealing Scrooge's number 1 dime and had, for most of the episode afterwards, his good luck turn bad. Concerning LP's adventure: Sadly we'll never find out what sort of adventure Launchpad got himself into. Or at least we haven't by season 3, one can always hope...
Gladstone is cursed with crazy good luck he inherited it from his mom and a lot of his family dosnt like him because he’s known for being a bit self centered and just relies on his luck all the time
Fun fact: "gander" is the word for a male goose, just like "rooster" is for chickens or "stallion" is for horses. And yes, Gladstone is a goose despite being Donald's cousin, and no I have no idea how that works
I remember a comic where Gladstone actually went to Donald to learn the ways of bad luck, because going through life with no challenge made him depressed.

Donald has crap luck but never gives up and Scrooge has spent *every waking moment since he was ten* earning his fortune. Gladstone’s existence of coasting through life and being a moocher is a literal offence to Scrooge, who’s lost Della, seen Donald struggle in life, and earned EVERYTHING. Notice, for example, that Scrooge never scolds Donald when he goes off on a rant at Gladstone because Donald is right.
Gladstone is like King from One Punch Man, and Batman, who has no superpowers but can beat so many superheroes with superpowers. Mr. Plot Armor. The total opposite of Stormtroopers. Lol
