OMG, how broad are your shoulders😂🤣? Most yoga mats are 61 cm wide. This should be enough as you always should place your palms exactly under your shoulders.
Thisssss, a lot of mats claim grippy and non slip but they really mess up my practice. I'm tired of online mishaps so i only buy if i can touch ot before. Thank you Charlie for all your helpful videos
Have had a Manduka Pro for several years now and strongly recommend it, at least for something to have in your home. It's quite heavy so it's not great for taking with you to a lesson but it's got a nice thickness and it supports you but without feeling too soft and squishy, which really made a big difference to my knees not hurting when on all fours. It's also a lot easier to stand on something that feels sturdy. It really feels like it'll last me for the rest of my life too.
Stay away from the pop flex / blogilates ones, just a heads up! Super over priced and if you leave it in the sun it will shed material. My manduka pro can be left in the sun no worries. The blogilates also have a foul off gassing smell, my friend had to air hers out in the garage for 3 days!
@jamie6506 Manduka pro has a lifetime guarantee. So yeah its expensive but not over-priced. Incidentally not something I'd recommend for beginners since you need to be pretty committed to make the expense worth it (even though I absolutely adore both of mine)
Yes. My practice greatly improved when I upgraded to a B Mat. My poses finally "stuck" made holding various asanas much more effective...not fussing with keeping my feet in place. Thanks for your channel and your advice!
But Manduka isn’t made of natural rubber. It’s made of an eco-certified PVC and their website claim that Mandukas are either 100% or 99% latex-free. On the other side, Lotuscrafts have a few natural rubber mats and a few PVC, but their cork mats have a natural rubber base. The same for jute ones. If you have latex allergy, it doesn’t have to be limited to contact dermatitis. You can also react to the smell and it can cause some breathing problem. Just something to be aware of.
Thanku mam. I followed your tips fir handstand. Now i can stand for 10 sec in JUST 5 days from zero sec. First day was disaster for soulder and back when i stand against wall, my whole body was shaking.
Thank you, thank you ! Charlie. I am in a dilemma at the moment because of these mats! 😂 They can be very expensive, if not too expensive. I am currently using a cork mat with alignment and good but I am really sweaty, dripping and 5'8", tall for an Filipina female. Still I slip a bit with a 5mm cork.
Thank you! I have a rubber/heshion mat. It was non-slip but became slippery after a few years. I decided to give it a good scrub with steel wool scourer. Tadah! Back to non-slip
So helpful! I really love the popflex active mats. They won’t shed if you also use it with tennis shoes. I’ve had my first one for 7 years now and it still looks perfect!
Don't go too thick or you'll feel unstable. Being able to feel the ground a bit is super helpful. Also I love wider mats because I have super wide shoulders.
I love my B Yoga BMAT which is rubber. It’s got a great thickness. It’s quite wide and long which I like even though I’m not super tall, I just like the extra space so my face is no where near the floor when I come to the ground on vinyasas 😂 It’s extremely sticky! Some might find it even too sticky. It forces me to pick up my foot and place it - it’s so firm that I can’t be lazy and just slide my feet around. I have another smoother cheaper mat though for gentler practices.
As someone else said, dont buy one that's too cushiony, cause that makes keeping your balance harder in some positions. So what I do for my flatter mats is just to roll up a towel or use a pillow if I feel like my knees are complaining (although honestly, my knees got more used to the weight over the months)
I just had to invest in a new mat 😅 I was starting to get better with my splits, and I am way too tall for a normal length mat 😂 yay me on the split progress I guess 😂🙈
I really should change my mat but I keep forgetting to 😅 one thing that's worked for me is doubling up my mat. The one on the bottom for me is literally a long, thin-ish carpet (thin for a carpet, that is) and is there to provide adequate cushioning and grip on the floor. Then the one on top is an actual yoga mat. The great thing is that the bottom mat likely won't need to be replaced, but the additional cushioning makes all the difference imo (plus I feel like it doesn't really matter what the top mat is, as long as it's not slippery)
My mat has these raised bumps in a super-regular rectangular pattern. The downside: when I look down at them, my eyes can't focus because they force my vision into a Magic-Eye puzzle cross-eyed state that's very disorienting. I'm looking for a flat mat or one with a somewhat irregular pattern that my eyes can stare at without losing depth perception and focus
Bruh I can get a yoga mat on Amazon where am I supposed to get straw? And I'm gonna be picking it out of the carpet every time I put it down too? 0/10.
Can you suggest some yoga for saggy breast for tightening uplift reduction my sister is suffering because of saggy huge breast if you could suggest some affective yoga
oh my god you are 5 ft....what! You look taller....I'm 5ft too but I am on a bit fatter side I appear to be lot shorter than my actual height.......Can you suggest some poses to increase height, I'm 23 could I be able to increase my height?
Hello honestly I don't think you can increase your height if you are 23, I say this because I've spent my life hating being small, doing everything I could to grow, but sometimes you just have to accept it.
That line up tip with the dots is genius! I'll have to get a mat like that. Also I'm 5'11 and when I finally got a mat that was long enough for me it was such a game changer.
This is excellent. Now I understand why I am constantly unhappy with my mat. I definitely need a new one
I’m glad this was helpful

Beware that the thicker (and softer) your mat, the less support you feel with balance asanas
Yes! I have to move to my hard floor for those. I thought it was just me
I needed this information 😮
Thank you! I was using a really squishy mat in the gym the other day and my balance was like twice as bad as normal 😅 Gave myself such a hard time!
I love videos like this as well as spiritual morning routines and other yoga tips ❤ thank you for your content
Thank you for watching my videos
Once again Charlie strikes and gives advice few people knew they needed, but many people will be thankful for.
You forgot the width, I found that most of the mats are not wide enough to be comfy to my both palms.

good to know thanks for the heads up
idk what those are made of but natural rubber mats can't be left in the sun in general
Bro, how are you gonna call her mats overpriced when the one you recommended is double the price?
@@jamie6506probably because it doesn’t shed material when left in the sun or offgas 🤷♀️
@jamie6506 Manduka pro has a lifetime guarantee. So yeah its expensive but not over-priced.

Jade is my all time favorite! I’ve used many over the years, and jade is top notch IMO
Yes. My practice greatly improved when I upgraded to a B Mat. My poses finally "stuck" made holding various asanas much more effective...not fussing with keeping my feet in place. Thanks for your channel and your advice!
Jadeyoga is best, 100% natural rubber. Manduka also. For non-rubber mats (much cheaper!), I like lotuscrafts best. Cork is also very recommendable!

I think that maybe the dots will only work for a few body types. It doesn't make sense that they would be 'one size fits all.'
My opinion too. Your body measurements should be the only alignment points to follow
Can you please make a longer video on mats?
So helpful! I really love the popflex active mats. They won’t shed if you also use it with tennis shoes. I’ve had my first one for 7 years now and it still looks perfect!
Yes, that was helpful. Thank you!
Happy you think so
I got a liforme mat because I’m tall and their grip is amazing. I can’t go back. Yogi Bare is a close second.
100% agree ☺️
What???? U r 5 feet tall??? I m too but u surely hve great proportions which make u look much taller😁
Honestly I think it’s just good angles. I’m very short in person and I wouldn’t say I have good proportions 🙈

Have never seen an alignment mat, learned Iyengar and so form is very important.

Hi Charlie dear, u do a great and amazing job on your workout videos and your shorts videos. Keep up the good work ❤🤗🌹
Love my Fable mat & have been using it for Pilates and Yoga 3 years now! Great grip and feel 😍
Absolutely, fable is one of my favourites I have two of their mats
Could you please recommend some brands who make good yoga mats. Thank you 🙏🏼
Yogi Bare make the best mats. I've tried them all and they're the best :)
For thickness sometimes, I've started placing my worn yoga mat below my newer one for like extra padding too
Excellent😂!

I really really love mine too, by Ladina Yoga, which is also sustainable! Cannot think of using another brand anymore
Have you tried a cork mat? How was it?
I always wondered if there are variations in yoga mats. Now I know.
Hey Charlie! this is really helpful for a beginner! what is the mat you are using is this video? the one with the dots? thanks

I get sore on my knees very easily when I am on my knees, besides thickness, anything to take note of the material of the mat?
The blogilates mat is rlly awesome and fits all these specifications
Is it long? I’m a tall person.
I’m reading terrible reviews about this brand 🙁
Is it true it messes up too much your balance? I'm looking for a thicker mat but don't want to waste money since shipping is already expensive for me
