Hey! My name is Hafu Go and I'm a dreamer. For the past year, I made it my life mission to study patterns of success for students. I traveled across the world to interview students from top schools like Harvard, MIT, and Stanford. These college tips are what I wish I knew before starting my freshman year. Don't make the same mistakes as me.
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This video has one goal, and that's to decide the BEST NOTE TAKING APP for the iPad Pro 2020.
    The competitors are:
    Goodnotes - $7.99 USD
    Notability - $8.99 USD
    OneNote - FREE!
Goodnotes has the best writing experience.
Notability has an audio record function that's unbeatable for lectures.
OneNote is free yet still beats Goodnotes and Notability on numerous categories.
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Comparison Between Notability vs. Goodnotes 5 vs. OneNote
    GOODNOTES 5
    PROS
    Highlighter self straightens
Eraser auto-deselect is actually a genius feature
    Smooth
    Templates
    Selection tool
    CONS
Images can only stay on 1 page
    expensive
    pages are NOT continuous
Folder organization is a mess - notebooks can't be organized by lecture, you have to put bookmarks
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
No matter how good the writing experience of the app is, the iPad can never match the feel of notebook and pencil for me. But after installing the Paperlike screen protector, who's our sponsor today, my notetaking experience has dramatically improved. Although still not perfect, it feels a lot better. Get your Paperlike here: paperlike.com/Hafu1
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    NOTABILITY
    PROS
    Audio Record Function
Page viewer - I can move pages around easily
    Good organization system
    CONS
Note taking writing isn't as smooth as Goodnotes
UX isn't as good as Goodnotes
    No colorful covers for notebooks
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    ONENOTE
    PROS
Pen bar at the top that you can customize
Infinity pages - you can write on the left or right of PDF, no need to worry about making new pages
Notebook organization is pretty good cuz you can have one notebook for 1 Class, each lecture would be a separate Page
    Real time sync with PC
    Click anywhere to type
    More optimized for computers
    FREE!
    CONS
More lag when writing, there's a flickering
    Extremely lagging image inserting
Notability is better than Goodnotes - Get it if you ONLY use iPad
OneNote is better than both if you study on Computer AND iPad

@@TheGreatAquiles I've been using a screen protector for the last couple of days (not long obviously) and it is so much better than writing on the glass. It is not the "Paperlike" brand. It's just a well reviewed similar product off Amazon. You can get four tips for $9 so for me, even if it does wear down the tip after 6 months or so, it's worth the $2.25 to replace the tip. The writing experience is that much better.

I have just bought an iPad Air and was searching for a good note taking app. I am a user of OneNote since 2013, so I am very happy discovering from your review that OneNote is better than the popular iPad apps good note and notability except of course for the lag which I believe I can manage. Based on using these apps for years, here's the best features imo:
Notability: sync audio recording with notes
Goodnotes 4: great to store pdfs of books/textbooks
Goodnotes 5: if you take both typed and hand written notes this app makes it pretty easy to do both
OneNote: being able to zoom out on the document (worst feature: super laggy)

Goodnotes5 has a great Outline/Table of Contents feature so that if you did want to put all your lectures in one notebook, you can split it up subject within the notebook. Also I find that Notability’s subject and divider sections as the only form of organization are really restricting as compared with GoodNotes you can have folders within folders. One Note is great for classes that are more text based.

I just bought an iPad yesterday after purchasing an iPhone and MacBook within the last 2 months, smh. I honestly didn't need the iPad it was more of an "I always wanted one purchase" so I went ahead and pulled the trigger. One of the benefits of getting it though (to me) was the ability to take notes, especially for work. I do daily reports everyday, since I started work I've been doing them with traditional pen and paper. I've always felt guilty about the amount of paper and ink I consume especially since the reports aren't even that long. I have to say that the notability app is AWESOME so far. I haven't even really explored it yet but I have a feeling it's going to be well worth the price. I couldn't even figure out how to edit a PDF that I had on my Pages application but Notability made it super easy. Thanks for the video, it really helped me make an informed decision.

3:58 It doesn't have to be organized only by notebooks. You can import PDFs independently of a notebook and you can also make folders within folders on Goodnotes. For example, I find it useful to have course folders (ex PSY230) and then within that folder, have folders for lectures, notes, exams, etc.

I've been using OneNote for about 2 months now, and so far it has been amazing imo. The lag isn't really the biggest ordeal for me, considering the host of other functionalities it offers, but one thing that REALLY bothers me is how QUICKLY it drains ur iPad battery, since I assume the continuous syncing takes a lot of energy. Other than that, fantastic.

I have enough money, but I’m young and I want to save for when I go to college. I know the app is pretty cheap, but I’m cheap as well, and I don’t want to buy an app I might not use... Is it more efficient to take notes on iPad or on paper??

    • @fullmetalkakuja5675
      @fullmetalkakuja5675 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

tmochi I think it’s more efficient on the iPad. But also it depends on what you want to study in college. If you want study something in STEM, then an iPad would be a great choice since making diagrams and stuff like that would be a hassle on paper.

    • @Ethan-sh4rh
      @Ethan-sh4rh 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

tmochi honestly I’m in 10th grade and I’d rather do notes and work on iPad(for chemistry and math only) because it can be a pain in the ass having to have a million pieces of paper on stand by and having a clutter in my binder. With the iPad, one it can be organized better, 2, it’ll save paper so we don’t waste it and lastly with the way society has slowly been relying more on technology in the past ten years this is going to come in handy for me atleast

    Hey Hafu,
I am about to enter college later this year and all your videos have been very helpful not only regarding college but also plenty of other things in life! I do have a macular degneration disease causing me to lose my sharp vision in the center of my eye. This kinda gives me a hard time to choose how I should take my notes, basically what I am worried about is that I have to write very big if I was going to use a tablet. Do these apps provide enough space next to the current page so you can add as much information as you want? I know you can't really imagine what my situation is like without more detail but maybe you know something helpful :) its worth a shot.
And I really appreciate your videos, I usually never updated videos on TH-cam or getting involved in comments but I am gonna start doing that.

Endless page is my nightmare in OneNote, I hate it and also missing possibility to see and work on all pages at once like you can do in Documents by Readdle. In fact, there is no app at this moment on the market that combines all good features in one. Every single app has disadvantages that make me jump from one app to the other looking for improvement , and it’s annoying 😣. But thank you for your review and nice video🌹
