      Superb comparison video, subbed to your channel! I've had lots of fun with iRacing years ago (both competing online and vs AI). Now I'm more into racing vs AI. I've been enjoying career mode in Project Cars 2, sandbox playground in Assetto Corsa with mods and some other titles. I'm buying PS5 soon (mostly for the upcoming GTA6). I'm wondering if I should buy GT7 for racing vs AI. I heard standing starts are only possible in custom races in GT7. And that AI in custom races is slow, rubberbanding and unrealistic. What is your perspective on AI in GT7? Should I wait for GT8 with Sophie AI built-in? By the way, I've enjoyed GT5 and GT6 on PS3 for the most part, my favourite thing being licence tests and hotlapping.

      @@OlegPredko I don't love racing the AI in GT7. They are either way too slow, or punt you off the track. Sophy is an exception, but I think all Sophy races are limited to 3 laps. Update 1.49 is incoming in the next couple of weeks, with improvements, expansion of Sophy, but details aren't known yet. Thank you much!!

    I went from racing ACC and racing on a triple 4k curved monitors with a pretty nice PC to GT7 and love the change. It's so much easier to manage and more accessible. And more fun in my opinion. I used to be one of those PC racing sim elitists like many people here in the comments until I seriously gave GT7 a chance. Plus it's gorgeous and has a lot of content between cars, tracks, and customization. Oh and you don't have to donate a kidney to play GT7.

      Exactly this! I don't know why so many iRacing had a hard time with this video. It was about what was a better fit for me. Right now. They reacted like I insulted their mother. Thanks for watching!

      Gran Turismo 7 is absolutely hands down fantastic in every way, with a Fanatec DD+ base the FFB is unrivaled. The elitist/egotistical fools speaking with Elzero experience really harm the community with their toxic cult nonsense. If Gran turismo 7 had a subscription pro mode with marshalling and higher payouts Iracing would be left in the dust. Using simhub and shakers and wind with Gran Turismo 7 just goes to the top of podium.

    Its not really iracing's fault that you tried to install windows on an apple product . Of course its going to be easier to play a Playstation only game on a Playstation than trying to root your Mac and install another software on it that its not supported by factory . It could have been any other game , ACC , AC , Dirt , WRC and you would have had the same problems

    • @DigitalRelay

      Someone claimed my setup didn't meet iRacing requirements, then deleted his comment. My response follows... Right now, iRacing shows a high end processor recommendation of 8 cores. The Mac I used is 12 cores. They list high end memory recommendation at 32 GB. The Mac I used is 64 GB. The Mac I used also meets their Recommended GPU requirements at 6GB dedicated. Running Windows on an Intel Mac is no different than running on a PC if you are using boot camp, which I am.

    • @thepaisleyproject
      @thepaisleyproject 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      So while yes, iracing uses multithreading, single core performance matters a LOT more here. Arguably more than your gpu. For reference btw there's 12 core CPU that have been around since like 2012, and those are gonna struggle to keep up at all. I know that your pc is at least from before 2021, because apple doesnt use intel at all anymore. The closest thing I'm seeing is a Mac Pro from 2012, which at this point in iracing's life cycle is just not enough to run the game on anything higher than lowest settings, especially since that was on a Xeon CPU with AMD crossfire gpus, it will not run well. I'm sorry but it really just isnt enough for 2024 iracing.
      I'd be interested to know what model of mac you have specifically, so I can provide recommendations about the settings. theres a lot that you shouldn't touch in there tbh.
      Something simple like an R5 5600x, 16gb of DDR4 ram (3600mhz), and an RTX 4060 would be enough to run iracing well enough, and you could honestly have an ok setup for about 1k, including the peripherals.

    • @DigitalRelay
      @DigitalRelay  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Thank you for this comment and being respectful with your pushback. I was using a fully upgraded 2012 Mac Pro. I expected it wouldn't run iRacing at max settings, but it did meet or exceed every spec iRacing listed on its site at the time. I appreciate and agree that a more up to date gaming PC would perform better. That all said, the video was an experiment with what I had access to on hand. I wasn't willing to spend hundreds of dollars or more to check out iRacing. I was willing to spend under $100 for a 3 months iRacing subscription, Windows activation, assorted cables and accessories. The point of the video was to share my specific experience and situation. I respect that perspective doesn't appeal to everyone. I may go back to iRacing at some point, and if I do, I'd put together a gaming PC. Like I said, I wasn't willing to dedicate those resources to trying iRacing. I appreciate your respectful input.

    I’ve been playing Grand Turismo since GT1. It’s been a lot of fun through the years, but GT7 is a simcade and lacks the realism of iRacing. iRacing and PC sim racing gear is insanely expensive, and I get why people like to go the console route.

    Started iracing a year ago, on a pc with vr, used to run short oval short tracks in the 70s and 80s, so I needed the immersion even though I'm old and slow. Not very computer literate but managed to get semi proficient within the system, loading times are under a minute, all about getting used to it. Like the ai aspect, and that a season is 12 or 13 weeks and each race has a full week dedicated to it at different times of the day and night along with practice. You are correct in that there is a toxic culture in some of the races, lesser than more thank goodness. When folks talk about the cost, that's up to the individual, I ran all the free content for 3 to 5 months except for a couple tracks we raced back in the day and had a blast. What folks need to realize, is the cost of iracing is what you control after sign up the cost of racing in street stocks in real life, used car 1500 to 3000, complete or not, spec tires 200 to 300, sometimes you can run most of the year, usually not, fuel, upkeep, pit crew fees travel times even if it's close. Point is iracing doesn't have to be expensive, compare it to pack of smokes your frapochino lattay mocha frothy triple shot of wtf ever that stuff is a month and you might be surprised, just saying. I truly enjoyed the honest comparison and truly appreciate the choices that are out there for everyone. Thank you for that.

      Thanks for your perspective on this. You make some great points, especially on iRacing vs real life racing. I raced go karts in real life for a brief period and I appreciate you bringing up those real life costs. For me, it was also the real life time and energy that was just too much for me. That's the point I was trying to make in the video, that for me, in my situation, at this time, GT7 is a better fit for me than iRacing. I could see totally getting into iRacing if/when my life circumstances change though. Thanks again, sir!

    I think you did a fantastic job. I also love GT7, started playing it 2 years ago and trust me when i say that once i found out that you could race on a wheel and pedals, it did not take me long to dive in had first and hard. I honestly have dumped thousands of dollars into playing this game. I'm on a Sim Racing Team, (TenTenths SimRacing) i race in multiple leagues and the founder of our team is into commentating (GT45 Gaming) so i get to see that side of things as well. I also had just recently started racing in iRacing, ACC, Forza Motorsports, rFactor2, RaceRoom. I started out with a $200 pre-built PC that i had bought from someone on marketplace but recently upgraded to a more expensive and powerful PC so that i could experiment with more racing games online and do my toes in the streaming world. You literally have your ups and downs with either system/ console. Constant issues with PD in GT7, taking a little longer to get up and going for PC racing but, i love sim racing so i deal with all the issues that come with either one and I'm 44 years old so..

      @steveybiggunzgaming8118 you're not wrong. It's just my opinion.
      I see the money argument all the time in comparison videos. It's a weird one to me, but again, that's just me.
      Just some things i compare...Gt 7 costs $70. A year of iracing is less than $70. Most gamers aren't going to play a game for a year before moving on to something else. But if we're talking serious racing gamers, then each is probably worth their price. Both are great games/Sims.
      I didn't see it mentioned in your video and you bring up a good point about gt7 letting you earn cars, but iracing let's you earn money every season(12 weeks) for competing in certain series that you can use to buy more cars and tracks. (If u mentioned this and I missed it, apologies) I think it's up to something like $20 per season, and you can use that to renew your subscription and/or new cars and tracks. It's pretty much free if you race your quota every season. 4-8 races depending on the series needed.
      Honestly, I want to thank you for the video. It takes a lot of work and effort to put videos together, and it takes more balls than I have to put my opinions out there in video format. I appreciate you, brother. Apologies for being douchey in my first comment.

    Don’t listen to this guy about getting a pc set up. If you aren’t doing some Frankenstein concoction with hardware from 2007 it is literally as easy as buying a pre built and plugging it in. You’ll also never get the graphics this game offers (all be it they aren’t anything to brag about) if you’re using the recommended hardware that hasn’t been updated since the game was made in 2015.
    Also. This guy raced two of the easiest/basic cars in iRacing. While those cars are fun. You won’t get the true iRacing experience until you get to at least GT3’s or Formula cars. The Hybrid LMP’s are absolutely BONKERS if you have a decent set up.
    I’m all for opinions, but you can’t do weird things with a pc and say “it was hard”. And barely experience 1/16 of the content of a video game and give an opinion on it. It would be like playing the first 20 minutes of an RPG and then giving an opinion of the game.

      @@DigitalRelay no, we just want an honest video. You’re telling people pc is difficult. Because YOU had a bad experience with some weird Frankenstein things you did. That isn’t true for 99 percent of pc users.
      You basically read two pages into a book and then gave your opinion on it. That isn’t fair to anyone that might want to try iRacing and then watches your video.
      You should make a new video where you buy a windows pc and plug it in. And also where you experience at least half of what iRacing has to offer. Also, maybe one where you have capable hardware so you don’t have to tell everyone how bad your frame rates were despite the fact you’re using a glorified typewriter to play it.

Why some of you are so offended and defensive about iRacing and PCs is completely beyond me.
      And how is it some weird Frankenstein project when it meets and exceeds every iRacing spec listed? Because the box says Apple? Are you aware they specifically say on their website using an Intel Mac is fine if it meets specs and you are running Windows with bootcamp?
      Maybe you should make that video and gain the perspective of what it takes to make this kind of content.

    @thepaisleyproject 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    So I'll share my perspective on iracing, as I've been racing on the service since 2017, but have also played GT Sport, and a few of the older GT games.
    Ive been through a lot of the major overhauls for the service, and my opinion has changed as these changes have been made.
    Personally, there really isnt a better sim out there. It has it's flaws but in terms of its physics, ability for team events, and levels of customization (and tbh, compatibility of peripherals, theres been literally nothing I couldn't bind something to) and I think the fact that its the place where the most real life pro drivers spend their time, and are actually still insanely fast is on this service.
    Iracing's biggest problem is its graphics, and to be perfectly honest, they're dated. They are actively working on improving them though, and in all honesty, the rain looks spectacular.
    In regards to their price, yes its high, but thats also a bit of a good thing here. Iracing as a service is meant to be treated higher than just a game, in that its a substitute entry point for real racing. Its becoming more and more common for people to find their start on iracing, then go on and race real cars at a very high level. It also incentivizes better standards of racing, as theres more to lose if you intentionally be an idiot.
    I will however say, track price is inconsistent. Though I assume this is due to licensing. Though if you plan well, $100 can go a VERY long way. And if a car is taken out of usage, and you recently bought it, you will get a refund, and keep the old car to use for other things (some hosted events will use older cars, or in the case of the HPD, new series)
    iRacing teaches braking technique better than any other racing game out there, its genuinely the best part of its physics model, I will die on this hill, no one comes close. Same with rain driving, nobody is within a lightyear of their rain model.
    As for the other drivers. youll meet some of the best and the worst people youll meet here, but the thing is, on iR, you can report them, and if they have a history, they can get perma banned. If you don't want to hear the people, just turn off chat.
    Personally I don't have an issue with the menus on iracing (though I've been using the UI since it first went into beta so maybe im just used to it?) Getting into races is very quick, and you can just type in the type of car, it will show all available series with that car, and then you click on the race session or a practice session. Test drive is easier, just click car, click track, click conditions, click drive. I will however say, iracing's ai is... not great. I've had some really good races, but setting it up is a hassle if you don't know what exactly to change to make it work.
    I really did like GT sport, which it looks like 7 is more of the same, but the lack of compatibility is a real problem for GT which makes it very hard for me to treat it anything other than casually.
    I would recommend that with iracing, especially early on, stick to one of the lower class series, learn just that car and it will improve the experience, as youre stepping into something you know well, even if you don't know the track. Fixed series are also your friend. as buying/making setups takes time and or money.
    something like the GT4 fixed series would be perfect. Or if you want to spend not very much at all, the GR86 or even MX5 are still very fun. Theyre low barrier to entry, easy to drive, and quick to learn the tracks for.
    For me tbh GT and iRacing are far enough apart that they really have a hard time being compared in a lot of circumstances, but i definitely agree iR is meant for a hardcore audience, and its by design. and GT i can play with a controller, lol.

    I used to drive a lot of gran turismo games but once I tried iracing and learned a few things I've never looked back. GT7 now feels like a kids game in comparison. The UI is quite easy to figure out once you get the hang of it and the physics is not even comparable. Iracing is much more clean especially when you move up a few licenses. Bad driving is heavily penalized in iracing compared to gt, where it just goes "bump" and you continue like nothing ever happened. Because sony is horrible you have very limited choice in gear and setup - since starting iracing I've gotten triple monitors, an awesome direct drive wheel and great pedals with haptic feedback. Setup is fairly easy if you have a single monitor though. Also, races can have more than 50 cars at one time - crazy to think you did a great qualifying and then you're starting 21st of 55 cars! Graphics is a bit worse than gt7, but physics more than makes of for this - and if you have a good pc and crank the settings there is not much of a difference except too much shiny cars in gt7.
    The only downsides is switching platform so a lot of the people I used to race with I haven't raced in some time. Finding new racing buddies in iracing a fairly easy though if you have facebook or discord. The other downside is of course the pricing, but having spent around $6K on my rig, the cost of iracing is mere pennies in comparison. If you already have a pc and sim racing equipment I highly encourage you to give it a go - if not then don't try it as you'll never know what you're missing out on and can have lots of fun on consoles.

    Having done both, I would say iRacing is clearly superior BUT as an adult with limited time and just wanting to race AI for some kind of progression in single player and doing online races when I have the time, I feel like Gran Turismo will suit the majority of people better. I spent hundreds on iRacing, while I don't regret it, I also do not have the will to renew my subscription because I just don't have the time to commit to it.
    For me, Gran Turismo works better and I have enjoyed it quite a lot. I would recommend buying a used PS5 and getting a copy of GT7 over getting into iRacing because it will get expensive very fast.
