I've had to put it up for winter due to other life factors, but am looking forward to getting it back on the road come March. Already had to do several fixes to it, know I need to do several more. Sell the taxi if you got fair offers for it and let someone else enjoy it. Use the proceeds to fix the Element and get the Boxster some new bushings, brakes and wheels and then just drive it as is with flawed outside but properly sorted chassi and stock drivetrain.
This is the best car channel on youtube, and now that I know how many project videos are in the pipeline... I can not wait to see what you come up with! Thank you for hours of entertainment with such an honest and high production value.
Johnny, you mentioned your Element has a shimmy in the drive train. It looks to be an automatic. We own a 03 Element with an automatic that had a drive train shimmy. It drove me crazy trying to find it, I replace the rear diff fluid, all 4 struts, front driveshafts, and any bushings or balljoint that had even the slightest bit of movement. It turns out it was the automatic transmission. A complete fluid change fixed it. The transmission and torque converter holds 7 litres, but when you drain it only 3.5 come out, so you do that 3 times, and replace the filter, and voila, no more shimmy. Ours has 330 thou Km on it (Canadian model), we love it, it's the most useful car we've ever owned.
Just want to say that your videos are my favourite on TH-cam and I’ve been watching you since your Fifth Gear days. Despite your issues with your personal life (sorry to hear as a father myself) and lack of funds, I appreciate what you’re putting into this space and am excited for all these projects ahead! Johnny, the water under the seat is classic blocked drains under the fabric hood/roof. You have to put the hood into service mode, this will reveal a drainage area underneath and there are a couple of drains under there which get blocked with leaves etc. I blasted mine out with a pressure washer. Should sort that. Symptoms would be wet carpet behind the seats, under the door area.

Thank goodness for this episode Johnny. As a lunatic who once reached 47 cars in various barns, outside 'storage' and on the road, with the help of a therapist I'm now down to 16 😂. That's a great collection of cars, Jonny. Well done for saving the Smart. You're so lucky to have your first car. Mine was a Mini Pickup which I rescued from a scrapyard but at the time didn't have the skills or perseverance to return it to the road.

Definitely keep all the cars! Just do tlc and maintenance to all of them, we don't need big mods, just seeing cars coming back to life is enough! Cheers from Finland!!!
The absolute dream. I'm 20 now and starting my collection. I've got an 83 Beetle with something like '65 panels, a Golf 3 cabrio Rolling Stones and I want to slowly work that one up to a black 944! Maybe a W124 or 190 series in between them. Lovely video and a great collection. Charger might be my favorite, absolute dream car!
Jonny, 2cv an inspired choice. My folks pulled a 1958 ripple one from a French barn in 2005. New chassis, nut and bolt resto , painted sadly Ill health meant my dad never finished it…..just the final 3% to complete it now. Great to work on and such a simple and ingenious design.
Fascinating collection! You really should put matching tyres on the fronts of the bargain Boxster as otherwise in cold conditions, they'll have much more grip than the rears which will make it more lkely to swap ends. That Element definitely needs turning into an EV... Looking forward to seeing how the cars all move on over 2024!
Dodgey Honda diff - my dad had same issue on his CRV. Took it to Honda and a few gbox specialists. Always came back shortly after. Until, he found a claasic specialist who said it needs to be flushed 3 times over. Guy did it, and issue hasnt come back after thousands of miles 👍🏻. Thoroughly loved the video. We all love these cars as much as you, so get some vids up. Your subscribers will love them 😊
The Brabaus is cool car, well done. Great collection Johny. Keep the Impala as a V8 and convert the big Honda to electric - especially as that's the one, you do big miles in. :)
Love the Element but an EV conversion on it would be ace. Would love to do a diy EV conversion on my mint mk1 Multispace if it wasn't so expensive. Keep up the good work Jonny.
Yeah I have a VW T3 (I think they are called 2.5 outside Germany) and was looking into a EV conversion... and for the low price of a new VW ID Buzz you can to that.. and also there won't be much loading space after..
I remember watching your brother and yourself get the Beetle on the road. It was actually AFTER the introduction of the Allegro with the Allegro dance that HAS to be bought back.
The Tokyo taxi seems like the odd one out. Id suggest selling it and finishing some of the cooler projects like the impala. Also i hope the storage you are getting has space for you to work on your cars too, i really enjoy the detail you go into when doing work on the barn finds. Also you could save some money doing some work yourself, we can learn from you learning too
Love the smart roadster coupe. Excellent choice. I had a coupe a few years ago as a divorce present to myself. Absolutely loved it. I've had a few decent cars and it's the most fun car you can drive.
Sorry to hear the single dad comment Jonny. Hope you’re well ( I mean you clearly not, what an eclectic and mental fleet) 2024 will be a great one, much love from the whole community. I really really love the wrap on the smart, normally not a fan, but it suits it!
Hi Jonny, I’m an ex-Porsche technician, re the water ingress, first thing to check as it’s a common issue, remove the plastic cowl panels under the bonnet & you’ll see left and right the drain holes, these fill up & the water enters the car and plays havoc with the ECU’s under the seat, blow out with an air line, test and refit the cowl panel. Next is the top windscreen seal, usually ingress is from the corners. The seal dries out, try applying Vaseline to it and the seal on the front of the hood. The seals on 986’s are expensive. Then check by lifting the convertible flap halfway, the two drain holes either side as these fill up with rubbish, finally make sure the door panel waterproof seal hasn’t been damaged. Please for the love of God DO NOT EV the Impala, that would be criminal, the engine of any car is its soul!
2 days ago I was watching Tiff review the Smart Roadster for 5th gear and surfed Autotrader to see what's available - not that I wasn't but SUBSCRIBED!
Quite a mix of cars, and are project cars always the right car at the wrong time. My favourites are the element, charger and beetle. So let's see what 2024 brings to this collection, I'm in two minds to sell my Escort zx2 as seen at your Christmas meet 2 years ago in Somerset 😊
@@neiliosr8 Curious as to how that ZX2 ended up in the UK anyway? My sister had a 98 from new for about a decade here in the Toronto area, it was good to her.
@@fastEdCanuck well it's been here since almost new, it's a 2000 model imported in 2001, don't know why but the only explanation is someone in the forces, and it was a woman that owned it, I bought it in 2019. I'm the 3rd owner.
To use a favourite expression of yours Jonnie - don’t be a “flute” and spoil the Boxster by pimping or doing something silly. That is a nice honest 986. Don’t cock it up.
Thank you for sharing them all with us in one shot, Jonny! I've never owned more than 5 at once, and not all of them were interesting. I still have a project in limbo, and many cars have come and gone in the 15 years it has been off the road. Heck, it's been off the road longer than I've known my wife! 🤣 I'm at point with that like you are with your Beetle. I don't have all the parts, and I want to just be able to push through once I get back on it. Looking forward to what 2024 has to bring to the channel!
I had a Smart Brabus Roadster Coupe (loved it!), then had a Porsche 928S4 (briefly) until my Alpine A110 turned up earlier than expected, now on my 2nd one.
Jonny you have an eclectic collection! I have never had a Honda even an old one develop leaks that got the inside of the car wet. However I do live in a semi arid more like a desert area of the US. I am looking forward to see how you fix the various problems your cars have!
Don't EV swap the Impala. EV swaps in old cars should be reserved for vehicles where the engine is unreliable and soulless. Even though a Chevy 350 is ubiquitous, having a nice American V8 under the hood is still something special.
Its nice to see a youtuber whos doing okay have such a humble but seriously cool fleet of cars. Thays how you tell the actual car guys from the posers! Nice one Johnny!
I'm absolutely loving the "found at the bottom of a compost bin" 2CV-the patinated look is definitely the way to go. Anyone who sees it in the flesh is going to need a tetanus booster.
Nice one - knew it was a Roadie as soon as I saw the cover. I have a last-of-line "Finale Exclusive" (parts bin special) notchback with 140k on the clock. Been on several long Euro trips (Villa d'Este, lake Como, Austrian F1 GP, old race circuits tour of France etc) Sadly, I'm as disorganised as you and it's been on my ramp in my workshop for 5 years 😳 Great little cars.
Always had a big soft spot for the design of the smart roadster, cant wait for a full vid on that. Hope '24 brings you good health, wealth and happiness pal.
A true car-pervert!! I am also afflicted (sad face) and also have the thing of 'its only one more' Back before the 2008 financial crash i had a car pitch buying and selling px's from main dealers (good when it was good) but then started accumulating projects and things i wanted to keep.. ended up with more in a unit than i did on the pitch!! I think we need to start a Gofundme page for us and all of our fellow sufferers. Sorry about the personal situation but thank you for allowing us into a brief element of your private life and what you are going through.... its not easy my friend but hopefully you are getting there. Just always remember there is always someone to talk to and if there isn't, get in the Charger, drop her down two and give her the shoe! Top episode 👏
An eclectic collection of vehicles there jonny . Mosty forward thinking clever choices . By far the best channel on the tinterweb. Keep up the good work m8
I had a 1967 “E” plate beetle as My first car. Wish I never sold it. I love how it’s your fav car (the right year too). Beetles get a bad press, but 100% loved mine and all its faults. I’ve had Focus RS MK1 MK3, Racing Puma, ST’s, hence fundamentally I’m a ford guy, but the bug has my heart. you featured my old ford RACING puma on a video W865AVW at an auction, couldn’t believe my eyes!!
What an eclectic collection! I love the Charger. I can’t believe you’ve owned an Impala 20 years and not driven it. The Beetle is cool. The 986 makes perfect sense (my wife owns one). I don’t quite ‘get’ the others, but that’s cool too. Keep up the great work* *no, not everyone has access to a huge barn for their very valuable collection!
Awesome video, and love the style of “it’s not all done, but I’m working on it… ah dam! Thought id fixed that”. Real value and enjoyment, thanks! Happy 2024!
Electrify the Element!!!! And the Impala! See if you can get a deal on doing two at once and do a series taking us through the process for any of us who fancy doing it. Good for the cars that get to live on, good for you getting a reliable workhorse and a reliable fun car, good for the company you partner with for exposure and good for our entertainment and education. win x4. :D And if you fancy getting a Volvo 850 T5 done at the same time that I can then buy off you after, that's fine too! :D
Sorry to hear 2023 was a bit rough, wishing you all the best for 2024! If you need any assistance with dry ice cleaning and underbody protection we’d be happy to help.
The right car at the wrong time is the right car full stop! well done sir - the random car care hero! I do the same thing... its stupid but I enjoy it! haha 9 cars is good going - I think we have 11 now... eeek!
Love all your work Johnny, I’m pleased I guessed correctly on the new project, as a longtime follower from CarPervert days I think I missed the Chevy video one to go back and watch. Sorry to hear the single dad news hope you’re ok, as a single dad myself I share your issue with buying vehicles with not enough seats having bought an ex DHL Sprinter to convert into a camper with only one seat and having 2 boys, I’ve got extra seats and am sorting that problem. I drive my Yellow Sprinter round Taunton with added SnS stickers. Thanks for everything you do, from support in TA1 🙂
Without doubt the most varied car collection on here. Guessed the Smart right away before the cover came off - how sad is that 😂. Keep up the great work. 👍🏻
Jonny, as the owner of a 2CV (alongside a 1932 Morris Minor Open Two-Seater), I'm very pleased to see you become an owner of one of Citroën's finest. I can't wait to see what you have in store for the old girl.
Boxster leaks can often be down to a panel seal behind door cards, also noticed the hood cable is over, not behind the guide above the door. Sell the engine to someone who's been bitten by the IMS bearing and put a 400hp Impreza boxer engine in it!

*Brabus.
And yes. Extremely cool indeed! ;)
im so happy you will keep the patina on the 2CV. Nature can be the worst, but sometimes the best paint booth.
Thanks for taking us through the fleet Johnny. See the Hondas quite often driving past my house. Can’t miss them!
"Frilly Vinyl Wrap" That mod made my Sunday. I bet it also adds at least 5-10 bhp
Also you could save some money doing some work yourself, we can learn from you learning too
I think he should sell most of them, he has no self control and it's quite sad tbh
Love the smart roadster coupe. Excellent choice. I had a coupe a few years ago as a divorce present to myself. Absolutely loved it. I've had a few decent cars and it's the most fun car you can drive.
I’m too scared to do it without the help of an adult. Great one liner!
I have no time for the Beetle but i really like the collection. I listen to your ‘pod’, but your Tokyo Taxi completely passed me by. And i love it.
I think you should keep the taxi, to be fare.
Bum tish!
Sorry to hear the single dad comment Jonny. Hope you’re well ( I mean you clearly not, what an eclectic and mental fleet) 2024 will be a great one, much love from the whole community.
I really really love the wrap on the smart, normally not a fan, but it suits it!
that beetle is a beauty 😍 ngl i saw one recently, wonder if it was you 👀
For me, on a car, there is nothing worse than a leak, and then the feeling you get when you finally fix it. Johnny, I feel your pain.
You and Chris Harris need to race your 2CVs when all up and running!
Thanks Jonny for showing us the sable you are just the man to share automobiles with us. Cheers
Thank you for taking time to write all this. Intending to look at it this week...
2 days ago I was watching Tiff review the Smart Roadster for 5th gear and surfed Autotrader to see what's available - not that I wasn't but SUBSCRIBED!
Nice insight to the fleet 👍
Nice insight in the fleet!
That 64 impala is my dream build, I would love to see more on the process of that beautiful spec
Looking forward to what 2024 has to bring to the channel!
what !! no Lambo's or Ferrari's and you call yourself a utuber😂Love the collection Jonny
I had a Smart Brabus Roadster Coupe (loved it!), then had a Porsche 928S4 (briefly) until my Alpine A110 turned up earlier than expected, now on my 2nd one.
Would love to see more VW Beetle content from your fleet 👌👌👌
I do wonder whether I should make more of a character of the Beetle on the channel. I'll be sure to document the eventual resto as a mini series.
@@TheLateBrakeShowI'd love to see more Bug content! Dugga Dugga Dugga Dugga!
A 74 standard beetle was my first car in 1984, nice to see you still have yours with plans for a resto.
@@TheLateBrakeShowKeep the taxi. You're unlikely to find another one.
@@TheLateBrakeShowDon't touch your Bug too much. Its very honest.
You're an amazing piece of art on this platform Johnny. Thank you for sharing your bad year with us. We're here.
Many thanks. Love our viewers as they really care. . 🙏🏽
The English Hoovies!
Lots of bad decisions, but we love it!
Maybe Jonny should do something with Hoovie?
Yes.
@@TheLateBrakeShow yes!
Been on several long Euro trips (Villa d'Este, lake Como, Austrian F1 GP, old race circuits tour of France etc)
Sadly, I'm as disorganised as you and it's been on my ramp in my workshop for 5 years 😳
Great little cars.
Sorry to hear you're a single dad now 😥
Great to see the Beatle running again, glad it still gives you a great feeling.
Single dad when did that happen
Always had a big soft spot for the design of the smart roadster, cant wait for a full vid on that. Hope '24 brings you good health, wealth and happiness pal.
Single Dad? 😥
I was looking for a comment about this 😢
A true car-pervert!!
Single dad??? What happened?
Ive got a 2015 convertible beetle in exact same colour as yours. French racing blue. Simply lovely.
What an eclectic collection!
I love the Charger. I can’t believe you’ve owned an Impala 20 years and not driven it. The Beetle is cool. The 986 makes perfect sense (my wife owns one). I don’t quite ‘get’ the others, but that’s cool too. Keep up the great work*
*no, not everyone has access to a huge barn for their very valuable collection!
Good for the cars that get to live on, good for you getting a reliable workhorse and a reliable fun car, good for the company you partner with for exposure and good for our entertainment and education.
win x4. :D
And if you fancy getting a Volvo 850 T5 done at the same time that I can then buy off you after, that's fine too! :D
Sorry to hear 2023 was a bit rough, wishing you all the best for 2024! If you need any assistance with dry ice cleaning and underbody protection we’d be happy to help.
☺️beetle is a barn find in your own barn! Love the 2cv
The right car at the wrong time is the right car full stop! well done sir - the random car care hero! I do the same thing... its stupid but I enjoy it! haha 9 cars is good going - I think we have 11 now... eeek!
Really enjoyed this. Immediately felt a lot better that it's not just me trying to keep a fleet of cars on the road. It's a lot of work!
Oh! You should team up with Tasty Classics on the 2CV. That’s right up his alley. And you two together would be a hoot!
Sending you wishes for a happy, healthy and fun 2024, Jonny!
I personally, would watch the hell out of a patina 2cv restoration series! Do it, do it, do it, do it, do it, do it!!!
Boxster leaks can often be down to a panel seal behind door cards, also noticed the hood cable is over, not behind the guide above the door. Sell the engine to someone who's been bitten by the IMS bearing and put a 400hp Impreza boxer engine in it!
