Hi Dale. The book "London's Underground", by John Glover, explains the reason why the loop is long. Originally, the line to T2&3 was so positioned, because where T5 is, was where LUL thought T4 was going to be. So, it came as a surprise when T4 was announced on the south perimeter instead. That's one reason why the loop is so long, and straight. The other thing is, when building the loop, and T4 station, no materials or equipment, was allowed to be above a certain level, or be near the airport, in order to avoid interference with air traffic control radar. The line was built in such a way, to allow it to go away from the airport for a bit, where equipment for building the line could be, subsequently, removed safely, and securely.
I was bothered that I didn't get it to play in HD-resolutions. Only after restarting YT, I read your message about it not uploading 😅. Anyway happy with a new video, thanks again! Take care.

Great video as always, Dale. I'd love to see more of you starting/ending your shift, picking up your train or stabling at the different sidings and of course, if you get the chance to, some more unusual moves.
Almost every train I pick up at the start of my shift is on the platform at Cockfosters. The same when I end they are almost always in the depot at Cockfosters. Should any thing interesting happen I will try and film it. I think with the new timetable that starts at the end of the month we have a couple more trains that I would bring in to service from the depot.
Excellent presentation. Thank you. I am amazed that the management allows filming due to security. But I,m not in the British transport sector. But we are grateful for your wonderful insights ❤

Before I forget, belated best wishes to Sarah for her birthday last week! 🥳 Dale, might the 'parrots' near Hounslow Central have been parakeets? There were quite a number of them near to where I lived in London - they are very colourful, but noisy little beggars! Oh, and yes, you're spot on in that the 'T' boards denoting the end of a speed restriction do indeed stand for its "Termination". Anyway, thanks for another enjoyable video with your inimitable commentary and amusing quips. I think this one goes to show how the service can recover from delays when conditions permit, though I know it's not always straightforward.
Are you looking forward to the 2024 tube stock? And what would you miss and not-miss about the 1973 stock? As a commuter I think I will miss the dc motor sounds and the tones from the train when it's still.
Amazing Video! Funny enough I was on the piccadilly line that day heading back from Heathrow after spotting an Airbus BelugaXL :) The train I was on got terminated at Action town for some reason not too sure why. Have you ever gone west onto the east bound platform at Hatton cross & changed ends and went back east? That happened on that day too.
Thanks Dale! Why don't TFL simply rename Heathrow T2&3 back to its original name of Heathrow Central? Without a T1 anymore, the current name sounds odd!
The T board is something London Underground got from mainline railways. A sign of a good driver is one who anticipates signals and drives at a speed to keep the train moving. Passengers may comment to themselves if a train is slow but as long as it keeps moving between stations they don’t complain.

On the mainline, you are supposed to let the rear of the train clear a TSR or PSR before you up the speed again no matter what length it is. On the underground it seems you can power back up as soon as you it the termination sign. Is that true. Dale?
Im under the impression that the District is ATO thru Earls court with coloured signals now inactive. Does this mean that Piccadilly trains have to be on separate tracks to the District at this point?
We run on separate tracks from the district any way. The only part we share with them now is Acton Town to Hanger Lane junction (between Ealing Common and North Ealing)
Curiosity question: I was watching a driver's view video of one of our Melbourne Australian trains going through our city loop, and noticed that we have fluorescent lights on the ceiling that allows the driver to see ahead of the tracks. I was wondering if the lighting in your tunnels are sufficient for you to see any obstacles, or how you'd feel if your tunnels had better lighting like ours. Or do you think more lighting might hinder your job?
I prefer the dark. The signals are so much easier to see. When the lights are on in the tunnel it can give me a headache pretty quick with all those lights passing by
I may have my directions wrong so sorry. At 43.38 you pass a District train with Ealing Broadway lit up. But is it not going in the opposite direction to you, so going to Upminster?
At that point the district train is heading west towards Acton and Ealing Broadway. I am heading east coming in to Hammersmith heading back through central London
When you join you get given a line and depot to work at. You can put your name down to move to any other line or depot. You go on a waiting list and have to do at least 2 years (I think) at your depot and line before being eligible to move
On the last video, did you say the new 2024 stock train will arrive at the end of september and if you can, could you probably film it passing a station if you get lucky?
I won’t be in the uk when it arrives. At the moment it is due on the 30th. However I will try and film it if I ever see it out. Which may be a while as I think it’s only going to run out of normal traffic hours
Hey Dale and everyone, just for you to know: The First 2024 Tube Stock- Train has been transfered from the Siemens Works at Vienna, Austria, to the Siemens Test-and Validation Center in Western Germany at the last Saturday (19. of September). It is coming closer to London 😁
You hope you can make it to the toilet. We can use a toilet at any station if we have too. We try not to and only use the toilets at the terminating stations as it can cause a delay
I'd like a mint thanks Dale, I can trade for continued waving at you from the platforms and reminders about Turham Green should the lights not be working. Let me know if you're interested :)
that is the main reason you can´t live stream, there would be riots at the stations, people running around with coffee. (also no internet). ... a follow up question. are the wi-fi in the new trains so good that you could theoretically live stream ?????? of course it had to be a delayed life stream in care of stuff.
Hi Dale. Still enjoying your videos. Question; re signal failures. If a signal goes green-red-green, as you mentioned, would you stop anyway just in case and call it in? Cheers, Neil.
If you are able to stop then yes. It all depends on the speed of the train and distance to the signal. I would still report it even if I was unable to stop
No is the short answer. Apparently most platforms are long enough. Any that are not the train can stop further in the tunnel. With the front set of doors or last set not opening

On the last video, did you say the new 2024 stock train will arrive at the end of september and if you can, could you probably film it passing a station if you get lucky?
I won’t be in the uk when it arrives. At the moment it is due on the 30th. However I will try and film it if I ever see it out. Which may be a while as I think it’s only going to run out of normal traffic hours
been 2 days. Guess we've given up on getting anything higher than 360p ? Doesn't make much difference in the tunnels anyway :)
It’s just this video. For some reason it didn’t upload in HD. Hope it’s just a one off
One question Dale, I heard the new 2024 stock will be joining the Piccadilly line next year. Just curious when will they start training the drivers?
Some time next year I would guess.
It’s due to arrive on the 30th of this month. If all goes to plan
sorry to ask. what happens if you get the squits?
You hope you can make it to the toilet. We can use a toilet at any station if we have too. We try not to and only use the toilets at the terminating stations as it can cause a delay
Hey Dale, what’s up with the video quality as it’s only showing at 360 dpi maximum?
I am sorry. I don’t know why it didn’t process up to HD. It just seems to be a one off technical issue
I'd like a mint thanks Dale, I can trade for continued waving at you from the platforms and reminders about Turham Green should the lights not be working. Let me know if you're interested :)
I think that’s a fair trade. See you there tonight
On my way boss!
☕- Please pardon the delay
You are most kind. Just what I need to wake up
😂😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊 Good job
that is the main reason you can´t live stream, there would be riots at the stations, people running around with coffee. (also no internet). ... a follow up question. are the wi-fi in the new trains so good that you could theoretically live stream ?????? of course it had to be a delayed life stream in care of stuff.
I don’t think the new trains are WiFi enabled. However they are rolling out phone service in the tunnels
Hello
Love ur videos there really intresting can I get a shoutout is possible ? Dom from Durham
Of cause you can. Give me a couple of weeks or so
@@dalecharmantravels8057 thanks also are they extending the platforms for the new trains ?
No is the short answer. Apparently most platforms are long enough. Any that are not the train can stop further in the tunnel. With the front set of doors or last set not opening
@@dalecharmantravels8057 that’s fair enough we have that in Chester-le-Street for the trasnpennines, you will have to come and try the brand-new metros when they get put in service
