if they ever start doing full album reviews, Turn of a Friendly Card should be on the short lists. Some albums are simply made to be listened too in full, in one sitting.
I would like if you could please do a reaction video of "TIME" that my late brother who really loved this song and I think you guys would love it too!!!!!
I always loved "Winding Me Up" I think it was used as a TV outro in the 80s, too. Hard to choose, but Turn of a Friendly Card is probably my favorite APP album.
"I Wouldn't Want to Be Like You" is a big favorite -- rockin' pseudo-disco from the 'I Robot' album. My only complaint is it's too short; but still a great tune.
Alan Parsons Project is one of my 3 most favorite bands of all time....right up there with The Moody Blues and the Bee Gees. I have their whole collection.
If you continue with more from The Alan Parsons Project, be sure to react to "Sirius" and "Eye In The Sky". Those two are meant to be played back-to-back.
I still remember The Alan Parsons Project "Days Are Numbers (The Traveller)" was the first song I heard played on the radio that was on a CD. I remember the DJ announcing it just as I pulled into my driveway. I sat in the car and listened to the whole song, and still remember the DJ saying it was "coming to you loud and proud."
Talk about a song that has flown totally under everyone's radar! I remember the video for this used to play back in the early 80's on TBS's weekend music video show called "Night Tracks"...I love this song.
I am saying it again that the song that you need to listen to from the Alan Parsons project is I Wouldn't Want to Be Like You. I would be shocked if you were disappointed with that somg.
The Alan Parsons Project has a great catalog. Their first album, Tales Of Mystery And Imagination, is based on some of the poems and tales of Edgar Allan Poe. Check out Doctor Tarr And Professor Fether and The Raven. Alan Parsons used a vocoder on The Raven. Some other suggestions are I Wouldn't Want To Be Like You, Some Other Time, Breakdown, Don't Let It Show and The Voice from the I Robot album. Also listen to One More River and Can't Take It With You from Pyramid and You Lie Down With Dogs from Eve. Another rabbit hole to go down. Enjoy!
My 2 favorite Alan Parsons Project songs are 'Damned If I Do' and the stunningly beautiful 'Days Are Numbers (The Traveller.') I hope you'll give one (or both) a listen.
This is my favorite song of all time. I remember when this came out, it was shown all the time on VH-1 and I watched the video over and over. Such a beautiful song. Thanks for covering it!
Dreamy, yes!! If a song has that dreamy-like quality, I'm sold!! These guys also do another "dreamy" tune called "Time", another great one that will always remind me of roller-skating and "Time" was a couples' skate. Takes me back to those more carefree days...Great reaction!!
You know how a song will start and you already know you love it 3 seconds in? Alan Parsons Project has done that to me countless times. If you want a dreamlike TAPP song, "Time" is amazing and my personal favorite of theirs. Right up Amber's alley for sure. 🤪👍
If you weren't aware, David Paton, Ian Bairnson and Stuart Tosh from the group 'Pilot' joined The Alan Parsons Project. You reacted to Pilot's song, " Magic" not so long ago. Parsons had produced their music. All three are on this track. "Games People Play ". "I Wouldn't Want To Be Like You" both feature Lenny Zakatek on vocals and both worth a reaction by you. Another song "Breakdown" has Allan Clarke from The Hollies on vocals. ❤❤❤
Alan Parsons worked with other artists including producing Al Stewart's Year of the Cat. It was Alan's idea to include the saxophone that was not originally in the song
Alan Parsons also famous for being the engineer on Pink Floyd's Dark side of the moon. His band did several concept type albums. Eye in the sky is a favourite. The instrumental 'The Goldbug' is a good one-Colin Ward
The solo was I beleive by Mel Collins who contributed great sax work in King Crimson and many other English bands during that era. "Dancing on a Highwire" and "Pipeline" are two other favorites from the same album that produced "Don't Answer Me".
Thanks to Jay and Amber! ෴ I love this song as I do several of theirs. My favorite from The Alan Parsons Project is "Time" from 1980. It was used in a beautiful and gut-wrenching movie a few years ago... A FANTASTIC WOMAN (2017). 💎
The Alan Parson Project has a concert DVD out called The Alan Parson Project Live In Columbia. It's probably a decade old but it's great and I think it's on TH-cam. In that concert, Alan Parson himself sings this song.
Yes, Eric Woolfson sang the song but of course sadly passed away in 2009. Just before he died, Eric recorded a solo album of unreleased Alan Parsons Project songs.
There is also a live in the Netherlands! We watch that video every single week, I think my husband may get tired of it, but he does it for me! The traveling group is so awesome! Some people say that Alan Parsons cannot sing, but that is not true!❤❤ Glad you love their music!❤❤
The video is goofy, but they have so many great songs. The first three cuts on "I Robot" are worthy of review. Back in the'80's, we would always play Alan Parsons late in the evening while camping under the stars in the desert (Southern California) . Great memories.
Jay & Amber, you'll love their "I Wouldn't Want to Be Like You" !!! they had a few lead singers- for example Eric Woolfson "Eye In The Sky" and "Don't Answer Me" (you've done both now), Lenny Zakatek on "I Wouldn't Want to Be Like You" and "Games People Play" (up tempo songs) , and Colin Blunstone as well. They are British. You've done Games People Play.
Yes. So many great singers doing specific songs. Lenny on I Wouldn't Want To Be Like You, One More River and You Lie Down With Dogs and Colin on The Eagle Will Rise Again. Allan Clarke on Breakdown. Dave Townsend on Don't Let It Show, David Paton from Pilot on What Goes Up and I'd Rather Be A Man, Clare Torry (who sang The Great Gig In The Sky with Pink Floyd) on Don't Hold Back and last but certainly not least, Dean Ford from The Marmalade on Can't Take It With You. There are more and I think with his background as an engineer and producer that he chose each singer to match the song. He learned a lot working for EMI at Abbey Road. Does anyone else feel the influence of Jeff Lynne?
The rhythm in this song is called the "Be My Baby" beat, created by Wrecking Crew drummer Hal Blaine for the Ronettes song "Be My Baby." Another great song that uses this rhythm is "Say Goodbye to Hollywood" by Billy Joel.
I use to be in a band, and while we did some great tunes, my favourite to play was Wouldn't Want To Be Like You. Oh, and this track was sung by Eric Wolfson, he has such a chill voice.
The sound Amber noticed were castanets ( or castañuelas in spanish and kastagnetten in german) a spanish instrument that spanish dancers use. 💃🕺 APP is always worth to hear more and more. Greetings from northern germany ❤

Old and Wise is another good song by this group. Most everything they done was good. This takes way back to high school. Eye in The Sky was my favorite album back then. Just something to just kick back and listen to and just daydream
Finally a reaction to my favorite Alan Parsons song this takes me back to 1984 a few months before I turn 21 and also a baby on the way well this year I'm going to be 61 and the baby's going to be 40 how time flies but at least this song still sounds as awesome as ever although you do need to react to Prime Time which is another Alan Parsons Project song
Little Easter Egg in the video at around 2:34. As the car is driving and it's light shine on a billboard, the billboard is the album cover Ammonia Album from which this song is off.
I first heard The Alan Parsons Project back in the summer of '78. I was 15 at the time and spending the summer with relatives in Fort Collins, Colorado. I quickly became a fan to this unique type of music.
Did you know that Parsons was the engineer for Dark Side of the Moon for Pink Floyd and a number of Al Stewart recordings. He also produced Ambrosia's first album
This is the sort of thing that a drum machine just cannot replace. Real drums, Real harmonies. Real everything...etc. They all have the dynamics that synthed stuff just doesn't.
These two are the best reactions on YT. I love how they listen and discuss the music, many of them I grew up with. Thank you for your reviews and feedback.
Glad you liked the song. Alan Parsons Project is one of my favorite groups. If you want some more uptempo by them, I'd recommend "Games People Play" or "Damned if I Do".
The Alan Parsons Project released a load of excellent "concept" albums in the 70's and 80's - this song is from "Ammonia Avenue" (the album sleeve of which - a bunch of pipes - is driven past in the video). My favourite album of theirs - despite being their shortest at only 34 mins - is "The Turn Of A Friendly Card": one of the very few non-classical CDs to have a track split into indexes (hi-fi CD players actually used to have + and - index buttons!).
Even I myself, being born in 1955, was too young to vividly remember the film noir of the late 1930s and throughout the 1940s, this terrific comic strip video captures the feeling of those intense dark, romance/violent dramas exceptionally well and was a perfect concept for this equally exceptional song from The Alan Parsons Project!
Amber & Jay, when I first heard of the Alan Parsons Project band back in the day kind of reminded me of the ELO (Electric Light Orchestra) with their music. The APP have great music video's that U guys have to react too. Here goes the list, 2)Sirius; 3)Turn Of A Friendly Card; 4)Mammagamma (Instrumental); 5)Some Other Time With Lyrics); 6)Breakdown; 8)Old And Wise; 9)Sooner Or Later; 10)Let's Talk About Me (Edited Version); 11)Closer To Heaven (Another Favorite). Hope U guys react to all these hits from The Alan Parsons Project (The APP)
You need to check out the collaboration of Jerry Reed and Elvis Presley. Jerry Reed's guitar and Elvis Presley's voice. The tune is called "Guitar Man". A tune that Reed had previously released. Upon hearing it for the first time, Elvis fell in love with it. In an effort to release his own cover, Presley went through a few studio musicians for the guitar work, but none could get it right. So, he brought in the original himself, Jerry Reed to play the guitar. Reed came to the studio and performed this recording wearing his fishing gear.
In High School, I loved all sorts of music, but my two favourites were Ozzy and Alan. Had all of their albums that I could get. So much great music from The Alan Parson Project. Shadow of a lonely man always rings true for me, but Days are numbers, or is it The Traveller.. it has been a long time now.... Light of the World seems religious, but Limelight is not. I think they do a song called The Show Must Go On, but it is nothing like Queen's song of the same title. Old and Wise is another.... just so many great songs with all sorts of emotions stirred by them. Not song will hit you in the right way on every day, but every song will get you on some day, IMO at least.
ohhh..thank you thank you sooo much for reacting to this song. That s my teenage time right there..high school..this song is timeless..thank you again..big hugs to you and family..
