    This song showcases Barry’s natural voice level. The falsetto is cool but his natural voice is also phenomenal

    Bee Gees trivia time...none of the brothers could read music...amazing God-given talent. BTW, in this song it is Maurice who is singing the falsetto.

    • @sandradyer5956
      @sandradyer5956 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      You are correct, it was Maurice singing the falsetto here. I have heard Barry say that Maurice actually had a very good falsetto.

      In the video yes, but if I hear correctly the audio is the recorded version which had Barry singing the falsetto.

    • @dannyolsen9369
      @dannyolsen9369 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Maurice only did it on the live versions, in the recording it was Barry. Barry sang the low part which he couldn’t leave to do the high part at the end.

    You are so right! There just isn’t music like this anymore. Watching you discover the Bee Gees just made my day! There are Bee Gees fans like me that followed them into the 2000’s! They had great music in every decade. I listen to them every night. Their voices just sooth the soul! Thank you for your great reactions!

      Also, if you really loved this song, you should check out “Wind of Change” that they performed on the Midnight Special around this same time period. It is equally great compared to this song.

    This is actually the song where Barry learned he could sing falsetto. The producer thought they needed a high "scream" at the end and Barry said that he'd give it a try and surprised himself when he realized he could sing that high. And the rest is history...

    This is video that is synced with the album recording. This is also the start of Barry singing in falsetto. Story goes that they had finished the session when the producer asked Barry to go into the booth and go off at the end. If you want to hear them live, listen to the midnite special recording.

    Barry’s dad bought him a used guitar for his 9th Christmas and a neighbour showed him how to tune it. The man had spent time in Hawaii during the war, so actually showed him how to tune in open D like Hawaiians. It’s also easier to play in open d and sing at the same time than traditional tuning. It had a distinctly different sound, so when he and Maurice are both playing acoustics it’s a special treat. Their brother Andy also played in open d. Please react to JIVE TALKIN, their 1975 comeback hit. It was inspired by the clickety sound the tires made crossing the bridge going to the studio.

    • @bethanyhuber2598
      @bethanyhuber2598 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Another thing about Barry’s guitar playing is that he is left handed but plays right handed. His rhythm is impressive but he doesn’t get recognized for that, sadly. All three brothers played instruments, but Robin preferred to not play on stage. His unique voice was his instrument. Best group ever IMHO.

    I really like this song because all of them are singing in their natural voices with not as much falsetto...you get a real sense of their voices being used in a very manly way. Don't get me wrong...I love the falsetto...but when they (especially Barry) sing in their natural tenor voices...I find it very manly...very attractive.

    “Lonely Days” is another great song by this group. Many people think that it’s a Beatles song. Barry told this story in 1998, "A manager we had about five years back heard 'Lonely Days' in a restaurant and he said to a friend, 'That's one of my favorite Beatles songs' And he was managing us!"
    I also recommend that you react to some their songs where Maurice was the lead singer. “Man in the Middle, “ and “Closer than Close” are a couple that showcase his talent.

    Nights On Broadway and Fanny you reacted to before are from their 1975 album Main Course. By many considered their best album. It came after 2 years of desert walking for them. They still had hits in Asia and other parts of the world in 73/74 like My World and Wouldn't I Be Someone but in US and Europe they were slowly forgotten.
    On main Course are many more songs that really are impressive. Like Jive Talkin' which were the first number 1 for them in the US since 1971 and Wind Of Change (not to be confussed with scorpions song) which has some really impressive lyrics like "Don't You Under Stand What I Am Saying, We Need A Guy(god) down here, A Man To Lead Us Children, Take Us From The Vally Of Fear". Also there is 2 country vibe songs like Come On Over (Olivia Newton John recorded this as well) and Country Lanes, my favorite with Robin om lead.

    Since you like Barry's falsetto so much you'll find this interesting. Nights On Broadway is where Barry's falsetto was discovered. They were playing around with this song in the studio and wanted the "blamin it all's" sung high so Barry gave it a go and found out he could not only sing in falsetto but he could do it in tune. Up to that point he had no idea. It's true!! With the Bee Gees you're seeing raw talent. You can find some live performances from the 70's on a show called The Midnight Special, lots of them on YT.

    Don't know if you know: they couldn't read music! Never learned. So their talent is truly amazing! They started writing & performing as kids, late 1950s, and the rest is history. Continued up into the early 2000s (Maurice died), then Barry & Robin had separate careers, but still writing & singing. Some performances together. After Robin died, Barry has continued on with his sons & niece sometimes working with him. Incredible talent!
