    I’ve been having debilitating sciatica nerve pain on my left side all the way down to my outer left ankle. I wake up in spasm every morning between 4-5am. This pain is no joke. Hugs to anyone dealing with this. ❤

      I had the same problem after a spine injection...it caused the piraformis in the butt area to pinch the sciatic nerve that caused my outside leg muscle to top of toes to spasm. Would jump out of bed and stand on my toes. Went back to Dr. and the PA did a cortisone injection in piraformis in 2 places....BINGO...GONE. Might want to check it out...these stretches really help too. Hope this helps! 😊

    I just want to thank Father in heaven for you and your wisdom you share with us .I had back surgery over 3 years ago and Iam fused from sacrum 1 to lumbar number 5.     I have been suffering lumbar stenosis for 45 years 😢 due to a car accident, been rejecting surgery for the past 20 years hoping to find help without the surgery, for yhe past 10 years I have been dealing with sciatica, tried acupuncture, pt, massage, pain medication, epidurals, etc., etc. I found this video today when I was crying and praying for relief.     I have been in pain for almost 2 months, I went to my GP first who treated me for 4 weeks with Voltaren inj and pain meds twice a week, he then referred me to an Orthopedic Specialist who had X-rays and MRI taken and could not see anything out of the ordinary. He had me lay flat on my back and only get up to go to loo for 2 weeks and referred me to a Neurologist and would have forwarded him the MRI as well. That was 2-3 weeks ago, and I still have not had any feedback regarding an appointment or diagnoses. I received the link for your stretching exercises and started following them seeing that the pain was getting worse and I was not getting any help from the Drs.
    I am so thankful for your video!!! For the first time in 2 months the pain is starting to subside, I can move around for longer periods and as soon as the pain comes back I do the stretches again and I can immediately feel a difference!!

    What a great video.I have been diagnosed with multiple bulging disc in my lower back. The pain is life altering. I can't even describe the amount of constant pain I endure. I have a lot of pain around the lower spine area and my right butt cheek is constantly numb and the pain starting below my right knee to the top of my foot is awful. I did these excercises and stretches this morning and I was amazed. Really. It has cut my pain lever by more than half which is huge for me. My range of motion has vastly improved and bending over is doable again. Even the pain level from just doing nothing has vastly improved instantly. I'm very greatful!!

    I have always been healthy and pain free but about 2 months ago something happened and my leg has been ON FIRE with pain, like unable to walk in pain. I have watched hundreds of videos and stretches, tried tens unit, CBD, ibuprofen.. walking, resting, squatting. Nothing helped.
    I watched this video and stretched with it for only the duration of this video and my pain is 75% gone. Thank you, SO SO MUCH for posting this!!!!!

    Thank you, Dr. Alan Mandell! I watched the sciatica release video standing up yesterday morning, and by that night, I could hardly feel that painful discomfort that had for five days! I was pleased to find this one today, seated stretches for sciatica.     Thank you so much. I have all of these problems and have had two surgeries. The chronic sciatic pain is killing my will to enjoy life. I have lovely aqua physical therapists, but then they hand me a sheet of at home exercises and say "do these daily" and never explain how to and ho long to do them.     I had issues with the left side piriformis muscle and I had gotten information to do stretches (like the ones your video explains) while I was in the pain. I almost did not take that advice, because it was so painful to do. But, I badly needed the relief and I followed the advice. It has been 10 years and I have not experienced this issue since then. FYI - After the issue resolved, I continued the stretches over the years and I still periodically do them. This is an awesome video on this topic, Dr. Mandell!! 🎉Thank you, Thank you!🎉

    Thank you so much for this help with the piriformis I've been having pain since 2011 the exercises will help. My back from arthritis the fibromyalgia and uterine prolapse makes it difficult to exercise but I try to get pain relief any way I can!! Thank you!!😢😊

      Some fasting can help a great deal with arthritis and fibromyalgia. Also has many other benefits, including for the immune system which is also what the body uses to repair the damage of aging. Some of the many benefits of doing occasional extended fasting: Blood clotting is reduced and blood clots and arterial plaque are reabsorbed into the body. High blood pressure is lowered to normal levels very quickly while fasting. Fribrosis/scarring is reversed over time.
      Fasting increases nitric oxide release.
      Vitamin D plasma levels are increased as fasting improves metabolic health, and vitamin D in turn increases autophagy.
      Telomeres are lengthend and fasting also increases anti-aging Yamanaka factors.
      Fasting stimulates phagocytosis, the ingestion of bacteria, plaques and viruses by the immune system. It will also remove any 'foreign material' that is not supposed to be there.
      After 72 hours or more fasted, your body recycles as much as 1/3 of all immune bodies and creates new ones, rejuvenating your entire immune system.
      Fasting can help with MS, Depression, BPD, Autism and seizures.
      Thymus is regenerated, which suppresses aging and renews the immune system. The thymus also plays a vital role in fighting cancer.
      Weight loss from daily caloric restriction has 1/4 to 1/3 of the weight lost as lean tissue while many studies show fat loss from 36 h fasts without losing any lean tissue! The hunger hormone ghrelin also lowers with extended fasting and rises from dieting.
      Blood sugar and insulin are lowered, allowing white blood cells to move more freely throughout the body and do their job. Ideal blood sugar is around 80. Some viruses activate glycolosis (the release of sugar in the body) and clinically it has been shown that decreasing glucose metabolism in the body weakens the influenza virus.
      When you move out of MTOR your body shuts down the building blocks of the cell which are used to produce organelles and proteins. This means the mechanisms needed by viruses to replicate are by and large unavailable when you are in a deeply fasted state.
      What breaks a fast? Anything with protein or carbohydrates in it will break a fast, though if the amount is tiny you will go back into ketosis very quickly. Most teas and herbs are OK. Most supplements and meds will either break ketosis directly or contain a filler that will. Many medications are dangerous to take while fasting so you may have to talk to your dr. about discontinuing them during a fast.
      Does fasting lower testosterone? No, it raises it when the fast is broken by increasing lutenizing hormone. Fasting also increases insulin sensitivity, which helps with muscle building.
      Fasts of 36-96 will not affect short term female fertility or affect menstrual cycle. They also may increase long term fertility, especially in women with PCOS.
      The hormone Leptin is an immunomodulator that keeps the body from attacking itself and obesity causes leptin resistance. Fasting very quickly reduces leptin resistance and leptin levels and one day of fasting can cut your leptin levels in half and gets your immune system working properly again!
      Does the body preferentially prefer glucose as a fuel? No, except for brief periods of very intense exercise, your body mainly burns fats in the form of free fatty acids. Your brain also prefers to burn ketones at a rate of around 2.5 to 1 when they are available in equal quantity to glucose.
      Fasting stimulates the AMPK complex and activates autophagy. Autophagy (literally self eating) will cause cells to recycle foreign matter such as viruses and kill cancerous and senescent cells. AMPK does many helpful things in the body including activating the body's antioxidant defenses.
      Deep ketosis virtually eliminates chronic inflammation in the body. This can offset the life threatening symptoms of viral pneumonia which effectively kills you through inflammation. This also creates BHB ketones in your body, which help your immune system and anti-oxidative system, especially in the brain. When not in ketosis, the brain can only burn carbohydrate, which produces a great deal of damaging ROS the brain has to deal with.
      It increases mitochondrial function and repairs mitichondrial DNA, leading to improved ATP production and oxygen efficiency and thereby making cells better able to fight off infection. Increased mitochondrial function also has the added benefit of increasing your metabolism and cancer prevention!
      When you fast, this stimulates apoptosis in senescent or genetically damaged cells, which destroys them.
      Fasting also releases BDNF and NGF in the blood which stimulates new nerve and brain cell growth. This can help a great deal with diseases like MS, peripheral neuropathy and Alzheimers.
      In fact, the biochemical regulator of BDNF production is beta-hydroxybutyrate, which is the same ketone the body produces to nourish the brain while fasting.
      Fasting also increases telomere length, negating some of the effects of aging at a cellular level.
      A fasting mimicking diet for 3-5 days in a row also provides many of the same benefits as water fasting. FMD usually has 200-800 calories, under 18 g of protein and extremely low carbs.
      Exogenous ketones can aid with fasting, making it easier in healthy people and allowing some people with specific issues to fast in spite of them without worrying as much about hypoglycemia.
      Children, pregnant or nursing women should not fast for periods longer than 16 hours. People with pancreatic tumors or certain forms of hypoglycemia generally cannot fast at all. Type 1 diabetics can also fast but it is more complicated and should be approached with caution as it could lead to ketoacidosis. Those with Addison's disease may also be unable to fast without liberal use of exogenous ketones, depending on severity. If you experience extreme symptoms of some kind, especially dizziness then simply break the fast and seek advice.

      Hi Dr Madell, l fell on my butt some years ago while going down a hill. Now am having lower back pain. I did a MRI and l was told that l have to have an operation done as the L5 & S1( think those are the ones) was damaged. I am scared but also hoping that there may be another option like therapy. What do you? think?

    I've been struggling with paraformis spasms for 5 months barely being able to walk. I've done these stretches for 4 days now and the pain has gone down substantially. I didn't know muscle spasms can be related to living with high anxiety stress and fear for years so I have also started really taking care of my mental health and I very much believe that the 2 combined are what is helping. Thank you for this video. It has been a huge blessing.

    Thank you Dr Mandell 😊 I have a pinched nerve due to chronic DDD & scoliosis I've lost 2 1/2 inches in height over 20 yrs. This is the 2nd time this nerve has been pinched I went through weeks of therapy to have it to release. So when it happen again I knew most of the exercises and stretches. These stretches that you just showed are part of my routine. It has going been 4 days now praying it releases soon.

      agreed....the Flossing my chiro told me not to do...and it is beyond painful to me. These I can do and felt good. I did do traction at the chiro today....but i know i need to stretch my left side...
