Congratulations Mike I’ve been following your channel and got to say Mr Mike love your opinions! By the way tough you’re born in Germany or Netherlands 😂! Africander mate ! Keep up with your good work!
To give an idea of how much I value your work: I never watch your videos on PC, phone or tablet. I sit on my armachair and watch you on my large screen as I do for movies or good series. That's you and TGV only. Let me differ on a minor point. Quartz and other non mechanicals can be nostalgic and reminders of simple times too. I personally am fascinated by electrostatic and electric movements like Accutron ones. If I want to reconnect with my teenage years, all I need is an F91W or similar simple digital watch. Quartz has no planned obsolescence, and can last for a long time like my father's piece that I now treasure as much as his mechanical ones. Congratulations, your channel deserves to grow more and more.
I completely agree with you. A high-quality quartz watch brings back fond memories of my childhood in the 70s and 80s. While I do own two mechanical watches, my preference lies with quartz, and it's what I wear most often. In a world where new mechanical watches are released almost daily, I have a deep appreciation for a vintage quality quartz or a state-of-the-art quartz like a Grand Seiko or a The Citizen. I understand the allure of mechanical watches, but I feel a stronger sense of nostalgia for the era when accuracy and technology were paramount. Additionally, I have a fondness for super thin watches.
I don't understand the enjoyment ppl get from Nico. I enjoyed his first 2 tierlists, but at this point, all I can see from him is calculated provocation and teasing to fish for virality and attention of famous ppl on the internet. He saw what works with influencers and "experts" on the internet when it comes to other sectors of lifestyle matters/- commodities and has brought it to the watch world. I mean, I can't say it doesn't work, I'm just stunned ppl don't get tired of him
👏 I did. The partnerships with some dodgy outfits was the last nail in the coffin. He’s a loudmouth overweight drunk - I hope he gets help. He’s lucky he hasn’t been arrested in DXB for his inability to not swear. And memorizing ref numbers doesn’t make him an expert. He’s an expert at selling watches to people w too much money at silly prices.
couldn't have put it better! sure, he might've been a breeze of fresh air to the otherwise at times conservative/snobby watch community, but appealing contrarianism must still be tastefully and creatively done to reeally be pioneering
Yes. The host here is too polite, he doesn't like controversial situations. But Nico is nowhere near to entertainment: He is the embodiment of provocation, agressiveness, vulgarity and fakeness in the watch world, just as Trump is the embodiment of vileness in politics. There are others that are very insulting, vain and arrogant, without being violent: The Time Teller and Federico are two examples. In general, for watches, I try reading books, serious magazines and websites, or i watch professional and respectful channels like this one. The democratization that came with platforms like youtube has a dark side, for sure, and influencers are mostly as bad as the plague, but a lot of smart people who didn't have a voice before can now express themselves in different platforms, which is extremely positive.
I love your videos just the way they are. Frankly, I don't even think you need a B-roll -- I just want to hear you talk about watches and watch brands.
Thank you for taking the time to make quality content (that we get for free). The ecomics of being a You Tuber. Most of us have no idea if the time, cost, and mental commitment to content creation. As a recreational artist, creating something “of value” brings me reward. Si thank you for making those sacrifices so folks like me can spend time with you each week. I enjoy your “voice” and being genuine. You being you. I do wish there was a way to thank you but “virtually” buying you a beer or a coffee or dinner… it is nice to thank folks more meaningfully. All the best! Doug
Very kind of you. And yes - quite a bit of work goes into these videos from coming up with ideas, researching, scripting, filming to editing and also commenting. TH-cam revenue isn't going to replace my day job salary any time soon (if ever), but it does help fund a decent microphone a camera and what not to keep things going 😀😀
Glad you mentioned sameness of many 'mid tier' brands. My BB58 set a benchmark (value, quality, looks) and I find very little sparks my interest either below or within a reasonable range above. Some watches I like for example the Santos, Aquaterra and could afford it but I don't feel against the BB 58, they represent value for money.
You sir, are a joy to watch and listen to. The antithesis to Nico. I enjoyed watching him for a brief period and then became bored and irritated by the showmanship. You have never disappointed and I doubt you ever will. Congratulations on a well deserved milestone.
Your last point is the most articulate thing I have heard about why to where a nice watch. It also tells us the one thing we can never get back and to use it wisely. Watching your channel and the insights you share is always time well spent. Thank-you Mike and congratulations on 25k!
I didn’t care about watches when I was using them as tools that were given to me by my Air National Guard unit to use while flying C-130 missions. I used them until I broke them and asked for another. Now that I fly a desk more than an airplane I have fallen into the watch enthusiast rabbit hole. Much like your friend, it is a special event every morning when I put on my mechanical watch. I believe that as the world around us becomes more and more digital and screen based, the mechanical watch’s enchanting charm increases. I don’t need another screen to look at on my wrist.
Precisely. Moreso when you buy the watch the transaction is over. Buy a car or anything electronic and you are in a long term codependent business relationship with a company that feels free to change the deal at any time.
As a loadmaster on the C-141A, nothing gave me greater delight than stopping in the Kadena BX and getting the Glycene Airman. Got me started on the watch journey and it's highly practical
Congrats on 25k & may you reach many more. I enjoy that you not only articulate precisely what you think about the intricacies of the hobby, but do it in a way which encourages others to expand their thinking in a similar way. I don’t always remember to click the upvote on every TH-cam video I follow, but for some reason I do with your channel. Remember, read, acknowledge, and heart-favorite. Cheers!
I enjoy simply listening to you speak so masterfully, precisely and clearly with great foundational support of data, facts, trends & opinion. You’re simply so well spoken that it’s quite understandable that you have 25k in subscribers! Congratulations! Bravo!
I absolutely love your comment about nobody dictates what should be on your book shelf. Any troll commenting on the background of your video should be ignored, they are sad. The Mondaine clock, multiple flashy belongings in the background is for others, I like your style. Smart, and articulate...
Congrats on the subscriber milestone.❤ I've thoroughly enjoyed your content these past couple years. You played a part in me purchasing the Cartier Santos Large in white. It's been 6 months and I'm still in love with it, like the very first day. Wishing you many years of success and happiness. Cheers! ❤😊
The problem with 99% of watch "influencers" is that they dont give you any context on the watch. They all just spew their own opinions on a watch and move on, Nico infamously comes to mind. They are alot more akin to sports "hot take" personalities then credible reviewers. And the problem is these watch influencers are everywhere on social media. Very very few actually give you the history of that watch or brand. Or break down the movement inside or the thought process of the design. You are one of the few that do and I value that. At the end of the day, its about whatever watch makes you happy and you enjoy wearing. I have bought many watches that these "influencers" hate and I have loved them.
I don’t know how your channel popped up in my feed because my typical channels cover music, books, math, and naturalist topics but what a great addition. Since I subscribed I see vids pushed from the other yt watch channels and I’ve not made it through one. Urban Gentry seems well done but something is off with the pacing. Your videos have a good pace, feel conversational and informative. I’m now looking at watches and why I like them in a different way and considering my motivation and their merits in a different light.
From day one you have been a breath of fresh air: both eloquent and intelligent. I deeply enjoy what you bring to the world. Thanks you for the time and effort you invest to share your thoughts. It is greatly appreciated.
Congrats on the 25K subs. You will hit 50k before you know it. I appreciate your content. In regards to trusting watch topic hosts on TH-cam, I have one piece of advice: Never buy a watch because it's iconic, a classic, historically relevant, the new hot thing, etc. ONLY BUY WHAT YOU LIKE!!!
I also wear my IWC Mark XVI with pride and awe every day. I am a watch geek but can't afford to have another pricey watch at this point in time. My other watch is a G shock, which is massively useful... but nothing feels more special that that IWC
Mike, you are the best matter of fact channel on TH-cam. I learn something new on every one of your videos. You are probably right when you state that the demand for Rolex outstrips supply by a large factor. You were also right about Rolex micromanaging their supply chain all the way to the AD’s. But you didn’t answer (or avoided) the obvious fact. The supply in the AD’s showcases is barren. At the same time, the inventory on the grey market is well stocked. Some watches even have their factory stickers attached. So how do you explain this observation? A supply shortage I understand. But there is no supply shortage, just look around and you know what I am referring to. Note: if Rolex gives a damn, they could produce more Oyster Perpetuals, an entry level model, to appease more first time buyers. Yet Rolex does nothing.
The funny thing is that the #1 function of the Apple Watch isn't even telling time, it's the button that lets people locate where they left their iPhone. Why do I wear a mechanical watch? Because every day, I log into my computer, read emails, spend eight hours fiddling around with Excel spreadsheets, then to relax in the evening, I will read on my eBook reader, stream something, or play a game on my PC. I know this is entirely something that exists only in my own head, but I find something comforting in having something analogue, made entirely of gears and springs, on my wrist. It does one thing, and does it well, without an internet connection. It recharges when I wear it, and not when I put it down.
Baie geluk Mike, you continue to surpass yourself with each consecutive vid. Great stuff. I like a mix of data 80%, entertainment 5%, and the rest insight. I only watch three watch vids per week now. Yours is one of the three. Thank you for your time and effort. Soon, you will hit 30,000. Bis Spater, Chris
The wisdom shared on this channel is priceless. You answered several questions that I have been pondering about. I've often thought that there's a limited number of watches for me (think 3-piece collection). But that's just not realistic considering my interest in watches. Thanks for letting us all cut ourselves some slack.
I find your video extremely informative while being interesting at the same time. I really appreciate the intellectual level you bring to this topic. Thanks for the good work.
Fantastic video. You are hands down the best we’ve got these days. Thanks for your work making such enjoyable, interesting content! I always look forward to it.
Here we go! Thank you for answering my question Mike! I hope you still get to enjoy your South African heritage from time to time even though you are far away from your home. You changed the picture in the back from a jet to a biplane! It looks great! Seiko is loved because we all had one when we were younger. They have however priced themselves into a higher bracket and they rely heavily on brand heritage. When you see what you get for what you pay most Seiko's are a hard sell for me. Everything that's worth buying is also a limited edition and that sucks. If everything is limited, nothing is. Sorry got off on a tangent there haha! Awesome questions and great answers!
Your channel has not only provided more insight and helped me make better decisions around watches, but to improve my vocabulary and critical thinking skills. Wonderful content!
Watches are one of those spaces where art and business meet and I appreciate how you deconstruct both appropriately: calling out foolish business moves while recognizing taste is subjective and taking care not to trample the preferences you may not agree with.
Simply brilliant, glad to discover your channel. It’s really nice to see a fellow south African doing something far better than most competitors in a such a specialist field . Nice one
I must admit that when I first viewed one of your uploads i thought you were a bit dry and reserved. Not that i enjoy the likes of Archie Luxury or anything but i was used to the unboxing ritual, the views on wrist a la Just One More Watch etc .. but over the last few days I have been binge watching your videos. I have learned so much about the watch industry in that time. You bring a different and more interesting perspective to watch collecting which I am enjoying immensely. I can only liken the difference between your channel and most others to that between a tabloid newspaper and a broadsheet. Thanks from your latest subscriber.
@Mike.thiswatchthatwatch Maybe lol. Mike, as I clearly value your opinion could I please ask you a question? Why is Bulova such an underrated, overlooked and unloved brand? I am a fan and have the Lunar Pilot and the Super Seville which I think are beautiful in design, ridiculously accurate and really affordable. Why in your opinion do they get so little respect? Thanks.
Advice for newbies: I thought I would stick to affordable watches as I thought tens of thousands of dollars on a single watch was ridiculous. Problem was that I could have easily bought a few $10-15,000 watches for the amount I spent on so-called affordable watches. Currently in the process of selling (at a loss) a lot of my collection to buy some grail pieces. Best advice I could give would be to take more time to work out what style you like and then be more considered with purchases.
That last line about something you own, enjoy, and wear says it all. Most of us have scaled back expectations. No house, nice car, or grand retirement Before migraines drove me from work I settled on pens. Easy to store and transport, etc. Now I can barely use them. So encourage watch folks to make beautiful and accessible products. A market exists
Best watch youtuber. You are spot on, sir. I like how intelligent and competent you are. We, watch enthusiasts, appreciate our time (both literally and metaphorically).
I do love my Seiko. The one I had when I was 12 still works today, and I've bought two more in the last couple years without hesitation. Good price points and honestly, I've never had any problems with them.
I prefer your conversation to heavy videos. As a migraineur I don’t need the busyiness. You are prepared so the intellectual approach drips with information.
On the part about “can you trust TH-camrs”. I posted on a video on The Urban Gentry the other day and I said, “I clicked out of a Nico Leonard video to come here to watch TGV because I’m part of the notification gang”. People in the comments were roasting me for watching Nico. And my response is exactly what you said. I watch Nico for entertainment. I watch TGV for watch history. Both channels are great, but they have different purposes.
Nico is a trained watchmaker. I have no doubt that he does actually know what he's talking about. I've seen some interviews of him on other channels where his personality isn't dialed up to 13. His knowledge though isn't in any way what drives his channel. It's the personality, the flash and the drama. Which I enjoy in measured doses 😀
I’m a watch enthusiast, but I treasure my money more than watches, so I just enjoy one or two nice pieces that I really enjoy above all. This way my choice for watch in the morning is easier.
This was a very interesting talk. Your last point about durability in a world of (sometimes planned) obsolescence makes sense. Even an Orient watch will probably last a lifetime. A decent mechanical watch is thus a remarkable machine.
I think you generously understated the impact of “influencers” with regards to allowing individuals to retain objectivity. I do think your audience is less susceptible but many people will be influenced by the views, rational or otherwise of an influencer - hence why the marketing spend is so heavily weighted in this area.
Fair point - It does come down to buyer beware on the one hand and consumer protection on the other. I personally have no issue with selling stuff, using your channel to build a business. What I do have an personal issue with is undeclared collabs / paid advertising. It needs to be honest and above board 😀
I appreciate your "clinical" analysis of watches. The same I love the community that @Trapvision3d has built around watch collecting. There are differences between each channel and they should be (as you stated) looked at in context
Great take on watch TH-camrs. Although it does skirt around or miss motive. For some it’s money, either through views or sales. With this in mind do I trust their opinion? No, but I don’t need to as I’m not paying (through superchats or buying or whatever) other than my time.
this guy knows what he is talking about he is most truthful watch critic youtuber i hope he talk about why nomos not doing something about the lugs of their watches.
Sorry for asking you an ‘Impossible Question’ but, Thank you 🙏 for answering it! It’s true, you don’t learn anything from avoiding potential mistakes. Saving for ‘The Big Watch’ comes after years of buying cheaper Watches and gaining knowledge and experience in your journey through the hobby. Unless you’re very wealthy and can afford to make mistakes buying expensive Watches I guess? I guess my issue is I don’t like selling Watches so, I try not to make mistakes (despite making them like us all). I have tried to buy Watches I thought I would stick with but, have some I need to sell because I want to dip my feet into another genre of Watches. I think I’ve matured into the dress Watch genre now so, I’ll have to confront my hatred of selling Watches. Great points Mike and thanks again for answering. Congratulations on the 25k mark brother and it will only be a week or so until you’re at 30k! P.S. Are you going to Watches and Wonders? If so I might see you there. ✊
Many excellent points, thank you. On the Rolex question, I’ve an alternative answer. China. It hasn’t been that long that China has been a significant market for Western brands. That many Chinese have the money to purchase a Rolex is a relatively recent phenomenon. So, for Rolex to meet this relatively new market, they would have had to increase production years ago. They didn’t, hence the scarcity. As Rolex brings new factories online, scarcity will ease. We are simply a far more prosperous plant, which is a good thing! All the best.
Don‘t trust influencers. For example Jenni Elle isn’t into watches. Her husband is selling online courses “how to buy a Rolex”. He’s using her because women get more clicks than men. He even said it once to me. So in the end the watch doesn’t matter they just want to make cash
I totally agree and it seemed obvious to me from the start...saying that I wouldn't have said 'No' to servicing her hairspring movement....well that was before she went and got 'tatted up'.
I saw his masterclass. It’s an absolute joke! He wants 250€ and then tells you to become friends with the AD. If you ask Jenni about this she’ll block you…
@@mijnbuisje Not sure about that. Just check her engagement rate. For example Britt hast 100k followers but way more views on her content compared to Jenni. So maybe her followers are not active or fake… same on instagram. 60k followers but sometimes only 100 likes. For promotions you need at least 5 percent active followers. Looks fake too
Another great video and love the hand motions for the 3/4 plate and rotor. I could totally imagine some standard ETA movement in my head when you did it haha!
Learning from your own mistakes is good. Learning from other's mistakes is even better. It is more efficient. We only have one life. It's up to the audience to decide whether they want to learn from the mistakes of others or learn from themselves. Your insights and learnings from mistakes is very much appreciated.
@@Mike.thiswatchthatwatch will be at the main expo on Saturday too and, of course, I’ll say hi. I have a great respect for your work. Cheers and see you soon!
I'm super biased in some ways, I suppose, but I don't pretend to "own the truth". I call things as I see them and then people can make up their own minds and if they can convince me of something else, I am open to that as well 😀😀
Congrats again, and I really enjoyed all of the questions and answers. You make even what could be an utterly prosaic question into something of interest.
My advice to new collectors is to save save save and delay purchase as much as possible. There are tons of watches to discover so don’t be hasty. Lastly buy brands and models that hold their value. Yes! You have to buy watches you “love” but its like saying to young kids to follow their passions instead of getting a degree that will help them get a stable job and career.
I really, really dig your vibe, man. I didn't think it was possible to have a watch channel with exactly ZERO pretentiousness but you pull it off with aplomb. Please keep it coming. I could listen to you talk watches for days on end. Thank you.
I recently got into watches and stumbled upon your channel. I'm thoroughly enjoying your videos. Your last comment/story got me in the feels. Keep up the good work.
I love your content and I’m a new subscriber. If i can make one suggestion would be, please include pictures of the watches you are speaking of, whenever possible (…and yes, i do realize it’d be a lot more work for you). I’m just a becoming interested in “watch collecting” and I’m learning so much from you! I feel it’d be super helpful to have a visual reference to accompany your thoughtful commentary. Thanks
Thanks! I do generally try to include the pictures for reference, but in Q&As I generally put a little less effort into the visuals to keep it more "off the cuff". Glad you heat that you like my videos 😀😀
@@Mike.thiswatchthatwatch I see your point on “pictures on Q&A’s”. Either way, you do a great job and your content is excellent. Keep up the great work…I look forward to your next video.😀
I’m a firm believer in the One Watch Collection; I currently have 17 of them, along with 11 three-watch and 4 five-watch collections. Here’s to restraint!
Another interesting video. Definitely becoming my go to channel. I am also, a South African living in the UK, so a bit more fortunate than you since I have a local supplier of biltong and Ouma rusks on my doorstep. Keep your videos coming. Best wishes, James
I think the real reason for the success of the Apple Watch that is often overlooked is that it can be whatever you want it to be. You want it to be a golf watch, you can do that. You want it to display your pictures on the dial, yep. You don't have to look at any other brands because you can bend it to be whatever you want it to be.
The most articulate watch youtuber. Congrats on the 25k!
Super, super kind of you 😃
I‘d say it‘s a tie with Tim Mosso 😊

Since I subscribed I see vids pushed from the other yt watch channels and I’ve not made it through one. Urban Gentry seems well done but something is off with the pacing. Your videos have a good pace, feel conversational and informative. I’m now looking at watches and why I like them in a different way and considering my motivation and their merits in a different light.
Glad you choose to click on that first video 😀😀
From day one you have been a breath of fresh air: both eloquent and intelligent. I deeply enjoy what you bring to the world. Thanks you for the time and effort you invest to share your thoughts. It is greatly appreciated.
thanks 😀
Congrats on the 25K. This channel is destined to be number 1.
Don't know about that, but very kind of you 😀
Congrats, Mike! The growth of your channel is no surprise, given the thoughtful and engaging content! ❤😊
Thanks 😀😀😀
Congrats on the 25K subs. You will hit 50k before you know it. I appreciate your content. In regards to trusting watch topic hosts on TH-cam, I have one piece of advice: Never buy a watch because it's iconic, a classic, historically relevant, the new hot thing, etc. ONLY BUY WHAT YOU LIKE!!!
Buy what you like - Exactly 😃😃😃
Agree on the Biltong and Braai points 100%. May I humbly add that Boerwoors is the greatest ‘sausage’ ever invented.😂 Congrats on 25k!
Thanks you kindly 😀
Bumblebee in the back and we've got the best voice on TH-cam doing his thing.
lol 😂 Pretty sure the voice is Andrew Morgan 😀😀
I also wear my IWC Mark XVI with pride and awe every day. I am a watch geek but can't afford to have another pricey watch at this point in time. My other watch is a G shock, which is massively useful... but nothing feels more special that that IWC
Thank you for best watch channel Mike!⌚
So kind of you!!!! Thank you very very much 😊😊😊😊😊😊
Easily my favorite watch TH-camr.
Thank you 😃😃😃
Mike, you are the best matter of fact channel on TH-cam.
Thank you kindly 😀
The funny thing is that the #1 function of the Apple Watch isn't even telling time, it's the button that lets people locate where they left their iPhone. Why do I wear a mechanical watch? Because every day, I log into my computer, read emails, spend eight hours fiddling around with Excel spreadsheets, then to relax in the evening, I will read on my eBook reader, stream something, or play a game on my PC. I know this is entirely something that exists only in my own head, but I find something comforting in having something analogue, made entirely of gears and springs, on my wrist. It does one thing, and does it well, without an internet connection. It recharges when I wear it, and not when I put it down.
what a fantastic video, my fav watch content on YT. No BS, straight to facts, data and grit
Thanks 😉😃
Baie geluk Mike, you continue to surpass yourself with each consecutive vid. Great stuff. I like a mix of data 80%, entertainment 5%, and the rest insight. I only watch three watch vids per week now. Yours is one of the three. Thank you for your time and effort. Soon, you will hit 30,000.
Bis Spater, Chris
Thanks a ton 😀
The wisdom shared on this channel is priceless. You answered several questions that I have been pondering about. I've often thought that there's a limited number of watches for me (think 3-piece collection). But that's just not realistic considering my interest in watches. Thanks for letting us all cut ourselves some slack.
Congratulations Mike, thoroughly deserved!
Thank you so much 😀
Congratulations. You are my go to watch expert. Insightful, independent and unbiased opinions. Now for 100K
Thanks a ton. Very kind of you - Let's see where it goes 😃😃
one more subscriber here....I think this is the best watch channel on youtube.
Welcome aboard 😀
Congratulations…a meteoric ascent! Keep up the varied, high quality content.
I find your video extremely informative while being interesting at the same time. I really appreciate the intellectual level you bring to this topic. Thanks for the good work.
I appreciate that! - 😀😀
As my wife says: "People really enjoy when you go 120% nerd." That's usually when she tones out... but hey... 😂😂
Fantastic video. You are hands down the best we’ve got these days. Thanks for your work making such enjoyable, interesting content! I always look forward to it.
Very very kind of you, thanks 😃
Your question was top of my list 😃😃 Thanks for sticking around for all this time 😃
@@Mike.thiswatchthatwatch My pleasure brother! Hope you are having a fantastic Easter weekend!
Excellent job with the channel. You are one of my go to channels due to your analytical approach and serious delivery.
Very kind of you, thanks 😀
Your channel has not only provided more insight and helped me make better decisions around watches, but to improve my vocabulary and critical thinking skills.
Wonderful content!
Thank you kindly 😊
Watches are one of those spaces where art and business meet and I appreciate how you deconstruct both appropriately: calling out foolish business moves while recognizing taste is subjective and taking care not to trample the preferences you may not agree with.
Simply brilliant, glad to discover your channel. It’s really nice to see a fellow south African doing something far better than most competitors in a such a specialist field . Nice one
Thank you very much 😀
I must admit that when I first viewed one of your uploads i thought you were a bit dry and reserved.
Maybe dry and reserved is actually your thing and you just needed me to get you to realise?
Thanks a ton for watching 😀😀
@Mike.thiswatchthatwatch Maybe lol. Mike, as I clearly value your opinion could I please ask you a question? Why is Bulova such an underrated, overlooked and unloved brand? I am a fan and have the Lunar Pilot and the Super Seville which I think are beautiful in design, ridiculously accurate and really affordable. Why in your opinion do they get so little respect? Thanks.
I hit the like button before I even watch the videos, because I know I’m going to like them and I don’t want to forget to do it. 👍🏼
Thanks for contributing .😊
Tim Mosso is the perfect balance between knowledge and entertainment for mine (in fact hard to think of anyone who knows more from what I’ve seen).
That last line about something you own, enjoy, and wear says it all. Most of us have scaled back expectations. No house, nice car, or grand retirement
Before migraines drove me from work I settled on pens. Easy to store and transport, etc. Now I can barely use them. So encourage watch folks to make beautiful and accessible products. A market exists
I look foward each weekend to sit down & watch your videos . I learn so much & thanks very much
Best watch youtuber. You are spot on, sir. I like how intelligent and competent you are. We, watch enthusiasts, appreciate our time (both literally and metaphorically).
Thanks - kind of you 😀
I do love my Seiko.
Also, show me another guy who can spout off reference numbers as quickly as Nico. Maybe it’s partly editing, but the dude knows his stuff.
@@MattSeesGrayImagine thinking he doesn't have cue cards and a script
Nico is a trained watchmaker. I have no doubt that he does actually know what he's talking about. I've seen some interviews of him on other channels where his personality isn't dialed up to 13. His knowledge though isn't in any way what drives his channel. It's the personality, the flash and the drama. Which I enjoy in measured doses 😀
@@MattSeesGray Tim Mosso
Congratulations! I've enjoyed your videos sir. Thank you for your efforts.
So nice of you 😉
I’m a watch enthusiast, but I treasure my money more than watches, so I just enjoy one or two nice pieces that I really enjoy above all. This way my choice for watch in the morning is easier.
Best watch channel on TH-cam. Content actually contains sustenance.
Thanks 😃
This was a very interesting talk.
Your last point about durability in a world of (sometimes planned) obsolescence makes sense. Even an Orient watch will probably last a lifetime. A decent mechanical watch is thus a remarkable machine.
Congratulations on the number of subscribers milestone.
Thank you very much! 😀
Congratulations! Here's to 100k. Greetings to you and yours
Here's to dreaming 😀😀🙏
All the best Mike-have a great weekend 😎!
Congrats 🍾 btw
Thanks - And pretty sure I saw you as first, before the vid got blocked 😃
TGV is the benchmark for me…but you run him a close second for me. Many thanks. Great vids
You’re a very thoughtful man, thank you.
You’ve gained a subscriber
Welcome aboard - thank you 😀
Great point about the Quartz crisis pushing the Swiss brands upmarket. Never realized that was largely the impetus.
Congrats! It is a pleasure to listen to your comments; the most coherent & honest description of the hobby of watches.
Thank you 😊
man, such a sober analysis. Im learning so much. thanks
You are welcome 😀
I appreciate your "clinical" analysis of watches. The same I love the community that @Trapvision3d has built around watch collecting. There are differences between each channel and they should be (as you stated) looked at in context
Glad you enjoy my approach 😀
Thanks!
Thank you very very much 😀
Great take on watch TH-camrs. Although it does skirt around or miss motive. For some it’s money, either through views or sales.
With this in mind do I trust their opinion? No, but I don’t need to as I’m not paying (through superchats or buying or whatever) other than my time.
Fair perspective. If you know theirs a commercial element to it, you get to choose for yourself 😀
this guy knows what he is talking about he is most truthful watch critic youtuber i hope he talk about why nomos not doing something about the lugs of their watches.
Kind of you. Thanks 😃
Thanks - and yes. China is also part of the puzzle for sure 😀😀
If you ask Jenni about this she’ll block you…
Fully agree
Also way too heavy on Rolex content and the worst clickbait thumbnails. Despite all that she has well over 300K subscribers.
Looks fake too
Congratulations on the 25k. Your content is always amazing.
Thanks a ton 😃
Another great video and love the hand motions for the 3/4 plate and rotor. I could totally imagine some standard ETA movement in my head when you did it haha!
Right on 😀
I watch your videos since a couple of weeks. Congratulations for 25k subscribers I am now one of them.
Welcome aboard! 😀😀😀
Learning from your own mistakes is good. Learning from other's mistakes is even better. It is more efficient. We only have one life. It's up to the audience to decide whether they want to learn from the mistakes of others or learn from themselves. Your insights and learnings from mistakes is very much appreciated.
Awesome content as always! Hope to see you in Watches & Wonders in a couple of weeks!
I will be there 😀😀
@@Mike.thiswatchthatwatch Great! I’m shy but I’ll say hello if you don’t mind.
Not at all. I will be at the main expo saturday and time to watches and all the rest sunday.
See you there
@@Mike.thiswatchthatwatch will be at the main expo on Saturday too and, of course, I’ll say hi. I have a great respect for your work. Cheers and see you soon!
Great content!! You actually are brutally honest in your answers. Finally a non- biased watch expert.
Kind of you, thanks 😃
My advice to new collectors is to save save save and delay purchase as much as possible. There are tons of watches to discover so don’t be hasty. Lastly buy brands and models that hold their value. Yes! You have to buy watches you “love” but its like saying to young kids to follow their passions instead of getting a degree that will help them get a stable job and career.
I really, really dig your vibe, man. I didn't think it was possible to have a watch channel with exactly ZERO pretentiousness but you pull it off with aplomb. Please keep it coming. I could listen to you talk watches for days on end. Thank you.
Thanks - I'm trying at least and just happy people find me worth a little bit of their time 😀😀
Always a pleasure to hears/.verse from this package Mac Alliston xxx
I recently got into watches and stumbled upon your channel. I'm thoroughly enjoying your videos. Your last comment/story got me in the feels. Keep up the good work.
Welcome aboard! 😃
I think, Mike, you're a logic and natural evolution of watch youtubers
In a good way I hope 😀
Of course!
Congratulations and thank you!!
Thank you 😀
the more I watch your videos the more I like your style < simple yet smart , to the point and done< love it!
Happy to hear that 😊
Super video, inspirational and I take your comments into my own professional life. Thanks.
thanks 😀😀
Congrats for this new video. Very honest and insightful
I try - Thank you 😀😀
Ms. Vestager was utterly thrilled, I am sure...
Undoubtedly. I actually shook her hand once 😃
😂😂😂
Another interesting video. Definitely becoming my go to channel. I am also, a South African living in the UK, so a bit more fortunate than you since I have a local supplier of biltong and Ouma rusks on my doorstep. Keep your videos coming. Best wishes, James
thanks 😀😀
I think the real reason for the success of the Apple Watch that is often overlooked is that it can be whatever you want it to be. You want it to be a golf watch, you can do that. You want it to display your pictures on the dial, yep. You don't have to look at any other brands because you can bend it to be whatever you want it to be.
