I went down the hill on my residential street facing forward and saw my life flash before my eyes. I know the neighbors thought I was losing my mind as I yelled the whole way down. I’ve never prayed so hard in my life. I sat on the curb for a good 20 minutes to gain my composure. Why did decide to learn to skate on my forties. Thank you for tutorials, you’re my skating shero

How to Roller Skate Downhill by Dirty Deborah saved my life yesterday! I just just just started skating and my husband took me out as he skate boarded and as we were going along he took me down this hill by mistake and I tuned myself around because I watched this video the night before and couldn't believe that I had to use it!! THANK YOU SO LOVING MUCH! YOU'RE OUTSANDING Deborah!!!!

I was definitely in panic mode yesterday when I found myself going down a lengthy hill, facing forward and just telling myself, “You got this!” I made it safely but I’m here because I knew that was probably luck and I want to be better prepared next time. Love the ladder analogy and I will definitely being practicing this form now. Thank you!

You and Indy Jamma Jones are the only reason why I decided to skate again after I broke my wrist at a friends birthday party while skating for the first time. I was so scared to skate again but then I found your amazing tutorials and I found Planet Roller Skate and I was motivated again and now I try and skate everyday. Yeah I wish I would have seen this video about 24 hours ago. I came barreling down a drive way forward grinding my toe stop on my new skates and I had a decision to run into a new truck or an old truck. Hey ❤ I recently started watching your videos from all the way in England, and before I know it I'm ordering skates online which are due to arrive this Thursday!! By the way I love these videos and your amazing personality and teaching skills - Thank you so much!! 😍❤ Skating isn't much of a cool thing here and I'm kind of nervous about doing it in front of other people 🤷♀️

I just discovered you. I was never taught to skate. I was a street skater from childhood into my late teens, just skating the streets; steep hills, curbs, cracks, traffic etc and I had to figure it out on my own. We didn't have protective gear back then but I always felt safe because I used my instinct. I was also very comfortable on my skates because I skated every day and I have a dance background. Later I found a rink, but I preferred street skating and doing parkour moves on skates; jumps, spins....it's so free being outside. Loving your training videos, and I also enjoy watching the black community and their incredibly cool skate groups, and now I've pulled out my skates again years later, my muscle memory kicked in and I'm skating again, after a long time. There are no rinks where I'm at, so I'm looking forward to the local basketball court for now. Gratitude for sharing your knowledge.
I love the way you talk hahaha so much energy makes me so happy! Thank you for all the information I just ordered my skates can’t wait to get started :)
Debbie, I am a beginner and you and the best in teaching how to skate out of all the other you tubers....no doubt! No offense to the other you tubers... one love. Debbie u are so descriptive and explanatory to the tee. And the way you reference certain moves to be looked at in a different perspective to help understand really works. Love it...love u...love skating. I’m 39 and I’m gonna skate and dance my tush like I am a teen. In a safe way of course😝😁😉
Just came on to tell you I am 48, just got back into skating and tried this. It freakin works!!! I mean, I know you know that, but I am totally stoked!!! 😁 Thank you!!!! You are amazing! 👊🏼
God bless you! I want to feel the wind on my face while skating again, just the way I used to when I was a little girl. I'm so thankful I found your TH-cam channel. LOVE the way you teach!!!
This is gonna save my life! Today I launched myself into yards two times because I couldn't carve down the hill going forward! 😂 Thank you for this, I'm going to practice this asap!
I have watched this video all the way through at least four times, and finally it's clicking when I'm actually going down a hill that would otherwise be scary! Thank you so much for all your tutorials. I swear every time I skate I think "what would Dirty say"!
Dirty, I am so happy that you have this TH-cam channel! Every time I open TH-cam, I end up watching lots of your videos and learning a lot. I revisit your videos over and over in order to practice. You're so clear about every movement, and you explain every detail in full extent! Your tutorials are concise and I find them to be very helpful. Plus, you're so charismatic! I can't put into words how much I appreciate all the time and effort you've invested in this channel. Thanks to you and your team. ♥
You are such a great teacher! Your explanations are so clear, it really helps! I started watching your videos a few days ago and now I can’t stop :) You will be with me every time I go training outdoor. Thanks!!
The skates you’re wearing in this video are SO cute I love them!!! Also I started with your beginner rink videos so I could feel ready to try my local place without embarrassing myself too much and now I’m just watching everything you’ve made for fun haha
I don’t know how I missed this video! Great tips Deborah! I’m terrified to try this, but I accept this challenge! I’m tired of being petrified when I pick up speed going down a hill lol I can never predict how steep it will really be until it’s the moment of truth and I have to plan a quick escape 😅😂
just went downhill today for the first time after ten years off not skating thinking i could handle it, i was so wrong though halfway down i felt my life flashing before my eyes and entered fight or flight mode and yelled 'PIVOT!' before leaping for the nearest bush to break my fall. luckily i only got out of that with only a few bruises (and leaves stuck in my skates). thank you so much for videos like this im definitely going to practice these techniques before challenging The Hill again.
I’m on day 5 of learning to skate and skating every day in May. Your videos have been amazing!! Day 1 and 2 I was just trying to survive, but by today I was able to actually feel my edges and transfer my weight intentionally!! I’ve been having my husband watch the videos too so he can remind me of what I’m trying to do when I start to panic 🤪 Today was the best day yet! I feel like I owe you a drink or 10 because of how amazing your videos are and how clear and simple you make the instructions. I tried to find FVSC merch to support you guys while you’re closed but didn’t see anything on the site.... thank you thank you thank you for helping me get through this quarantine and for giving me the tools to have fun learning to roller skate ❤️❤️❤️
Oh my gosh you have no idea how much this helped me. I used to squat down and clench my teeth while going downhill. I was so terrified. Your video is so so comforting and helpful. It is still taking me a while to get it, but its coming along. Thank you so much! I am literally going to binge all your vids because I am a beginner to out door skating and oh my gosh it is so daunting. Thank you!!!
You're such a great teacher! I find understanding how to copy movements difficult, but you're so easy to understand, you really think of everything. And the energy and confidence is infectious! You make me so excited to learn roller skating :)
Feels like you’re speaking directly to me. When this video came out I thought hell no I’m not doing that & skipped it. Well yesterday I was going down a hill that started to curve and a cyclist appeared. I panicked and leapt towards my death resulting in falling so hard that my pads slid to my calves, shredding my pants and knee. Needless to say I finally watched this video & will practice once my pride heals. Thank you for providing the best skating tutorials out there!
Had a great day today!!! I finally managed to go down a big and rough floor hill for the first time going backwards and I didn't fall over not a single time, this has been my biggest target for the last weeks and I am feeling very proud, I went very slow though but I will keep practicing to improve my speed, thanks again Deborah for your great help, your videos are the best 👍🏻❤️
I love your teaching style, enthusiasm and repetition. Ordered my skates today (I haven't skated since the 90s...) and I can't wait to try everything I'm learning in your videos. So grateful to watch this all in advance, too! There are aaaaa lot of hills where I live.
New to skating late in my 40s and your videos are a life changer! I am a proud student of Dirty Debbie. Thank you for normalizing roller skating FOR ALL!!! I'm having so much fun
Can't wait to try this! Your videos are just wonderful Dirty! ❤️ I bought my first pair of skates around two weeks ago and I've been watching your tutorials every other day, you're a ray of sunshine ✨ my mum and my two friends have now bought skates too and your instructions have us flying around on them already 💜 thank youuuu x
Gosh, I needed THIS! I am a beginner, one month in and live a few blocks up on Alamitos... So when I go to the beach this is my access - and Ive been using the stairs out of fear and no knowledge of the fundamentals needed to access a bold decision like this. You cover everything a few of us have been needing! THANK YOu for speaking to a beginner, and making sure we are SAFE whilst referencing technique. No one like you, Deb!
Love your teaching style!! Very clear, entertaining and easy to follow. This technique has had me very intimidated but now I'm ready to give it a go. Thank you so much!!!!
Great video! Love your energy and kindness, you have amazing teaching skills, very clear to understand and super informative. I haven't skated for almost 30 years and now I'm very excited to get a good pair of roller skates to start practicing all your lessons. Thank you so much, you are truly an inspiration!
Tried this the other day on the last 1/8th of a hill in LB. when I knocked my knee in toward my front foot i ended up turning. so now i can see how you lead in the direction of the heel as you have said before. it is challenging to control and I feel very unstable, but will keep trying. Thank you! Now I'm teaching my 13 year old friend all the things you have taught me this Quarantine. Spreading the love
You are such a good teacher Debbie!~ Your descriptive details are well worth it! Muscle memory will kick in and always becomes natural eventually! More backward videos please outside.
Love this lady... she's given me so much confidence to try things (initially in the house first lol) and excel in the course I took last year. Thanks Dirty
looking to buy my first pair of skates this weekend, and even though i have 4-5 years of 'skating experience' in the form of ice skating lessons, i know that this is super different. your videos seem super helpful, and your personality makes it all the better :D
This video is literally a treasure. I ate it big time a couple days ago going downhill cuz I panicked. Tore my hands up cuz I don't have wrist guards yet. (Currently being shipped) Any tips on going down hill with one of the sidewalk bump plates at the end?
I have a video coming out this Friday that talks about stopping at the end. Just make sure you dig that toestop into the ground hard before hitting the grate.
What a great teacher!! Your videos are nice, encouraged me to buy me skates and learn. Everyday I learn more from your tutorials and put it on practice. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge ❤️
Subscribed! I started with inlines and thought I could never learn how to properly use my quad skates, but these videos are amazing! I'm sure I'll be skating all around my neighborhood in no time! Thanks so much!!☺
Love this! I skate up hill to my local park, do some drills, then pick my bail out spot for the way home when I’m out of control down the hill 😂 Time to practice!
Good morning Dirty Queen of skating! I am a new follower and I live in Germany. Well, I bought my first pair of skates and I will be wearing them in the week end - feel so excited! Your videos are so inspiring and you make things look so easy! I won't start my little skating adventure by rolling down a hill, of course! Just felt to tell you that you are a very inspiring teacher and that you explain the moves with simplicity. Thanks for sharing all these wonderful tips and tricks - God bless you! Big hug from HD! @@Dirtydeborahharry Thank you, I will go through your play list and watch more videos, I love them. I watch a lot of your videos but honestly when I first saw this video I immediately thought you were crazy and that there had to be another way. So I avoided this video and a baby hill for a while.. Improved my skills then finally decided I was ready to not be a punk and try going backwards downhill in my neighborhood(on a section of a big hill). It worked. It needs work but I went back to that baby hill and nailed it. Thank you for all your videos.
I loved that tutorial so much. It’s something I’ve been thinking about as a new skater who lives in a very hilly area. It just seems impossible.. but this video gives me some tools to work with. Now if only our roads were as smooth and pothole free 😅 but I’m totally trying this somewhere with a baby hill to start. One of the first injuries I had was a downhill section with a 90 degree turn at the bottom. I was in way over my head and bailed into the grass lol 😂 that took a dump on my skating experience for sure haha. Thank you! You’re the best. 🥰
Fantastic! Can’t wait to try it out. Wish I’d know of this last week when I was going down a slight decline. I ended up going too fast and bailed to the grass. Didn’t fall, though!!
Thank you for this awesome video, I am soooo scared of hills, I yell if I start going faster and my husband comes to my rescue 😅😅😅 I got my skates this month after 20+ years of no practice 😀 I'm learning balance again. Regards from Costa Rica 🇨🇷

Glad it was helpful.
Oh my lanta! You’re GOOD! I needed this lesson! Thank you so much my friend! Love you! ❤️😘
Wow, thank you!
This was soo dope I need those skates during quarantine.
You are such a great teacher! Your explanations are so clear, it really helps! I started watching your videos a few days ago and now I can’t stop :) You will be with me every time I go training outdoor. Thanks!!
YAY! I am so excited for you.
The skates you’re wearing in this video are SO cute I love them!!! Also I started with your beginner rink videos so I could feel ready to try my local place without embarrassing myself too much and now I’m just watching everything you’ve made for fun haha
i live in a very hilly area and wiped out big yesterday, this is so helpful. going backwards is so practical but yet i never thought of it
I don’t know how I missed this video!
Oh I am sooooo happy to read this and I am doubly happy that you got your hubby to "coach" you. Skating makes great memories.
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I live for these kinds of comments. Success on both our parts!
You're such a great teacher! I find understanding how to copy movements difficult, but you're so easy to understand, you really think of everything. And the energy and confidence is infectious! You make me so excited to learn roller skating :)
Your helping me get better everyday!! Today I’m gonna try and get out of my parking spot to the street. This will help me so much!!
That is awesome!
It's amazing how the toe stops hold up with all that dragging! Love the glasses. ♥
You're really cool, thank you for teaching us how to skate!
Thank you so much Deborah for all the tricks you give us, it’s helping very very very much! Love u, Nancy from Montreal Canada 😎😍🤩
New to skating late in my 40s and your videos are a life changer! I am a proud student of Dirty Debbie. Thank you for normalizing roller skating FOR ALL!!! I'm having so much fun
You are so welcome! I am happy to share what I know :)
Glad you like them! You guys have just formed your own skate gang!
Started rollerskating about two weeks ago and absolutely loving it*-* Your videos are soooooo helpful!
The 4 dislikes are from "cool" cyclists hahaha
right!? LOL! They were yelling at me while filming LOL! What are ya gonna do.
@@Dirtydeborahharry cyclists are rude in my experiences outdoor skating so far...
You are so welcome!
I really enjoy this technique, I use it all the time!🙏💗
dude I as literally looking for this exact video whem I got a notification... Thanks Dirty D!
Hope you enjoyed it!
You are such a good teacher Debbie!~ Your descriptive details are well worth it! Muscle memory will kick in and always becomes natural eventually! More backward videos please outside.
Thank you very much. I will make more backward / outdoor videos.
You explain things so well. The example about going down a ladder...makes perfect sense!
Thank you! I think so too! It dawned on me one day and I was like "yes!!! Finally a way to describe it!"
Just in time! Thank you so much for keeping us entertained and learning new things
Subscribed! I started with inlines and thought I could never learn how to properly use my quad skates, but these videos are amazing! I'm sure I'll be skating all around my neighborhood in no time! Thanks so much!!☺
Awesome! Thank you!
You are simply awesome and you're great at teaching skating by breaking down every bit piece by piece. Lots of love from the Netherlands ❤️
(Heidelberg)
Dirty I'm sooooo glad I found your channel, I haven't skated since I was in my teens and I'm now 47 trying to relearn it, I thought oh it's like riding a bike you never forget, wrong for me I got me a pair of skates and went to the park to skate and oh boy, I found out fast I had to relearn how to skate so I thought humm ok TH-cam should have videos on it and I found a bunch but I love yours the best because you keep it real and show step by step how to learn how to skate and I kid you not everyday I go to the park to practice, I say out loud what you say and people look at me like I'm crazy lol I don't care I'm determined to learn again thanks to you for giving me the confidence to do it and i encouraged my friend to skate again, shes going to the roller ring today to skate. Thank you so much Dirty for all you do to teach people how to skate giving them the confidence they need to go for it. I found your channel a few days ago and can't stop watching your videos, your awesome! My name is Elaine!
Hello Elaine and welcome back to the wonderful world of skating! Take a look at my "Dirty Talks" playlist for some encouraging words from me to you :) I am so happy that you are skating. I can feel your enthusiasm while reading your comment :)
@@Dirtydeborahharry Thank you, I will go through your play list and watch more videos, I love them.
That's one thing I always had since I was a child is determination, my family would always tell me I can't do something and it made me so mad I said I'll show you what I can do and I always did. Now I'm determined to relearn how to skate and I'm going to do it watching your videos. Thank you so much for all you do, it really is so very helpful to me, I always hear you say practice, practice, practice and I said yes that's what it takes alot of. Well off to practice I go!
Always the best instructional videos and what a difference the mic makes. Keep em coming Dirty, you ROCK!
Omg you're so amazing! Thank goodness for ur existence 👑 i was so nervous about trying hills and after watching this i feel so confident that i can do it! Baby hill first☝🏽 hahaha!
We are trying outdoor skating and love your videos.
That is awesome!
Oh....you are so awesome Dirty! You have the best instructions!
The panic is REAL! Thanks for the video, so helpful. From newbie in the U.K. 🛼
Your videos are the best! Thank you for all of the quality content! Hope to see you around Long Beach!
Hey, I just wanted to let you know that I love your videos. Super informative, super kind and the energy is on top. I'm writing from London, UK and I'm a 24 yo guy. I've been roller blading for a while but I wanna try roller skating as well and who knows, probably it'll be my thing. Would you please recommend a type of roller skate that is affordable, good quality and available in basic colours? Thank you very much!
@@nats.5441 OMG Thank you very much for your answer! It is extremely helpful!
This video is so helpful, I spent all day being scared of hills and now I can’t wait to practice this tomorrow!
You literally have taught me so much. I always wanted to learn how to skate and I’m learning at 25 lol but I’m so happy you make these videos 😭🫶🏼
Jajajaja hills are my nemesis!! I'm in panic before to see a hill xD but now I'll try this ❤❤ thanks debrah 🌹🌹🌹🤗🤗
Dirty! you are the best!!! The one time I tried to skate downhill I couldn't look back and keep straight. Your video makes so much sense! Now I know what I did wrong. Stay strong and safe!
Vans skates, nice and probably really good for street skating 💜 I love the skates, love the baby blue cap and I love you Dirty... You make this look so easy! Blessings 💕
I am beginner at age 55 yrs old , love your video lessons
Awesomeness!! Thanks from NC!! I can't wait to get my skates!!
