Ain’t nothing better than a couple cold snacks and a 2+ hour episode/video of VGG on a Friday night after a hard week out of town. Thanks Derik appreciate you
Derek, thank you for being real in these videos and showing us the good the bad and the ugly. You could easily edit out all the mistakes and issues but you don’t and we get to see what it’s really like. Thanks for all that you do for us!
Hey Derek I painted my 1950 Ford shoebox with a 50 dollar gallon of John Deere Blitz Black flat paint and my cheap Hobo Freight spray gun, came out great, well, pretty good. Made me feel better to see you do the same. Great channel, great family, great American, 79 year old hot rodder still learning, appreciate what you do...
I don't know how this is for people not in the field but as trained metal worker and industrial mechanic that completely switched fields it is cathartic to watch someones process that clearly has years of experience and a feel for what they are doing. There are loads of people that do good metal work but the ones that have a connection to the metal that goes beyond just numbers and measurements, that can feel what is right and what isn't are on another level and a joy to watch and work with. That body work segment scratched an itch that I didn't even realize I had. Thanks Derek!
Derrick I just wanna say thank you! This is the only youtube channel I watch consistently with videos that average over an hour long, what you do reminds me so much of watching horsepower TV on spike every Saturday morning with my dad, thank you for all that you post and keeping hotrod alive!
I used to watch those same shows on spike as a teenager. My uncle's introduced me to the gearhead lifestyle as a young man and they were what I looked forward to every week. Most of my family was a GM only household but one uncle in particular was a mustang guy who pretty much set in motion the rest of my car obsession. As a teenager in the late 90's the 5 liter mustang was the top dog in my area. I never understood it until a friend of mine had an 85 GT that waxed all the local guys on the street. Track numbers didn't matter, it's what you could do at a stop light that set you apart.
Me too, bro. Some of my earliest memories are me and the old man, plowing snow in the 82(?) crap brown Chevy. She ran forever, just rusted out eventually. Good times. Love to see someone actually taking some care of an old square body.
Its one of the many things that separates this channel from all the others. His instruction, humor, his family, and genuine humbleness really makes it the best.
Great Episode on Remington! Awesome! Always good entertainment and a load of laughs talking to the camera like we were there funnin' & critisizin' with ya! Are ya putting back Jay Wolfe's Dealer emblem's? Cause now ya got holes and it was painted. Got a Jay Wolfe 1987 Acura Integra from Kansas City we got going up here in Southern Cow Hampsha' Havin' fun with it! Keep those great vids a comin'! 😊
I can’t thank you enough Derek, Jessica and the kids. You guys do such great work as a family effort. Truly thankful for you guys and all you do behind the scenes.
A wonderful tribute to your Grandparents. They will always be in your work and your hearts. 60 bucks? Nope. Priceless. Great job as always! The mirror wrassling was the best!
I'm a real perfectionist both on and off the job, and it's always helpful and instructive to see a great example of getting 80% there with 20% of the labor. Sometimes that's really the difference between getting something decent done and getting nothing done at all.
As a fellow perfectionist, that is more valuable than most know. HVAC installer here doing change-outs, which sometimes feels like I’m remodeling a house; it’s hard to not go the full 9 yards. Not everything has to be the Taj Mahal!
At my work, they oft repeat the mantra: don't let perfect get in the way of better. As you say, better to get something done than do nothing unless it's perfect!
Absolutely amazing transformation, looks awesome. Love the wheels as well. What a great way to pay homage to your grandparents. They would be very proud.
Looks great and I love how you paid tribute to your grandparents! You actually remind me of my grandfather. He was always in his building working on something. And he was the best mechanic I have ever seen. That little guy is great help and going to be a chip off the ole block
I’ve made a “paint booth” out of pvc pipe and drop cloth plastic. Couple filters in one end and exhaust fans (Walmart box fans) in the other with shop lights inside the booth. Works great! You can disassemble it for storage when done.
“Just a happy little tree there” Almost spit my coffee!! You’re definitely the Bob Ross of the square body! Taking something from nothing and making it something to look at!!! Thanks for a great show!!
I think you are the single most important automotive TH-camr out right now. The way you explain multiple ways to do the same task you reach people at different budget points is amazing. Keep it up Derek!
Number one. Derek is the auto shop teacher we all should have had back in school. Two, the barn cat is a Diva. Three, Bentley will be a gear head for life and that's just great! Loved this one like all the rest. Thanks Derek!
Great job on the truck Derek, one of the first trucks I remember travelling in with my dad.. later on working with him in the same truck a few years later! Lots of memories! Bentley is really becoming a great helper for you around the shop and its great to see him picking up the skills from his dad!
Derrick , Great Job on the upgrade and restoration of the old Chevy Farm Truck . You've definitely breathed new life into it. Honoring your grandparents with the Bieri Farms Artwork is fantastic . I really admire the mechanical ability that Bentley has and your working along with him as young lad which has really developed his talent and confidence. All your sons are a credit to you and Jessica. Greetings from New Brunswick Canada
First of all I love the work you did and the approach to fix up your project. Now I heard a fella say he didn’t want a bunch of sympathy but- my condolences to you and your family on the loss of your grandmother. Honoring the family the way you did was first class.
I stopped working on my vehicles almost 40 years ago, but enjoy the heck outta watching you do what you do, Derek. I find your channel fascinating, even thought I know I'll never work on my own vehicles again. It's nice to 'repair vicariously' through Vice Grip Garage. Happy New Year to you and your very nice family!
Awesome 2 hrs. Looks great and a tribute to your Grandparents is priceless. Love that you involve your sons with your work. Gotta get the young involved as wrenching on your own rigs will continue to be a dying art. Love your channel
Awesome tribute to your Grandparents and Family Unit!! Great economical paint job on the rig!! Wished a Feller and Family Unit lived up in my neck of the woods around Jonesborough, TN!! But, all & all just happy to have you all living here in I think the best state in the U.S.!! Sorry for the passing of your Grandma, but you said it best!! Celebrate Her life well lived!! Stay warm!! I guarantee this North Dakota cold snap will retreat!!
Love this, Derek! Dad had an 81 - 350 Silverado. I slept in it many a time when I got back from parties and the house was locked up. The thoughts about your Dad made my Evening. Great job, my Friend.
Good job Derek. Nice tribute to your grandparents. I miss mine. I have a 4 year old grandson too and hope to have as positive an influence on him as they made on me. My favorite is still you and your brother getting your Grandpa's truck running again, but this will be a lasting tribute. Not just the art, but the fact that it's a working truck! Being used like a truck!
Just did a similar level of paint job with a friend's son. He brought himself his first hotrod pickup and wanted to shine'r up a little bit.let him do most of the dirty work sanding and prepping. Done up in the dusty old shop. Turned out decent enough with some single stage paint that a guy can stand back 20' and squint one eye and feel pretty good about himself. The young feller was so thrilled and proud of himself for the work he put into his pride and joy. After a couple months of nights and weekends, ended up having a great time working with him. I think he learned a lot and I ended enjoy a project again just for the sake of doing a project. Can't wait to see him cruising around town this summer!
Sending love from my family to yours, thank you for everything you do for your fans, and I'm sorry for your loss but glad you were able to express your love for your grandparents with that beautiful painting. My little boy also was happy to see Bentley, he's a big fan of his and hopes to see another episode of Little Grip Garage someday. Hope you are doing well and remember to take time out for yourself as well, we love you and the videos you make, but I'm sure i speak for a lot of us that we'd be just as happy knowing you are remembering to put your feet up with the family.
Awesome transformation! I love the way it looks and nice tribute to your grandparents! I wish I could weld half as good as you Derek! Totally impressed with your patch panels and welding abiliti!
I always liked your videos, they make me happy and make me smile. I laugh inside when you're making some of your comments about fixing things, stepping over things, viewing things, pretending you didn't see some thing and explaining things people or viewers mught ask about. For me, your channel is relaxing and gives my mind a needed break thanks for the video.
looove that you're getting into some concrete bodywork with a build. always hoped you would do that more. it means that there's some real roadworthy-ness on the horizon for a lot of your rescues. would be nice to see the big old LeSabre brought back and being done - if you still have it. Love that car
This truck restoration was amazing. We love the paint on the doors to commemorate Dereks grandparents its beautiful! Remington will run for many moons and do its job around the Lodge. Derek better watch out Jessica may snatch this baby up for getting her groceries! Always good to see Bentley helping his dad on these vehicles. Good video, nice wheels, now to replace that seat and do the inside cab?!
Watching this makes me really miss my first truck. A 1984 Chevy c10, had to sell it so I could have a roof over my head and I regret it every day. An 84 c10 is like finding a needle in a hay stack. That truck was the huge reason I started working on vehicles. Thank you for making these videos. I love watching your channel. Can't wait till my boys are a little older to help my husband and I with our future projects!
Sorry to hear about your grandma but so glad you had all the time you had to spend with her and now this truck will be a daily reminder of all the great times you have had with them.
Agreed! A decent seat rummaged around for at different junkyards could really make that a true going to town rig! Somethings gotta be done with those door cards too. Simple fix.
@@ViceGripGarage you're such an inspiration to alot of us here. I'm 52 with a 15yo son and I take lessons from you on how I'm raising him. He's homeschooled by me and we are both car freaks LOL. THANKS FOR EVERYTHING MY GUY♥️
What an amazing change! Totally agree with you - wasn't a lot of $$ but sure was a lot of skilled labor. Not just the time on the project, but your years of experience with this sort of work showed (as it always does). For me something goes wrong and I'm like "ah crap I don't know how to fix this now", but you just power through and fix it and nobody can tell! I love your long form videos, always makes me happy to see you post. I'm truly sorry for your loss, and love that you honored your Grandparents with the paint job - your buddy did a fantastic job. Much love bro!
WOOOOOOHOOOOOOOO!! New stuff!!!! Been sitting here all day looking at older videos and it paid off!!!!!!!!! My favorite mig body wire is .025 gauge! Melts in like butter and blends two panels beautifully Love them square bodies!!!Thanks man!!!!!
I really love watching your videos, even little Grip Garage and Vice Grip Lodge... You and your family are awesome, I Love how you and your family share in the recordings, and whomever edits the content is awesome. I Love the personalities, the being natural... All of you, you, Jessica and your 3 kids, have become a regular part of my every day. Thank you for being a source of relief from my day to day while edumicating me! 😏
Great insight on cabin corner repairs and both rear fender bottom metal repairs behind the rear tires. First time where I have practical approach to setup, bending, trimming, and finalization. Great approach to repairs.
Great video, as usual, Derek. 1938 was a good year; my birth year. Just turned 86 and I'm glad I can still watch these videos and enjoy them. Keep up the good work.
There are many words to describe you, but LAZY is definitely NOT one of them. Love all the work you put in for all of us Fellas and Fellettes just to entertain us.
Hey Derek, you just amaze me at what you can do, you and your little faller, transformed that truck into a show piece, congratulations, i really mean it, just wish more people would rescue old vehicles.
One thing to note on oil based paints, with proper prep, hardener, and application they can look really nice. Just know that you really can't ever coat over them again with a urethane or enamel because traditional coatings are "hotter" and will eventually eat the paint below. On a positive note, tractor paints are slightly acidic and will kill rust. They do an excellent job at preserving vehicles!
Great job, Derik!! Watching you do your magic on a Friday evening it don’t get much better than that!! It don’t get no better than that. Keep up the great work. Thanks for sharing!!
Little tip I learned when installing patch panels is to overlay the new panel over the old and cut them both at once. This gives you a nice clean line and makes it easy to tack in place. Learned that from one of the guys on power block a few decades ago 😅
When I was in high school I drove a ‘79 3/4 ton just exactly like this one. It was even white with 8 lug turbines. It was the first rig I ever worked on. It really brought back fond memories when I saw this. My mom got divorced and we needed grocery money, so I sold it when I was 17. It was promptly wrecked by the new owner. I’d give ANYTHING to have that truck back. Thanks for the trip down memory lane
My third vehicle was a 1974 Chevy c10 Cheyenne super 2wd long bed dark Carmine red and frost gloss white, and primer grey on spots on the passenger side door and the red oxide on the Dr side door and the grey sandable primer on the front fenders and the grey Chevy sport 77 truck hood junkyard non kinked $45 score .. i traded a car i never drove on the road but it was a very solid gm gbody car a 1983 metallic dark brown Buick Regal Limited 15 inch magnum Buick steel and black accents road rally wheels and the only bad spots on the car was the right side front corner of the fiberglass bumper filler was cracked and lost a small section out of it, and the door was scratched up and the right side mirror was knocked off from reversing out of the garage at night when the car was new and it never got fixed, was a 128k mile car had the window sticker paper and the factory 1983 Buick Regal and century owners manual and Delco sound system for the new for 83 dual shaft am fm stereo with etr..car had beautiful dark chocolate brown velour Limited pillow top interior and the stainless steel look of the guage cluster i loved that, and the dash was almost perfect considering it was 1995 the car was a 1983 with 128k miles, and the car came from Dayton Ohio and it was almost absolutely rust free.. atleast i didn't find any but my cousin has told me several times just being the front a arms on both sides it had holes in the frame and just behind the rear bumper on both sides so oh well the body was almost perfect and so was the interior with the exception being part of the headliner
Great video Derek, your choice of wheels on your projects always amazes me how good they suit the vehicle. There's a talent there. Nice to see your little human enjoying helping you also. Look forward to the next one , from sunny South Australia ,93 degrees today in your language...
Yeh... Derek has been staying true. It's inspirational. Thanks. Very entertaining and informative in a useful way, as well. GB these guys who do this. I'm enjoying Saturday aft...
Derek...very COOL! We love how 'Remington' turned out (perfectly imperfect, which is perfect). The mirrors, new lenses, pinstripes, rare cool wheels and the tribute to your grandparents door art all make the truck special. We hope to see you haulin' some things in it in videos in the future.
I’m new to the channel as of a couple months ago, I ve learned a lot from your tutorials, 😂 love your humor and vocabulary. I catch myself saying all be dipped. I find myself also keeping my peepers open for a vehicle to rehab. Mission accomplished , job well done I’m addicted, love the content.
How cool is that door art. Having lost my mom recently, the tribute was very touching and proves a guy has a feeling. Awesome stuff. 1938 was a good year.
Two hours well spent watching you do your thing. What a transformation to your farm truck, just fantastic! Keep them coming and I will keep on watching! Great content, No, fantastic content!
Body work with basic tools?? Two words. Fitzees Fabrication. That guy is a sheet metal wizard using an angle grinder, an I-beam and a 40 year old body hammer. He, like you Derek, seem like great, salt of the earth people. Y’all make the world a better place. Keep up the amazing work. You’re more appreciated than I’m able to properly express. Cheers from Texas.
My dad passed in 2018 but he was like you in so many ways about vehicles! All the questions I had for him, I find answers to in your videos! Single mom at 24 with 2 kids I want to teach about this one day when they’re older! Learning as much as I can but also, they might up and surprise me and start teaching me themselves lol Love what you do! Thank you for bringing us along ❤
Derek, your decision making process for wearing PPE seems to be generally random, but I applaud your increased effort at protecting your eyes and ears at all. And no, protecting the only two eyes you'll ever have is not a "waste of time". Keep up the good work!
I was happy to see you - Derek - using a face shield when cutting & grinding. Because...we (I'm pretty sure most everyone would agree) want you to protect your peepers in order be able to see what vehicles to rescue for many years to come so we can ride along! Nice work once again! Edit: The door art work is great!
And a mask please when breathing the contents of those cars and trucks the micro dust and contaminates from the mice dropping and urine well take a toll later in life, please wear a mask, we can hear you talking just fine, I can't believe Jessica let's you get away with that.. your the best so need to keep you going Sir!! Just some old guys advice....
Loved the video as always. My only minor request is that I’d like to see you protect your eyes and lungs a little bit better. Safety glasses or that Peterbuilt windshield visor and maybe a 3m half face P100 mask when painting or sanding. Once that crap gets in your lungs it doesn’t come back out. I know you love your family above all else like a man should, I’d like to see you stick around for them for as long as possible!! I’m not talking hazmat suit and gloves and hearing protection and hard hat, just safety glasses and a small respirator type mask like I use for airbrushing. Otherwise, Keep up the great work brother!!

I think he learned a lot and I ended enjoy a project again just for the sake of doing a project. Can't wait to see him cruising around town this summer!
Remington is lookin' really good! Well deserved for a great old hard working truck. Especially like the beautiful way the rust outs were fixed.
This is the kind of video I been waiting for, simple, easy patch panels to get you by and same with the paint. This content was fantastic!
Love that car
turns out Derek is actually pretty good at body work. i guess we want to see more of it :D not gonna lie tho the door dent drives me crazy
Good video, nice wheels, now to replace that seat and do the inside cab?!
i think bentley was eyeballin that for cruzin for chickzzzzz bentley thats a chick magnet you will have to beat them off with stick son😉
Much respect to all American Families and men! This is a great country for people like this. Simply make stuff better.. that’s it! Love yall!
Sorry to hear about your grandma but so glad you had all the time you had to spend with her and now this truck will be a daily reminder of all the great times you have had with them.
Love to see something done with the interior. The exterior deserves it
Agreed! A decent seat rummaged around for at different junkyards could really make that a true going to town rig! Somethings gotta be done with those door cards too. Simple fix.
Derrick My condolences to you and your family for your loss My prayers are with you and your family. I love and watch only your TH-cam channel
That truck looks great I'm quite certain you and your families efforts would make your Mom and Dad very proud. Well done sir.
Remington looks awesome and I absolutely love the tribute on the doors for your grandparents. Thank you for another awesome episode Derek. 👏
Great tribute to your grandparents, Derek. Looks like a new rig.
Thanks 👍
Love shop security is always lurking in the background 😂 Really enjoy watching how to save these old rigs
Glad you enjoyed
that's the Mousenator 5000™
Love to see them boys in the shop with you! Hope you and your whole family had a great Christmas, and God Bless you all.
It's in very good shape for the age!
Good idea to make it last!
Nice to see it getting some TLC!
Thanks for the video!
Brilliant as always, sitting here in the UK admiring your work . Keep on doing what you do
Love it when you show how to make things easier and less complicated than everyone else
Great Job! Thanks for the tribute to your Grandparents!@
Sometimes you get too much of a gap when you do that. If you keep trimming little by little you get the desired gap you want for a good weld
Sorry for your lost great job on the shop truck for low budget may God bless your family
Australia here also. Shite Victoria weather here.
Yeh... Derek has been staying true. It's inspirational. Thanks. Very entertaining and informative in a useful way, as well. GB these guys who do this. I'm enjoying Saturday aft...
half a cold pepperoni pizza and 2 cups of coffee, along 2+ hours of Vice Grip filmographination, my Friday is feeling mighty fine.
We're dang near snowed in here.. glad I have something to watch!
We're getting nailed in salt lake city Utah 🎉
Man I know your proud of that young man. Chip off the block. Truck looks great.
I'LL be dipped! 😉
You do know he has shirts with I'll be Dipped on them ? My guy has one!
How cool is that door art. Having lost my mom recently, the tribute was very touching and proves a guy has a feeling. Awesome stuff. 1938 was a good year.
A 2 hour VGG? YES PLEASE! What a great lead in to the playoffs this weekend! Time to settle in with a whole FLEET of cold snacks!
Learning as much as I can but also, they might up and surprise me and start teaching me themselves lol
Love what you do! Thank you for bringing us along ❤
Such a cool project! I couldn't imagine it turning out better!
