Before you touch anything it's imperative to pop the hood, turn off ignition and remove the key and shut the doors. Then wait 10 minutes for the ECU to completely 'go to sleep' and then remove the negative (ground) cable from the battery. If you do that, you will not have any issues with airbags, immobiliser, etc upon reinstallation.
great video! Q: I have an MK1 TT as shown in vid. I had a problem with temp and fuel gauge: Fuel jumpy and temp always close to 100c. I changed the 2 step motors. Result: Temp, when engine is at warm and should read 90c, reads just below 90c. Fuel goes to slightly above half full even with full tank. RPM and Speed all running correct. I installed the new motors correctly. What can the problem be? Any help much appreciated. Thanks !!
These had an issue with the main CPU chip. They are encrypted so you need special hardware to clone them, also a lot of labor desoldering and soldering in a 256 micro pin chip. Easier route is simply installing a newer year gauge cluster and doing the immo and mileage programming.
My cluster had 4 plugs connected to it. Might be due to a different configuration of the car's options. It's a 2001 German model. Additionally there were 3 screws on the bottom of the plastic trim that had to be removed.
Hello! I have a cluster with a bad center digital display. I bought a new one. I am hoping I can swap them out temporarily - send the original out for repair, use the "new" one to drive temporarily. Is this possible?
Hello! Some Audi vehicles have "immobilizer programming", so the vehicle would not start unless it it programmed to the vehicle. You can try to install it to see if it does not require it, but many Audis have it. My temperature needle increase up to 110 for no reason . Does any one know why the reason is? And also my digital display in the meter board doesn’t show any its just red what is the reason for it and what should i do for it .
My RPM needle just started sitting at 2k today for no reason, but it isn't idling high. It is still normal, so I don't know what is going on with my needle. Do I really just need to get in there and push it down?
Hi. If anyone else reads this - is that upper plug in the back for a hands-free microphone, or does that wire feed a small speaker that sends chimes out of the front of the cluster? I've actually heard people say one or the other, but it can't be both :)
My code reader diagnosed my instrument cluster and said : 00771 fuel level sensor short circuit to earth. That would mean the fuel gauge motor right? Or could be something else. On your experience. Thanks much for the video very helpful for diyers like me :)
mine does the same along with Temp sensor g2 short to positive and another code showing Temp sensor to ground. Any help. aso ive changed the sesor 3 times help
After I replaced the LCD, the screen display really recovered. But only "speedometer" will not work! "Temperature" "oil quantity" and engine speed can be operated. "ABS" lights up after the engine is started. What is the problem?

I'd also recommend covering the plastic behind the steering wheel with masking tape unless you don't mind scratches.
