Summer of 1978,in Fort Collins, Colorado...and I'm in the basement of my relative's house. I find an album...The Allan Parsons Project. With the headphones on, I listen to this band for the first time. Oh my gosh...I loved it! I was 15 at the time...and I have continued listening to them,as an adult!
These guys, Moody Blues, Pink Floyd, Meat Load - my dad will never admit it, but he subjected me and my sister with their collective music on our annual family road trips to see our relatives. And you have never known boredom if you haven’t had to drive from Saint Louis to Boston in the 90s before the invention of pocket portable internet 😂
Alan Parsons approached each album as if he was producing a movie. Wrote the songs with Woolfson, then hired the best musicians, singers he thought could do the part so well. Each album had a theme and could be quite different than those that came earlier.
His concerts are still like that! I had the joy of seeing him live, and you could really tell he picked out which member of his touring team would be best to sing each song, with PJ Olsson and Todd Cooper being spotlighted beautifully. He's still very much a producer, and it's amazing.
I wondered when someone was going to get around to reacting to this one! I love the album "Turn of a Friendly Card" and every song on it, including this one. I actually bought the album because I loved the name and the cover art. I had no idea I would love the music just as much. This was the first single off the album (if I remember correctly), but I loved the second single, "Time", even more. This is one of the best LPs from the early 80's.
Alan Parson's helped write, produce, or perform albums for The Beatles, Paul McCartney and Wings, The Hollies, Al Stewart, Pink Floyd and Scottish group called Pilot. He's had his hand in a LOT of music. I would recommend the song "Time" from them.
Alan Parsons is an immense talent as a singer, songwriter and producer. Parsons was the sound engineer on notable albums, including the Beatles' Abbey Road (1969) and Let It Be (1970), Pink Floyd's The Dark Side of the Moon (1973), and the eponymous debut album by Ambrosia in 1975. Parsons's own group, the Alan Parsons Project. This tune and Eye in the Sky were APP's biggest hits.
I got to see Alan Parsons live in 2019, what a great show. This song was the finale, and it was absolutely amazing. It just builds and builds, leaving you feeling great.
Parsons is the driving force for the "group" ... he uses session musicians to play his concepts and creations. Quite a library of albums, so LOTS to choose from... happy hunting. ❤😊
Alan Parsons was just the sound engineer, for everything else there was Eric Woolfson as well as a selection of excellent singers and musicians who interpreted the songs composed by him.
Alan Parsons Project.....THAT is who you listen to in '76, '77, '78 when you're 6, 7, 8 years old and your sisters are teenagers. This, and old J. Geils, old Heart, old Bob Seger, old ELO. Long-time APP fan, glad to see you getting into Alan and the boys. Alan and Eric always surrounded themselves with amazing musicians. Primary lead guitarist Ian Bairnson recently passed away, but sure left us an amazing legacy of music. The album Stereotomy was released when i was in high school and i just wore out that cassette then my buddy Steve got me into all of the older APP catalogue. So much greatness.
I am so glad that you finally came back around to the Alan Parsons Project! Next up from them you should do To One In Paradise, The Eagle Will Rise Again and (The System Of) Doctor Tarr And Professor Fether. You are going to love these.

Before he started the Project, Alan Parsons was a recording engineer at Abbey Road Studios in London. These guys just made interesting music with thoughtful lyrics and were so not mainstream. They were my escape from top 40 crap.
Awww, I’m the first comment!👏👏👏❤️ And, you showed the video to see the AP musicians doing their thing! Great song! Love the drums! You need to hear the song “ Time” my favorite!!
If no one has already pointed this out, Alan Parsons is famous for being a producer on Pink Floyds - Dark Side of the Moon in 1973. His 1975 album, I Robot is similar in sound. Do his song from that album, I Wouldnt Want to be Like You.
At 18, Alan (beard, horns on head, keyboard) was hired as an assistant engineer at Abbey Roads Studios. He worked on the Beatles' "Get Back" sessions and his first producing credit was on "Abbey Road" - He worked on Al Stewart's "Year of the Cat" album and turned down Pink Floyd's offer to produce "Wish You Were Here" because he was launching this group. The Alan Parson's Project basically involved revolving studio musicians, singers, and songwriters.
From Wikipedia… Parsons was the sound engineer on notable albums, including the Beatles' Abbey Road (1969) and Let It Be (1970), Pink Floyd's The Dark Side of the Moon (1973), and the eponymous debut album by Ambrosia in 1975. Parsons's own group, the Alan Parsons Project, as well as his subsequent solo recordings, have also been commercially successful. He has been nominated for 13 Grammy Awards, with his first win occurring in 2019 for Best Immersive Audio Album for Eye in the Sky (35th Anniversary Edition).
Don't Answer Me - great song, video is VERY cool. Games People Play is one of two hits off of "Turn of a Friendly Card" - the other is called Time, but the whole album is absolute genius even if there weren't a string of singles. Particularly "May Be a Price to Pay"
Always liked this song. Has a "Ride Like The Wind" feel! If it wasn't so long, I would loke their reaction to Alan Parsons "Tales Of Mystery and Imagination" lp. It is a concept album based on the literature of Edgar Allen Poe. Parsons was the sound engineer on the Pink Floyd masterpiece "Dark Side Of The Moon" when he worked at I think Abbey Road Studios.🎉
Alan Parsons was the assistant sound engineer for the Beatles "Abbey Road" album in 1969, and as others have mentioned, engineered & produced Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon" in '73 before creating his own music. When I first heard PF's "Us and Them" I thought it was an Alan Parsons tune, then discovered he was the engineer & I thought, "Ok that makes sense." 🙂 Alan Parsons Project had so many hits in the late '70's & '80's including: "Time" (one of the most beautifully arranged songs ever), "Psychobabble", "You Don't Believe", "Don't Answer Me", "I Wouldn't Want to Be Like You", "Damned If I Do", "Days Are Numbers" (it has a sweet saxophone solo), "Prime Time", "Can't Take It with You", "Breakdown", and on & on! Plus APP created some stirring instrumental songs including "I Robot", "Sirius" (affectionately remembered as the mantra for the great 1990's Chicago Bulls), and the groundbreaking 1982 tour -de-force "Mammagamma" - one of the earliest songs almost totally performed by a computer.
So much great stuff from the Alan Parsons Project! Each album had a central concept or theme and the music was written to embrace it. Alan is still producing his own music and out performing with the Alan Parsons Live Project. I’ve seen him in concert and got to meet him once as well as sit in on a pre-concert sound check. He is every bit as much of a perfectionist in concert as he is in the studio, walking around the seating area of the venue while the rest of the band plays, making sure the sound mix is correct for the entire hall. So much talent…plus, he’s a very talented magician and is a member of the Los Angeles Magic Castle.
Oh, by the way, the guy on the keyboard is Eric Woolfson, who was the other (unnamed) half of The Alan Parsons Project. The two of them made for an extraordinarily talented musical team by coming up with the concept for each album, writing the music, playing instruments and providing vocals. Alan is the guy at the mixing board in this video, shaping the each album by acting as sound engineer as well.
When you have on your resume two of the best albums of the past, your more than just lucky, as an engineer he helped with ideas, as both groups were always exploring new sounds 1) Beatles - Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Heart Club & 2) Pink Floyd - Dark Side Of The Moon. His first album was music based on Edgar Allan Poe's works called Tales of Mystery & Imagination.
You guys are hitting some super 70s classics today and I love it. Alan Parsons was a talented tech man as well as musician. He engineered some of the Beetles classics there at Abbey Road Studios. But his project or projects have been amazing contributions to music. Please continue with this project. Some other suggestions It’s been long time for some John Denver I think you’d both really love Calypso. Give that a try soon. Thanks for all the entertainment and for the great message you always present. You’re great kids and I love your channels.
Crazy. Been listening to this song since I was a kid, own the record ... NEVER seen this video before! So thank you for that :) Such a great song. I would be happy watching endless hours of studio footage. Never gets old to me.
Funny enough; Alan Parsons himself, put out a new album, about 10 months ago. It's called From The New World, and it is really good. The whole album can be listened to; right here on TH-cam, on Parson's channel. Everyone's need to give it a listen. The more interesting thing about the Project; is the fact it's made up of all Music Producers. So these guys know music pretty well.
And too, Al Stewart - The Year Of The Cat (produced by Alan Parsons)
Alan Parsons is a sound engineering genius. Ask any qualified sound engineers and they'll tell you that this guy was precise way before the technology caught up.

Parsons was the sound engineer on notable albums, including the Beatles' Abbey Road (1969) and Let It Be (1970), Pink Floyd's The Dark Side of the Moon (1973), and the eponymous debut album by Ambrosia in 1975.
An almost forgotten gem, fun choice.
Wouldn’t wanna be like you is definitely worth a listen, another alan parson song on my playlist
Don't Answer Me - great song, video is VERY cool.
Games People Play is one of two hits off of "Turn of a Friendly Card" - the other is called Time, but the whole album is absolute genius even if there weren't a string of singles. Particularly "May Be a Price to Pay"
I play this LP on my GOOGOLPHONIC STEREO WITH THE MOONROCK NEEDLE.
There’s another great song with that title :
“The Games People Play “ by JOE SOUTH it’s really good too , great voice , instruments and message!
Days Are Numbers (The Traveller) is an amazing song by them.
I Love The Alan Parsons Project. I've always found the seriousness of their lyrics combined with primarily upbeat music was always cool.
Wore this album out back in the day.
Alan Parsons also engineered The Dark Side of the Moon.
the whole I Robot album is great from cover to cover
Absolute gem of a song, always on rock radio in 80s
