- A lot of you guys who follow me since 2010 asked me where this video just passed!
It was just my absolute best video in term of views, it cumulated 6M views in 2019 :-000
For one reason that i do not know, it was just retired from youtube, so here it is again!!
The intro is also very nice because we see the peoples at the entry barrier and also all around the track and now due to the situation, we cannot see this anymore :-(
HERE IS THE STORY of this lap
In 2015 i had this incredible Ariel Atom 3 300hp, with the aero kit (front and rear) and decided to seriously going at the ring with it for training, because i already felt in love on this track and this particular car with absolutely 0 assistance so an incredible challenging car who accelerated from 0 to 100 in 3sec, which is quiet good in 2015...the only problem of this car were about the fuel tank who only allowed 2.5 laps before empty :-)
Also not the best in term of security if big crash there :-(
As you can see in the vid i start the lap in TF classic entry, and found by pure hasard on front of me this incredible Corvette z06 who let me passed at T13 but chased me closely till Adenauer forst then i let him pass again and he leaved at Adenau exit because empty fuel
Ok this was not so fast lap, but this video were very popular because it was soooo immersive due to the camera mounted on the roll bar!
The thing i touch with my left hand is the turn indicator :-)

You and the Corvette driver are a perfect example of how to drive "the ring"... Nice to see such skills and awareness at all times.

So nice to watch a true gentleman racer. Knows the track, knows the etiquette and definitely knows his car!

I can say no less about the Corvette driver. Truly a pleasure to watch. Truth be told, I am in love with the Atom, what a refined beast of a machine!

Impressive how at 6:04 you held off and let the motor cyclist take his line. Having myself gone precariously in the leaves on the edge of a road on a corner on a bike as a car overtook me I appreciate that thinking of the motor bike handling from a 4 wheel standpoint. Nice to see this sort of driving and a very exciting video overall.
Its not allowed to overtake on the right during the Touristenfahrten. I think this is the main reason in that situation. But of course you can feel the driver take care of the others, good job.
That is respect and situational awareness. Going on the inside could have killed that guy on the motorcycle.
One wrong move is all it would take. It's about having some fun, not endangering others.

I loved that part. I chuckled that he was warming up his tyres in the pit exit, but then BOOM!! It's on!!!
Give me the keys and you would see a high performance car in the hands of someone who does not know how to use it……….far more entertaining. 🔥😁

I've got an in-car video of a racing driver doing the 'ring in a Mosler MT900R. As the barrier lifts his passenger says something like "We're off".
Driver, just before he floors it, "Yes. And may The Lord have mercy on your soul."
Love the way the Vette driver gave rh indicator to let the Atom by in the curves! Brilliant drivers and video!👍🇦🇺😎🏁

Fabulous i would love to do a few laps of this track, pity Sabrine Schmitz was not still around, she had so MUCH too offer, beauty talent amazing driver she was much too young to go i hope she is remembered there with pictures etc so she is Never forgotten! 👍👍
This was a gift to see. A gentlemen's day where all drivers give space. A lot of days, it's crowded with cowboys keeping left, swinging into all directions and so on.
Cowboys? Do they ride horses and carry six shooters?
All drivers give space? I think you were watching some other video. Too many idiots out there this day. I think they should have Tuesdays and Thursdays for econobox pieces of crap, Wednesdays for motorcycles, and every other day for serious cars.

And nice to see two drivers of two serious machines of different fundamental philosophy (machines, not drivers) giving each other respect. Ideal would have been they'd come off, swapped cars, driven hard again, and then gone for a few steins afterwards. I'm sure they would each have enjoyed the experience of driving a very different vehicle to their own.

@@XtianApi he did get stuck behind that mini Cooper for a shortwhile that would have been enough to catch up, I'd imagine they've done improvements over the years but still amazes me how good that atom is 14 years on
For ten minutes, I sat at my dining table and felt like I was behind the wheel. Exhilaration, sportsmanship and some Zen all rolled into one. Thank you.

Extremely aware of those around you, and playing it cautiously, but still managing a fantastic driving lap. Joy to watch.
Yes, it seemed a bit cautious, never really knowing what traffic might do. I suspect that would have been a much faster lap without traffic. But then again, that's what makes it thrilling.

Exactly! I thought the atom would have him much more quickly than that and the 'Vette gets moved up a good few ranks in my estimation as a result. That was impressive from so much bigger a car!
@@JerGol the vette was purposely built to go around that specific track so well, so I’m not surprised at all it does as well as the atom.
I think the Vette should have a considerably higher top speed, but might not be as quick around the slower turns, which are plentiful on this track.
Amazing ‘ring etiquette… This is one of my favorite laps to watch. That Zo6’s raw power can’t be denied, but neither can the lightweight acceleration of the Atom. Two way to the same goal 👏👏👏!
True that. Though I thought that the Ariel took better lines.
It's a Barracuda and a Mako shark fighting it out. The Z06 has the "Juice" but also the weight.
Solid lap and great back and forth with the Vet driver I think people loved this video so much because it has a personality. Good driving \ friendly competition with another driver \ awareness and respect of other drivers. One day when we are all driving electrics we will look back on these videos with teary eyes and say remember the good old days.
Have to say that was the best lap ive seen. I knew what to expect from the Atom in competent hands but have to admit the Vette was bloody impressive. Took off like a stabbed rat right from the start .

Bloody Hell! That was the most exciting 10 minutes of the week so far, and I was only sat in front of a monitor lol! The roadcraft and discipline shown by all was impressive.

This was immensely satisfying to watch. I don't think I've ever watched a full circuit of the Nurburgring before, especially not with so much other traffic, I really like how drivers put on their signals while driving at speed to let you know they've seen you approaching and that its safe to pass. How much I wish the typical American on the highway had even an iota of that amount of situational awareness.
HA HA HA Americans are never going to go through a 360 sign identification test. They will never get to drive over 80mph legally . We are just to rude to learn to drive with respect. Just look at Nascar. We needed a sport where you could hit each other.
Americans don't do corners either, just go round in circles.

Love seeing how the confidence grows during the lap everything just gets turned up progressively . Very good awareness of the traffic particuarly the blue swift , red bmw and the bikes
I am far from a petrol head and came across this video by chance. WOW ! That was FUN !! Massive respect to the Atom driver and, as many others have noted below, wish we could see even 10% of the other drivers' discipline on our roads. Top job, thank you :)
That little Atom is amazing. At times it felt like a motorcycle. Power to weight is so good. Handling awesome too.

This was one of the best racing videos I've ever seen. It felt like I was there. Intense.
At one point near the beginning he passes a 944 and I actually felt my body rise and fall as he went over the small rise and back down. Great vid.

Wow! This video took me back to the late 60s through .mid 70s, when I raced 427 Cobras and 427 Corvettes in SCCA A Production. The cars on the track look different, but the sensations came back in a big way. It was a pleasure to watch two excellent drivers at speed in terrific cars, and that Atom is phenomenal! Although I can still drive fast and to the limits, I also know I'm no longer at that level. Thanks for bringing back some exciting memories.
I kept picturing Jeremy Clarkson's face with the wind blasting him while driving!

The Ariel Atom is an absolute laureate thesis on purity of function. Note how it outturns the superbikes while at the same time outpacing more powerful cars at high drag speeds without all the fancy aero bodywork. Automotive masterpiece.
I love how they put a 120mph speedometer in it to comply with regulations. :) You can see where it is maxxed out for a good portion of the map. The new ones are digital, of course.

I had the chance to go to Germany about a decade ago and it was one of the most beautiful counties on earth! The cities don’t have a drop of litter, the tiny valley towns , the green , jsut so beautiful amd the drivers on the Ring are SO respectful! They’re always checking mirrors and move to the slower “line” if someone enclosing, same thing on the autobahn. I’d live there in a second. Love this video having her a blacked out ‘06 LPE 606 z06 Corvette, quickest and fastest car I’ve ever owned or been in but as we see man those Atoms are INSANE! Would love one!

Architect, you should have joined the Army and gotten stationed there. I was there for 3 yrs flying fighters...if you thought it was beautiful on the ground you should see it from the air. Try Switzerland next time especially the Lauterbrunnen Valley. The most beautiful place in the world. Look it up.

The Ariel Atom was the most fun I had in a car at Driving Experience day here in the UK. Alone on a track as the sun was setting with the whine of a Hewland (?) gearbox behind me - spectacular!

Aerial Atom , what a beast.
Watching this was absolutely a visceral experience. The video captured much of the feeling of actually being in the car. The road manners of all the drivers was very nice to see. The view of the cycle fenders over the wheels added to the enjoyment, not to mention the sound. And I didn't even have to pay! Thanks for the ride!!!
The wow moment for me was the surprise entry of the merc amg right at the end. 9:44. There were more than 2 very fast drivers! Thanks for posting
I had a "7" for many years and did a few track days. I though I was fast but nowhere near this Atom. I would have loved to have taken my Caterham to Nurburgring but as seventy approaches I guess it better stay a dream. Great video, thanks.
Wow, a Caterham 7! Is that the correct model name? Anyway, that’s a great car, and must be so much fun to drive. Seeing you write that (I’m over seventy myself, and my reflexes aren’t what they use to be) reminds me of Paul Newman, and his RACING at seventy and over. He was both fast and safe, which amazes me. I can only salute him, and wish I still had the speed I used to have (I raced motorbikes for years with some success, but hung my leathers at age thirty-four).

Wow, I cannot get over how good the Vette driver was, not just keeping up with the Atom, but actually offering worthy competition. I'd be interested in finding out who was behind the wheel? I clicked on this without even looking at the channel name or who was driving the Atom and was absolutely enthralled the entire distance. It was a welcome surprise to discover at the end that it was Sebastian Vittel at the wheel. Great stuff - this is what car racing is all about and separates the enthusiasts from the posers.

@@TheForkbeard Not a fake page, just misleading. Vittel should make it clearer that he races GT2 Porches and not F1 like Vettel. Vittel does have quite extensive experience around the Nürburgring though,

I can't tell you how much I enjoyed this, it is, as you say, immersive. I can't imagine what it must be like for old Porsche drivers to be passed at half their speed again. And your closure times are minimal, you really must trust the other drivers.

Great to see 2 fast drivers having respect for eathother, what an amazing experience.
Vette had the A/C on and listened to hi def tunes while talking to his girlfriend…. Same totally hot girl he picked up on the way home to the lux suite. Ariel Atom went home freezing cold to his basement apartment and listened to Rush by himself and sat on spare parts and a worn mag wheel. Don’t get me wrong, love, love rush… love atom, but ever see the front 20 rows at a Rush concert? Same folks who want to sit in the passenger seat of an atom.

If you want to watch something really exciting, watch Stefan Roser drive the Yellowbird Porsche at Nurburgring in 1985 (?) at 215 mph, about 350kph. It's crazy!

As an owner of the 2017 C7 I can honestly say that Chev really stepped up with the Corvette and the new shape C8 is gorgeous. I’ve also owned the flying C6 (literally lifts up the front end on a windy day). This video was great many thanks. Lost of corners here which my C6 would have just said no to lol. So I can see why the Z didn’t want to try and compete with that enormous go kart.
The C8 looks like a Korean Ferrari.

Refreshing to see how both drivers were respectful of others on the road (and each other). Both drivers were very impressive. The turn-in on the Corvette was amazing.

Excellent!! Great driving!! The Atom is great but the Vette was no slouch!! Nice to see that AND great sportsmanship!! That white car with the airfoil, toward the end of the race, looked like he was going to lose it for a split second. Saw some wheel hop cuz the driver thought his car was more capable than it actually was. He's a lucky guy not to have wiped out. Again, really great!!👍
Yup, that Suburu was about the only driver on the track that day that was thinking more about themselves and less aware about what was going on around them. Seb still played nice, class act!
I always love returning to this video here and there. The knowledge that vette is just right up ya the entire time and the stunning moment (that I notice is now the 'Most Replayed' moment) is that little (guessing Evo?) realizing he got stuck in the pocket and just absolutely smashes the throttle to get out of your way.
The Evo driver gave it a red hot go, but that Atom just teleports effortlessly from corner to corner. Unreal!

What a masterpiece. I remember C&D characterizing the Atom as being able to “pass a Z06 on the track like it’s a minivan.”. I adore the way you can see your tire’s relation to the apex by just looking down. Incredible.
You must have not watched the video. The corvette simply played with the atom as the said minivan, letting it pass and then passing him again. Perhaps he was trying to see if it will crumble under pressure and drive into a wall, like Senna did with Schumacher on his tail.
@@tudormontescu6275 I not only watched the video, I know a few things about cars, such as the fact that, on a track with curves, the Z06 is hopelessly outclassed by the Atom. Might as well be.. well, a minivan.
On long straights you better watch out though.
