Dirty, I really need to thank you for your kindness in these videos. You speak to every single one of my insecurities as a skater (maybe even as a person) and you tell me that it's ok to be scared, just don't stay there. You can do this. You're not weak. You're just new at this. Man, I've got to tell you... I'm crying. Cuz this is hard. Potentially getting hurt or looking stupid is hard. But you're kind and speak directly to those lies and tell them to buzz off. That's so necessary.
I skated outside in an abandoned parking lot today and felt really good. I started watching this video bc I want to improve. But when I see how far I've yet to go I feel frustrated and start giving myself a hard time. You won't let me stay there. So thank you. Honestly, thank you.
I'm going to strive to keep going, even when I'll fall, even when I feel stupid. Thank you, Dirty.

I'm still looking for somewhere outside I can skate at all :(

Omg, Dirty, I really needed this tutorial! The past few weeks, my family and I have been all skating together on the streets almost every day. All of them, my husband, Gryphon, your 7 year old dedicated fan, down to my little 5 year old, are amazingly confident and stable. On the other hand, I’m terrified of every tiny little threat of outdoor skating, starting with that driveway slope! For a long while, I was too scared to skate around the neighborhood, so I’d walk it to the park to skate with everyone else on skates. The first time I decided to accompany them on skates, I was so scared that I had muscle aches from the tension, just from skating about 1.5 miles! In the rink, no problem, but throw a tiny acorn in my path and I’m all shaky 😂
Anyway, I’m a bit better now. The only thing to do is just keep on practicing. Like Gryphon says, I’ve got to “look fear in the eye.” 🤣 But please, do keep the outdoor skating videos coming, if you can. I imagine they would be helpful to tons of folks with no rink access right now.

I love your videos!!...I am 48 years old, I live in the 209 Stockton/Modesto area. Skating has dissipated here. I recently decided I want to bring back the skating vibe to the 209 but unfortunately there is no where here to skate. No beaches, no rinks...all we have is roads, parking lots and basketball courts. I just started a lil skate group, we meet on weekends when we skate wherever we find is available. I have been sharing these videos with our quad squad group chat and we LOVE THEM! I am hoping to someday see a skate rink open in this area again whether it be outdoors or indoors but somewhere to get our skate groove on. In the meantime we are skate loiters..LOL

The first time I went down a curb cut I was with a friend of mine who’s been skating far longer than me and her advice was pretty much just ‘bend your knees, stagger your feet, and look ahead’ can’t say it didn’t work lmao

I haven't been on roller skates in over 25 years, only inlines at the rink and it's been years since then. Just ordered a pair of Moxis and I'm super excited to get outdoor skating and putting this knowledge into practice!

Ugh, was gonna get skates, but...we literally have no where to skate in my area. Dirt gravel roads, the skate park is closed and currently being monitored by police and same with school lots. 😔 I love these vids cause not only are they educational, they put us right there virtually. Thank you!! Dirty Deb and Indy and Pidge! I wanna be in Cali!! Lol

Hi Deborah, greetings from Somalia, your tip about putting weight on otter wheels is Game Changer! Thanks a lot.. I'm terrible at balancing, also seems i fear taking any stepforward and surrender the moment i feel imbalanced.. I can't even roll except on thick rag, regular carpet isn't working for me.. got the protective gear but thinking of getting turtle butt pad as Extra ..
