Thanks for your support, I'll catch you guys on the next one =]
You can also cut a piece of Pex tubing to length and then put a slice in it and slide it back over that striker as a new bushing.
yep, that's what I did too
Those square body doors are notorious for the door striker bolt issue, Im glad someone finally made a video about it.
Did the same repair and it cost me $1.78 for a 5/8 size hose, cut two 1” pieces and installed each on driver and passenger side. Excellent cheap hack 🤘🏾
Best trucks ever
🤘🏻😎
Not with a factory Qnet 4.3/400/2.73 10 bolt… C10 swb Silverado.
I just picked up a 1979 c/10 not even an hour ago!
@@n_y_o_o_m congrats on that man , on my second 85 but always wanted a 78
They're forever projects man it's never ending lol
I fix the latch on every square body I’ve ever pick up.
This, new bushings in the hinges, and a little bit of adjustment makes ‘‘em work like butter.
This is really helpful I need to do this on my 78 I have to slam my doors as hard as I can and they still don’t close all the way
My grandfather always just used an old piece of a water hose as a bushing for the striker
It's also an air problem. That's why newer trucks have vents in the back of the cab.
Usually it’s not the striker that is the problem, it’s the door hinge bushings that wear out and let the door sag which in turn makes the latch not align with the striker…
As you noticed there is a lot of room for adjustment. You pretty much just readjusted your striker… you could have moved the original striker just as easily! But you need to fix the hinges! Notice the body lines have your doors dropped a little
Except the striker is missing the bushing also.
Great stuff -thanks man
Nice 👍🏾 I gotta do the same appreciate the video & insight
Haven't replaced mine yet, but I just ordered a pair. I noticed one set was torx and the new set was allen or whatever its called.
Before I do mine, I'm going to draw a center line on each side of the bolt and outline the Jumbo washers on the bolt to make sure it goes back where it was. Might put a dab of the weakest Loc-tite on it before cranking it down.
Good luck with the CUP holder, I just bought a 84 had the same cup holder the ash tray door will get bent .
Try 1/2 copper coupling on the door latch part. Slips right over
I have to slam my door harder than the titanic hit the iceberg 😅
Just replaced those door catches on my 1981 and I cant believe that fixed the "door slam" issue. I reused the old washer because so the paint would match. I would not use that cup holder what so ever. I have a Rubbermaid caddy that's sits on the floor right behind my gearshift.
When I replaced my strikers, they were just about in bad shape as yours. I used a pair of vice grips to hold the plate.
Nice!
Nice Bro! Where do I get those Door Bushings for my 1991 OBS?
I think you forgot the extra washer off the old striker cup 🥤 holder looks nice
Cute cup holder, but IMO they're waaaaaaay too proud of it. $$$
When I get my Squarebody I'm adding the cup holders to it and call it my Dr. Pepper holder
The door Striker bolt fixed my door closing issues
Dude never fix the doors that's what we're famous for 🤯
I just picked up nylon bushings from lowes in the hardware section. Work perfect. Dirt cheap.
Good idea! How long have you had them and are they holding up? I’d imagine the same
@@projectswithjj 3 years. Still fine
not much wrong with the door striker jump in and try rolling down the window an inch
doors usually close no problem
these cabs were always very airtight
keep things like strikers ,hinges, and bushings clean, adjusted, and lightly oiled and
they will keep you happy and last longer.
Hey bro where did you get the cupholder from
Where did u get the cup holders
Black tape. Quick and easy
I’ve seen one guy use a Honda latch To get rid of that problem
Are you able to share the links for these products?
Great video 👍🏻
But he had to make a plate no?
Nice. Check the video description. I’ll try to remember to do this from here on out.
👍
I've had those exact same cup holders in my c10 for over three years. All kinds of drinks and phones with zero issues. I never re enforced anything. Just for your information.
Thanks for the feedback! Yea it’s been over a year and it’s holding firmly 🙂, no complaints
Same. I’ve had mine for over 10 years. Zero issues.
Where did you get it?
Where did you order the cup holders from? I drive my c10 daily and those are a must have!
😁 definitely come in handy. Check out the description, I left a link there. Not sponsored.
LMC has them.
Yup 👍. Link in the description for anyone that needs it
I'm gonna pass on the ashtray cup holder mod😅
Yall notice how all those aftermarket dashes kind of suck compared to the factory ones? They're not as flat in some areas, and in other areas the shape isn't quite right. I wonder if anyone will ever make a good one.
I hope so🤞
@@projectswithjj I've tried 3 of them. The coverlay cover thing is terrible, you can forget about it looking close to oem. The giant heavy urethane blob one is also a failure, it sags under it's own weight and looks like it's melting. Looks like it's been in the sun way too long. Right now I'm using one that is vinyl and foam like the factory dash was, but even it doesn't quite measure up.
Everything aftermarket is not as good as factory.
Where did you find the one piece seat cover?
It came with the truck but you can find them in many place like CJpony, LMC, USA1 interiors, Holley/Brothers, etc…even Amazon
My father passed a couple of years ago and left me his truck. I don’t know nothing about trucks and I don’t know where to start, any help? To my knowledge the Truck doesn’t need major work
Do you have an update on this ?? Did it last?
Daily driving the C10 since and no issues with the doors. Got a lot of suggestions on different things to use instead of what I showed. I will make a video fact checking all of them, some are interesting. Right now I’ve got my hands full with a separate project…videos will come back in 2024 😉
Hinges get worn; adjust them, with shims or washers, or fix them. Get a real d.i.y. upholstery seat cover
Also spray some WD40 on it
Square doors are meant to be slammed
That doesn't always fix the problem
True, it’s just one way for my case. Share yours 🙂
Too bad that virtually nothing fits in that cup holder. Every thing is bigger than those water bottles. Why didn't they make the holes bigger
Two sheetmetal tabs keep the ashtray from pivoting all the way down. I wouldn't trust it unless the drink has a lid...
Stay square
This vid shows the two tabs that hold the ashtray.

pvc hack cheaper faster
I wonder how long that would last over the Delrin that these come with 🤔
@@projectswithjj Also PVC is pretty brittle.
Get rid of music
Thanks for the feedback 👍
It is not only c10s not every squarebody is a c10, c10 is a model and every other squarebody uses a lot of the same parts because belive it or not c10s aren't anything special
Silicone does wonders
The pins and bushings in the door hinges are probably blown also
