  • Earlier this year, I reviewed Notability & GoodNotes, and compared their features to tell you which one was better at that time. Both apps have since released major updates, so it's time to revisit this ongoing war.

Cloud storage costs like 50 cents a month if you share it with another person. Why would you have to pay for the calendar app? If you need another job to pay like 3 dollar a month then maybe you should find a better job.

So they can train their AI on your Expenses, AI feature should be optional and people who don't want to use should be given an option to turn it off...They wont Listen To Community And Implemented Useless AI feature, Better switch to Another One-time Purchase App Which doesn't force you to create Account..

As someone who tried both, I fully switched to notability for the better writing experience, in GN the pen is weirdly laggy while in notability it's so much smoother. Another thing is the way I can write continuously between 2 pages in my notes without having to split my notes between them (gives me more space btw). These things are not mentioned here in the vid (honestly unfair).
Ps: the favorite tools are back in notability ^_^

What’s it like?? I am a carpenter and i am always using a note pad and pen to quote jobs/write notes about a job I’m visting, then I get home and go through all my written notes and add up all materials etc. then do a little sketch of the job on paper, then do a quote using a app called joist which is great. Do you think I’d benefit from notability?? Can I add certain notes to the calendar so say I won the job could I put the start date in my calendar and attach the notes for that job??? Hope that makes sense. Cheers

    • @Paperlike
      @Paperlike  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

Yes, there's a couple ways you can do that with Notability. If your note is final, you can export it as a PDF and add it as an attachment to your Event on the calendar.
If you wish to continue taking notes on it, you can just share the Note as a link, and add the link to your Event on the calendar. This way, every time you want to open the Job on your calendar, you'll have instant access to the Notes through the link.
      Hope this makes sense 🙃

Like what you said in 16:25, Goodnotes 6 added what Notability had which I liked: the ruler, dashed and dotted lines, colour coding and the eye dropper tool. The new linking tool in GoodNotes 6 is super useful, though I wish they had put in a pencil/ribbon tool in place of the eye dropper. Rectangular lasso like in Notability would also have been worthwhile. A great review. Thanks 🙏🏻

So now, if you have kids who are dependant on Goodnotes because of the school, and if upgraded to Goodnotes 6 one need to pay for each kid license. I was a huge fan of notability for years. My favorite feature was the favorites bar. But that is gone now. And i also didn’t like the organization of the folder with the dropdown menus. I’ve been using goodnotes for about two years now. I love the folder organization and thats about it. If notability brought back the favorites bar and added the option for folder organization i would switch back because at that point they will be far greater than goodnotes in my opinion.

I tried both in September 2023 for note-taking on the iPad. Goodnotes was waaaay too cluttered. There were all these options to customize pointless things like notebook covers. And the file organization system was in the form of an icon view, which I found cluttered. By comparison, Notability's UI is minimal and simple and easy to immediately understand and use right away. The files are organized in a simple list view. Much easier!

    Hi everyone,
First time having an iPad here. I have been watching a lot of note-taking apps and tried to consider which one is the best to use.
I have seen a lot how the updates that turn Goodnotes 6 into a mess with the $30 thing. But as a first timer, does the GN6 would be a good app for a purchase or should I choose another app. Because desspite the lagging and everything it is still one of the best from GN5.
I am considering either Noteful, Onenote, KiloNotes, etc. But still haven’t figured out yet, like there is so many of them.

That's difficult to know. It really depends on what you really need it for the most. If you're looking for something that is very easy to use, Notability is actually a great choice. GoodNotes is great but a bit more complex, with a steaper learning curve.

As soon as you take your finger away, you notice the font "thickening" and becoming distorted. Notice that. It makes reading very tiring. Notability doesn't do that. I totally get that. I mean, transferring notes as is, will be difficult as GoodNotes and Notability do not communicate with each other. I'd simply
export Notes as PDF and upload in the chosen app, it's not ideal but you'd have all your backlog in one place.

In the video you mentioned that the "toolbar" in Notability stop existing. But this is for a reason, when you see the features section and tap the arrow to go to the ruler and the laser pointer, next to it there's a configuration tab called "toolbox" where it lets you re arrange tools and ALSO duplicate a pencil, pen, highliter or eraser!!! so its pretty much the same thing as the "toolbar" because you can simply tweak a pen and duplicate it :)) your welcome!

Hi there, thank you for pointing this out. And Mea cupla on both topics 🙏
In regards to quick notes, I wanted to emphasize the fact that GoodNotes offers MANY options for Notebooks, and that process feels more like a commitment than with Notability. With that I forgot to mention that you can just double tap the + button to open a quick note.
Regarding notes side by side, this was a honest mistake on my part. As I ALWAYS use my iPad with Stage Manager, I could not open GoodNotes notes/folders side by side in-app... It would open them with stage manager by default. Whereas with Notability it does open notes side by side in-app whether Stage Manger is on or not. Sorry for that. I'll make sure to correct that information in a next GoodNotes video :)
