    This was my favorite of all the videos you’ve done so far. Thanks for including all the cleanup. I start every day putting away tools and sweeping the floor while I drink my coffee and consider the day’s work. It’s very relaxing to end the day watching someone else do the same while I enjoy a beer. Thank you!

    It also illustrates that one does not need a humongous lathe to do production work to make a living. This is a valuable demonstration in several aspects. Having the proper skill and gouges, also illustrates that a shedload of every tool made, is not required. All so often the keep it simple keep it smart is the answer. No music required. Thank you for sharing your experience and techniques-priceless. Greetings from Tasmania Australia 👍😁🇦🇺🦘

    A very good look into the life of a production turner. I compliment you on your excellent tool use, especially the broom and dustpan. ;-) I look forward to see how some of those ash pieces turn, but especially the (95%) chestnut. Many thanks. Oh, and I hope you weren't injured when that bowl flew off the chuck!

    Nice view of the production process. I find it satisfying to go through production speeds for roughing and create a pile of pieces. It's different from being super smooth and particular when finishing a piece, but has it's own rewards (like almost no dust and the delightful smells of tge green wood.

    Very interesting video. When you rough turn your plates I was surprised to see you leave all that mass in the center. Do you think that doesn’t crack because you mentioned it is mostly quarter sawn? What sealer do you use? I am very interested in your screw chuck, did you make it? Is it a lag screw in a piece of wood? Thanks for making these videos!

    • @tomislavtomasicwoodturning
      @tomislavtomasicwoodturning  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hello Hi... Thank you for comment and watching 🤗
      I left that mass as its much easier to remount and faster, and beacuse its on clean sidegrain part of the plate there should not be any problems.... Quatersawn surtantly helpes as its more stable part of the log....
      For this batch I would't use any sealer, but usually I use white glue diluted around 15% water.... Screw chuck I did make myself...there is a video maybe a week or two old on how I made it....lag bolt works great for this....
      If there is anything more I could help out feel free to ask 👍

    @6:10 I've been curious about the vertical "stripe" behind your lathe, now that you're rough turning wet blanks before a new dusk catcher, I understand where it came from.

    Once again, thank you for sharing your process, honnestly and fully. To be able to look at the reality of your workflow is so important for me. You really let us get into your day to day as a profesional, and not as a youtuber, and the earned knwoledge is huge! Haven't been abel to work with such green stuff yet, but looks fun (even if messy). Do you also finish pieces right out of the green with microwave or is it something too difficult to sell compared to stable and dry ones?
    Cheers, have a nice new week!

    • @tomislavtomasicwoodturning
      @tomislavtomasicwoodturning  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Thank you Boris, these will be twice turned after completely dry but will make few dosend pieces dry in microwave and finish..... I'll do a video as well 🤗
      When I have wet stock like this I like to make really thin bowls so I'll do aswell a video on how thin I dare to go😅 should be fun

    wow what a work rate ! Great work and you really demonstrate the skills of a production turner earning his living by his skill and professionalism.very impressive. Can I just ask what jaws you are using to hold the large tenon on your platters. I only have the 48mm shark jaws on a VM100 chuck

    • @tomislavtomasicwoodturning
      @tomislavtomasicwoodturning  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you very much 🤗 its just practice practice and more practice.... I have one set of shark jaws a bit smaller I think then yours( its 40mm I think) and the others chuck is 100mm jaws..... My next chuck will probably be step jaws..... It saves time not to switch chucks in this rough out process

    Tom, I’m sure it varies, but about how much time do the roughed out bowls need to dry before final turning? Are the put in a certain place where it dries faster? Thanks for another excellent video.

    • @tomislavtomasicwoodturning
      @tomislavtomasicwoodturning  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you, I dry natural without kiln and it takes around 6-8months to dry to be stable enough.... If I can help it I leave them for over a year.....

    Thanks for letting us see more of your process.
    I'm curious about your lathe. You replaced your original lathe with a larger Record Power model and then this one appeared. I thought this one was to be a secondary, teaching lathe but it's the only one I see in your current videos. Did you get rid of the previous one or is it still there, just not in use where the camera is placed?

    • @tomislavtomasicwoodturning
      @tomislavtomasicwoodturning  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you Randy for watching and comment.... The original plan was for this lathe to be a teaching or backup lathe, but as opportunity open to get a new lathe in exchange for videos,and I started to suffer more and more from dust allergie I had to do something about dust collection.... Only possible way was to sell Regent and buy dust extractor......
      Eventual this will be a teaching lathe and there is a plan next year to get a slithly bigger lathe..... But this one Works excellent for now..... 🤗

    • @victoryak86

      No expert here but I’ve seen several very good turners do this. Richard Raffen does this as well I’ve seen. I’m sure Tom will be able to shed more light on the reasons. I’ve wondered about it as well.

    • @missteeturns

      I've started using my 1/2" spindle gouge for the outside of small bowls, I find the shallower flute doesn't clog up as easily as on a bowl gouge.

    • @tomislavtomasicwoodturning
      @tomislavtomasicwoodturning  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I do use both...in beginning I use spindle gouge,and as it was dull and I was lazy to sharpen I switch to bowl gouge.... Usually spindle gouge is cheaper tool and shavings fly of the flute a bit easier.... But I use bowl gouge almost exclusive on inside of the bowl or plates
