  • How to remove the instrument cluster from the Audi TT Mk1 Dash.
    It was a lot easier than I thought to remove this and reinstall it but needs a little patience and all the info in advance if helpful.
    The reason I did this was to replace the troublesome and pixelated LCD screen that seems to affect all Mark 1 Audi TTs at some point.
    A big thanks should go to Paul at PBH Services who undertook the LCD repair. Very quick service and the screen is perfect.
    You can contact Paul at www.pbh-services.com
    Steps covered:
    Battery disconnection
    Lower the Steering wheel
    Removing the various screws from the fascia end panel and lower dash.
    Lower dash removal (although you do not need to remove fully)
    Removing the screws from the Instrument cluster
    Removing the wiring loom plugs from the rear of the cluster.

      Hi Andy. I’m glad it helps. Drop Paul
      A line, he should be able to help. I saw on the FB group someone replaced their cluster with a 2nd hand one which will not work. I think the immobiliser is built into the cluster somewhere so the car won’t start. Probably best to get yours refurbed mate! 👍 thanks for watching!

      @@andycharger Well this is weird, I went out to start the removal process today, removed fuses 11 and 15 to check they weren't blown first, fuses were fine, refitted them, and now the cluster is working fine (bar the missing pixels on the main red LED screen)... how odd. At least I can use the car now, until I *really* need to repair the missing pixels.

      @@AndyTurnerUK great to hear the cluster now works at least! Maybe there was a slight loose connection or a bit of corrosion on the terminals. Getting the Pixelated screen is definitely worth doing sir! Enjoy your working dials! 😀

    Now I know what they went through at the garage to get my cluster out!!! Had mine replaced in December, it makes reading all the warning lights and issues so much easier hahahahahahaha. Great Vid Andy, everyone with a Mk 1 TT will need this for sure. Amazed that you got the door open wide enough in the garage. That must be a double garage hahahahaha

      Sorry for my late reply. I have only just spotted this. My advice is to get it to one of the cluster repair specialists as it could be a variety of things. If you drop me an email I can put you in touch with a very reputable one who specialises I. These repairs.

    Thanks for the guide. I followed it and it worked really well. However, I am in the situation where after getting my instrument cluster back from repair - the engine immobiliser is on and won't switch off. Any ideas anyone? I've tried everything on the forums.

    • @andycharger
      @andycharger  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Hynds. My advice would be to speak to the cluster repair guy you used. The immobiliser is built into the cluster and is paired with your key. if it is no longer working with your key, the symptoms will be that the engine will fire and start but then immediately cut out. You will see a car and a key symbol flash on the the cluster. One scenario (however unlikely) is you have been sent the wrong cluster back! More likely it has somehow become unpaired with your key as part of the repair. Sorry that is not a fix for you but might give you a bit of direction buddy!

      @@andycharger HI, thanks for the swift reply. I got on the phone to Cluster Repairs UK and they were extremely helpful. They actually gave me a 'fool proof' method of getting everything to talk. Yes, my symptoms are exactly as you describe (starting - then cutting out & flashing key symbol on dash). I'll let you know if I get the car fired up and send you the guide to publish in one of your vids if you like 👍

    Thanks for this video - about to do mine tomorrow. Quick check, you say in the video that four screws have to be removed from the side, a bit later you have taken out 6/7 and placed them in the cardboard template ?

    • @andycharger
      @andycharger  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Simon. Yes, there are a lot more bolts holding the end of the dash together but not all need to come out to remove the instrument cluster. I was just removing random bolts from the end!

  • @davidpowney4785
    @davidpowney4785 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Andy, when getting this done don't the mileage and all other data get deleted or do they come back as they were? Also is there any issue with the immobilizer and the keys working as they should?

    • @andycharger
      @andycharger  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi David. It looks like my reply never appeared so here goes again! I think the mileage is stored "off cluster" (maybe ECU or similar) or it is somewhere not affected by the screen refurb. Mine came back reading the same as it went. With regards to the immobilizer, that too was fine. I know one part of that is in the cluster and the key acts as the, well, Key! So all should be good. These repair guys know their stuff and must have swapped 100s so you should be in safe hands. Let me know if you have any other questions!
