Looks good for DYI Couple of small tips Once you turn your fan on.... start a draft..... leave the fan running the whole time' if not you're starting up a new draft / sudden burst of flowing air which will result in more trash/dirt in your paint job. Also leave the exhaust fan running several hours after you finish painting to prevent gas off/ chemical release settleing back on the paint resulting in solvent pop.

That a perfect color for that truck! I was hoping to see the inner drivers side of the bed just to see where the two fuel filler necks are. Amazing paint results man!

@@WHITLEYAUTOWORKS yes, I would probably give it at least a week as well considering it seems like rustoleum seems to take longer to harden. Although I have never used acetone to mix with it. I’ve always used mineral spirits. It seems like the acetone might allow it to dry quicker.
The song you picked is Jeff Hardys theme song "Writing on the wall" and also, I have a 89 F150 that I will be painting sometime, so this was very helpful and cheap
If your going to paint that way I would at least recommend using enamel reducer and some transtar wet look hardener if you can find it I think they still make it

It turned out amazing! In my experience, red Rust oleum fades pretty fast. If you decide to go back and clear it later. I would love to see some pearl in it. I also think it would look really good 2 toned with a white strip down the sides and a white roof.
Wow, TH-cam is hearing my thoughts. First off, great job. I myself have an '89 F-150 a friend painted a while back. But now, I have a '93 F-150 I want to paint in Rust-Oleum smoke grey. I'm going to add hardener and clear to make a durable paint job. Any idea how much hardener and how much clear to add?
You're going to need a gallon of Rustoleum smoke gray paint a gallon of 2k urethane clear and a can of catalyst hardener for the paint. I'll include links to the clear and hardener I suggest using to get the best results Thanks for watching! amzn.to/4hNIgnP amzn.to/4eHUJGx
Looks great! Was curious how many finish coats? I have an old 24 year old Jeep XJ took to 3 body shops they would touch due to rust. Did 2 rattle can coats Rust-oleum rust neutralizer primer on hood and roof and 3 coats Rust-oleum rattle cans on roof and 5 coats on hood did not have a garage but came out decent to get it done before winter would like to paint again your way in a few years
Yes I did two good coats of the Rust-Oleum rust primer and then three solid coats of the safety red I would recommend adding a little can of catalyst hardener into the Rustoleum for long-term but overall we were very happy with it Thanks for watching
I did that a few years ago with a vehicle I put together. Painted it with that color pain, I think mine was brick red. after a week of drying we drove it to city traded it in for a van that was worth 3000.00 and they gave me 2500.00 for my car that was only 100.00
Another great vid! I'm working on a 87 4runner and have been leaning on Raptor Lining the truck. Every time I see one of your Rustoleum spray outs it make me want to use Rustoleum instead. Decisions???? Truck came out great! Look forward to the next one...
Thanks for watching yeah it turned out pretty good I was happy and I'm sure he will be too He's seeing it for the first time just like everybody else on video but he will get it back later today lol
Awesome job as always. For a budget rustoleum paint job on an old truck, would it be fine to just sand the existing clear off to make it dull, and hitting it with paint? If so, what grits would you use to prep it for the paint?
Yes as long as the clear is in decent enough shape that's perfectly fine just sand it with 400 or 600 grit wet sand and you will be good to go thanks for watching
Great stuff. Thanks for taking time to make these informative video. I’m trying to paint my jeep wrangler. And I’m cheap. Lol. But want decent results. I’ll have the knowledge now. Just need some skill
👀 looks great. That red really pops. I remember the very first truck I sprayed I used the red led primer and that was over 40 years ago. I was wondering, if you could spray clear coat over the primer and what that would look like? I’m tempted to try it. Love your work, you definitely have a good looking Superduty ford.
Yes you can do clear coat over primer honestly it's pretty much the same as shooting it over paint if you use a gloss clear it'll be glossy if you use a satin or matte it'll be satin or matte finished I actually did a video on that one if you want to check it out thanks for watching
I have the same truck but a extended cab, I’m so glad I found this, been very scared of painting my truck with rust oleum, but definitely gonna do it now! Thank you for the vid! Did you use any hardner by chance??

The wait time between coats ?? Do you ever use Japan drier ? If you do add clear coat how long before applying the clear coat ? 60 % & 40 % acetone what numbers would that be on a paint bucket ?
I typically wait 20 to 30 minutes between coats an hour after my last coat before I do clear coat and check and see if it's tacky but not pulling paint off with my finger you can use Japan dryer or a catalyst hardener Japan dryer you add it 10% to the mix and the catalyst hardener is the whole thing to a gallon. As far as 60% paint 40% acetone is pretty much the same as a 3 to 1 mix on your paint cup thanks for watching
I have a question... if you would have sprayed a base coat of white, then red, do you have to let the white dry before you start spraying the red? If so do I need to sand the white with 1000 grit paper? I am trying to teach myself. Thanks
If you wanted to go that route I would have primed it in white primer rather than paint then did the red paint for easier coverage but you don't want to go higher than 600 before paint because you want the paint to have enough bite to the surface so it holds up long term thanks for watching!

Used to be that a gallon of Rustoleum pro was 30 bucks about 8 years ago. A quart was 8 bucks and change. Double that now. Still a bargain. Lowes seems to have the best prices anymore. Not a plug, just what it is. Me, I'd have cut it 50-50 with acetone, helps keep orange peel down, just need to watch for runs. But that's just me. 😏 Still, great job looks nice. Kudos, bro.
Honestly done this way You're probably looking at a good four to five years but for under $100 you can't really complain now if you were to go and spend the extra money to add a 2K clear over top then you could possibly get 7 to 10 years out of it if well kept Thanks for watching
