- i hope you've all head a great Christmas/holidays!
We decided to do a quick round up video whilst filming the latest PrincesS update to take a look at some of the things we've achieve this year. Progress is progress, though slower than preferred, so as discussed in this video, i've decided to open up to some outside help from the views to try & make that happen.
Jonny's Allegro updates will still be uploaded here as normal, hopefully a little more regularly next year. But as mentioned, PrincesS updates may slow down(ha), while I try to smash the Mini restoration out. So Princess Updates will be on Patreon 24 hours earlier, and Mini content will be uploaded to Patreon exclusively. The first full episode will go up in January!

The Princess is unique - it’s going to be very cool when you’ve got it going - stick at it. The mini - that’s a special car as it’s your oldest; but it’s in one piece - keep it that way until you can give it more time. Don’t have too many projects on the go at once.
I came for the Allagro ! However, I’ll still be here after it’s done. Seriously envious of your welding.
Do whatever you want to do and how ever you want to do it. Personally, I understand that these things take time. So many people end up being a slave to creating content for TH-cam it seems. I’m more than happy to subscribe and watch updates as and when they are available. Take care and keep enjoying your work 👍🏻

@@FabCoUK that’s good that you feel that way and I hope that it stays that way too. Some TH-camrs (or people that start off occasionally posting…) seem to put so much pressure on themselves sometimes. The work you do takes time and focus and I know that adding the filming and editing adds time and complexity too.
You do great work and it’s a real pleasure to pick up on your progress as and when you are ready to share. 👍🏻
The nice thing with a classic Mini is that everything, literally every little part, is readily available, you don't really get that on many classic cars. Good luck with the Mini, had a couple of the little things, they are amazing.
Patreon is always going to be a tricky thing to get right. I think you're on the right road, but I fear putting all of the mini content exclusively on Patreon will alienate people. Perhaps keep the concept, with regular more in-depth updates on Patreon, but also put out the occasional overview video on TH-cam?

I just appreciate that you take the time and effort to produce these videos, which must gobble up a lot of time and effort alongside your core business. I really enjoy seeing the progress on the Princess every bit as much as the Allegro, and generally find your content interesting. So thanks very much for doing the channel and keep up the good work
I watch far too many car related channels to do Patreon but wish you well whichever way you decide to go. Have a good year in 2024.

Mini should be given priority over the Princess. I’ve not nothing against the Princess (I enjoy the vids!), but the Mini ‘should’ be quicker to complete, and the engine’s RIGHT THERE! I’m a long-time Mini owner too, so I may be a bit biased! Once that’s done, get some enjoyment from it, and then you can return focus to the Princess. Happy to become a Patron for the Mini vids, and hopefully this will help support and help you balance the Princess and Allegro projects we all enjoy. ☺️
Well I love all your stuff, even the exhaust system bits for D/works etc, but as a dealer mechanic from the late sixties, with personal engine swap knowledge on what are now classic cars, it's the Princess which draws me in the most, my brother had a 'Radbourne' mini cooper once, so yeah, I'm here to stay. Thank-you for posting your content, happy new year fella.

I came to this channel for the Allegro and when I discovered you were also working on a Princess that was a real bonus. In fact I am more interested in progress on the Princess than the Allegro. Concerning the Mini, there is a lot of content on TH-cam about Mini’s, the Princess and the Allegro make you stand out from the others. I also like that you react personally in the comments sections. By the way, your regular work is also very interesting to watch and will attract more views.

Great to see the Mini and hear your story. I TOO have a 1983 Mini, also my first car that has ALSO been off the road for the last ten years. Bought as a very early 18th birthday present back in 1995 for the princely sum of £500, it’s on its 5th engine (built by me this time - 1330 stage 3) it’s been on the back burner for too long. Your Mini project may give me the boost I need to get it back where it belongs, on the road and in regular use. Can’t wait to see its progress.

Great stuff Adam.. Never had you down as a 'Mini' man.. Had my first Mini in 1966 and in 1967 bought a Cooper 'S' with a mate and we rallied it after spending enough on it to buy a house using BMC Works Department parts. I've restored four Mk 1's and 2's and got rid of my last one 14 years ago. Your build looks very interesting ..

I like the Oselli torque master copy. Good manifolds. Talking of manifolds, that's an excellent job on the LCB/turbo pipes.
What crank is in there ? Have you got a centre main strap ? Ought to have one if it's going to produce 170-180 hp. Ought to have a cage too.
Maybe some Mini teasers on the main channel. Mind you, I selfishly would like to see all the Mini stuff here :)

A man with many projects! Always a hard one as each one gets a little bit rather than 100% that’s why I ended up selling my r32, it was in the corner of the shop never getting used but so close to being finished.
When I started building the Austin race car I’m doing now I said no more other stuff 100% in on it. I’m 15 months of evening / weekend work in and have broken the back of it now. I ended up helping a mate with a set of headers and doing 1 Harley exhaust, 14 weekends at the race track aswell. Don’t think I’ve done too bad.
Long story short, give one car 100% be it the allegro, mini or princess, that’ll be done in no time!
Keep the vids coming that you can, appreciate the time it takes, I’ve not filmed any of the Austin race car. Just needed to crack on. Fair play for doing it all, and running a business! Happy New Year

I really wouldn't put the whole mini series exclusively on Patreon. It will frustrate people who can't or don't want to pay. Usually creators put extra videos on Patreon not a whole series. For example the Porsche exhaust video would have been a good exclusive. You don't want to create a negative vibe around the Patreon option. Thanks for the great videos. 👍

I had one in the 80s, nice drive and nothing went wrong 🤷♂️. I’d have one now if they weren’t so expensive.
I’m just glad there are clever people like yourself that are willing to show what is possible and the thought process behind it, I used to customise cars back in the eighties but what you are doing is way above and beyond what I could achieve with a garden shed and a parents driveway, I appreciate the investment in time, materials and equipment required to turn out these jobs and I’d be willing to watch any of the three main projects via a patreon if it makes your life easier / more manageable, the choice is yours bud, I’m happy with whatever you decide, you seem to be a thoughtful chap so I’ll go with the flow 👍

What may be a good Patreon-only vid would be a monthly “workshop walk around” video - with minimal editing to keep production easier - where members can see part-finished ‘work in progress’ as a sneak preview of what’s coming in the future 🙂

i did 18yrs at austinrover dealership, the mini/metro turbo gearbox was not happy long term at anything over 90bhp, + that was with the uprated bearings. hopefully things have moved on, but as we say up here, gan canny with that turbo bonny lad...
Great idea with the mini! Get yourself on the Classic Mini Turbo Supercharger group, wealth of knowledge there! As an FYI, you'll max out those injectors at 140bhp. I had to go to 630cc DEKA injectors to get 180bhp.

Like most I came here after hearing about the Austin Allegro, Unfortunately I can't justify patreon but fully understand why you'd go down that route, but I will continue to watch your TH-cam channel, and like and share any future videos as I know just that alone will also help your channel to grow and increase revenue 👍

Patreon idea seems sensible. I’m also not that into Mini’s, so works for me as I’m tight 🤪 I’ll continue to support you by purchasing exhaust components as I’ve decided my G40 might need addition of a turbo (twincharged) setup… so I’ll be back for more fittings as the service and quality is top 👍

Yes @@adee-H1066 I have an original 1991 and a 1991 engine in a 1993 L reg chassis, which is the money pit I’m considering twin charging (because I love the project 😄).
The handling is predictably underwhelming. Great in low speed stuff and fun with up to factory power. Gets a bit scary above that.
No brainer - get the mini on the road, it will be a blast! The princess can be a slow burner.....the new Binky 😂
Love your episodes!! Plenty of Mini builds, with engine swaps, wheel kits, etc... like Binky that has disappeared... The *PRINCESS* is more unique!
My vote would be take a bit of time to get the Mini running. It's less "design on the fly" and thus will go together quite a lot faster.
Finish the Allegro and the Princess, there's loads of minis out there...

I think keep both cars on the channel but if the mini is going to be a quick project then yes do it first.
(1) Do what you feel motivated to do. Motivation always makes for better work and more entertaining videos.
(2) I would consider putting everything on Patreon and open it up a week later for free (with ads) on YT. That way you can monetize your work both ways.
Looking forward to all these projects, particularly the Princess and Allegro…. Mini’s have lots of vid’s and are over represented on TH-cam. I’m sure the allegro is going to need lots of stiffening….. I had a back window fall out whilst fixing a flat….
Hmmm. My view is, I see Mini’s on the road every what, couple of weeks but can’t remember the last time I saw a Princess. So, for me, it’s go hard on the Princess.

If you go Mini-Patreon route, be prepared for the same amount of pushback happening with BOM and project Binky. Have a read of Pistonheads for a feel of how well thats going.
If you decide to get stuck into the Mini in 2024, then please consider doing it on TH-cam? I can’t afford Patrion for the various TH-camrs that I watch. In fact the whole pay to view subscription market (Netflix, Prime, etc.) is getting increasingly expensive and decisive! The best use of Patrion that I’m aware of is additional or early viewing of videos that then become available later on TH-cam.
If I were you, I’d get the Mini done quickly to then enjoy it on the road, then the Prelude, for the same reason, whilst finishing the Allegro R for Jonny and doing bits on the Princess over a longer time scale! But it’s up to you fella. All the best.
I subscribe to two Patreon channels which I'm particularly interested in, at their entry level tiers. One is £1 and the other £3 per month. For this I get exclusive content, longer in-depth videos, a weekly update, early access and other occasional activity. Realistically that is minimum I would expect as a Patron. Your videos are fantastic, but If you decide to go ahead I think you would need to be putting out a lot more content. It's a lot of work, but if you're able to do that I would definitely consider subscribing.

Yes, start the mini and get it on the road, what is your husky’s name, he or she is well behaved, I have 5 rescue husky’s and sometimes its a riot, enjoy your channel and your attention to detail and skilled fabrication

I'm a big Mini & A series fan. I still have my 1st mini too some 40 yes later. I had an MG Metro Turbo back in the late 80's when it was fairly new. Completely std car. The gearbox struggled with the torque and needed a complete rebuild after about 3 years old. Have Specialist Components found a way of dealing with this? If I remember correctly BL actually reduced the boost in lower gears or low revs in 1st or 2nd to help.
The Works BSCC/ETCC cars ran like 220 /230bhp and we're very quick but also very fragile needing engine & gearbox rebuilds every few hours. 3 bearing mains don't help. 130 to 150hp would probably aid both engine and gearbox longevity a bit more than 170bhp. Best of luck with the project anyway, it sounds like fun.
Likely straight cut box otherwise (as you say) you wouldn't even consider the turbo torque.

Fantastic - have signed up for the Patreon because I would rather you got funds directly rather than whatever whim youtube applies this week for you to get income. For me, Mini and Preluuuuude on the Patreon ( maybe with a general TH-cam release once each series is completed) while keeping the Princess and AllegRo on TH-cam. I support a couple of other Patreon/TH-camrs who follow this type of model and it seems to work for them because it shows the Patreon supporters a bit of loyalty for their funding support but then lets those who cannot afford it the access to the great content at a later date (a bit like how you used to pay to go to the cinema for a new release but would then see it a while later on TV for free)
Allegro is a priority along with the princess the mini is a back up
I really want to see allegro and princess start taking shape mini is cool but nothing really that interesting imo anyway bloody awesome manifold though m8 would be so cool to finally see allegro and princess get further progress as they are so unique also be good for you to finish them and admire your ARTFULL creations 😊
For me, the thing with a paid subscription is that I need to know what I'm getting in return. I'm making a commitment to regular payments, so there needs to be a reciprocal commitment to regular content (e.g. at least a 15 minute mini video every month, for example). Too many creators have paid subscriptions where nothing (of exclusive value) happens for months.
Prioritise the Allegro, the Princess can go slow, and yes the Mini on Patreon
Just my honest opinion so people don't shout at me because i would love to be financially able to contribute to any patreon channel i really enjoy, but cost of living an all that I'm not able, soo yes make the mini patreon for those who can afford & would like to see the mini build, but for me i think there are loads of mini projects on TH-cam but not a lot of Princess or Allegro's if any,,i can go an watch a dozen or so mini vids, but i like the odd ball stuff as well! So yes i think your doing the right thing this way!
Also you could do the odd simple update on the mini maybe twice a year and when things go slack on the other projects you could use the mini footage for rainy day stuff, some times a channel can have too much going on as well, at the end of the day you won't keep everyone happy so do what you need to do not what you feel you should do!
Do forget youtube is something you want to do, people forget youtube is a hobby only an any money made out of it is a brucey bonus only not a business plan!

MINI MINI MINI!!!!! Yes please lets have some of that! Shove that Princess into a dark corner! As for Patreon I'm in a bit of an "on the fence" with it. I pay into one Patreon and that's the Bad Obsession project Binky. I've watched it from the beginning and I felt because they regularly produced a regular video with some amazing engineering and fab work, and the videos were always very well done, I was cheating them in a way by watching it for free so I pay a small amount every month. There's a slight problem now in that Binky is coming to the later stages so they're not putting out many videos as we all know it's the last 5% that takes 95% of the time. And they're busy with actual work I guess so haven't had time to do any of the other projects either. I'll stay loyal and still give them regular payments every month but there could come a stage, for some folk, that they feel that they're being short changed and get turned off and cancel. If you then start feeling like you're having to produce content and put stuff out on a regular basis then you could get a bit of pressure coming on especially if you get a rush of work and find your free time getting strained. Maybe not, maybe it could be the best thing ever. Extra income, possibly more work in a different tangent from your main current work. Might have to take on someone to help with work etc etc! Anyways, what you've got already is good, maybe not too much pressure to put stuff out on the Tube, just something put out every now and then. Idk, maybe I'm just lazy bit it seems like these TH-cam channels can potentially get out of hand. Try promoting those "Buy me a coffee" things maybe, might take in a bit of extra cash but won't put any extra pressure on you to put out content? Anyways thank you very much for what you already do, defo something I couldn't do!

It’s your channel what I’ve seen on other similar channels is they use Patreon to show some bits of the bill but they are so keep it on their TH-cam channel with shorter updates along with other things that they are doing on the channel I don’t think exclusively putting it on Patreon is the best idea just my opinion

Tbh you don't have enough subscribers to make patreon pay for a project if that is your plan. I'm thinking of another channel that has similar numbers and only covered a 6th of their build cost. But your channel, its up to you.
For what it's worth, 24 hour early access would be enough for me via patreon. I see it as a way of supporting you in your endeavours rather than demanding my pound of exclusive flesh, so to speak. I can see exclusive content as potentially alienating some people, but are those people worth worrying about and are you really bothered anyway? Just some thoughts that have come to mind.
My personal opinion is that if you do the mini on a patreon only basis, it feels like you are punishing those without any disposable income.
I haven’t decided either way yet, but I’ll still be putting videos out for free on here like I do anyway, so nobody is missing out specifically
I pay for youtube premium and kind of struggle at justifying patreon. However, I appreciate creators can't do this stuff for free. Just take care of yourself as i'm sure the added pressure of having to deliver to patrons can be quite the stress. Maybe setup the patreon and see how it goes before setting up a paywall channel ? @@FabCoUK .. It might be an idea to work it like Elin Yakov of 'Rusty Beauties' YT Channel. He has an option of making Pay Pal payments as well as patreon subs. I have limited disposable income but I check every month and any surplus I make PP donations to Elin and I would to you as well.

Keep what you’re doing on TH-cam but mini for Patreon as my personal interest is in the princess and allegro and taking that away from most would kill what you’ve started as cost of living impacts a lot of people. Just my personal thoughts

Happy new year mate. Hope all goes to plan. Patreon won't be a runner for me. I subscribed to patreon to another channel building a mini. Sadly they release fuck all content nowadays. Not for me I'm afraid. As other said I feel you'll alienate your audience. Maybe do the mini stuff and release it a week later or something. Either way you make revenue off it from both platforms. I make videos on my bike project and other stuff I'm interested in. It's a hard slog and sometimes I ask myself why I bother with the views being so low. But at the end of the day it's a video diary into my life more than anything else. Yes the few Bob from adsense is a very small help, but if you were to break it down into the time spent editing and actually doing the work it does not equate to a lot. Whichever you choose to do, I'll continue to enjoy your TH-cam content. All the best from a mad paddy in his shed building a motorbike from scratch.

There's loads of Mini content on TH-cam that is free so I doubt you will get many who will subscribe for just Mini content. By the way I don't subscribe to any Patreon stuff as there is loads of free content to watch anyway.
No no no. I hate channels that you pay to view. Many channels have done this and it spoils it. Your channel is laid back and genuine.
TBH I think you’re at a cross roads. Keep going as you are which is safe as I assume you have bills to pay mortgage, food and other life bills. The other is full time You Tube. This would be a massive gamble. I don’t think you will ever be a Matt Armstrong as his rise is unreal. I think Matt has peaked and sadly chasing making money over content so I can see him actually decreasing in popularity. Sorry back to you lol. You have to do that suits you. You are at a cross roads and only you and your circumstances can choose. I won’t pay to watch anyone( I already pay to loose the adverts) so will keep watching any “free” video,s you release. Shame I will miss the mini stuff.
The biggest fault with your channel is there is no end to your projects which I think puts people off. All your projects seems to years off completion. Look at Matt Armstrong. He gets a project finished in say 10-20 30 minute videos. Gets a million views, then releases them in one 2 hour block and still gets half a million views. Decide what YOU want, work/ life balance etc then go for it. I don’t feel you can have a foot in both camps and have your channel grow. Whatever you decide I wish you every success. I do want to see at least one build complete in 2024.
As I’ve said, nothing on TH-cam will really change. It’s only giving people the option of supporting & in exchange getting something a little more exclusive as a thank you

I personally don't do patreon . If I'm paying then I have the right to get shitty about content and how often videos are posted . I don't want to get like that . Just my opinion . I'd like to see the mini being built . But there's loads of other free content I can watch .
Be good to see the mini build, but I won’t be paying to see it. Grow the TH-cam channel and you’ll earn more through the advertising.
Sadly, that’s not the case! Adverts generate very little revenue 😕
