    Which of the five have you been guilty of?! Let me know! Also, what other questions do you have that are GoPro related? Any other videos that you want to see coming up soon?

      SUPER HELPFUL!! I make chin mounted POV MTB videos to recap trails, and capture the fun we're having. Your tips will help me situate myself at the tops so that the riders I'm filming talking will be front lit...sun behind me.
      Your tip to "treat it like it's a big camera" is also a reminder to move my head slowly from person to person as riders are talking. Some of the gold from the rides is in the funny conversations, and I have to fight my instincts not to turn normally. The issue is...now I have "Blair Witch" footage, and I can't the transitions out without also cutting out bits of the conversation. No bueno.
      I also need to work to get more "off the bike" footage and different perspectives, which relates to your "five second" clip minimum.
      Also...one tip I got years ago might help with your "stabilized walking" shots that you were doing by holding the camera cupped in your hands. If you turn the stick upside down and let the camera hang down, and hold it out in front of you at arm's length, that will help stabilize it just by utilizing the physics behind gravity wanting to pull straight down on it.

    Great tips David, that's exactly the way to use a GoPro and get cinematic like footage 🔥. I don't treat it as an action cam and people are always surprised on how good my videos look. But i must admit i am guilty of the last one, i actually forget that it's so small and that you can literally put it almost everywhere and get really unique perspectives with it. My angles are pretty standard, i'll take the note to work on getting more creative angles on my next videos ✌ Cheers!

    Great tips as always. One of the tricks I use when backpacking or hiking, because the terrain is so rough and uneven, is to attach the camera (using a snapmount and a GoPro pole mount) to one of my trekking poles up by the grip, this can be done with a selfie stick as well, then turn the pole upside-down so the camera is on the bottom, then hold the top of the pole, thus "Floating the camera on the bottom. I use this method for low angle shots, but you can raise up your arm and create chest high shots as well.
    I am not guilty of any of those things because I watch David Manning videos...

    Im always learning and i thought i was across most of the settings. However i went underground canyoning in Wales and ran 60 fps and a quick shutter. Footage was useless. Made a video but it was so dark, the processing made so much noise but learned a valuable lesson that day. TBH i think even a big camera would have struggled. It really shows how amazing the human eye is! Fanks David.

  • @MichiganRocks

    Hey David, I make rock hunting videos on beaches. The GoPro is excellent for getting smooth videos of walking. It's also good at keeping the horizon pretty level which is really important on a beach with a built in level in the background. After scanning the horizon, I go in for a shot of a rock I just picked up, but the GoPro is awful at close ups. Is there any camera that is good for self leveling shots and also close ups?

    • @DavidManningvlog
      @DavidManningvlog  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, the GoPro has about a 12in minimum focusing distance, which means that anything closer than a foot won't be in focus. Have you looked into a Sony ZV-1? That's a killer camera for what you're doing! Not quite as stabilized as the GoPro, but for macro shots of the rocks, it would be awesome!

I have the GoPro 11 and i purchased the handlebar mount from Go pro to mount my camera to my trekking pole for a thru hike next March.
