  • Find out the proper way to calibrate your Audi TT instrument cluster's gauge needles and learn about potential calibration issues caused by shipping carriers. We'll demonstrate how easily these gauge needles become uncalibrated and also, how easily you can recalibrate them if you receive your refurbished gauge cluster with needles out of place. Watch until the end to get a glimpse of the various tests we run on each Audi TT instrument cluster & see our video for removing the 2000-2006 Audi TT cluster from your vehicle!
    After sending your 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, or 2006 Audi TT instrument cluster in for LCD screen repair, we take extra care in packing and shipping your instrument cluster back to you! Unfortunately, most shipping carriers still do not handle our packages as nicely as we would hope, and the Audi TT gauges do not stay calibrated as well as other instrument clusters.
    Please note that we cannot provide you with the pins used to bench test your instrument cluster. You must locate wiring schematics to determine which pins are used to power the cluster on.

    If we talk about specifically Audi TT MK1 - the miss-calibration is NOT related to the shipping carrier handling. The real problem is that RPM and speedometer pointers are made from crap plastic and with the time the plastic degrade and cracks - the exact place where the pointer goes onto the stepper motor shaft is simply slips. So instead of going with pointer stoppers on the face plate or other similar ideas the ONLY correct solution is simply to replace those 2 red pointers. But assuming you can't find a source for those - you can simply fix the cracks on the pointers (with a hot air, or glue or whatever you can do) and forget about that problem.The reason why fuel and temperature doesn't have that problem is because they are made from other kind of plastic which doesn't degrade. However pointer motors for those little gauges fails frequently causing constant miss-calibration and can be easily replaced. In the very rare cases firmware goes bad.

    I know this video is old but need ur help. My speedo is out as recently took it out to fix fuel pointer motor and didn't realise about the speedo potentially being knocked out of calibration. From watching ur video am I right in thinking all I need to do is wind it anti clockwise and position it on ZERO and that's it calibrated?

    • @TaninAutoElectronix
      @TaninAutoElectronix  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey John!
      You have to set the gauge to zero when the cluster is off, then set the ignition switch to the first click (not fully on) and the gauge should move (sometimes the needle moves up a little sometimes doesn't and it stays at the same place). The goal is for the mph needle to be at zero when the first click of the key is on.
      If it is not on zero, then turn off the car (disconnect the cluster because even though the cluster is off it still has some power so the needles are stiff so the cluster needs to be disconnected) then redo the process until you get it at zero.
      Send us an email if you need anything else! contact@taninauto.com

    @taninautoelectronix I'm not sure if you will see this, but I am all the way over in the UK. I just replaced the speedometer needle as it would not more. This has helped, as the needle will function until you hit 30 mph. At speeds in excess of 30 mph the needle falls back to 0? How do I fix this?

      Unfortunately thats a clear sign the cluster is bad and needs to be replaced. We can't source the replacements for the Audi TT's, so you'd have to visit the dealership. Sorry about that! I hate seeing situations like this where we can't be more helpful :(
