  • We all have this kind of thin stock laying around,so why not turn it into beautiful cross grain box?!
    Anyway, I'll hope you'll enjoy and sorry for inconsistent audio, that's my biggest problem and soon I'll work out the solution.
    Enjoy

    Your efficiency is epic!! Man I love to watch you spin! I’m getting to be about half your speed now and looking to keep improving but you and Richard are my standards by which I judge myself. I always forget just how humble and beautiful beeswax by itself is! I have some blanks of oak stair tread about 1”, 25 mm thick right now and I’m going to duplicate this process as exactly as I can step by step and see if I can reproduce your results! Thanks for inspiring me yet again! Thank the lord I am retired and can do this when I feel good enough. Had major gut surgery and have reasonably severe back issues to deal with but what can you do? At least I feel I accomplish something when I go spinning! God bless you sir! Take care! Scott

      Hi Scott, really sorry to hear about surgery, hopefully you are ok now, just take your time on the lathe, don't need to rush it and enjoy shavings ☺️

    Another one to add to my try and do list. I do have some recently picked up small oak logs to try this project out with. It will take me a lot lot longer to do but I will follow your video directions closely.

    Very nice bowl, simple design that is quite elegant. The design with the lid taller than the box turned out well. What a great way to use cut-offs; that's the cool thing about both wood turning and resin casting, it's really hard to find material that one can call "scrap" anymore. Once again, just watching you turn provides great instruction in tool techniques.

    Question Below, but first thanks for the turning video of this beautiful but simple small box. I also liked your comment about colorful socks -lol. Question, when melting/spreading out the beeswax do you use something like Boiled Linseed Oil on the rag to help spread and smooth the final finish?

    • @tomislavtomasicwoodturning
      @tomislavtomasicwoodturning  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you sir 😀
      Usually I do add oil but you can work beeswax around turning without.... Oil will help with spreding but also with hard to reach details

    Really nice box. I was actually planning to make something similar for a long time already.

    Thank you for sharing another nice little project! Great way to use cut offs from another project.
    I’m fairly new to turning so this may be a silly question ….. I noticed you have a collar on your tool rest shaft. Is this set so you can easily drop the rest to where your chisel hits the wood at the center?
    Thank you again for your videos 🤠🇨🇱

    • @tomislavtomasicwoodturning
      @tomislavtomasicwoodturning  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you Randy very much, you are correct. This banjo has a sort of big travel so I reduce that height a bit so Its much faster to get to close enough height. Its accually a bit lower but I did get this to be a temporary solution until little muscle memorie kicks in but started to like it so I'll probably make one for the video as well😉

    I personally love oak, it's grain, color, hardness, the smell when you work it. I still think Oak has a reputation as being somehow "common" when it's quite uncommon. People always seem to covet what they don't have readily at their disposal and overlook the wonderful things they do.

    Hi Tomislav, Thanks for your thoughtful instruction. Is the oil you use with the wax plain mineral oil or BLO or?
    I have Live Oak in my area and I love the swirling grain. My challenge is to keep it from cracking.

    • @tomislavtomasicwoodturning
      @tomislavtomasicwoodturning  ปีที่แล้ว

      On this one is some woodturners oil, I haven't read content but I think its BLO but without metal dryers
      You can use what ever you have on hand, mineral oil or any other oil

    I've noticed you switch between scraper & gouge without any adjustment in height of tool rest. The camera angle, I can't tell what your height is?
    Are using the scraper below center or are you using the gouge above, or both?
    I learn so much from you - interested in more. Thanks

    • @tomislavtomasicwoodturning
      @tomislavtomasicwoodturning  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you sir 🤗
      For gouges I don't bother that it has to be in milimetar precise height, so for me it works on Center or above... For scrapers again I don't watch the tool rest, instead I focus on the angle between top of the scraper and portion of the wood scraped, that angle needs to be less then 90
      Hope it makes sense 😅

    • @donntisch365
      @donntisch365 ปีที่แล้ว

      @tomislavtomasicwoodturning that explains it.
      1. More question please.
      When doing a shear scrap, with the blade tilted, does the angle still have to be less than 90 degrees or could it be 90 or slightly more? Does the tilt of the blade & the direct with the wood turning change the rule?
      Thanks a million
