    I know that I'm building a burnout truck for Cleetus and Cars but while I wait for parts to show up. I thought that I'd address how this magnificent machine looks... Let me know what you think! lol. :)

    Use a large sponge with a “little” Dawn soap & water in the bucket. Take full sheets of 3M sandpaper fold the sheets in half keep folding like you would a sheet of paper once it’s in two pieces, fold it in thirds and sand. Try to sand flat because you will be able to see dips if you decided to paint. Best to use a sanding block for the flat areas!

    No expertise here but what I sure appreciate is the sweat equity - I really love that you try stuff out with gusto. That is what I always credit my dad with - I am now almost 64 and he is over 90 but my best memories from younger years had to do with his enthusiasm regardless of outcome - and even now he is like that and I continue to admire him for it. Your family is lucky to have you!

    Tom, your enthusiasm is great. You are so honest and funny. I don’t know anything about cars, but I truly enjoy
    watching your videos. Good luck however you choose to finish the job. I’ll be waiting for the next installment. 👍

    Just continue on. It's going to look really nice when you are done. I would actually add a little green and brown into the mix, then seal it with some semi-gloss clear.

    We had a studebaker station wagon that was that exact colour of blue and half the roof slide back! Remember going down the road standing up as a kid! Loads of fun!

    Tom, look at it this way: Its all prepared for the new bottom (protective) coat, and final top coat. Foundation prep is the most important, and annoying. That part is done! Yaaay! : )

    When I saw that blue on the roof...I thought oh that looks sooooo good. Then...it went down hill from there. 😂 I say try to paint it as close to that blue as possible, and do a matte top coat like a previous poster mentioned. I love seeing old vehicles in a matte finish. 😍

    🌊🏄🏻‍♂️ LOVE that patina!! i know im not your targeted audience, but I am a crafty soul, and could not resist those colors, and it wasn’t until I saw Dawns vid with the stools, (which btw made me LOL and hubs though I was nuts, laughing by my self... )that I realized I was only subscribed to your channel with my other channel (full time mar) and not this one, so I obviously subbed and had to catch up! Anyhow, I am a beach lover and this patina is very very beachy boho style! 🥰🌊🏄🏻‍♂️ xo Marci ( going to the pint store with the stool.... hahahha LOL)

    Use John Deere blitz black it’s super cheap. Durable, looks good. Make sure you get hardner and reducer and a $10 harbor fright gun. .. any questions let me know. I’m a show car painter for one of the big 3. Love the truck. My son and I are building a 70 right now for his first truck

    I probably wouldn’t have sand it because I don’t have the arm strength to do all that sanding. Do a blue matte finish on the truck. I give you credit for experimenting because you don’t know until you try it. I’m sure whatever you choose to do will look awesome.

  • @joannbirdsong583

    Well, actually, I’ve had this thought for a long time that I would kind of like to drive around in a fairly beat up looking vehicle, kind of like this one. Maybe not this bad. But I would like it to run like a top. That way it wouldn’t matter so much if it got dinged up. And nobody would steal it. I think you’ve got yourself a good summer project. And winter. And maybe for quite awhile after that. But it will be good therapy, as they say.

    It can't get any worse. 😂. You definitely need to put some shiny clear over it. And shine up the tires and wheels. I do like the blue. It's kind of camo looking. Lol

    I am going to be doing this exact same thing to my truck in about a month. I have a 70 C10 that was sprayed with a single stage dark blue. I can see hints of the original turquoise peeking through. I would be happy if I could say my truck was mostly turquoise instead of that dark blue.

  • @ceasewatercolorarts
    @ceasewatercolorarts 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I was all for it as you went around the door/windshield. I think that bed is going to kick your butt.
    Having said that, if you do it, a clear coat will probably make a world of difference. If it were me? I'd paint it.
    My son is currently restoring a 69 jeep gladiator and we keep having this discussion about the paint. It has cool patina, but it also has some rust that needs to be attended to.

    From day one, I loved the color of this Truck.
    Before you do anything to it, rub some Coconut Oil on it,
    which will make it look visually, the best that it possibly can,
    before you actually decide how you want to paint or patina it. Coconut Oil
    makes very old items look
    warmed up & healthy again.
    THEN you can REALLY tell which way you you want to
    go, in refinishing.
    Regardless, I LOVE THIS TRUCK!!!!!

    I think the roof and the fender will look good with a clear coat. I might try taking the door down further in spots if you can, right now it looks like it’s trying to be blue camo. 🤷‍♀️😆

  • @ashleymckee1140
    @ashleymckee1140 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Love the blue color and the concept. It looks like there is just too much underlying damage to salvage a consistent patina across the whole truck. In this case I'd say maybe rethink and try something else. Loved the roof though especially when it was wet. Too bad. You'll have fun trying something else.

  • @juliewright1895
    @juliewright1895 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I think it looks kind of cool! is there something that you could put over it that would mute it a little bit but still let the blue show through? You'd probably still have the problem of the extra thick layer of gold on the bed though, wouldn't you? If the whole truck could look like the roof and hood, and you could seal it, that would be cool! I thought this sanded spot on the bed kind of looks like a flame with all of the different colors showing through. looking forward to seeing what you end up with!

  • @lorid6544

    Me & my hubby think it looks like blue camouflage. Stick it by a lake in some woods up north, or by the Mississippi River near Lake City or Wabasha & it would blend right in! Now, hubby says,"Looks like it needs to be sandblasted & painted flat gray. Not Bondo gray, though.

    Just remember "ugly" is instantly "beautiful" if it wins the race. Seal it and shine it,,then focus on what's under the hood, that will make this ugly duckling a beautiful swan as it wins the race! 😉

    Oil it is a good idea, but I recommend orange oil and wax. It is called feed n wax. It is a refinish product I used on a beat up galvanized tub that had been used to mix cement it made it look awesome. I used the tub as the bottom of our 2019 Christmas tree. Do a small area to see the effect. If you don't like it you can use it to revive any wood finish.

  • @awrosemba

    I would try to rattle can a flat light blue on the fenders and bedsides, then come back and sand down just a little patina on the top edges of the fenders. Then clear coat.
