      I'm pretty sure it's a crime here in Brazil as well, but I don't think I ever saw any law being really enforced on that front. Which explains why PS2 game piracy was so rampant here. Hell, I even played BOTW for the first time only because my pc can now run CEMU, cuz as much as I love Nintendo, there's no way in hell I'm buying a Switch just to play Zelda.

      Piracy is such a non-issue. Oh no the multi-billion dollar corporation makes a tiny bit less profit, THE HORROR! It's also been observed that most people who pirate, end up buying the game, if they like it or can afford it.

      Even downloading roms isnt necessarily illigal, as long as you have bought a actual copy of the game you want to emulate, what's illigal is due to copyright laws, which falls on the rom sites themselves as its viewed as freely distributing games without a licence to do so. But it's impossible to stop, avery rom site that gets taken down, another one pops up somewhere on the web.

    • @QuartzRoolz
      @QuartzRoolz ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@adamduffield7782 thats... not at all acurate. it Illegal to download roms *regardless* of if you own a physical copy of a game or not. legally those are 2 different copies, and while you paid for one, you "stole" the other.
      not that it matters, outside of situations where people are taken to court on highly inflated charges to make a point, individual users are almost never targeted by companies over piracy as its a very large number of people and is ultimatly a futile effort. they will go after the actual Rom sites, as bought up... but honestly? If game companies want to make it so rom sites and rom piracy go away, *they should sell their god damn games*
      In the words of Gaben Himself, Piracy is a service problem. PC games Piracy is Super low as compared to console game piracy, because pretty much every game ever is availible on Steam or GOG for super cheap. the only big cases of PC Games Piracy are typically abandonware titles... which the only way to play them is Piracy anyway as they are not availible online Officially.

    Even if I were to give Nintendo the max amount of credit, I wouldn't say "they're waiting for a case to go after Yuzu." If they were smart, they'd study its code for future emulation/backward compatibility prospects. Don't they use Dolphin's code for their Gamecube emulation or something? I forget but I could have sworn I heard something along those lines.
    Meanwhile, holy crap! "Let's make emulation illegal"?! Why?! I can see no pro-consumer reason for such a stance at all, no matter how hard I try to think of one. The only reason I can see is "Nintendo doesn't like it" and I don't care about that. You can't even argue the idea from an economic standpoint Emulation doesn't really put a dent in game sales. Or, at the very least, no causal link has been proven. That's true especially when you consider a good few people that emulate Switch games buy the game, but then play it on their PC for mods, better resolution, etc.
    I love how he says Steam Deck buyers sit around doing nothing and don't play videogames. I'd say this guy is far more of a Nintendo simp than an actual gamer. I know, "no true Scotsman" territory, but he started it.
    Oh yeah! And wasn't he also always saying "you can't be playing Switch games on your PC! You're lying!" yet now he's threatened by emulation? Ugh, logical inconsistency lv100. I'm almost starting to wonder if he's trolling at this point...

      Emulators are a product of reverse engineering hardware and writing code that makes your computer act like said hardware when running certain software. That is legal, even if promoting emulators might not be the best of optics.
      ROMs/ISOs are copyrighted by the original publisher and are illegal to distribute without the copyright holder's permission (which is unlikely to be given).
      Emulation is legal so long as you either play homebrew or personal backup copies, though this may vary based on your jurisdiction. Disclaimer: I am not a lawyer.

    Listening to people equate piracy and emulation in 2022 is one of the stupidest things, no one can tell me what to do with MY COPY of a game, nor is it even written in the conditions of use that has to be strictly on a certain hardware, in 99% of countries emulation is legal as long as you have your copy of the game and the emulator does not use code stolen from the console in question (which no longer happens because they tear down the emulator almost instantly). And well, if you're more concerned about people not paying for a game than playing that own game is that you have a name, FANBOY...Jesus...Is it so difficult to understand? I prefer to play at 1440p or 4k at over 60fps with texture packs on my pc than at 720/1080 30/60 with sawteeth that would cut my soul if they could go off the screen. Is it REALLY that hard to understand? I pay for the game, just like any standard consumer, if I can play it at better quality than what company X offers me, why won't I be able to do it if I am protected by law? PFFF, enough internet for today, I'm fkn tilted. IF YUZU OR RIUJINX WERE ILLEGAL, NINTENDO WOULD HAVE SACRIFICED THEM TO THE GOD MIYAMOTO YEARS AGO. So why is it still there? Playstation lost many lawsuits against ps1, ps3, psp emulators, even a ps1 emulator made by apple itself, without asking, without Vaseline, they simply announced it as a "gaming" option for mac and fuck playstation, and won the lawsuit, soo...bruh moment. Don't like emulators? Fine, but if they're done the right way they're not illegal in any sense, not even copies of the games themselves.
