Well here we are in 2024 & it still sounds just as timeless now, as it did then! These boys truly captured lightning in a bottle when they recorded this diddy!!!🎉😮
Yeah the powers that be promote their little projects and spoonfeed the masses what they want.i can think of 30 great bands iv never heard on the radio growing up.parsons got some play but not like some lesser shit bands did
Preach it brother!!! Alan Parsons doesn’t get the credit he deserves. He helped make one of the greatest albums ever DSOTM. Extremely talented man. Lenny’s vocals punch a huge hole in the stratosphere. The only thing better would be if Lenny was a part of the Kyle Gas Project
The diversity of APP's songs always amazed me, and the production / engineering, OMG. Kind of reminds me of Steely Dan in regards to perfection being ultimate and use of session / studio talent that may have gone unheard had it not been for APP's inviting them to be on his brilliant albums. So sad when AP passed. He wasn't that old. We tend to think, at the time when they are around, nothing like that is supposed to happen, they just can't leave us like that. But putting myself in his place I would be happy to know his music has found new, younger fans too. He left an astounding legacy and that's what living the dream is all about, right?
If you like this song and are not familiar with the Alan Parson's Project, do yourself a huge favor and take a deep dive into their legacy! They remain my favorite artists from a time when true masters of the art abounded. Eric Woolfson and Alan Parsons together made music like Bach and Beethoven would have if they'd lived in the 1970's. Pure genius, and pure ecstasy to listen to!
They're one of my favourites; being a toddler when this came out had everything to do with it. Eye In The Sky and You Lie Down With Dogs (I liked how the sound is different when they sing "you're gonna get something but you do what you please" like it's done with a cheaper mic or something. Kid me loved the effects. So basically it was the synthesizers, the notes they use that have that cool late 70s early 89s flair, and vocoder use like in The Voice. (On the inside of the jacket of Tales of Mystery and Imagination, it states that the vocoder can only be found at Abbey Road!)
Agree. Unfortunately they never got the recognition in the UK that they got in other countries. In fact it wasn't until Sirius and Eye in the Sky that the British public started to sit up and take notice - largely because Sirius was just an awesome piece for introducing spectacular events and was widely used. Some science documentaries in the late 70's did use some of the material from I'Robot but generally the band was ignored by the mainstream music industry and radio which was more interested in promoting punk. I went to a special audiovisual screening in a cinema on the release of Pyramid in 1978 and was hooked. Thankfully, the rest of the world took them seriously and they went on to great commercial success in Europe and South America. My personal favourite albums were Turn of a Friendly Card and Pyramid.
there’s just something very intriguing observing Zakatek deliver this masterpiece from the recording booth...this guy’s a natural performer with an outstanding singing voice...superb performance! I always felt this song is among the best of recordings...witnessing the singer with the song is like icing on the cake...what a powerful delivery...very well done to say the least!
A very iconic song for its era. Everything was right from lyrics to rhythms and vocals. It was a magical, musical moment. Ironically, the origin of the lyrics can easily translate from the casinos in Monaco to everyday life. This has to be Benny Zakatek's highlight moment as a lead singer. And Joe South is so unassuming in a very exciting, but short lived, lead guitar performance. Kudos to Alan Parsons for identifying great talent.
I would listen to this going to school on my 1.5h bus ride each morning to school, through winding forests and foothills it was amazing atmosphere when songs like this matched the mood outside. I’ll never forget those moments. Graduated in 09 lol
There will never be songwriting like this again. There needs to be a resurgence of musical integrity with artists today that can write music with substance and meaning unlike the angst ridden repetitive nonsense out there. The Alan Parsons Project has marked an epoch in music history. What a legacy. Enjoy!
Never really got the credit this band deserved. They are just damn good. Period. A string of classics. Been listening to them for 40 plus years. Some of the best music ever released. "Time" is my all time favorite. Takes me back to days long past
Bummer Alan Parsons didn't seem to get the credit in your neck of the woods Steve. I grew up near St Louis, Everyone knew who Alan Parsons Project was and packed the concert halls, was really cool!
Well A.P.P. had several Top 40 hits, plus production-wise, Alan was an intergral part of some of Pink Floyd's biggest albums, I'm sure he sleeps at night! If you are older than 45 you remember when A.P.P. were big.
The charm of The Alan Parsons Project, their darkest sounding songs have no words but their brightest sounding songs have dark subject matter. Seriously, contrast Sirius and Eye in the Sky and you will see.
SpooferJahk. Interesting how they chose different themes for each album, isn't it? As to what you were saying; by far the video that hits me hardest is "Mr.Time", The singer Jacques snd the musicians blended so good. Ironically a rich piece of work; that did not make the charts, due to the material matter! It is a piece of work that will make you say WOW, and wipe your eyes!!! The music and video will move you, unless you're without feelings.
I remember listening to this song around 1979. I am my parents youngest child and had just graduated high school. So true. I remember growing up and hearing this song and liking it, but never really giving it much thought. Now, in my 50's, when I hear songs like this, it really takes me back to a much simpler time and makes me appreciate the great music that came out of this era.
Absolutely. I remember listening to this as a Kid and All I thought was that it was just another pop song on the radio, 20 or 30 something years later I learned to appreciate it.
Lenny’s great no doubt. If I had to pick my own favorite, it would be too tough to call, though. My list would include Lenny (doubtlessly), Colin Blunstone (The Zombies), and Terry Sylvester (The Hollies). Add Gary Brooker (Procul Harum) into the mix, and it quickly becomes a veritable free-for-all, which only speaks volumes about Alan’s knack for selecting high-caliber talent for The Project...

I don't think these guys get enough credit for being a CLASSIC rock band, they had a LOT of awesome songs!
None of the GREATS get their due respect. Another one is GEORGE THOROGOOD. I could go on & on but you get the drift
Heck, they don't enough credit for their live performances either, it was super awesome!
Wowweeeee...memories of my childhood. Im 55 now! Great song
I concur. Tales of Mystery and Imagination....masterpiece! The Raven still gives me chills listening to it.
These Guys Made Some Great Friggin Music. So Many Hits To List. They Need To Be In The Rock N Roll Hall Of Fame.
Breakdown and wouldn't wanna be like you are my faves..and this one of course
Watching the great Alan Parsons work is a treat in itself
there’s just something very intriguing observing Zakatek deliver this masterpiece from the recording booth...this guy’s a natural performer with an outstanding singing voice...superb performance! I always felt this song is among the best of recordings...witnessing the singer with the song is like icing on the cake...what a powerful delivery...very well done to say the least!
I discovered this in 2023, what a fucking masterpiece
Love it, been listening since I was 19 I'm 63 now ✌️♥️
1:10 Was Lenny Zakatek a time traveler ??? Look at that watch??? I don't remember them having anything like that in 1979.
This has always been a great song... Especially when driving on a long and empty road!
HAVE YOU LISTENED TO OLDER STUFF?
I ROBOT TALES OF MYSTERY.
I would listen to this going to school on my 1.5h bus ride each morning to school, through winding forests and foothills it was amazing atmosphere when songs like this matched the mood outside. I’ll never forget those moments. Graduated in 09 lol
On repeat 4-5 time
Fantastic song! Fantastic voice - Lenny Zakatek!
There will never be songwriting like this again. There needs to be a resurgence of musical integrity with artists today that can write music with substance and meaning unlike the angst ridden repetitive nonsense out there. The Alan Parsons Project has marked an epoch in music history. What a legacy. Enjoy!
This song brings me back to my teenage years when things were much better. Great song still today!!! 80s 👍
Times were normal then. We didn't have bioweapon virus Covid 19.
Yup - 80s a better time
Much better days then....people liked each other and wanted the best for each other......bring those days back....love....not hate....
Had just graduated high school and this song was....
🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥
@@denisewalsh6586 Yeah we're starting to crowd out the ruling class, so they decided to do some population control.
Time is eternal. Pun intended. The most beautiful, listful melancholy song. Could listen now stop.
Best Ever Love Alan Parson Could Listen All Day and well into The Night
Well A.P.P. had several Top 40 hits, plus production-wise, Alan was an intergral part of some of Pink Floyd's biggest albums, I'm sure he sleeps at night! If you are older than 45 you remember when A.P.P. were big.
@David Dew true. They were so popular in America that I always thought they were an American band.
This song is sooo dark lyrically, yet so musically uplifting. It's a curious dichotomy.
All of Parsons' music haď really dystopian lyrics. Pretty jarring, when you realized what you're rocking out to!
thejollyjumbuck That's what makes it so good; and knowing how to blend sounds together instrumentally.
The charm of The Alan Parsons Project, their darkest sounding songs have no words but their brightest sounding songs have dark subject matter. Seriously, contrast Sirius and Eye in the Sky and you will see.
I am well aware of that. I've owned "Eye In The Sky" when it was released in 1982.
I'm 17 and I absolutely love this music jeez.... Been listening to Alan Parsons Project for the last 2ish hours straight..
I Robot is my favorite (and first) album by APP, when I was 22 in 1977.
I remember listening to this song around 1979. I am my parents youngest child and had just graduated high school. I remember wondering how my parents were going to manage the transition into empty nesters. Now, I am the empty nester, looking into a shorter future. Mom and Dad, you did great. Thanks for showing me how it's done.
❤❤❤ forgot how much I love this song❤❤❤❤
I guess Alan Parsons has to thank Lenny Zakatek for this Masterpiece. I Love to see him singing. He deserves the credit !!!
Lenny zakatek one of the most seriously underrated vocalists who did such amazing work with alan parsons project but this guy should've lead his own band and he would've been the next greatest vocalist
Nice work. Played it a lot at the FM station I worked at.
The vocals and guitars just make this one of the best rock songs ever
........No.
@@Rayvn7 YES
sick drums too
This song will always be Lenny's song no matter what because nobody sings it better than him
Слушаю с 1980 года. До сих пор великолепно. Браво маэстро Alan Parsons!
И Вульфсон. И Закатек. И вообще вся банда хороша.
One of those all time classics!
fact checked: NO DOUBT!!!
I can't stop watching this! Lenny's passion has me so hooked. Hearing this for 40+ yrs but never saw this video. He made this song a fkn gem!
The 80s was the greatest time of my life
Amen to that.
Have anything to do with tender, beautiful, receptive young women?
my favorite group but the 60`s and 70`s were great in fact there was always some great music in there before (C)rap ruined everything
@@rogerwinter1563 (C)rap! Like it! And the black rappers call hispanics: "Eses" who still listen to their rap.
I know right?! Can you remember them? Grin!
Complete banger that's aged like the finest of wines. Kudos.
Just Heard this on the Radio In Anchorage AK✊🏽😎.
Awesome Song✨🌟✨✅
Cool.
Genuinely think the 80s was one of the best times a person could've been alive, ever.
I agree...the best
@@chrisi830 Well if you lived through it, than probably yes. I did and i most certainly think it was great. The internet for as great as it is, is terrible, I wouldn't want to be a teen in in todays world.
@@revengefullobster4524 me neither
@@revengefullobster4524 The 80s all seemed normal to us. I was in high school in 1981 and college in 1985.
@@epistte same with me, except that i joined the air force in 85.
You grow up listening to this music all your life. You really don't appreciate or understand how amazing or incredible it really is until you grow up. It just sounds different after you really listen to these songs.
So true. I remember growing up and hearing this song and liking it, but never really giving it much thought. Now, in my 50's, when I hear songs like this, it really takes me back to a much simpler time and makes me appreciate the great music that came out of this era.
I AM 71 years and maybe recently know this musicians i love strong Alan parsons
Absolutely. I remember listening to this as a Kid and All I thought was that it was just another pop song on the radio, 20 or 30 something years later I learned to appreciate it.
YOU got THAT right
La música de antes era la mejor
Lenny Zakatek - my favorite voice in the Alan Parsons Project !!!
Friedrich Nowak Couldn't agree more and was going to write something close to what you said so will just agree with you, dude.
Hey @@faschuck good call I agree with you ! Regardless wish I could see anyone ( from the musicians and singers past and present including when Mr. Parsons sings as well) in my lifetime hopefully soon in Canada !
@@squonk86 He is awesome,. Mine was back there playing bass in this video David Paton.
He lasted until the end in 1987.
There is no doubt. Listening to 70's, 80's and mid 90's music were much better than nowadays.
I really enjoyed them. Thanks a lot!
I loved this song when I was 20, then at 30, 40 and 50, now soon 60 even more.
auang
I'm nudging 57 so I'm with you! The crap music of the last 20 years! I always feel sorry for all generations since 80's....they had NOTHING like we had
Holy wow, it’s hard to believe that those who were 20 in the 80’s are now approaching 60!
Thats me too!
Same 😁👈
A early calculator watch....they were expensive in the 80's. Total collectors item today.
I wore mine with pride. Cost me $50 in '82.
Prizes in my math wonk collection, Casio scientific calculator watch (yeah, the big one) and power log slide rule.
Noticed that. Dude was several years ahead of the curve.
The best is that he is also wearing a gold watch on the other wrist :D
Never noticed til I read your comment, thanks
One of my favorites by Alan Parsons Project. Lenny Zaketak killed it.
Abe Bowen his nickname is “the voice”
Lenny the Voice!
Abe Bowen You have awful taste. Lenny is a great vocalist. Absolutely superb. He has the best voice in the business. Nobody but nobody can sing "I wouldn't want to be like you" except Lenny.
Such an amazing song that stands the test of time. As for the lyrics, as an empty nester for the past 8 years, I finally understand them!
It's funny how you keep understanding their songs(any song) at a deeper level when you grow up
Edit: I just turned 20, two months ago
The song is very different and quite dark when you understand the lyrics. I wasn't paying attention to the lyrics when I listened to it in the 1980s.
So True ✌️
You Got That Dead Center!!
Indeed. Goes along with liars especially adults.
you are right kids
Good performance of Lenny Zacatek!
My favorite part is right when he sings the opening phrase of the verse I dont wanna live here no mor I dont wanna stay The smile on his face says he knows he sounds damn good.
Cheryl Ruhr Yes ! and well said ! Great voice and pure confidence !
Exactly!
He is just having a great time doing what he loves! Oh...and he is damn good at it.
That damned album "the turn of a friendly card" changed my outlook on life. I don't know about you but every time I listen to it I feel like I'm living inside it
The best version of this song... with the great Lenny Zakatek!!!
No other song is like it... Pure spirit and to open the mind and its awareness!
Loved Lenny’s voice too. Been listening to APP since the 70’s and listen to all this music right now 💙💜🖤
A lot of people don't realize this was done by ALAN PARSONS PROJECT. I am always happy to remind them and set them straight. Areal gem with a jamming chorus section.
You got that right mos def!
