Fascinating to see how the trespass incident had a knock-on effect at Acton Town. I also really like how you keep the passengers informed. Keep up the great work. Cheers.

Lucky you are at a platform. Last time there was a signal failure at acton, i got held in the tunnel between pic circus and green park on a warm day. We are lucky because we got air con in the cab but the poor passengers had to sit for 20mins in the hot train.

Dale, we know that you like the deep, dark, pipes. I can hear the excitement! Why do I love watching a dark screen with 1 or two signals only, and when I cannot see red or yellow colours? I think it's the movement into the unknown. Just me waffling on.

I find it strangely relaxing watching at the last red before Acton - but then I'm not stuck on the train! I guess we've all been there (on BR or LT) crawling along or stuck outside a station, so this gives a really good insight into why problems can occur, albeit miles from the orioginal incident. Thanks for filming this Dale.

Many thanks, Dale, for this look at the Piccadilly line during service disruption - I guess the maxim is to expect the unexpected!
It took me back to a time when I travelled from Arnos Grove to Acton Town on a daily basis for several weeks, and it was not uncommon for trains to queue on the approach to Acton, though that was in the morning peak so it is perhaps slightly more likely then. I don't think we were ever "sat sitting" at any signal for quite as long as you were on this occasion!
Pleased to hear that you've officially adopted the term "you lot" to refer to, erm... "us lot" - it's taken in the warm and friendly spirit in which it's intended 😊
Hope you're well, and that your knee and your back are behaving themselves!

Bless you for trying to defend a position that doesn't need to be defended in regards to the shoutouts & this is not a criticism! It's very sweet of you honestly 😭 I feel like many would like a vocal shout-out, but let's be honest, you are in charge of a train with yourself & many others on board, therefore a lot of the time the job at hand is definitely more important.
So I feel like you could potentially note down a name & comment that you could carry with you, in a sort of 'comment of the week' concept- anything that pops out to you whether be a question or birthday shoutout etc, and combine with on-screen shoutouts as well? Less stress for you, and everyone will feel like they've at least been seen.

Funny, you should mention trespassers in the tube. Because on Saturday, the last day before I went to vacation. I had an unauthorized in the tunnels too, which held me up 40 minutes, and my lunch. It was my leader train ahead of me that encountered the unauthorized in the tunnel, and i'm being held back two stations away in Brooklyn and with the power cutoff from Control Center. Eventually, they got the guy out of the tunnel and arrested, and we was able to continue to Manhattan with delays, as you well know. Both of us know how things like that can suck!!😅😅😅

  • @bishwatntl
    @bishwatntl 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

You make a good point - if I read "severe delays", it means very little as I don't know (and don't care) if the next train is train 100 or 230. What matters to passengers is "how long till the next train to my destination?"

As a heavy rail train driver of 19 years and now a Driver Manager for same heavy rail company, I think that your T boards for speed restrictions is the same as heavy rail and is a Termination Board only the Tube version is white board and heavy rail is a yellow board. Might add still drive trains when I can. But that is few and far between now. I love to get a cab ride but I know how difficult they are to get these days so your vids are the best thing. As a result of the initial delay, Dale was constantly driving up to red signals that turned green as he approached. That means that the trains were the minimum allowed distance apart. Put it another way, the line was running at maximum capacity. So paradoxically the passengers got a better service than normal with shorter waiting times on the platform. (Until the line exceeded its capacity and ground to a halt.)

Hi Dale. When I was on the buses if I was running late and had a long break I could still take it ( called taking a full meal relief ) or I could take 30 mins and put a docket in so I get paid for lost break time. Same with finishing late, if I finished 10 mins late would put in a docket for 10 mins overtime ( it adds up over a week/month ). Does the tube do anything similar? Anyway, thanks for video.

Are the indentations on the right, just after 02:55 the ventilator shafts on the corner of Bounds Green Road and Nightingale Road? I always try and look for them after Bounds Green in your vids, but it's hard to see in the dark!

Another great video I can feel it, also would like a shout out if you want in the next video. Also I took a train ride yesterday in Australia and the train was moving so slow because of 2 trespassers (I think that’s what happened) on the tracks which was so annoying. Speed was like 10mph.
Edit: was brompton road disused station always walled off when it was disused because I remember on my journey on the pic line in 2022, there was a disused station that we passed in the tunnel that wasn’t walled off and you could see inside the station. I took the pic line from Acton Town - Leicester Square btw. Do you know if that was the station?

Hello mister Dale.

I think this setup is better than the wireless mics you got, this way we can hear the train sounds better and still hear you just fine. When you tried the wireless mics it was not really possible to hear the train.

here in Copenhagen when the timetable goes down the drain, they'll start skipping stations or reversing halfway to get back on schedule. When it's really bad they'll drop to 20 minute service (since all our trains normally run every 10 minutes), but because that involves sending drivers home and telling others to not bother showing up, it's something they only do as a last resort, also because they get charged for every train not running on time

4:12 taking it personal is normal. It can, if you pardon the pun, derail your entire day. And when it happens, all you can do is sit there and wait.
Passengers can walk away. They can find some other way. People like you or I who work on the trains… we can’t.
The subway line I work on here in New York, the M, has a roughly 1 hour 14 minute one way trip.
Tuesday last week, multiple problems stretched that out to two hours.
My shift ended about a full hour late that night.

Passengers don’t always understand that some delays are nothing to do with the drivers or train companies. Stuff happens

I have been watching a couple of your videos and found them quite enjoyable. This recent one about the long delays on the Piccadilly Line was something different. Why there are some dimwitted trespassers wandering about in the tubes is annoying. There's no room in the tubes, trespassers can easily get killed by the power rails or passing trains because of the tight clearances. I believe that's the reason why the power had to be shut off so the police could catch the troublemakers. Although the trip led to a few delays, the longest ones were near the end of the line at Acton Town where a District Train was also held up for several moments. I liked the brief explanations on why some trains were short turned or had to be delayed so the system was getting back to normal after the trespassers incident. I have been on subways in other cities and being delayed on a train in between stations or waiting at a station is no fun! None the less, it is part of the happenings when riding on subways and it was fun being with you on this journey. Thanks for sharing with us.

I remember a time our Victoria line train got delayed because of what we thought was a red signal. The driver informed us it was because something fell onto the tracks at our next station.

Hi Dale. Always good to have a rant, why do people do this? They know they will get caught or kill themselves by touching the live rail! As long as there are idiots this will always happen! Thanks for your trip this week a really good inside view of when things go wrong😊❤
