Northamptonshire Boundary Walk | Part 14 | Braunston to Welford

This is the first time we've been back on the Northamptonshire Boundary Walk for some time. We left the lovely village of Braunston to walk through rolling green fields. Unfortunately we had to divert to the road to dodge a herd of boisterous cows, and had a break in the village of Barby.
Some good tracks and bridleways took us through Crick to Yelvertoft, but the path out of the hamlet of Cotton Clay has been lost - there are just locked gates with no signs and no way through.
We picked up a bridleway that took us to the canal - the Northamptonshire Boundary Walk keeps switching sides along the canal on the map, but when we tried to find the path along the right hand side it was non existent.
Although it's not shown as a right of way on the map, there is a path on the left hand side of the canal all the way up to the road, which we'd recommend following.
We were exhausted by this stage as it was a warm day and we had spent much of our time route finding, so followed the road into Welford and the end of the stage.

Good old Numptonshire! Braunston is a lovely village, I know some nice walks in and around there. Good idea to avoid the cows, they looked lively! Play it safe. Ha! Baileys! You had amazing weather, I miss the sunshine. Fab thatch art cat. Good luck contacting Northants Highways, not the most responsive when it comes to rights of way. Lots of nettles I see. I wonder what that white bird was. Well done on making it to Welford despite the detours. Good effort ladies! xx

Thanks Rachel - yes I didn’t bother to contact them in the end, shame though as some of the other paths were so good!
I’ll be sad to finish the NBW there have been some lovely sections xx
