Its been too long since I've seen what's happening with the Allegro, after I ran out of videos to watch and had seen all the Princess vid's up to that point I sort of forgot all about it, so I'm really happy that there's another bunch of vids to catch up on, I find them very interesting and enjoyable so cheers for that.

Some years ago I helped a friend building kit cars and Lotus 7 'replicas' (actually I only held the spanners) so watching your fabrication skills is fascinating. Looks nice, i did an engine swap on a 205 once, instead of changing the manifold (shortening it) i decided to go the route of bulk head modification to get more room. I have seen people extending wings also cutting up an old wing to lengthening the pre-existing one very hard to tell its been done (need to ofc lengthen bonnet or panel Infront of window) Few mini engine swaps take this route with flip fronts that are a tiny bit longer. Maybe an option for a few inches if you get stuck. Looking smart though. Cant wait to see it finished, but will miss the updates once it is.

29:00 with regards to the steering rack you need to make sure that it is mounted at the right height in order to avoid bump steer. The track rod ends have a 'relationship' with the lower suspension wishbone, you can google this but for the cars that I have worked on I just stuck a B+Q laser onto the brake disk or some other suitable component then jacked the suspension through it range 10mm at a time, the laser can be pointed a sheet of paper a couple of metres in front of the car, you can mark the laser dots every 10mm then join them together, the line should be more or less vertical, if it heads outwards or inwards you have bump steer. (which will TOTALLY ruin the handling!). Maybe you already know about bump steer and have sorted this out, in which case I am teaching you to suck eggs! If not PLEASE look into this, bump steer really does ruin a car's handling!
In my opinion the Allegro is and always was a horrible car! (meant in a nice way!) I guess that is why you are making a street sleeper out of one, it will still look sort of 'horrible' but will scare the crap out of of any BMW drivers that 'try it on' Nice one! My mate and I have built a Rover SD1 (not quite as horrible apart from the gold colour!) but with a tuned 4.6 V8 lump, it has took a lot of effort but it puts out 315 BHP that goes through a Cosworth T5 box running Quaife straight cut close ratio gears (tall first gear), it runs a Quaife LSD....BMW drivers don't like this car either!

The hilarious thing about this Allegro sleeper is that nobody even knows what an Allegro is anymore. I'm over 40 and I vaguely remember them being on the road when I was a kid in the 80s, but now you never see them in the wild so it makes no difference whether you make it into a sleeper or not. I think today something like a Citroen Xsara Picasso might be a better shout but even the early ones of those are getting rare.

@@FabCoUK I think it's a great project. Sticking with front wheel drive and maintaining a fairly normal outside appearance is completely my way of doing things. Don't like it when people mate a shell with parts that are too unrelated to the spirit of the original car... i.e. to the point when the donor vehicle is more dominant within the finished product than the original car.

i think the gearbox mount is causing uou issues as you are trying to use the same mount both sides. If you look at the standard ep3 gearbox mount its a round mount tyrned the other way so takes out a lot of rock and wont matter where it is in relation to the other side

Epic progress. Looks like it's evolving nicely. I'm still a bit concerned the escort rack placed behind the bottom ball joints will give it back to front steering though.

I came here to say the same thing!, With it being mounted behind the axle in the Allegro, and in front of the axle in an escort. Unless it's a left hand drive rack upside down!
