@@ALINKG1 The sound selector switch outputs a signal to a line that sets the selected sound. Now, when you do the "piano trick" of setting the selector in between two settings, the rotary switch gets disconnected, and the CP falls back to a default sound, which is the piano. I drilled a hole in the front panel and installed a simple switch that does the same: I wired it, so it disconnects the rotary switch. Easy to do and very effective.
@@valuemastery Based on your experience of having been inside the circuitry, do you think it is possible to route the aux input to the effects chain and then have a switch to send/bypass? Please say yes.
I love my Reface CP. It goes with me almost everywhere inside my suitcase. It is my go to keyboard for fun and smiles. If only Yamaha had made it with another octave ........
Got one of these on sale from Sweetwater a few months ago, really fun purchase! Have used it for recording as well as for playing parts in choir rehearsal.
I love this so much man. Thanks for keeping it simple! Super inspiring. I always struggle with the same thing: having 5 synths staring at me overwhelmingly. Sitting down with just one center piece really helps getting started again.
I had the DX in 2018, but didn't get much use out of it since it's aimed more at beatmakers, then I sold it and got the CP a year and a half ago...love it!
Great video! & smooth playing! The reface CP really is a fun instrument… but for anyone GASing: You don't NEED it…there are free E-Pianos in Ableton ;)
I think all serious musicians know that when GAS hits, the real solution is to go practice with what you already have. But, sometimes gear acquisition is fun too… 😅
The reface series of synths was the inspiration for midi goblin! You might find it interesting. It can save patches for the reface synths and also adds an arpeggiator (a REAL arpeggiator that arpeggiates the notes you play on with the reface keyboard) a sequencer, a chord/scale generator, midi lfo, midi controller...pretty useful for reface fans
There is always this balance to find I think, especially as someone who is interested in gear. Of course it can inspire ideas, but it's not always necessary. I learned to play/produce in the box, finding myself going back to it more recently. Also your music is now added to my playlist, great listen dude!
Such a great video! AWESOME tones! Thanks 👍🏼 I personally find that having a high-quality keybed in a keyboard is crucial for unlocking my full musical expression, which is why I tend to prefer larger digital pianos. They offer the feel and responsiveness I need to really bring out the best in my playing.
Definitely a great little board. Touch sensitivity is so nice and the sound is great, as well as the FX. Portability is good, build quality is good, and aesthetics reminiscent of an old rhodes. How can you go wrong? Id love a nice ahiny sparkle top wurlitzer version with multiple wurly models but this is great. They could make a 49/61 key version with fold out legs and if it looks sharp they could ask $900 for it, no problem.
Cool video. Love my Reface CP. Would be cool if you showed the fingering for the chords, or the note on a piano graphic. I like your sofa - where did you get it?
I guess you already know that there’s although an hidden acoustic piano sound. If not, a quick search will show you the commands to access that piano ;)
Hey Matt! I'm in love with the color of your movies. How do you color grade your videos? Do you use Davinci, premiere pro or something else? Amazing videos man!
Hey man thanks for tuning in! I started learning simple arrangements of tunes that I loved and over time gradually progressed 🙏🏼 learning songs you like is a good start. I found it to be the most engaging. Hope that helps 😃
Thanks! I’m using a single jack from the left output to instrument in on my audio interface. Then I have my audio interface connected to my laptop running through Ableton. Hope that helps 🙏🏼
I’m new to your channel, really like your playing style, how did you get to the playing ability you now possess? Obviously a good amount of work but did you have a particular approach?
Hey, thanks for joining us! I share a little about it in a previous video. But in short I started practicing piano and fell in love with Jazz and improvisation. Listening to lots of records etc. Feel free to reach out to me on IG if you have any questions :)
It's great, you're great. But I think for producing, plugins are just fine for keys. Where the reface CP shines is truly just as a portable jam machine even live with an acoustic jam. No need for it if just producing really.
Quesiton, if i have a midi track with notes, can i plug the CP and make that the midi track reproduce the sound of the CP? or i have to play it directly from the CP?
Yes, it has midi in and midi out. In your case you just have to choose a piano on the CP and use the effects to find the right sound and tone for your midi track. Although you might still want to record different versions of it as audio files because you can't save presets on the CP. Maybe you want to use different versions of it later on or combine them in some fashion.
There's a secret piano sound on this. Turn it off, put the sound selector between two presets and then power it on.
I modified mine and put an additional switch on the panel to easily select the hidden piano.
@@valuemastery Nice! How did you do that?

How much did it come out to?
Given it runs on batteries and even has passable speakers, its a fantastic instrument for campfire sketches.
u need to make a class about chord progression Matt. good job !
haha i just watch it till the end of the video
Thank you! Glad you saw that bit 😊

The reface always sits by my couch. So fun to pick up and noodle on it. Great keybed, sounds/fx and the onboard speakers are great.
dang, such a solid video. educational story telling, thanks for the inspiration.

All the refaces are great. The CS is really cool with the analogue modelling.
For sure! 🙏🏼

Nice one man! Could you possibly make a video on how to get to this level keys playing as a beginner?
the song came out so good! the chord progression got me amazed, sounds to me like a comfort beat. loved it!
Thank you for listening / watching 😃🙏🏼
So dope Matt. You’re a monster bro. You need a Discord server.

I subbed just because of the mention of that. 👌

love the refaces!
Yessir!! Thanks for watching man 🙏🏼
That last sound added took me straight to a Sonic water level.
I adore my reface. It slots into the studio nicely but is great on-the-go with just an SP404 mk2 or OP-1. Sometimes I play solo by the campfire
Sounds lovely!

Hey, thank you! I shoot in Log and convert to Rec 709 in Premiere Pro. I then adjust contrast and colour temperature to taste 😃

I wanna be able to play like this but can't figure it out yet.

I’m using an FX30 and recently trying an X-S20 😃
