Hey, thanks for the shout out! I love the 67 - 68 Chevy Trucks, I have restored three of them so far. When I get ready to do another one it will be 503 green. Rocky Dorrier
You bet and thanks for helping me out earlier! I am glad you caught the video! I am going that route too. Just a cool old color! I gave you a sub. Thanks again!
A tip to add to this great video-on the final paint coat like on the green before you spray go ahead and lightly spray a little water on the surface in a few spots and paint the green on top that gives added patina look-
Yeah couldn't agree more. I used to spend so much time getting my vehicles shiny and nice, then some idiot would always scratch it or something. Patina all the way for me now...
All that work for your bed to look like my old VW Bus T2 is looking right now. :D Really gave me some ideias of how to make it look better. Tks and subscribed
Thank you very much! I didn’t like the patina look back in the day, but I really like them now. I think it adds a lot of character to what Mother Nature can do to a vehicle. Best of luck and thanks for watching!
They were only new once. I'm doing 4 K20s two have great patina, one Seafoam the other was a Connecticut DPW orange that pushed snow for 50 years. In all the restoration work getting the faded, chalk-like patina right is most challenging. I sometimes get lucky and find some little piece that matches but the welding and plastic work must be doctored or left raw. Your video is done well.
Thank you Frank! I love hearing you have 4 going. Each one we save will bring years of memories for someone else. Matching patina is an art I haven’t mastered, but it is fun to try! Thanks for sharing and for watching!
Thanks! I won’t lie. That was the 1st time I ever tried that! Figured how bad could I screw it up! Trying to find good ones around here is getting harder. The rust is getting pretty bad on them now. Thank you for watching!
@@C10TruckNerd I've also seen dents in a bumper brazed in spectacular look. Patena/some chrome/gold color if the brass melted into the debt divets. Torch and brass rod brazing us actually a real old metal working method on cars so it actually "looks" authentic. So is lead, but the fumes are toxic. Babit is a safe substitute for lead Experimenting with these? Will take you in awesome new directions
Leaning towards going this route with my '68. Had to replace the cab corners and rockers though... I guess I could just do the filler work on those and attempt to blend in some paint.
I won’t lie. It was pretty satisfying to experiment. I was really impressed with the U-POL spray paint O’Reilly’s mixed up. Little pricey but it went a long way. I was able to do the bedside, side of cab and 2 complete coats on the dash.
Mix a jug of saltwater and vinegar, soak some rags and put them on the rusty bits. It will be really rusty again the next day and not look like sanded down rust.
Original ocean green on my56 was only faded, very little rust, had I known then what I know now, I never would have had it painted, but it was 1997, patina term had not been invented yet, one of my big regrets.
Really like this look! Thinking of trying it myself but was wondering does it not need a coat of primer before you painted it? For the paint to stick to?
For longevity primer would be helpful. If you like how rust looks now you might skip it. But you will have to touch it up more frequently unless you put a clear over it. There are some neat companies that make wipe on clear coats. I plan to try one out in the future.
So I was wondering ..... How long did you spend getting all that overspray off your truck parked 3" behind you ? How about the gravel chips from that brilliant rock throwing technique of yours ... lmfao ! 🤪👍
Sorry but patina is another word for lazy Ness . I have rattle canned my 67 two times ...once gloss black and the other time krylon cherry red and got compliments both times and I liked it because it was all one color . I loaned my 67 to my brother to cut fire wood and I didn't get it back because he sold it but didn't give me any money for it ....one reason I don't talk to my brother. I would rather have my truck back than the money but that ain't gonna happen . Great video if you want to patina something but that ain't me....rattle can is the only way to go if you can't afford the body shop!!!
Sorry to hear that happened! I never was a fan until lately. I let nice paint limit when and where I used to drive because I was worried something might happen to it. Now, I’m more about suspension and drivetrain. I hope you can find you another 67 to make yours again! Thanks for sharing and for watching!
I bet! I have never been a good body guy. This was actually pretty satisfying and fun. I am really leaning towards the patina look for my next build. Thank you for watching!

That’s a cool tip! I will try that next time. Thanks for sharing!
Good job! Put the box on the truck…would like to see the whole package.
I should have! I ended up selling it to a kid that needed a good 67 503 bed.
Yeah couldn't agree more. I used to spend so much time getting my vehicles shiny and nice, then some idiot would always scratch it or something. Patina all the way for me now...
I enjoy having a truck that I don’t have to worry about it raining, driving it down a dirt road, or a bird pooping on it! Good times!
@@C10TruckNerd Could not agree more!!
That is some great work!
Thank you! I won’t lie, that was a lot of fun. I figured I could make it any worse.

I really enjoyed your video.
Thank you! I’m getting much better at it now. I’ll have a follow up in the future.

Great video ❤
I appreciate the support!
My neighbors here the theme song from Sanford and Son when I come down the road with a trailer lol
Outstanding! That made me laugh out loud. Such a good tune!
Im building a 78 C10 Patina Shop Truck on my channel. I enjoyed your take on
re-patina'ing it. Turned out nice!
Thanks! You got a pretty cool shop truck there too!
Lol that’s actually pretty good. I’m still trying to look for one here in Florida but I haven’t had any luck as of yet.

U did really good. How about white highlights? Bondo spots?
Thank you! I've been experimenting with new methods. I hope to make another video soon.

How can you go wrong with that combo?
Thank God for fast forward !!!
Ouch!

I like it! I’ll give that a try on the GMC. Thanks for sharing!
I like that idea, then what just use those soaked rags and wipe the whole truck down with them?

I understand that! I stripped my 71 in medium green to paint it Emerald green. Then it was too nice to drive.
Great job! What color of brown is that?
Thank you! It’s called rusty metal primer by rust oleum. Home Depot stocks it around here.

Hello Chad! Awesome video. Would you be interested in participating in a 15 minute interview asking about your opinion on patina vehicles?
I appreciate it! Shoot me an email and we can get something worked out. Itsthechad71@gmail
What can of green is that?
This can was bought and mixed at a local O’Reillys. The brand was U-pol. The GM paint color is light green code 503.
you remind me of Mr Rogers

I probably should spend a little more time on prep work... Nah! The best patina rock throwing technique I have found is side arm! Lol
Chad! I know you were outside, but mask up brother. That upon paint is not good to breathe in!
Good tip! I might get more views if I cover my face too!
Don't worry . The truck 3" behind him caught most of it .. lmfao !!! Good job Chad 😷🤭
Отлично показанный пример для работы.
Thank you!
Sanded off a beautiful patina huh? I swear... some peoples kids...
Rust showing through that light green code 503 is my favorite.

No body cares and patina paint jobs are dope
Can I buy a cab
That one sold.
Acrylic paint or base?
The U Pol brand that O’Reillys mixed was base. They also have clear. I was really impressed with the color match.
I don't know I've been doing it for almost 40 years and I'm still working on it being retired now
