Doing the intermittent fasting from past 3 weeks and have lost 5 kg and still continuing to loose. Started eating my dinner at 6 PM instead of usual 9 PM and having that 16 hours gap before consuming next meal , stopped eating sugars completely, started having smaller portion sizes and good amount of protein. Never felt lethargic or lazy due to less food intake and do 1 hour walk 3 days a week and 3 days weight training. Thanks for giving the science of intermittent fasting. Getting closer to my dream body every day inch by inch. :-)
Hi, I have a question, I eat my last bite for the day at 8pm by night and have my first bite not before 9 am in the next morning. Does it mean I have been Intermittent Fasting? I know the duration has to be around 16 hours or so but still in my case its like around 12 - 13 hours. But with this comes another question- I think most of the people has a routine like this unknowingly that it is something called Intermittent Fasting, so like every normal person is Intermittent Fasting?
I feel the most important benefits would be: 1) Being in a fasted state allows the body to autophage (clean up) senescent cells (your old cells that have accumulated junk protein products and have now stopped reproducing). Senescent cells are associated with ageing, and may be precancerous cells. Multiple studies, including a 2009 Nature review article, have looked at the association between fasting, aging and cancer. Several proteins such as SIRT1 and and HUR are known to be involved, and although the complete bio-molecular pathway is not yet identified, but current findings are promising. This is all related to the studies showing that calorie restriction (therefore fasting) reliably increases lifespan 30-50% across diverse mammalian species (rats, dogs, etc). 2) Being in a fasted state is when the recycling of old and defective mitochondria occurs. Mitochondria are your cellular power plant, there are thousands of them within each cell, and they convert glucose into ATP, the energy molecule uses by intracellular processes. Similar to senescent cells, old mitochondria have accumulated damage to their DNA as well as degraded proteins and, when defective, they produce more reactive oxygen species (ROS) than clean energy (ATP). Overall, it seems our bodies are great at clean up and healing on a cellular level when they aren’t busy breaking down food and converting it into new proteins or fats.

hey following dr. berg, good. I am a South Indian, from my child hood we eat only two times a day. one in the afternoon and one at 8pm. The breakfast concept is adopted by Westerners. Our ancient Indian culture says 2-3 meals a day and complete fasting once in 15days (ekadasi) to cleanse. Anyway liked your video.
Lost 10 kgs last year ...16:8 pattern...Just skipped dinner. Reduced carbs a bit ...Didn't cut them out (that's keto). Stopped sugar mostly (except on birthdays). So grateful I found IF. Never felt better. I have two children. Dr. Stem Ekberg's youtube videos really helped me.
Ranveer, yaar its not just the physical fitness knowledge that you are spreading. Trust me, there is a feel good factor I feel whenever I watch your video. and I watch your videos daily.....A Big Thumbs Veere.
Yup... Modern day diet hack truly.. I have tried IF only for the last 1.5 months and can see drastic difference in my weight. Everyone has actually noticed my postpartum weight loss.. which I initially thought would have been very challenging to lose
Thanks ..lots of ppl think this is a waste having their own old concepts of weight reduction ..but I can say it's so important to do a read over how actually body loosens fat...thank you for this channel . ..may it reach out to millions more getting more aware of their bodies.
BeerBiceps Hey man, I've liked your channel since a while. However, I disliked this video because I think it is spreading misinformation. Most people have metabolisms ( the sum of their catabolic and anabolic activities) relatively within 100-200kCal of each other. It is physiologically impossible for you to "boost" your metabolism or "burn more fat" by following any diet. You literally cannot increase your hormone levels to surpaphysiological (the dose at which say having higher HGH or Insulin or Testosterone actually starts making a significant difference) doses unless you take exogenous hormones. It's statistically impossible and not in accordance with human physiology. Unless you have a metabolic disorder which affects your Thyroxine levels or a GI Disorder like Crohn's which affects calorie absorption; NO Diet is going to burn "more" or "less" fat. It all comes down to a thermodynamic deficit which will cause your body to metabolize adipose or muscle mass for gluconeogenesis. Summary: All diets work for regular people . All you need is a calorie deficit. No diet works better than the other one physiologically ( ofc ur ability to follow a diet makes one or the other better) I do have a B.S in Human Physiology and currently am in medical school so I'm not some random stranger talking about something he doesn't know. So please man, fix your video since I hate when people read up a few studies on the internet and wikipedia two terms and start spreading misinformation. Your channel has a wide audience.
Annsh Bhandari I don't think he ever denied that calorific deficit is required to burn fat, infact he emphasizes it. secondly when did he say this improves your metabolism? Calorific deficit > Meal timing. the point of the video was that apart from calorific deficit , meal frequency and timing can be manipulated to optimize fat loss and restrict muscle loss on a deficit. what you heard : 'Skip breakfast and you'll improve your metabolism and lose fat magically since your hormones get fixed ' that is absolutely not true. lesser insulin spikes are any day preferred, to deny that is foolishness. I don't understand how you have not heard about intermittent fasting being a medical student. really makes me question our modern medicine , which treats the symptoms more than the root cause. Fun fact : Look up autophagy, glucagon , studies on meal frequency and timing . autophagy is where the body heals the cells in the absence of food. to blatantly state this video is wrong is a disgrace to rightful information and the modern studies which are cited. Come out of your comfort zone nutritionist /doctor bubble and embrace other things open mindedly. how do you know the studies in your so called schools are not misinformation? they were based off of lab experiments and clinical trials too. I really pity your future patients.
IF really working for me . As a 28 years old female...I lost 5 kgs in one month and still the process is going on. Today From 68.2 kgs to 62.8 kg . target 55kg in nov end.

You needn't necessarily skip breakfast. Just change the placement of the 8hr window in which you consume your calories. Whether you have your meals between 2-10 pm or 9am-5pm, it's still IF. I've been practicing intermittent fasting for 1.5 years now, and I've also been following the principles of Ayurveda. Ayurveda states that it's best to consume all meals before sunset, as your digestive power weakens after Dusk. Following IF and eating all meals before 5pm is one of the most powerful changes I've made in my life.
Very well said but in todays busy world its a little hard to mantain , it was easy during lockdown days , but after getting back to office and work or stiludies 9-5 is hard

Let me tell you guys I did intermittent fasting on 2013. I was 87 KG then. Started on February. After 45 days I was 74kg and after 90 days of Intermittent fast I was 65kg.. I used to eat between 6pm to 10pm..6pm snacks and 9:30pm dinner. That's all. Usually I go office by walk which is 6 miles a day. So I did not do any excercise.

Thank you so so much for this video Ranveer. I was interested in IF but was worried about loosing muscle mass and getting low on energy. Very useful video, you didn’t just explain IF but also lined up all the necessary information which is making my life easier. I don’t have to go through all of videos to crosscheck and be doubtful of what I decided to take up now. And good to see men and a lady both posing in the thumbnail.
Very informative video. I have started 16-8 hours IF fasting but the only difference is I sleep while I'm fasting because I work at night and sleep during the day time. My fueling window is 9PM- 6AM. and fast throughout the day.
From what I have read, Insulin is THE major fat storing hormone in the body. HGH and insulin work oppositely. When we wake up in the morning, our insulin levels are at its lowest and HGH at its highest. That's why it's recommended to do a fasting workout in the morning for fat loss, coz if u eat something your insulin is gonna spike up and your body will be less likely to lose that fat. HGH helps burn fat, while insulin restricts it. Plz explain with reference to your video at 5:53.
Manan Sachdeva he's talking about Insulin Sensitivity, not Insulin per say. HGH enhances the sensitivity of Insulin to act of peripheral tissues and mobilize fat.
Top Ten health benefits of Intermittent Fasting and Time Restricted Eating 1- Increases insulin sensitivity 2- Promotes weight loss without counting calories 3- Lowest triglycerides 4- Lowers blood pressure 5- Increases HGH 6- Reduces inflammation 7- Up regulates autophagy 8- Prevents type II diabetes 9- Reduces cancer risk 10- Increases longevity
Hey.... My self Nishant. I am following Intermeetnt Fasting for about 3 months. It is the best way to increase your HGH as well as Testosterone, also it has a great health benefits. Thank you for Informing this good information to our community. ..... JAY HIND
i think we should not skip breakfast because it is the morning start. i do support IF but i think we should start it from 6pm evening to morning 10am then it will be easy to do and best way to do because many people sleep immediately after eating then our body takes it whole sleep only to burn the food we ate. so my suggestion skip dinner.
Thanks Beerbiceps for the video. This IF phenomenon sounds amazing. This immediately got to my mind that Ramadan is coming up and I will be fasting anyway for 16 hours, so its a good time to start but just one question, for our fasts in Ramadan we are not allowed to drink water also, is it okay if I dont drink water throughout the day?
Yes.... Thanks to this guy i lost around 10 kgs with just intermediate fasting and resistance training....... Intermediate fasting is best for weight loss.... How i used to do it.... Did you do cardio or lifting also?
What is your result now?!
hey following dr.
In particular nirjala ekadasi ( dry fasting) for one day in a month
Yes yes yes yes......lunch is most important meal, not breakfast
If all our scientists worked on what and how Indian culture works(not religion they both have separate meaning)....our India will shine harder..
Absolutely, In Haryana also we do the same thing since our childhood days.
Good to see you put this video 3 years ago! I started IF in 2018 mid lost 27kg in a year gaining lot of energy,,.

Were you doing 16/8?
Lost 10 kgs last year ...16:8 pattern...Just skipped dinner. Reduced carbs a bit ...Didn't cut them out (that's keto). Stopped sugar mostly (except on birthdays). So grateful I found IF. Never felt better. I have two children. Dr. Stem Ekberg's youtube videos really helped me.
Ramazan is all about intermittent fasting and its essential for our bodies to get detoxify as it decrease the chances of cancer.
Subhah ut kar jaanwaro jaise khatee ho or 7 baje baad chicken mutton khate ho or ramzan is all about intermittent fasting 💩💩
I love you yaar 😍

+Siddhant Singh hahahaha love this comment
No diet works better than the other one physiologically ( ofc ur ability to follow a diet makes one or the other better)
I do have a B.S in Human Physiology and currently am in medical school so I'm not some random stranger talking about something he doesn't know.
So please man, fix your video since I hate when people read up a few studies on the internet and wikipedia two terms and start spreading misinformation. Your channel has a wide audience.
looks like those parents and grandparent got some neighbours to dislike too!
Annsh Bhandari
I don't think he ever denied that calorific deficit is required to burn fat, infact he emphasizes it. secondly when did he say this improves your metabolism?
Calorific deficit > Meal timing.
the point of the video was that apart from calorific deficit , meal frequency and timing can be manipulated to optimize fat loss and restrict muscle loss on a deficit.
what you heard : 'Skip breakfast and you'll improve your metabolism and lose fat magically since your hormones get fixed '
that is absolutely not true.
lesser insulin spikes are any day preferred, to deny that is foolishness.
Siddhant Singh hahahaha
You are an inspiration...

I used to eat between 6pm to 10pm..6pm snacks and 9:30pm dinner. That's all. Usually I go office by walk which is 6 miles a day. So I did not do any excercise.

Also Insulin does not only store fat it has hundreds of other uses.
My father is a doctor and he told me that insulin is a muscle building hormone
Starting it from today just wish me luck 🤞

I can easily get used to intermittent fasting because a fast in ramadan is for around 16 hours. (and i fast in Ramadan.
16 hours, are you sure??
It's a little over 13 hours.
i think we should not skip breakfast because it is the morning start. i do support IF but i think we should start it from 6pm evening to morning 10am then it will be easy to do and best way to do because many people sleep immediately after eating then our body takes it whole sleep only to burn the food we ate. so my suggestion skip dinner.
On IF from last 8 years. I am 35 and I can give any youngsters in 20s run for their Money.

Thanks Beerbiceps for the video. This IF phenomenon sounds amazing.
