It's great to see an OG, a musician that was THERE in the 70's and used to carry the heavy keyboards do the gigs and experiment w/ shaping sounds with pedals etc do a demo and enjoy this little Reface CP. It's funny how a lot of young guys like the old stuff and a lot of old guys like the new stuff.
I think it's probably because we grew up with the current technology, and we want to experience what they had to offer back in the 70s and 80s. Same for the old guys, they want to know what its like to use the newer technology
"you and the rest of the band could load this into a van"..."back then a reverb chamber cost you a large size room", lmao...dropping pearls all over this video.
I bought a CP and I absolutely LOVE the sounds outta it, its perfect for doing BeeGees, Abba, Billy Joel, the Doors and a TON of other 70s music! HIGHLY recommended!!!!
Found this video totally by accident I’ve been looking for something that emulated a Rhodes and other sounds of it’s era really well and this is the perfect instrument to do that, awesome demo showcasing what the instrument can do!
Well I had to research it because I thought Phil was incorrect when he said the Wurlitzer came before the Rhodes. I always thought that the Rhodes preceded the Wurlitzer but 5 or more years but I was wrong and Phil was correct! :-)
I have all the originals apart from the CP80 and I have to say it sounds really really good. Obviously it won't play the same but just adapt. Just bought one to plonk on top of Hammond
For an old "back in the day musician", like myself, who owned a number of Rhodes, etc, and has the bad back as to prove it, this little keyboard would be great for gigging. I'd like to try one with a good piano action keyboard controller.
@@patienthands Set the instrument selector switch between 2 options and reboot the synth. Piano sounds pretty good, but might be slightly lower resolution, it's just there for testing purposes.
Love how he is just like "there is a toy piano", plays one riff, and onto the next sound. Lol. Why the toy piano? Seems like Yamaha could have found something better maybe.
Is it just me that picked up some slight distortion on some quick chords? Maybe it's TH-cam but its kind of putting me off, great demo and knowledge though!
Mine does the same (for F+G+Ab+Bb+C also), did you ever solve this? Not a disaster, but the B comes out full blast, which would be less than ideal when playing live.
5:23. Even the Yamaha rep moves right past the Toy Piano with barely a mention. No historical context, no discussion of its value, just, "there's a toy piano" and here's a short sample so people don't say I skipped it. LMAO! Seriously Yamaha, what were you thinking? You only include six official sounds in a profession instrument, and you use up a whole one on a sound no professional has ever asked for or is likely to ever ask for.
I don't own one yet but apparently combined with the effects, the toy piano can sound pretty interesting. I agree though, the toy piano should have been the hidden instrument rather than the grand piano.
Awesome playing you really got some talent! Great demo, I have one which I use for my live shows and to practise while on the road. Pop over to my channel (kesa online) and check it out in action. Thanks again buddy!
@@Dprest-nd4yc even more expensive options don't sound that good, but check out the affordable Casio's for a good starter instrument, they're all pretty decent.

This dude is the best. A musical history lesson and a fantastic demo in one video, no attitude. Bravo!

This guy knows his stuff. Excellent demo.
This may be the best instrument demo I've ever seen. Love this guy!

This is the best review I've seen. Great performing, but also a wonderful history lesson and full of character. Thanks a lot!

this dude is a great demonstrator with the perfect energy, thanks
Great demo with historic information!
There is a hidden acoustic GP sound when you select between the sounds and reboot. It sounds really nice!
Give this guy a raise
Love the little gems of historical info you’re dropping in your descriptions/review sir 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
The Rhodes is the my favorite sounding electric pianio
the best Rhodes sound I've ever heard on a keyboard
theycallmejpj agreed.
The best board I’ve ever owned. Rivals those $3 thousand dollar boards. No joke.
I absolutely love the sound of a Rhodes. Great demo.
You really know your electric pianos, this video was much more interesting than the other reface videos ive seen
man, you're awesome. great review and playing

So nice!
How can I learn to play such nice licks? Any recommendations for music books?
LOVE this demo.
Wonder how this dude’s doing. Great demo
Excellent video love the history, thank you
bravo sir! brilliant video. more power to your elbow (and your fingers!)
Every demo I have seen on this they play one bar of the toy piano. Why did Yamaha even bother?
Great presentation.. Im convinced this is my new buy 🌻
Great presentation. TY!
yamaha reface has a hidden scm acoustic piano.
where??

@@OttosTheName Thanks! I'll give this a shot :)
already have a YC -the CP is next
Thanks for the great review and information!
Nice Sound.

@@202roller now that I have reface cp, it totally makes sense! I'm eating crow tonight, boy! LOL
Hi Shelby how do you find your reface, worth a buy?
@@swishyfish325 high quality sound. I gave up on the mini keys though.
@@smbedzyk also not sold on minis. Any versions with full size u recommend?
I wonder if there's a way that a laptop could be hooked up via USB and be used for preset patches?
why they never show cp80 sound?
Sam which of these would be nearest to a Philicorda? Please.
love this guy
You forgot to demo the 7th patch, the Grand Piano.
These Reface boards are awesome!... But does anyone know if Yamaha has put transposers in any of them for the "key change challenged" amongst us?
They added master tuning, master transpose along with transmit and receive channel.
Perfetta recensione. Grazie 🙏
Is it just me that picked up some slight distortion on some quick chords? Maybe it's TH-cam but its kind of putting me off, great demo and knowledge though!
There's a way to turn that down and off.
That was the part I liked best haha.
Technically the Rhodes came first. I read there’s a trick on these where you can get an acoustic piano sound.
Can you start leaning piano with this one .?
Lone Seng its a little expensive but a great buy. Just be aware the keys are probably smaller, your preference
'Of course back then a good Wahh pedal would take your head clean off if you weren't paying attention.. Oah my the mess.. I remember one time..'
Has anyone compared the Rhodes Sounds Reface CP with ones of the Viscount Legend 70s?
For the first 18 seconds, I really thought he was missing his arms.
Give me this line with full size keys please
Cool dude
How many batteries do you need to use it?
6
Can we use Reface Cp as a controller for DAW (Logic, or Omnisphere)...?
Love Music yes. The keys for sure. Not sure about the knobs. But it has usb and regular midi connections.
like this guy !!
I just got this little beast, but when I simultaneously press F+G+A+Bb+C, the reface adds a B note! Does anyone know how to solve this bug?
Mine does the same (for F+G+Ab+Bb+C also), did you ever solve this? Not a disaster, but the B comes out full blast, which would be less than ideal when playing live.
Mine does not do this. Is it any particular octave or sound?
@@adamandlorraine Upper and lower octaves, middle is fine. The slider doesn't affect it. Any ideas?
@@lordrave3804 I can't get mine to recreate this bug, so you must have a faulty one?
@@adamandlorraine well, that's Yamaha off my Christmas card list. Thanks for checking anyway.
4:45 was wow
Only problem with these Reface keyboards is that, its not got a modulation wheel.
the use of modulation wheel is not common with electro-mechanical sounds. but you can always plug into midi controller)
Rhodes were under £150???

fantastic but sadly still 400 dollars, more than my full sized piano, i want it bad but im short on that kinda cash
Same here, if you found cheaper options anywhere let me know!
