IS THE PORSCHE CAYMAN 987 A FUTURE CLASSIC? | Prices Going Up | Buying a 987.1 | Time To Buy

  • Is it now time to buy a Porsche Cayman 987.1 before the values of the cars goes up in price. I am sure the Porsche Cayman 987.1 is a future classic if it is not already a classic. I bought my 987.1 S back in July 2020 and in this video I am going to cover some of the prices of the cars online in 2021 and how much I have found they have gone up by. I thought I paid quite a lot for my Cayman S but as it was a low milage car I felt it was worth it. I have noticed that over the last year and during lockdown the prices have rocketed of all Caymans including the 987.1 and 987.2 cars.
    I have made a point in this video of explaining I am not a motor trader, expert or a financial advisor and that these are just some of the things I have found online. I think whichever way you look at the Cayman being a future classic car there is no denying that the prices are increasing at a rapid rate and now may be a good time to buy in to the 987.1 before it is too late.
    If you are a regular viewer of this channel, thank you so much for coming back time and time again and helping the channel grow at a rate I could never have imagined. Very optimistic and would love to agree. Definitely gone up, perhaps not much as you stated. Checked out mine and most similar is going for £16,750 and I got mine for £10k, but I honestly do not think I could get that asking price, maybe get £13 to £15k. I’ve only had mine 18 months and love it to bits. I think the cayman bottomed out at £10k and is increasing just like the original boxster which bottomed out at around £5k and now is around £7k. All pointless as we have no urgency to sell, these are keepers, especially the 987.1. Great informative vid

    "5000 is about the average for a Cayman in a year."
    Me, sitting here after a month and a bit having put 2500 miles on it 😬
    Also I reckon that we're not going to hit electric cars only for a very long time. My thought is that we're going to be using hybrids most of the time, with sports car owners going around in 3 cylinder forced induction monsters with batteries to supplement. So the flat 6 of today, will be a twin turbo 3 cylinder hybrid in the future.

    It's very hard to explain, other than the post pandemic market. I have a 2006 S with 98k miles on it but super clean and never had an issue other than new wheels and fixing an electrical issue right after I bought it. (Which Porsche did at almost no charge). I have people come up to my driveway and ask me if I want to sell her. Mind you, I don't even have a for sale sign nor do I want to. A very special car indeed.

      I got offered money the other week! It’s mad isn’t it! I’m hoping they they keep rising, nice to have a car not lose money for once. I have no intention of selling, would love a 911 turbo s at some point tho. The Porsche bug has well and truly bitten me! Love hearing about cars like yours with nearly 100k on it! They way it’s meant to be, drive it, add fuel and repeat!

      @@JoeTalksCars ha yeah my first year of ownership I was like a paranoid wreck as mine had a rebuild previously and I was convinced it had failed again as I had smoke and what I would say high oil useage etc etc, but on long calm runs it would be ok…
      but then I was reading a thread on the people who track them with similar sounding issues and talking about how the standard AOS is very weak under load all the time and I thought hangon a second - I never don’t have my foot down to the floor whenever I take it out, what if I just try and drive it normally. I changed my AOS again this time myself with a genuine Porsche one, cleaned out all the intake which seemed to have oil in.
      over a year later and it Turns out that solved my issue! So now if I have one of those country lanes I will make sure I try to at least do a few miles steady driving to settle things down, and I give it a very slight blip to 2000rpm before shutdown
      Long story short when you do get it back just make note the standard AOS is weak that’s why they offer the race version of the AOS

    Hey Joe, really enjoying following your Cayman story and seeing both the ups and the downs. Still saving for a midlife crisis car, but it’s likely to be a 987 Cayman or a e46 M3. I agree, I think the prices will rise too. 911s are out of my price bracket and Boxters aren’t for me. Not much else out there that you would consider a fun sports car with this sort of precise handling for the £12-£20k price bracket. I think budget will mean I’ll have to go for a slightly higher mileage example. Keep up the good work, for my sake I hope they don’t rise too quickly as I’m still saving!

    • @JoeTalksCars
      @JoeTalksCars  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      911s have gone crazy. Even the 996 cars are rocketing, I’d put money there if I wanted a 911 now. Even with the higher prices you are correct, nothing out there this good for such a relatively small amount of cash. Good luck with the search, don’t be put off by higher miles, just good service history and it will be fine:)

      That’s mad! Always been very cautious when buying new cars, the depreciation hurts. It seems that you either need to buy old like my 2006 cayman or brand new PCP with an exit date. I bought a Megane CC 2007 for over £15k back in 2008 and it probably halved its value in a year. French cars are the absolute worst for it. German is better, Porsche is certainly the best for holding. Just look at Porsche Macans they haven’t even lost a 3rd 7 years on!
