Thank you for helping me in changing a corrupted mindset.. Do you recommend these practices for all ages..I have kids that I feel should be prevented from going down this horrible modern corrupted dietary path. Kindest regards,
My father is 94 years old.. He’s just recently, the last few years, eats something when he wakes up.. He’s always been a omad guy and skipped breakfast and lunch.. most of the time he ate before bed.. but he did drink beer in the evening. He still mostly eats omad.. He really doesn’t like to eat 3 times a day.. says it makes him sick.
Losing weight for me started with realizing that being hungry is NOT an emergency. I had to remind myself that hunger is normal and I wasn't going to die without food for a few hours.
I started an intermittent fasting lifestyle four years ago, and I’ve never looked back. I’m in the best health of my life. People emphasize the importance of breakfast being the most important meal of the day, and I do agree; I just eat my breakfast much later each day!
I was HUGE on eating breakfast, until three years ago when I realized it wasn't necessary. What freedom it is not having to fix it and clean up afterwards. I have my coffee, save time and I'm good to go.
Just completed my first fast (65 hours). The second day I had some periods of hunger but they weren’t too bad & disappeared in about an hour. I’ve been on keto & IF for about 6 weeks now. It’s been nothing short of a miracle! I was using a cane to walk because of crippling osteoarthritis in both hips that cortisone shots & physical therapy couldn’t help. ALL pain is gone. I walk normally - no more cane. Hallelujah! I had been thinking my old age was going to be filled with pain & suffering until I died. Nope. My old age will be great.
Drink 2 liter of water with 2 tsp KCl, 1 tsp NaCl and 1 tsp of bicarbonate for electrolytes as you fast or with your keto or carnivore diet. Potassium also keep you from not getting hungry. If you eat you can cut dwn on your NaCl in your water. Good job!
I have a question for you, ok let’s say you did the main fasting, now you are doing your regular fasting. During the bourse of not fasting, can you eat dried fruits. To me there is this confusion that one is for losing weight and one is for fasting. If you fast let’s say 18-6, does it matter if you have good carbs or this whole thing is about low carb and fasting. I want to know that during the 6 hours of not fasting, can you have dried fruits? Can someone answer that please. Thanks 🙏
@@dondoit3336 dried fruits have a lot of sugar and none of the filling water that hydrated fruit has. What are your goals? Do you have insulin resistance? If you are trying to heal IR, fruits are going to negatively impact your health goals.
Can someone tell me please, does it matter when your 18 hour fasting begins ? Can it be at late nights. Because I sleep late, wake up late, and don’t eat anything until 6 pm or so.
Update: thank you all for your well wishes and encouragement! I'm sticking to intermittent fasting and am down 183 lbs! I'm at a normal BMI now and feel amazing!! I've been fasting, 20/4, since January. I've lost 115 pounds so far. I also do 45 minutes of moderate cardio 6x a week, so I'm sure that has accelerated the weight loss. I don't think I could go back to eating as frequently as before. Wish me luck! I have 65 more pounds to hit my weight loss goal!
I’m 51 and started doing 16:8 about a year ago and started exercising daily and I’m in better shape than I was in my 20’s and I just laugh when anyone says fasting isn’t healthy. I was a semi sedentary 210lbs when I started and I’m a fit 170 now and feel better than I have in many years. I even had to throw out all of my old clothes and buy new ones and went so far as to relocate with my job to a new city and I started my life over as a fit person and enjoy hiking and biking in the mountains now!
Once you realize how you've been lied to so much about something as basic as good nutrition just think about how much propaganda and disinformation and horse manure is being fed to you by legacy media regarding politics.
This video alone can empty many beds in all hospitals, but we know people don't listen or don't know the facts, so we keep on pushing. Excellent information as always.
Yes people don't listen.. I been telling my brother who eats very unhealthy and takes lots of medication and if he changed the foods he eat and how often I know he could get off most all of them but he tells me he will only do what his doctor tells him and he gonna eat what he wants cause he gonna die happy.. its sad but he really frustrates me lol. And yes he gets up and eats in middle of night.. oh well he's missing out on feeling great..
@@sandib9152 what applies to your brother is The age old saying, “Do you want to be “RIGHT “ or “ HAPPY “? He’s making HIS CHOICE! Unfortunately, his doctor is sabotaging his patients life! And brother is never ever going to change until it is HIS IDEA! It’s like training an animal or a child. Until it’s THEIR IDEA, it’s not going to happen! Hopefully he’ll see the light! I “ found “ you last night ! Really listened like my life depended on it - and know it did . Years of minor depression , retired , not motivated to do anything except being a good mother to my 3 dogs . No exercise and all the wrong foods. You inspired me soooo much that I could not wait to start my new way of living this morning . Now its evening and I had no problem at all with skipping breakfast , started at noon having coffee with more cream , threw away low fat yogurt, cereal and bread - and had eggs and a salad with tuna and beans . Also started bike riding for 20 minutes for the first time in many years . Amazing Miracle ! Thank you so much , Dr.Sten Ekberg ❤😅
Full-fat yogurt is delicious. Cabot whole milk greek yogurt is available with extra cream added, raising it to 10% milkfat. Ditch the sweets and enjoy the rich, satisfying fats! But read the labels carefully, an amazing amount of sugar can be hidden in many products.
I have hypothyroidism and Im going through menopause and still lost 20 lbs in two months. Education and accountability! Thats the answer…. Thank you Dr.
Me too... Hypo and Menopause. Wish me luck Update on Aug 10, 2021. 50 hour fast and I feel fine... Im not weighing myself. Because though I could lose a few pounds, I'm focusing on curing thyroid. Every morning I fast, I know my weight has gone down by 1/2 a pound. Will update when I finally break my fast. No goal for length. Each day is a new day. I feel good, I knew that I would 😎💃
Our society is just too focused on eating, rewarding ourselves, pleasuring our tongues. We should focus on something else and feeding should become something we just need to do to keep going.
Scott, that's why ppl are in their bulbs of illusion and still don't get why they're des-ease, ill, frustrated etc! And that's ok for me! We all have choice in everything in life!
I recovered from 11 years of anorexia and bulimia thanks to fasting. People argue that fasting will trigger either of them, but they are ignorant. I did OMAD during winter when I was working in a ski resort in the Alps. Would start my day bringing my skis up the mountains in the gondola, ski down to my own gondola and shovel snow off my area. I would have a heavy meal at 12, 13 or 14, depending on the days. Sometimes I would eat dry sausages right before my meal when I was feeling like I was starving. And I would be so full from my decadent lunch that I wouldn't even consider eating dinner. It wasn't easy everyday because as a woman, I am subject to hormones changes. Some days I was incredibly hungry depending on where I was in my cycle. I am also small and slim, so often I was spending more calories than I was eating. But thanks to that diet, I was very dynamic and strong and mentally more stable (another reason to fast for me, because my neuroticism is high on the scale).
Two weeks ago, I was at the heaviest weight of my life. Lots of complicating issues in the last two years. My niece suggested intermittent fasting, so I tried it. I went to noon and 6pm as my two meals a day and cut them to half what I would normally eat. I'm down 27lbs in 13 days, and most confusing of all is, *I'm actually enjoying it!* I haven't felt this good in 15 years, and some chronic problems are easing more and more every day! I love the fact that all of your videos are for a healthy lifestyle and not disguised advertisements! Thank you so much for all this useful information!
That's awesome. I am 3 days in and doing one meal. I am enjoying it too. Just in 3 days I have so much energy and I so enjoy one big meal. OH, if we had only know!!
@@MsOrientalia Every day. It's become 2nd nature now and I have no cravings anymore. My wife actually has to remind me to eat! SOme days I do one meal a day now because I have no desire for more. The holidays were kinda strange though. I had to take really small portions of all the food so as not to offend anyone, but was OMAD for sure!
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy the trick is, since the holidays are towards the end of the year, you spend all year before the holidays focusing on your health and getting in shape; that way, when the holidays roll around, you won't feel guilty about pig out
30 lbs down in 5 weeks and the sugar and complex carb cravings I’ve fought for decades are currently non existent. Thank you for sharing your knowledge!
The people who told us we need to eat 3 meals a day heavy with carbs are the same people who told us lard and olive oil were bad for us and vegetable oils were lighter and good for us. So messed up!
Working in a nursing home, it's just heart heartbreaking to see what our diabetic residents are fed :(. loaded with carbs and the doc just increases their insulin. A vicious cycle as they gain weight from the diet, the Insulin and lack of exercise
You are SO CORRECT on this observation, Marianne! I have seen patients die because of the "dead food" "Nutrient deficient" diets fed to them in nursing homes! As a Clinical Nutritionist, I have looked into this and sadly, there is nothing I could do to find a way to do anything about it! As an attempt to help, I would bring fresh organic produce from my own garden and kept a blender in her room. I left a bottle of Whey Protein Isolate from Biotics Research Corp, to mix in with the produce and asked if someone could help her make a shake, daily. But no one would help! We really must think of a way to CHANGE how our elderly are warehoused, discarded and neglected by our greater society in the United States! It is a shame how they are fed! Especially when you see how much money goes to the owners and shareholders of most of these businesses! Most of which, are corporations! Go figure! They hire doctors who get paid to follow their agendas, too! I will prefer to just walk out into the woods, alone, or wheeled, before anyone can place me in one of these homes when and if I face being housed in one!
This is so true. Hospitalfood is worst for diabetics. I just witnessed a RN ! forcing bananas and mashed potatoes into an old sick man with heavy diabetes.

Been on OMAD for over a year. Quit smoking/drinking, and lost a bunch of weight at first, but now maintaining weight without a scale and recomposed my body to more muscle mass than I ever imagined possible… without looking like bodybuilder. Stronger in my 40s than I was in my 20s. Thanks, Dr. Ekberg - and thanks to my kettlebell/iron club/squat channels, as well. 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
I read a book on intermittent fasting (IF) two years ago by Dr. Fung. This is the most comprehensive 20 min video to summarize that whole book. This is such good info I hope everyone benefits from it. I have forwarded to all my people
@@JenniferMyers yes ma’am. I totally agree. But for those who haven’t yet found the fortitude to actually read a book for the betterment of themselves, THIS video is IT!
My doctor had actually TOLD ME to be eating every 2-3 hours for YEARS DUE TO HYPOGLYCEMIA. Said that this would keep my sugar regulated .... which if you look at that statement it isn’t an out right lie, lol. It IS, in fact, true but Detrimental To my health because that “regular” stream of consistent sugar & insulin made me fat, then fatter, then obese and completely and totally unhealthy. The dr actually had me believing that I needed to carry food with me every where I went to the point of self-inflicted addiction that also carried withdrawals when I didn’t eat as often as they told me to. I have prided myself my whole life to have avoided drugs and alcohol... never saw the sugar as an addiction UNTIL I saw how MEAN it was was I wouldn’t feed it!
@@lauriepayseur5897 were you able to succeed with IF? I'm hypoglycemic as well. I want to intermittent fast but sugar levels fall within a couple of hours of being awake in the morning. 🥴
@@claytonneprud2208 yes ABSOLUTELY- I’ll give you a brief how I was able to do it. First it took me about 4-5 weeks to stop having what I felt were sugar withdrawals as I switched to a ketogenic diet I went pretty much carnivore but not quiet all the way to make sure I was getting complete nutrients that do NOT COME FROM PLANT BASED DIETS. So as I my body became fat adapted I felt fuller for much longer as fat burns up far slower as fuel than carbs. I was stretching out meals without even realizing... and then as I realized I was just completely disinterested in Breakfast when I woke up - I would literally wait until I felt hungry... which sometimes would carry me until 1 or 2 pm or later... at first it didn’t even dawn on me that I wasn’t getting the shakes or the sweaty jitters... when it finally hit me that my body was only calling for 2 meals a day I realized that the hypoglycemia was no longer an issue of mine. I just stretched out an extra hour or two at a time from what my “then normal” was.... to one meal a few times in a week. Then I decided to do a 24 hr... had no issues. My longest fast has been 42 hours and at no time did I feel faint or any symptoms of my previous diagnosis of hypoglycemia . If I was not clear on this please let me know and I will go in more detail if you like
@@techphile3262i don’t think it’s advisable to do any other restrictive diets since you’ll be losing at least a pound every week bc you’re fasting every other day
I started 16/8, 2 meals/day, 5 months ago. I gradually moved to 18/6 then 20/4 then 22/2. I’m now on OMAD. It is so easy and beneficial. I’ve lost 35 lbs (170->135). I’m so much healthier. I only have one meal to prep, cook, and clean up after. My trips to the market are faster and MUCH less expensive. I have a lot more time for all my hobbies. Thank you Dr. Ekberg. All of the incredible information I have learned from your videos was key to my success.
You just inspired me, thank you! I am on 18/6 after doing 16/8 and just have to stop the grazing during my eating window! Want to go to 2 meals a day instead of snacking on healthy foods. Lost 6 lbs been doing this a little over a week. Have around 40 more to go!
@@lonniebuczko8108 Hey Lonnie, When I stick to it it works very well! I do 16 hours of fasting, normally. Sometimes i try to push it to 18 to bring on autophagy. Still struggling with carbs sometimes, but doing better all the time. How about you?
I'm KETO/OMAD 22/2 for the last 30 months and 67 years old. I feel great. I sort of feel sorry for the puffy or obese people I see stuffing themselves at all hours of the day. I was an obese heavy drinker a few years ago but thanks to the good Dr I have seen the light.
I quickly lost weight 23 kg then put 8 kg back on. Maintaining a happy weight now. Great skin, flattish abdomen. More muscle definition. Stable and happy mood. Able to buy nice clothes that fit. Even at my advanced age I actually think I catch women catching a second look at me or if that's all in my head I guess the effect on me is the same ha, ha. I'm never going back to bread and the plus meals a day. I feel optimistic about a lot of things now.
@Cyril That’s sad. If you’re mother is open to it, perhaps you can share some videos of Dr. Eckberg, Dr. Fung and others to change her mind. Otherwise, I hope you gain independence soon so you can get back to good health and feeling good.
@Cyril What ever your mother set you the meal, eat veggies and fatty meat first & carbs at last. Finish dinner before 7pm & start breakfast at 9, at least you'd have 14hrs fasting. Stay relax...at least to avoid rebounding of the previous wt lost
@Cyril - you’re an adult, Mate…you ALWAYS have other options…one(s) that YOU choose. 😉😊 You seem intelligent; you’ll figure things out. Best wishes to you!👍🏼💪🏼💕
@Cyril your mum sounds like she is going thru a very negative phase. Eat healthy when you can. Maybe try to reach a compromise of going low carb? When you are more independent you will be able to do more. And, would she really jeopardise your education if you ate your own way? Maybe agree to go to the drs and have a blood test to check your health indicators if she is worried.
I'm doing IF 6/18 Carnivore. Finally found what works for me. I wanted to cut Oxalates. I've spent years on very expensive medications for an eye issue that has almost completely resolved since going carnivore. I feel better eating in a 6 hour window. I do still eat spices, jalapeño and garlic so I guess I'm on Dirty Carnivore. Got to have some joy in life. When I go out with friends I'll get hot wings. Don't want to be a Downer due to my diet and stop getting invited out with my pals. I've also gone out and we had pizza, I ate the topping and left the crust. You do what you got to do to still have a life now and then.
Did my first 48 hour fast today and I learned something very important: I can ignore the ghrelin and via drinking water, green tea or black coffee, simply power through those signals. After about 15-20 minutes those hunger pangs subside.
Thanks Doc, Its a proverb in India from ancient age, Ayurved says one who Eats thrice is a Patient, Twice is a sufferer and Once is a Saint. No wonder people were always fit who used to eat just OMAD, and see where humans are today with 3 plus meals a day.
How long they lived then? And how many those eating 3 times now, who are fit and healthy in their 60-70-80s? Among my family and friends there are plenty of three meals eaters who are fit as a fiddle physically and mentally. Moreover, some of them had their biological age test and they appeared to be 5-10 years younger than their passport age.
@@ninaotan7811 There's no difference in lifespan between then and now. You're thinking of average life expectation that's based on all statistics like baby death, accidents, predators, modern medicine etc.
@@casualpain8316 Only prehistoric humans possibly ate once a day. However, it seems unlikely that people gathering food didn’t put in their mouth anything during a day of work having food in front of them. Since humans began farming approximately 12,000 they ate more than once. Historically the better humans ate, the taller and stronger they become. And yes, statistics gives us most accurate picture in relation to life span. Life expectation of the nations where people traditionally eat three time a day and for which gastronomy is an important part of everyday culture is one of the longest in the world. For instance, for Italy and France it is 83 years.
@@ninaotan7811 in Europe people traditionally only ate two meals a day, up until around 150-200 years ago. Three meals a day is pretty modern compared to when people started farming 12000 yrs ago. The first meal would be mid-morning, the 2nd meal late afternoon. This through to early 19th century. Nevertheless, in France (where I live) and Italy (where I have also lived) people tend to eat a very light breakfast - often just a coffee or other drink with something light like bread and jam and a piece of fruit (full of carbs/sugar, but small in quantity). Most people I know baulk at the idea of a heavy breakfast, many people don't eat anything for breakfast. It's worth noting that in French, breakfast is 'small breakfast' or petit déjeuner and lunch is 'breakfast' or déjeuner, (jeûner means to fast, so literally 'de-fast') showing how people have traditionally eaten. It's only in the past 20-30 yrs that I see French and Italians indulging in snacks, and I see growing numbers of overweight children and adults since the past decade or so. And while people are living longer, they're not necessarily healthy either - often riddled with arthritis, or heart disease or taking some form of medication. As Sten Ekberg says, what's the point of living to 90 if you're ill the last 40 yrs of your life? In ancient civilisations people who could afford good food and weren't forced to work too hard regularly lived to a ripe old age of 70-80 yrs. Life expectancy hasn't changed, but modern medicine means people are kept alive for longer, or take longer to die, but they're not necessarily healthy 🙁

I'm just using my own fat for energy and the weight just keeps coming off! In fact a few months ago I felt so good I decided to up my game so I also do a 48hr. fast every four days... just for fun 😆. I still don't understand how people can walk around all day with a container of energy-dense, nutrition- deficient liquid. I can't even be bothered to carry water.
What’s always bothered me about the 16:8 is the implication that you’re free to eat non-stop for eight hours. It’s still over consumption. I doubt the hunter-gathers did that. OMD is the way to go. Just make that one meal well thought out. And skip a day every once in a while.
I’ve been doing OMAD for over a year. I’ve hit a plateau. So I’ve decided to add longer fasts once a week. So far I have done 3 48 hour fasts and just finished a 76 hour fast. And it was no big deal! 😊
I've done OMAD twice and both times lost a lot of hair, had gallbladder pain and trouble sleeping. I'm back on 6/18 and it works better for me. We all respond differently. I wonder if you've trained your body to be in constant starvation mode. Maybe do the reverse, do a 6/18 and let your body relax a bit and be in feast mode for a bit. Just a thought

I hope your weight loss journey is going well. If you’re having trouble with losing weight at 16 hours, try 24 hours, then bump it up to 48 hours. I’m 35 so it’s probably easier for me to do this, but I highly recommend you try pushing yourself. The hardest part of my fast is usually around the 26 hour mark where I feel lousy. But after that it gets easier.
I'm a similar age, I did the opposite, high fat very low card - absolutely no sugar. Weight is coming off fine. High carb will keep you on high insulin constant, very bad. Read up on keto diet. Took me 2 weeks to get rid of all sugar addiction, my jointpain and my headaches went too.

@@galadriel3134 I’m thinking about that actually. For me intermittent fasting is easy, my body is fat adapted and can switch to fats for energy. The harder thing for me is the true prolonged fasting. The first day of a prolonged fast is the worst. To make it easier for me, I’m going to try a pure keto diet on the day before my prolonged fast starts so my body is in a better state. I started keto on October 2020 and lost 12 pounds in the first two weeks. for the next five months I was stuck at the same weight and finally gave up. There is so much information out there most of which is not well organized until I came across your videos about a month ago. Thank you for explaining complex concepts in a easy way to understand. I started eating 18-6 keto style last Friday and I have lost 5 pounds in the past seven days. By no means I have mastered this endeavor but there is enough progress for me to continue on this journey. Thank you again for doing this work. And love how you start your videos with “hello health champions”. After 40 years of dieting, this is truly the first time I feel like I’m making a lifestyle change.
I am on keto too. Reached a plateau and trying my hardest, I still didn't lose any wieght. Then I heard about refeeding. And it works!!!! Five days you eat at a calorie deficit and then for two days you eat maintenance calories. That way your metobolism don't adjust or think you are in a famine. It work for me, you should look into it.
Eating before bed can cause hormonal and metabolic shifts that lead to hunger upon waking, while not eating allows your body to stabilize its processes, resulting in less morning hunger. Consuming food, especially those high in carbohydrates or sugars, can cause a spike in your blood sugar levels followed by an increase in insulin production. During the night, this can lead to a drop in blood sugar levels, potentially causing you to wake up feeling hungry as your body signals the need for more energy. It can also affect your levels of ghrelin (the hunger hormone) and leptin (the satiety hormone). A disruption in these hormone levels overnight can cause you to feel hungrier in the morning.
Went from 240lbs to 177lbs in about 6 months (5' 9" male) doing IF and extended fasting + keto diet. Goal is to hit 160 lbs and ripped. Fasting had changed my life for the better and it's so simple to do. I've tried many different diets and eating frequencies and nothing compares to fasting
64 hrs into a 72 hrs water fast. Feeling great. Those Ketones will be kicking in any minute now. So much mental clarity, & feeling more energy. Once completed the fast, my diet for the next couple of days will only be nuts, grains, cucumber, celery & certain fruits and veg, all organic & raw. Stay blessed fasting community, fasting is wonderful ❤️❤️❤️ UPDATE: After body went into ketosis, my energy levels increased, 3rd day spent the whole day working. Arrived home & felt like I could of run a marathon. Wasn’t hungry at all. And decided to extend the fast. Decided to end the fast today after 98 hrs, eating only raw organic foods. Feeling amazing, & already looking forward to fasting again, potentially extending it to 7 days. Blessings to all the fasting community ❤️❤️
7 days?! Wow, you are strong👏🏻 Don't think I could ever do it, but it makes me feel better about my (lousy) 36hrs, twice a week option 😂 Good luck & much health to you!
@@rohitaagrawal363 I didn’t experience that, maybe because I didn’t get to close to anyone though ha ha. However I did have a slight aluminium taste, nothing too bad though 🙏🏽
12-14 hours fasting daily was always normal. Mom served dinner and shut down the kitchen. After bedtime, your only source of water was the bathroom sink. Breakfast might even be delayed until lunch if you overslept. Edited for spelling, sorry!
Thanks Doc. I started doing intermittent fasting at the beginning of the pandemic lockdown last year and the results have been amazing. I have lost weight and I look younger and stronger. It has become my lifestyle and I am very grateful to to you Doc. Thanks so very much.
The most hours I ever fast was 168 I'm gonna try to go for 30 days starting this Friday 07/29/2022 I did the 7 days straight when I was going to work. I'm home for the whole month of August so I have the time and I won't be to active. I plan on losing over 30 pounds or more. I'll be drinking crystal geyser water. I can't wait to lose the rest of this belly. Altogether I would be losing 110 pounds. I'll be under 200, maybe even 185, thank you and my father. You both are great at this. Pray and wish me luck, thank you.
@briandykeman4056 bro, I wish I can actually talk to you. It's so much to say. When you go on your fast do not tell a soul you are fasting. It is none of their business. There will be jokes and discouragment. I emptied my refrigerator before I did it and my cabinets. Get you some crystal geyser water. When you are driving home from work do not stop at Krispy Kreme like I did, ha ha ha. When people are sitting down eating, that is where you don't want to be. Pray as many times as you can. Ask God to help you through this healing. Tell yourself your not trying to lose weight and you are not thinking about that. You are trying to heaingl yourself internally to feel better and the rest will fall in place. God speed.
This sounds kind of nutty to me. I fast after 3pm till b fast and that seems long! Don't long periods of no food slow metabolic rate? It's also not always what u eat, not just how often . Not eating dinner sounds smart, no fat burning going on right?
Day 19 of my 21 day water fast and I feel pretty good. Some nausea and some burps here and there but skin is clear and any aches and pains I had are gone. Taste buds get reset as well so some things you make think that were delicious may not taste as great. A blessing and a curse
I generally eat everything for the day in a 3 hour window...I begin with a large salad (includes 1 whole avocado), takes at least 30/45 to eat, then I make some eggs, eat some nuts (macadamia), then cook and eat either ground beef or wild caught salmon and finish with a cup of berries.. To prepare and eat this it takes like 3 hours so it gives me 21 hrs of fasting
That is where I want to get. But I do everything slowly. I was so used to three meals a day. I read a lot about IF, Keto. I learned a lot with yr videos and others. Watching this video, i will plan on doing 24 hr Fasting last week in July. Need more info on how to prep mind and body for this.
Thank you for this. I did 37 hours fasting and felt so good. I started a 7vday fast last Sunday night, today is my day 3, and I feel super, strong and amazing.
Answer: Do what feels right for you. No two bodies are alike. If you have an eating disorder like compulsive overeating or anorexia, you might need to eat sooner than later. Fasting for too long can lead to stuffing or starving. I “postpone” my meals but if my stomach starts growling and hurting I eat (keto only foods). But: I also always ask myself am I experiencing real hunger (stomach) or mouth hunger (simply a desire for a “taste” of something, which can mean I’ve had a few too many carbs.)
Following 16/8 and omad eating windows has, simply, solved 40 years of eating /weight problems for me. We have been lied to by the medical profession and the food producers. This video needs to be standard viewing in every school, every workplace.
My 5th day on OMAD. I am glad I actually listened to my brother to check on your videos!! Your explanations are so insightful, I gave IF a try, and it seems great so far.. I'm used of doing Ramadhan, so this IF is easy peasy coz I can still drink water whenever I want😍 thanks for being my hope towards healthier n leaner me.
My body requested me naturally to make intermitting fasting. I am not hungry when i wake up, i drink a lot of water (like 3 litres) throughout daytime, i skip lunch cause i am not hungry. I start feeling hungry around 3 min pm But i can wait until 7 pm and habe my OMAD dinner. This routine is so natural to me… it makes me feel light and sleep better. The hardest part is people around me always asking why i am not having breakfast, why i am not having lunch… why i don’t eat sweets it’s like they would force me eating. I don’t have any eating disorders, i just understood that eating less is a better choice for me. I am just exhausted by questions and not requested advices by people around me (their body are full of sugars and they’re addicted literally). I know me and i listen to my body.
@@treese-aa2780 thanks for the advice, i usually drink low sodium water… so far so good….and lately in rome is boiling so i drink even more cause i am sweating like mad…
Real testimony: I didn’t eat for a week (Sunday to Sunday, 168 hours), just water. I lost 9 pounds. By day five I had bradycardia and I felt very weak. The worst part came after I finished the fasting. My parotids got swollen due to lack of saliva flow during the fasting. It took me almost five days to recover from that painful condition. Would I repeat it? Nope. But now I know the sweet spot for extended fasting is 72 hours. I'm doing it every three months.
I started eating 2 meals a day after watching a few of Dr. Ekberg’s videos. Amazingly I didn’t miss not eating breakfast. I also realized I was eating out of boredom and not because I was hungry. It’s only been a few weeks but I’m starting to see the benefits! Thanks for all the great videos with the clear explanations Dr. Ekberg. I didn’t realize how many bad habits I had formed!
fist of all he is not a real "Dr" he has a doctorate in chiropractic. I'm not saying he is wrong or right. always consult with your Dr whatever you do.
I have basically done the same as you after practicing Dr Ekbergs ideas... Im eating 0 sugar and very low carbs and am intermitting fasting 18-6.... I cant even describe all the positives that I have seen in my health... I would have to write a whole book.. This comment from NuMuzikZYX is very sad because hes trying to discount alot of very valuable information...
@@cap2792 No, surprisingly I wasn’t starving. If I started feeling hungry I would drink some herbal tea (no sugar, no milk). I am still doing it and I feel great. I lost a total of 15 pounds and I eat the same calories as before (sometimes more)!
Thank you Dr. Ekberg. I have been following you for about 22 months, am keto and IF. Am off of all of my T2D meds, and at 65 feel better than anytime in the past 20 years. Weight, muscle mass, BP, all improved. Thank you.
Part of my fasting routine that was critical for me, at first, was telling myself that there will be another meal in X hours. So when I was going from 3 to 2 meals a day, then OMAD, I would just mentally reassure myself that the next meal would be here soon enough. Now, doing OMAD through the week, there is very little hunger. I have learned to recognize real hunger from triggered hunger.
That's how I quit smoking 25 years ago. When I wanted a cigarette I would make myself wait an hour assuring myself I'd get a cigarette in an hour and then I'd forget about it.
Trigger hunger is why it is killing me. I have been doing 16/8 and would like to push it further, like 21 or 36 hours. The trigger for me is when I prepare a meal.
This is one of the best videos I've ever seen on fasting. Thank you. I've been fasting for many years and it's amazing how ignorant people are about it. I have so many people say when they hear that I am fasting how dangerous it is. That's so ridiculous. This is a good one to share to all those kind of people to educate them.
I delay my breakfast and make it a brunch. I was at a plateau for a couple of months but I switched to two meals a day and got the scale moving!!! Keto since March and I’ve never been hungry!! Your videos have helped me tremendously!!! Thank you!!’
I do 20/4 intermittent fasting. I eat between 7:30 AM and 11:30 AM, with a work out session at 08:30 AM. I eat tons of proteins for preserving my muscles. In the evening I might feel hunger during some minutes but I am so excited by my morning sugarless protein-rich pancakes that the hunger goes away fast. I feel more productive on an empty stomach. And I feel tired enough in the evening to sleep early enough.
I have done OMAD KETO for 3 months now, haven't cheated once. I have lost 40lbs, my energy is through the roof and my mood is better than it has ever been. But I lift and do cardio everyday with heavy intensity. I have no trouble with OMAD but I can't see fasting longer being so active.
You know, if your purpose is losing weigh, so low intensity, non stressing exercise is better. With some intervall training.... If your idea is just to be healthy and strong, you have more freeway. I know a pro fighter in Muay Thai, whom lives on every second day keto, and every second day fasting.... She does happily fights on her fasting days...
Hey barney ! Thanks for sharing, I am losing weight like crazy doing fasting, but Im not sure if I should eat one day and the other one dont eat, or should I eat two days in a row and then 1 day of fasting ?
@@gabogarcia-music8795 That grandmaster does in one day on, one day off. But its surely possible to do it two days, eating, one day non eating. After all, everything is in part individual, as long as you get the nutrients necessary. Not least different salts. Potasium and magnesium extra.
2 months into keto and intermittent fasting, and I'm down 40lbs. I also lift and do cardio for a few hours every day. It's not too different working out for the first day of a 48 hour fast, but I need to drop my pace after the first 24 hours.
I've been eating OMAD for 4 and 1/2 months now....and I'm down 52 LBS. I no longer am on medicine for BP or Gurd...and my morning blood sugars are now down to around 94 and drop throughout the day to around 82 or so. I've been following a STRICT Keto diet and LOVING IT!! I did hit that "plateau", so I finally decided to try a 48 hour fast last weekend...and it was SO EASY! I only lost 3 lbs during that process...but it's movement in the right direction. Next time I'll go the 72 hours and see how that goes. :)
My routine is 18-6 and 20-4. Long walks for 75 minutes after 16 hours of fasting and before I eat are real fat burners. Totally agree with 2 and 3 day fasts, they are wonderful and easy to do.
@@chilipizza so my 6 hour eating window was from 4pm to 10pm. I was eating 1 meal and snacking either side of that. Provided I avoided sugar and bread my weight did not increase and would slowly decrease in small steps after consistent walking. I was probably eating continuously for the 6 hours. I've moved on to 21-3 and just eating once, a big meal that takes 90 minutes to consume. A plate of veggies and meat and a big bowl of homemade jelly. Plus whatever my partner leaves over. So true. I was talking with friends who were vegetarians. They carried on about being on a water diet for weeks at a time. As soon as I told them I was eating only meat, they freaked out. They said that without eating vegetables I wouldn't get the vitamins my body needed. Weird how they weren't worried about vitamins on a water only diet... People are dumb.

I am so sorry that I can upvote this video only once. That is the first thing ever I truly consider a "life hack". Thank you so much for this knowledge! Down from 115kg/253lbs to 92kg/202,4lbs. Thank you times a million!
I appreciate your videos so much. I've been doing keto and IF for the past 11 months. (also at least one or two extended fasts a month). I just went 91.5 hours this past week. I've never felt so good! I've also learned coming off extended fasts, and what to eat or not eat, is as important as doing them. During these past 11 months, I've lost 85 lbs. My BMI was above 45 (yes, I'm extremely over weight). But now my BMI has dropped to 34. I love the keto/IF lifestyle. Thank you for all your videos.
Day 27 of a 30 day water fast. So far I've lost 30lbs and look 10yrs younger. If it wasn't for the horrible taste in my mouth and the fact that we'll be taking a trip in a week, I could easily do 40days. No hunger, no cravings, I feel great and function just as if I would on a regular 3x/day meal. Thank you Dr. Ekberg, your videos are my favorite past time! Your methodical and logical explanations are simply priceless.
True North Clinic (I think) does a 40 day waterfast medically supervised. Over 20,000 people have done it and no one dies lol. Most humans could go 70 days on just water supposedly
Amazing explanations. Even someone like me that have followed a bodybuilder diet for 20 years, finally understand the process and reverse my habits. Thank you doctor.
When I was on the Standard American Diet (SAD), I couldn't imagine going extended periods without eating. If I went more than 5 or 6 hours without eating during the day, I would feel tired, weak, and hangry. I wouldn't be able to focus and I would get the shakes until I got something to eat. Normally, this would be a couple of candy bars or a bag of chips. Last September, I tried a ketogenic diet. I cleaned out my house of all sugar, processed carbs, and seed oils. I began eating less frequently, and OMAD just became natural to me. Sometimes I eat in the morning, sometimes in the evening. Sometimes I just skip a day because I don't really feel hungry. I will NEVER go back to eating all the crap that I used to. My energy is way up, my mood is much improved, my mind is clear, and I generally feel great.
At 59, I just took a motorcycle dive and wrecked my knee. So I started fasting 45:3 (eat every 2 days). I always gain weight in late summer and fall. I need to lose about 30 lbs to lighten the weight on my knee. Fasting also helps to heal. learnt this watching "my octopus teacher" after she was attacked and lost an arm. She rested and fasted and after a while a small arm began to grow back and she was in top shape again.
I am a diabetic since 2004. At some point my doctor recommended insulin. But now the doctor changed and this new doctor, after some investigations concluded that I don't need insulin anymore. In short, I'm not insulin-dependent anymore. Then, a couple of months ago, I discovered the fasting. Well, I don't need to burn fat that much, but my blood sugar level decreased significantly. I'm so happy! From levels around 150 and more (sometimes) to levels between 99 and 106. The fact that generally, almost all my life (I am 74 yo), I didn't like to have breakfast helped me a lot. The breakfast made me sleepy when I needed my brain to be sharp. And, believe me, I feel very well. More than that, I started doing some exercises adapted to my age that made me feel even better. More than that, I understood that it's very important to add some protein to help things work. Now I eat only products brought by farmers at my little market nearby and renounce buying ANY processed products. FYI, my fasting program is 18 - 6.
Biblical fasting has a spiritual purpose, it's to make us more dependant on God. Dietary fasting has a different purpose, but we still get most of the other benefits! 🙂
I live in Indonesia. As a Moslem, we practice fasting without meal and drink for around 14 hours for 30 days a year. And I felt when I was fasting, my health increased.
@@User-lt1pqzrtstkpfrzj No, you can't. During Ramadan, you are not supposed to drink. Anything. It's an unhealthy, damaging practice. That's why old, sick, pregnant people and children are usually excused.
That was so well explained. I am 13 hours away from completing my annual 5 day water fast and needed a bit of motivation to get me over the line. I mix it up through the year by doing various periods of OMAD or TMAD, with the odd 48hr - 72hr fast. Thanks, great video.
Thank you so much Dr Sten Ekberg. I’m down from 180lbs to 139lbs in 4 months. And I’m still having 10lbs to hit my goal. Wish everyone can find your Chanel .
Coming from a guy that ate three big meals a day and went to buffets 3 times a week this fasting was easy. Just takes a little bit of effort and mind set.
I finally went with baby steps. Did mostly just 14 hr fasts the first week, then took another week for 16 to feel OK (not starving). Now I do at least 18 most days. 2MAD.
This video is fantastic and exactly the info I needed. I'm 55 years old, 5'9" about 138 pounds and I have been doing 18/6 for several weeks now and lost about 6 pounds and have only about another 6 pounds to go for my ideal weight. I started doing OMAD on the weekends when I am not working and it is so easy to do! Eat lunch at noon then eat lunch the next day at noon. The biggest benefit for me is that the arthritis in my right hand is virtually gone!
Hi I just did a 5 session of radiotherapy due to extreme pain in my lower back cancer in my column pushing the nerve cord, the pain is gone ,any pointers of what I should do know. Thanks
Are your cycles done? I think I’m done with periods. I’m 55 next month and fairly new to fasting. I’ve put in so much fat on my stomach in the last few years. Just want to feel and look like myself again. I’m only 5’2” so it really shows on me!
Love the accent so calm and clear. I can really understand because English is my third language. Thank you Dr Ekberg. I learned a lot from your brilliant knowledge.
I feel so much better fasted. Longest has been five days. Hardest part is starting and the sugar carb withdrawal. Once you get rid of that you are all set. I start just veggies and meat one meal a day then just stretch it longer hours. I feel energized and clear. Its awesome.

Losing weight for me started with realizing that being hungry is NOT an emergency. I had to remind myself that hunger is normal and I wasn't going to die without food for a few hours.
Absolutely agree.!
If you are doing it correctly you don't feel hungry for much of the day.
I started an intermittent fasting lifestyle four years ago, and I’ve never looked back. I’m in the best health of my life. People emphasize the importance of breakfast being the most important meal of the day, and I do agree; I just eat my breakfast much later each day!

@@lauravictorious4670 Funny how that's the way Italians do it - small shot of espresso and go - then a biggish late lunch
Break fast. That's what it means. The time you break is irrelevant.
We have been eating for habit rather than for hunger
Just completed my first fast (65 hours). The second day I had some periods of hunger but they weren’t too bad & disappeared in about an hour. I’ve been on keto & IF for about 6 weeks now. It’s been nothing short of a miracle! I was using a cane to walk because of crippling osteoarthritis in both hips that cortisone shots & physical therapy couldn’t help. ALL pain is gone. I walk normally - no more cane. Hallelujah! I had been thinking my old age was going to be filled with pain & suffering until I died. Nope. My old age will be great.
That's amazing.
God bless you.

Interesting read, I wish you all the best and keep us posted..
Good job!
I can see why doctors are rarely trained to recommend fasting for anything. There's no money to be made in simply not eating for a period of time.
Obviously you are American.
Most Dr.'s get sick a lot & every, single one I have known has gotten cancer and they would never fast and are on meds.
There is certainly a good deal of savings from it though

Because I sleep late, wake up late, and don’t eat anything until 6 pm or so.

If I was not clear on this please let me know and I will go in more detail if you like
I am currently doing ADF (Alternate Day Fasting).....love it!! I feel amazing. Loosing weight without thinking/worrying about food everyday.

Thanks Doc, Its a proverb in India from ancient age, Ayurved says one who Eats thrice is a Patient, Twice is a sufferer and Once is a Saint. No wonder people were always fit who used to eat just OMAD, and see where humans are today with 3 plus meals a day.
....true

@@aferditakoka8044 I feel your pain. That is common with Intermittent Fasting. Remember…you are eating less so you may not go to the bathroom every single day. Also, I found out when I had to do my colonoscopy that fiber takes several days to digest. Just make sure you take a stool softener each day. But hey… I’m just a dieter I’m not a Dr so…as they always say…talk to your Dr. God bless and good luck.
You need to take magnesium supplements and potassium and salt. Your electrolytes are out of balance. You can fast along with electrolytes.
My junk foods now are almonds. Or triscuit with hummus.
I'm 67. Fighting the same 25 lbs. I went from the low fat, high carb diet because that's what we were told was the best diet. I then went through menopause and craved sugar terribly. Yo yo since I was a preteen. I have been watching Dr E and started the 18-6 fast. The last week I have tried omad and I usually walk 1 or 2 miles a day. Not losing much but going to stay on it. Health is the most important thing right now. Good luck everyone.
@@kajenkirubah1228 try doing an intermittent keto diet. My first 2 weeks were murder but then it turned once my sugar/carb addiction was out of my system. If you are struggling past the first 3 weeks, I suggest you learn more to figure out why you are struggling. Say bye-bye to carbs, let the insulin have a rest...
@@galadriel3134 I’m thinking about that actually. For me intermittent fasting is easy, my body is fat adapted and can switch to fats for energy. The harder thing for me is the true prolonged fasting. I usually have issues around the 26 hour mark where my glycogen is super low, and the body transitions to mainly fats. After about the 2nd day, your body is fine. The first day of a prolonged fast is the worst.
To make it easier for me, I’m going to try a pure keto diet on the day before my prolonged fast starts so my body is in a better state. Bonking or hitting the wall isn’t a good feeling, trust me on that.
I'm 64. I had trouble fasting at first but after being on the ketogenic diet for a while and being solidly fat adapted--about 3 weeks it was much easier to fast. First I went to 2 meals a day. I've been OMAD with an occasional extended fast once every month or two depending upon what is happening in my life.
Awesome advice. I’ve gone from 457 down to 368 in one year. Looking forward to getting under 300
How's it going for you now?. Under 300?
@@readJames48 Ill probably be under 300, by fall. Depends on my next weigh in sunday. I was out of town on a business trip to Spain for 2 weeks. Lots of eating out, though I did limit myself to one meal per day and a couple of snacks.

Please what is keto ?
I am on keto too. Reached a plateau and trying my hardest, I still didn't lose any wieght. Then I heard about refeeding. And it works!!!! Five days you eat at a calorie deficit and then for two days you eat maintenance calories. That way your metobolism don't adjust or think you are in a famine. It work for me, you should look into it.
I love how clearly you speak; every word understood.
love this channel for those very reasons, @Shirley.
Ironic since he’s Swedish
Why is it that if you eat before you go to sleep you wake up hungry but if you don’t eat before bed you wake up not hungry¿?
I always wanted to know that too. It seems so odd.
Blood sugar levels. Keep doing keto research and you will learn why.
Thank you Dr. Ekberg for helping us learn how to clean out our pantries!!
You are welcome Karen Allred. My pleasure 😄
Stay blessed fasting community, fasting is wonderful ❤️❤️❤️
UPDATE: After body went into ketosis, my energy levels increased, 3rd day spent the whole day working.

12-14 hours fasting daily was always normal. Mom served dinner and shut down the kitchen. After bedtime, your only source of water was the bathroom sink. Breakfast might even be delayed until lunch if you overslept.
Edited for spelling, sorry!
I love this, I got the trick ❤💪
Did you make 185?
@MrColbrot yes, but I went up though 15 pounds in muscle 💪, it's funny that, that was in 2022. I fast all the time. I made myself not to like food.
Good for you I'm trying a 40 day fast then intermitten fasting I got 100 pounds to go. Any advice that would help would be appreciated
Wow that is fantastic 21 days water fast. How was when you started?
I generally eat everything for the day in a 3 hour window...I begin with a large salad (includes 1 whole avocado), takes at least 30/45 to eat, then I make some eggs, eat some nuts (macadamia), then cook and eat either ground beef or wild caught salmon and finish with a cup of berries.. To prepare and eat this it takes like 3 hours so it gives me 21 hrs of fasting
That sounds fantastic, and that's basically the menu I make for myself, too.
I didn't intentionally go to OMAD, it just worked out that way when I listened to my body's needs.
That is where I want to get. But I do everything slowly. I was so used to three meals a day. I read a lot about IF, Keto. I learned a lot with yr videos and others. Watching this video, i will plan on doing 24 hr Fasting last week in July. Need more info on how to prep mind and body for this.
Thanks for sharing your meal plan, I motivated to try that too !
Omad got rid of my inflammation and lower back pain within a week.
How much do you normally eat for the one? Till you're full?
Be careful about drinking so much water because more than two litres is not good it starts to mess with our sodium
@@treese-aa2780 thanks for the advice, i usually drink low sodium water… so far so good….and lately in rome is boiling so i drink even more cause i am sweating like mad…
I skip supper, not breakfast. I do 20:4, eating 6am - 10am. It seems to work better for me.
I agree for this working. I’m never hungry at night just the morning. Makes it simple to fast and I get better sleep and digestion
Did you supplement with magnesium and/potassium and salt while water fasting ? May have helped with your fluid balance and stopped that saliva issue
Sounds like you needed electrolytes, but really 24-48-72 hours is plenty for most people.

Same. Thanks, I'm going back too hunger eat fat, loving it. Fasting,we'll be fed.
That's how I quit smoking 25 years ago. When I wanted a cigarette I would make myself wait an hour assuring myself I'd get a cigarette in an hour and then I'd forget about it.
good strategy . I find myself looking at the clock too much though lol. I just started
Yep.Carb withdrawal pangs maybe ?

@@chilipizza so my 6 hour eating window was from 4pm to 10pm. I was eating 1 meal and snacking either side of that. 🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation:
00:00 🕒 *Fasting involves periods of not eating, allowing the body to switch from storing to burning fat by managing insulin levels.*
01:50 🥘 *Throughout history, humans maintained balance by eating limited meals; modern eating habits with increased frequency and processed foods correlate with rising obesity and diabetes rates.*
04:07 🍳 *Misconceptions about always eating ("never emptying the pantry") contribute to health issues; breakfast's importance has shifted from breaking fast to immediate morning consumption.*
06:25 🌞 *A fasting window of 12-14 hours, historically common, offers balance; adjusting meal times, like skipping breakfast, can create a 16-18 hour fasting period.*
07:43 🍔 *Balancing fat storage versus fat burning involves reducing meal frequency; extended fasting, beyond 24 hours, aids in weight loss by increasing fat burn.*
09:29 🍏 *Longer fasting periods, depending on individual goals, can enhance fat burning, lower insulin, and bring about health benefits beyond weight loss.*
11:18 🍽️ *Shrinking the eating window to 6-8 hours (16-18 hour fast) aids weight loss for many; breaking plateaus might require more extended fasts like one meal a day or even longer durations.*
13:42 🕰️ *Overcoming the challenge of longer fasting periods, like 48 hours or beyond, often leads to reduced hunger, mental clarity, and increased comfort with extended fasting.*
15:01 🧹 *Extended fasting induces autophagy, a cellular cleanup process, potentially aiding in various health conditions from degenerative diseases to brain repair post-injury.*
17:35 🔄 *A balanced fasting routine, combining 16:8 to OMAD (one meal a day), suits different individuals based on weight goals; periodic longer fasts, like 42 hours or more, exponentially increase autophagy.*
18:55 📆 *Occasional extended fasts of 3-4 days (or longer if comfortable) amplify autophagy, potentially benefiting health and preventing certain diseases.*

Hi
I’m new to IF and struggling with what to eat AFTER breaking the fast… please share… (I know this is a old posts). Thank you in advance!
Wow.. no food at all?
True North Clinic (I think) does a 40 day waterfast medically supervised. Over 20,000 people have done it and no one dies lol. Most humans could go 70 days on just water supposedly
The more fat you have stored, the longer you can go. What works for someone with 40% body fat does not work for someone with 10% body fat.
Hallelujah
At 59, I just took a motorcycle dive and wrecked my knee. So I started fasting 45:3 (eat every 2 days). I always gain weight in late summer and fall. I need to lose about 30 lbs to lighten the weight on my knee. Fasting also helps to heal. learnt this watching "my octopus teacher" after she was attacked and lost an arm. She rested and fasted and after a while a small arm began to grow back and she was in top shape again.
Are you sure the arms are growing back?
Great Video Doc ! The Bible mentions a lot about fasting and we've been doing it since childhood in my family. What a blessing.
Amen! Thanks for sharing. I am going to try it, kinda scared, kinda excited haha
Biblical fasting has a spiritual purpose, it's to make us more dependant on God. Dietary fasting has a different purpose, but we still get most of the other benefits! 🙂
Nit just bible all religions. I an hindu and feel like half the scriptures and tradition was about 2-7 day fast, not eating on new moon etc.
I live in Indonesia. As a Moslem, we practice fasting without meal and drink for around 14 hours for 30 days a year. And I felt when I was fasting, my health increased.
While fasting can be healthy, not drinking water is quite unhealthy and damaging to the body.
Just 3 hours to go my friend 👍
I envy you.
I'm 10 days of 20-4 and keto combined and I think I could go without eating but ...I haven't pushed myself to it.
@@d6151 it may not be good
Thank you so much Dr Sten Ekberg.
Yes!! Mind set is huge. My brother and sister in law are really stubborn and think what they are doing is perfectly fine. (Eating whatever whenever)
Congratulations
@@LilCraftyNook Fasting helped me lose 20 lb twice. I’m almost 40 and my size is ZERO thanks to fasting
Prayer and fasting!
🙏
