The Steam Deck is so successful that is simultaneously made a resurgence in handheld gaming systems and game emulators. They originally intended it to sell maybe a few hundred thousand units but it’s been top 10 on the Steam chart since release.
To be fair, Nintendo did a pretty damn good job with the Switch OLED, all things considered... it's just that Valve did an even BETTER job with the Deck OLED.

For the few games that support cross-save (take a save from one system to another - witcher 3, divinity original sin 2) - Play on the PC at home, take the switch on the go.
The Steam Deck OLED offers more value for the same price by offering faster wifi, a SIGNIFICANT storage increase (which is also faster), the better screen AND better battery unlike the switch OLED which was just a screen change for a higher price and had like 32GB extra storage
It's pretty clear that people get a Switch primarily for Nintendo games rather than handheld gaming, while that feature is something that is no longer a hard sell for Nintendo. The Steam Deck however is attracting people BECAUSE of its portability, but also because of its open endedness and the fact that it is a solid entrypoint for PC gaming
You can emulate switch games on a steam deck if you know what you're doing, so there really is no reason to buy a switch unless you really like nintendo.

I remember when the Stean Deck was just releasing I was on the fence about it. But after seeing reviews I ordered mine when they restocked. So far it has been one of the best decisions I have made. Currently playing though the Trine series and really enjoying my time with it.

Hi! I honestly don't really like the Switch. I like Switch _games,_ but I'd rather play then on anything but the Switch. I could talk endlessly about how much I hate the build quality and the performance. The features are pretty bad, too. The _ONLY_ feature it has over the Steam Deck is instant recording. And maybe HD rumble, but who genuinely cares about that?

Even on a Switch Lite screen, the game looked rather distorted and generally low-quality. While the game's general demands aren't too high (a TUF Gaming A16 with a Zen 3+ APU can comfortably run the game at 1080p60 high), the Switch simply lacks the resources to properly offer higher levels of performance and graphical fidelity.
I own both my switch OLED is full of JRPGs and all of it are physical games, but deck in the other hand I only have 4 games which is Arkham knight Dying light enhanced edition RE2 remake and RE4 remake.
Update 4yo hardware that doesn't address major criticism of the platform and costs an extra $50. Vs updated 2yo hardware that addresses all the biggest issues (and more) for no extra price.

That's funny because I own a Steam Deck for when my computer is rendering animations and I can't play games on it, or when I want to bring over some of my PC games to a friend's house, and I really have no reason to own a Switch because it doesn't have any games I want to play on it that I can't just already play with better performance on my PC or Steam Deck.

I have no problem saying that the steam deck completely replaced my usage of the switch. The cheaper games on steam, better hardware and not having to rebuy my whole library is great. Compare that to my joycon drift, sub 30 fps and expensive games on switch, i am honestly thinking of getting ROMs of the few exclusives i am still interested in and emulating, but i do feel bad about emulating current gen games that are still available for purchase.

There's no world where Blizzard/Activision is worth more than Valve. If Valve were valuatated at 7.7 billion at an IPO, it would rocket up to several orders of magnitude more. Steam literally prints money. Steam makes 30% of all COD sales on Steam, for instance.
Every gaming console is sold at a loss because Xbox, Nintendo, and Sony all expect people to buy more than one game for the console and they make up the difference with game sales. Valve is no different from them when making the Index or SteamDeck. The Index sold VR games that Valve then profited from.

Every gaming console is sold at a loss because Xbox, Nintendo, and Sony all expect people to buy more than one game for the console and they make up the difference with game sales. Valve is no different from them when making the Index or SteamDeck. The Index sold VR games that Valve then profited from.
