I heard that they were in the studio and he did the stutter as a joke, and when they went to actually record he dropped the stutter. The producer said”wait why are you doing it different now?” He said “oh we were just joking around with that” the producer told them to keep it in…. Good call

Randy’s brother had a stutter so Randy was initially just doing sibling teasing and made up some lines. They were all laughing and the audience loved it. I personally think the late 60's barely edges out the 70's but it is a close thing. My generation listened to 80's music. And there was some really good stuff there, but I felt it took a big step back from the previous 2 decades. My children listen to just about everything. But most of their friends in school have never heard of anyone who isn't current and in the style they like. They just don't try other stuff. Sad really.
This Canadian band can really rock and had quite a few bangers. TAKIN' CARE OF BUSINESS, GIMME YOUR MONEY PLEASE and LET IT RIDE are pure rock and roll. So many great groups came from Canada like the Guess Who, Rush, April Wine, Nickelback and the Band.
Not sure which decade I enjoyed the 70's or the 80's but both were full of great styles, great music, and for the most part super good vibes. The Guess Who was great, "These Eyes" to me, was probably the most annoying song I've ever heard. Sounds like Burton Cummings couldn't think of enough lyrics for it.

B.T.O. is such a great band. Definitely do Takin’ Care Of Business next. Their most famous song and some great guitar playing on it. Also, Randy Bachman was in The Guess Who, and they had a number of great songs too.
BTO was driving force of rock in the 70's. My personal favorite is "Roll On Down the Highway," but you can't go wrong with "Let It Ride," or "Takin' Care of Business."
Randy started as "the GUESS WHO" and followed with "BTO" and is often in interviews still. A real CANADIAN talented group. You guys don't realize how OFTEN of the material is either written by a Canadian or also performed by Canadian talent as well.

It was the most diverse decade. Soft rock, hard rock, other kinds of rock, phenomenal R&B and disco. And the best singers, too. Didn"t know Randy Bachman was in The Guess Who. Jay and Amber you need to revisit them. Do American Woman (Lenny Kravitz covered this) or Undun. A great group.
Exact same age. Was at DMV on my 16th birthday - now kids don't care to drive, would rather have Uber take them. Of course along with music cars were fun then too. Used my summer job money to buy a five year old Mustang which would be worth its weight in gold now for like 300 bucks or so.
My personal favorite is the very hard hitting “Let It Ride”. There are 2 main singers in this group. This guy also takes the lead on the infamous “Taking Care Of Business”. The other singer has a much harder “rock” voice which I prefer and he sings lead on the hits “Let It Ride” and “Roll On Down The Highway”
This song was absolutely huge in 1974. Randy Bachman's brother was the bands manager for a time and he stuttered. This song was a bit of a teas from older brother Randy to his younger brother but wasn't supposed to be on the album...until the record company heard it and said "this song is going to be a huge hit!". Went to number one in 22 countries!
I read back in the day that he didn't think he could hold a note so he 'chopped' it LOL If you watch the special where he and the guess who guy did together in like 2005(?) the guess who dude teases the sellout of him about it.
He absolutely did NOT have a stutter, it was just how he decided to sing this song. None of his other songs had any stutter in them, and his regular talking voice never had any kind of stutter. Stop making up lies.

Randy tells the audience a little story about how each song came about before performing it. It's one of my favorite dvd's. You should pick up a copy if you can but I believe they're getting hard to find, and expensive. Have a wonderful Sunday!
I remember hearing about this and am so glad they demanded it be on the album. It was a joke song to rib his brother and just meant as filler while they were figuring out other things. And it is truly an amazing song. I think my favorite of theirs is looking out for number 1, but this is up there for sure.
"B.T.O" as we affectionately called them always had this driving sound. Funny thing about that song and the stutter thing that Randy performed came about from him teasing his little brother who came into the sound studio, and he started to make fun of his speech problem. It ended up in the song and many other artists started using the stutter i.e. The Who, Elton John and so on.

Amazing bit of trivia about Bachman's "stutter" in this. When they were recording it in the studio, he improvised it because his brother was there & he was poking fun at him... his brother had a stutter since childhood. Everyone liked it so much, they left it in the final recording.

Loved growing up in the 70’s too , most people were so chill and laid back or maybe just the people I was around but I don’t think so because you see that in movies and such from that time as well! man it was an awesome time to be alive and I loved every dang minute of it . Looking back now (I'm 70) it was amazing how from New York to Los Angeles and Washington to Florida we were all on the same page groovin' to the same vibe, fighting for the same issues and looking for love and peace. A whole nation of young people united by our music. And all we had was landlines, snail mail, and 3 TV channels!🔥🤣❤✌

My older Brothers turned me onto the 60s bands when I was a rug rat but when I got to High School in the early 70's it was all about BTO, Aerosmith, Skynard, The Outlaws, Styx, Queen, Journey, Kansas, Boston and Fogelberg. Amber, as someone who grew up in the 70s and can unequivocally say how right you are. We were blessed to be exposed to so such a huge variety of music across a wide range of genres on a daily basis. If you're a music lover (which I know you are!) it was a great time to be growing up!

Yes, Sledgehammer and there were a number of great songs that weren't hits, but soooo good. Reactors don't get into the non hit music much, so miss a lot!
The guitar Randy is playing will have a documentary about it in the near future. It was his favorite and he composed many hits on it. It was stolen in the mid 1970s and he had searched for it ever since. A man read about it and went on a quest to find it. He was a able to identify the unique wood pattern and found it being played by a musician in Japan. Randy agreed to buy the guy another similar guitar to get his back. He has yet to fly to Japan to recover it.
This makes me happy. So much. This is the song that got played so much people got sick of it and in fact their other song Takin Care of Business was actually the music you would hear on hold at Office Depot for the longest time. But they were such an incredible band. I'm glad you were able to pick up on the vibe for sure.

Every time I hear 70s music like this, I think of summers as a teenager hanging out at the CNE on the midway with my friends enjoying the rides, games, the people!! Our local radio station 1050 CHUM was the music you'd hear throughout the midway!! It was such a great time to be alive!! They were my first concert in 1973 in Bellingham Washington when I was a Freshman in college. Cool story is the backup band was Blind Willie. About ten years ago I took my guitar to get repaired at a guys shop in Spokane. He had a Gold record on his wall from this album. My guitar tech had played on this record. And I remember him from the concert in 73 playing lead for the backup band at my first concert. We became fast friends. It was a fun concert.
This group was extremely versatile a song you should check out is Blue Collar the common working-class anthem... BTO was a rock band but Blue Collar is a bluesy jazzy lounge tune... the guitar work will blow your mind. Cheers from Canada. Love you folks and your channel.

While being 60 might not sound like a benefit, living through these musical periods and how each song connected to my life is something that is organic. It is as if these songs were trading cards coming out one at a time, sometimes in bunches with connections to one another and still able to fan them out mentally. I am glad you are finding new music you love and sharing it with others. BTO was big and really different at the time.
Well said! As a fellow 60+ this is a thrill to watch our songs come back via these reaction videos. RSR has that excited new discovery approach that is a kick. A&A has a more cerebral reaction but with depth and a musical background. It is all awesome to me.
Fun fact: Randy's brother had a studder and Randy was teasing him when he practiced the song, they actually recorded it without the studder but the producer love the studder and that's the way he put it out. He like all brothers do was teasing his brother in a joking manner and not out of meanness like alot of people think.
When that song came out in the 70's, it was on every jukebox. Great tune. And band. BTO has a lot of great music. As mentioned already, "Taking Care of Business" should be your next one. Y'all will love it.

I learned from an interview with Randy Bachman years and years ago that he wanted BTO to be a rhythm based rock band. But I didn't know until very recently that they were sharing a dressing room with the Doobie Brothers in New Orleans during Mardi Gras in the first half of the 1970s when he worked out some of "Let It Ride" and the Doobies then based "Long Train Running" on his guitar noodlings as he ironed it out. That is astonishing and good to know because the Doobies are one of my all time favourite bands! Randy said in that interview eons ago, back in the 1970s IIRC, that he wanted a band that was rhythmically similar to CCR and the Doobies. Killer rhythm was the thing back in the 1970s and is much too absent from today's music. And BTO has so many excellent lead guitar solos! 😉🎸👌 That "70s sound of guitar" comes from there not being many guitar pedals to alter the sound of the guitar at the time. So if you were going to be an excellent guitarist you had to have "touch" in your fingers. There are plenty of good guitar players around today but also way too many that bury the actual tone of their guitars underneath a ton of effects pedals. The really good guitar players around today will tell you to develop your own signature "sound" with your guitar before drifting off into "guitar pedal-land" and obscurity because you just sound like some over processed thing that no one can get next to in their heart and mind. The lead guitarist in this song was Blair Thornton from Vancouver. 🎸🎸🎸
I love this song. I was a teenager in the 70s and I wasn’t a big fan of a lot of the disco but the rest was great. I grew up with 60s and 70s music and it was wonderful. As an adult I appreciate it even more.

The Guess Who was great, "These Eyes" to me, was probably the most annoying song I've ever heard. Sounds like Burton Cummings couldn't think of enough lyrics for it.

@@billyf2833 Yep...those were the days (early 70s). Ours was likely very similar. Could turn on speakers in selected rooms from where the stereo was mounted or from the room you were in.
After BTO he released 2 more albums with a few good songs under the name Ironhorse.
BTO was one of Canada's finest bands. I haven't listened to their music for ages. This was a nice music memory. Thanks for the upload and the real reaction.

B.T.O. is such a great band. Definitely do Takin’ Care Of Business next. Their most famous song and some great guitar playing on it. Also, Randy Bachman was in The Guess Who, and they had a number of great songs too.

BTO = the soundtrack of my youth. 1974 I was 12. Discovered Rush about the same time - prob. 13 for that. 1970's music was/is matchless.
This song is another reason why I loved growing up listening to the music from the 70's.
This is a band that my dad introduced me to ... along with Three Dog Night and The Guess Who. Lots of great songs to discover from all these bands!

BTO was driving force of rock in the 70's. My personal favorite is "Roll On Down the Highway," but you can't go wrong with "Let It Ride," or "Takin' Care of Business."
Randy started as "the GUESS WHO" and followed with "BTO" and is often in interviews still. A real CANADIAN talented group. You guys don't realize how OFTEN of the material is either written by a Canadian or also performed by Canadian talent as well.

It was the most diverse decade. Soft rock, hard rock, other kinds of rock, phenomenal R&B and disco. And the best singers, too. Didn"t know Randy Bachman was in The Guess Who. Jay and Amber you need to revisit them. Do American Woman (Lenny Kravitz covered this) or Undun. A great group.
Exact same age. Was at DMV on my 16th birthday - now kids don't care to drive, would rather have Uber take them. Of course along with music cars were fun then too. Used my summer job money to buy a five year old Mustang which would be worth its weight in gold now for like 300 bucks or so.

Yup. Deep Purple’s keyboard player John Lord (RIP) and guitarist Ritchie Blackmore definitely were what the the 70s was all about.
That's because they had real drummers instead of programed, and no synthesizers (which have no soul!)
My personal favorite is the very hard hitting “Let It Ride”. There are 2 main singers in this group. This guy also takes the lead on the infamous “Taking Care Of Business”. The other singer has a much harder “rock” voice which I prefer and he sings lead on the hits “Let It Ride” and “Roll On Down The Highway”

This song was absolutely huge in 1974. Randy Bachman's brother was the bands manager for a time and he stuttered. This song was a bit of a teas from older brother Randy to his younger brother but wasn't supposed to be on the album...until the record company heard it and said "this song is going to be a huge hit!". Went to number one in 22 countries!
I read back in the day that he didn't think he could hold a note so he 'chopped' it LOL If you watch the special where he and the guess who guy did together in like 2005(?) the guess who dude teases the sellout of him about it.
He absolutely did NOT have a stutter, it was just how he decided to sing this song. None of his other songs had any stutter in them, and his regular talking voice never had any kind of stutter. Stop making up lies.
@@onetruthmediacompany Randy Bachman didn't studder, his brother did. Randy told the story himself on his concert dvd "Every Song Tells a Story". Randy tells the audience a little story about how each song came about before performing it. It's one of my favorite dvd's. You should pick up a copy if you can but I believe they're getting hard to find, and expensive. Have a wonderful Sunday!

I remember hearing about this and am so glad they demanded it be on the album. It was a joke song to rib his brother and just meant as filler while they were figuring out other things. And it is truly an amazing song. I think my favorite of theirs is looking out for number 1, but this is up there for sure.
"B.T.O" as we affectionately called them always had this driving sound. Funny thing about that song and the stutter thing that Randy performed came about from him teasing his little brother who came into the sound studio, and he started to make fun of his speech problem. It ended up in the song and many other artists started using the stutter i.e. The Who, Elton John and so on.
Roger Daltrey used the stutter in The Who classic My Generation in 1965, years before this came out.

Amazing bit of trivia about Bachman's "stutter" in this. When they were recording it in the studio, he improvised it because his brother was there & he was poking fun at him... his brother had a stutter since childhood. Everyone liked it so much, they left it in the final recording.

Loved growing up in the 70’s too , most people were so chill and laid back or maybe just the people I was around but I don’t think so because you see that in movies and such from that time as well! man it was an awesome time to be alive and I loved every dang minute of it . My kids laugh at the music I listen to and my hippie clothes 😂
Looking back now (I'm 70) it was amazing how from New York to Los Angeles and Washington to Florida we were all on the same page groovin' to the same vibe, fighting for the same issues and looking for love and peace. A whole nation of young people united by our music. And all we had was landlines, snail mail, and 3 TV channels!🔥🤣❤✌

Summer of ‘74, I was swimming at a public pool and they would play the hits over a big PA. This came on and instantly fell in love with rock!
Amber.. I'm with on the 70's ! There is something about 70s music that gets in your blood, that strikes a chord and difficult to describe to those who aren't familiar. My older Brothers turned me onto the 60s bands when I was a rug rat but when I got to High School in the early 70's it was all about BTO, Aerosmith, Skynard, The Outlaws, Styx, Queen, Journey, Kansas, Boston and Fogelberg. Thank you guys for taking me back...

Amber, as someone who grew up in the 70s and can unequivocally say how right you are. We were blessed to be exposed to so such a huge variety of music across a wide range of genres on a daily basis. If you're a music lover (which I know you are!) it was a great time to be growing up!

This is my favorite B.T.O song but when I was a kid my sister had the 45 "Hey You" which I recommend. They do seem like a fun band.
The guitar Randy is playing will have a documentary about it in the near future. It was his favorite and he composed many hits on it. It was stolen in the mid 1970s and he had searched for it ever since. A man read about it and went on a quest to find it. He was a able to identify the unique wood pattern and found it being played by a musician in Japan. Randy agreed to buy the guy another similar guitar to get his back. He has yet to fly to Japan to recover it.
This makes me happy. So much. This is the song that got played so much people got sick of it and in fact their other song Takin Care of Business was actually the music you would hear on hold at Office Depot for the longest time. But they were such an incredible band. I'm glad you were able to pick up on the vibe for sure.

Amber you're right about the 70's. It was AMAZING. I turned 15 tears old in 1970 so my teen and young adult years were in that decade. I danced and sang my way through them. Ahhh sweet memories. These songs are bringing it all back. Thanks guys.

Every time I hear 70s music like this, I think of summers as a teenager hanging out at the CNE on the midway with my friends enjoying the rides, games, the people!! Our local radio station 1050 CHUM was the music you'd hear throughout the midway!! It was such a great time to be alive!! They were my first concert in 1973 in Bellingham Washington when I was a Freshman in college. Cool story is the backup band was Blind Willie. About ten years ago I took my guitar to get repaired at a guys shop in Spokane. He had a Gold record on his wall from this album. My guitar tech had played on this record. And I remember him from the concert in 73 playing lead for the backup band at my first concert. We became fast friends. It was a fun concert.
This group was extremely versatile a song you should check out is Blue Collar the common working-class anthem... BTO was a rock band but Blue Collar is a bluesy jazzy lounge tune... the guitar work will blow your mind. Cheers from Canada. Love you folks and your channel.

Randy Bachman was a founding member of the Guess Who and the stutter part was a tribute to his brother who had a stutter when they were growing up. There is a cool jazzy cover of this by his Guess Who band mate Burton Cummings on his solo album

While being 60 might not sound like a benefit, living through these musical periods and how each song connected to my life is something that is organic. It is as if these songs were trading cards coming out one at a time, sometimes in bunches with connections to one another and still able to fan them out mentally. I am glad you are finding new music you love and sharing it with others. BTO was big and really different at the time.
Well said! As a fellow 60+ this is a thrill to watch our songs come back via these reaction videos. RSR has that excited new discovery approach that is a kick. A&A has a more cerebral reaction but with depth and a musical background. It is all awesome to me.

Fun fact: Randy's brother had a studder and Randy was teasing him when he practiced the song, they actually recorded it without the studder but the producer love the studder and that's the way he put it out. He like all brothers do was teasing his brother in a joking manner and not out of meanness like alot of people think.

It was also a time when people didn’t have to spend a fortune to see a live show. I attended an incredible number of concerts back in the day. I couldn’t afford to do that now. Rock on guys!🌺✌️

I learned from an interview with Randy Bachman years and years ago that he wanted BTO to be a rhythm based rock band. But I didn't know until very recently that they were sharing a dressing room with the Doobie Brothers in New Orleans during Mardi Gras in the first half of the 1970s when he worked out some of "Let It Ride" and the Doobies then based "Long Train Running" on his guitar noodlings as he ironed it out. That is astonishing and good to know because the Doobies are one of my all time favourite bands! Randy said in that interview eons ago, back in the 1970s IIRC, that he wanted a band that was rhythmically similar to CCR and the Doobies. Killer rhythm was the thing back in the 1970s and is much too absent from today's music. And BTO has so many excellent lead guitar solos! 😉🎸👌
That "70s sound of guitar" comes from there not being many guitar pedals to alter the sound of the guitar at the time. So if you were going to be an excellent guitarist you had to have "touch" in your fingers. There are plenty of good guitar players around today but also way too many that bury the actual tone of their guitars underneath a ton of effects pedals. The really good guitar players around today will tell you to develop your own signature "sound" with your guitar before drifting off into "guitar pedal-land" and obscurity because you just sound like some over processed thing that no one can get next to in their heart and mind.

I love this song. I was a teenager in the 70s and I wasn’t a big fan of a lot of the disco but the rest was great. I grew up with 60s and 70s music and it was wonderful. As an adult I appreciate it even more.
