Logic would dictate that people who own expensive watches or jewelry would keep them in a safe. You're not going to keep a Patek or Rolex in a sock drawer. I mean their could be some people who would, but it wouldn't be the norm. If you can afford the watch, you can afford the safe. I dont know anyone who owns expensive watches who doesn't have some kind of lock box or safe hidden in the house. Goes with the territory and it's just common sense.
Not sure how you could be so certain that there was no edits, unless you are really looking for them. Although I have to admit I really enjoyed watching this video from start to finish.
Very good content by you! Those who tell the truth about a watch as opposed to those who sell fluff are few and far between! If I can ask, what do you think about a watch company like Hanhart?
@@Mike.thiswatchthatwatch Mike, a very solid and informative video with fair assumptions mixed in...imo. I'll add that I also bought a Doxa recently. It's a sub300 in carbon with an aquamarine rubber strap. It was a bit out of my comfort zone as well. I usually just switch back and forth between my Omega AT and my GMT Master II. It took a few wears but now I love wearing this watch, it was fun learning about Doxa the brand and its deep history in the diving community.
This is my favorite watch channel on YT by quite a margin. No noncense, no pointless shilling, packed with information that is pretty in depth and unbiased. Congratulations on 5k subs Mike
Wow, thank you! Just trying to do something interesting and glad people like it (plus I have a day job, so this isn't a way of financing my life - keeps me real hopefully) 😀😀
Thank you - This one was a little more "authentic". That's why there's less eye contact - I hadn't practiced my narrative as much - I usually speak the video a couple of times to get it spot on but this time, I just wanted "stream of consciousness and unfiltered". Glad you enjoyed it. 😀😀
I subscribe to over 10 watch channels, very well known, intelligent, charismatic hosts. You are the first person I would call to go buy a watch with me. Intangibles and relatable!
I can tell that you have a scientific and analytical mind that permeates to your posts which makes your content truly unique and out standing.. without counting the watch dealers (which I don’t follow) other watch TH-camrs are photographers, videographers, story tellers, watch sellers. You are the Watch Scientist / Researcher my friend 🙌🏻👍🏻
Going back here after a year to say I'm proud to be one of the few that were with you before your channel blew up. I appreciate your enthusiasm and depth of knowledge. You're the best watch TH-camr mate, hands down.
Who needs fancy editing, annoying music and an arrogant AF attitude….Not this guy. You and your channel are a breath of fresh air in this smoggy and filthy world of You-Tube watch content. Congrats to the milestone and cheers to the journey ahead!
When you have as deep of a thought processo as you do and with such a methodic approach, honestly I feel no “need” to see the watches in your collection. It’s just a pleasure listening to what you have to say, even if I disagree completely, which is quite rare. That being said, it was nice to see you wearing a Speedmaster. To be honest I’m a bit of an Omega fanboy.
Congrats to you ! I’m afraid I’m not one to leave comments, but always a 👍🏻 You have easily one of the most interesting and thoughtful watch channels these days. Always look forward to a new episode. Cheers 🥂
Love your qna. I feel other TH-camrs having different opinion is awesome as we get to listen to different point of view. Only God knows what the actual watch companies are thinking and it’s interesting to see what actually unfolds in the future. Keep up the good work. Very unique content I listen to when drinking coffee daily.
Great review. A brand I am just recovering. As a lady in a market so male driven. Finally watches for me. A everyday work horse. House work. Garden, dogs and horses. A casual watch and dress. Classic styles and designs.
You're clearly passionate about watches and very clearly explain your views based on research and analysis - which all makes sense - especially the point about personal choice and preference. As a follower of other YT channels I hope you continue what you are doing - making a worthy contribution to the love of time pieces. Thanks.
Thank you - I am a watch lover (to the disappointment of my bank). Will do my best to keep my video channel going to the standard people have come to expect 😃😃
I went through exactly the same process when buying my Scurfa DiverOne. I got an orange dial even though I usually choose more conservative colors. But i thought “it’s a diver watch after all”. Enjoy your Doxa!
I started to enjoy a lot of your videos. This particular video was longer than I expected so I thought I would tune out 5 minutes in but I'm listening to the end. Your charm is someone who doesn't BS and doesn't get influenced by money or creator egoism. At least that's why I love your content. I'm reasonably new to your channel. I am a great believer in absorbing information and then making a decision. Your videos are thought provoking and in this modern world not enough people are truly thinking. I really like your channel. Congratulations on your approach.
Can you speak and articulate? Absolutely. And that is why I think you are a success and can continue to succeed. A couple of other examples are @WristSwap and WornAndWound - and I’m referring to their hosts. Like you they can think through what they want to say and then deliver a thoughtful message. You were all meant to do this. Such things don’t come so easily for me. I’m not hopeless, but I also don’t have a natural finesse either. And that’s part of the joy of witnessing it in others.
Just got the chance to watch this over the weekend and I just have to drop by and say thanks for taking the time to answer these questions, I find them quite enlightening. Personally I can really relate to the tip you shared at the beginning on how one should try to challenge oneself in terms of the style of watches one wears. So far Ive always been more of a shiny watch kinda guy. I particularly like intricate dial furnitures which is why I love my huge Planet Ocean, the two tone Datejust, and my BB Chrono because of their shiny finishing and ability to catch people’s attention from 6 feet away. However, I took a leap of faith and got me a Black Bay Pro last month after experiencing how good it felt on the wrist. I didn’t know if I could grow to like the subdued & desaturated look of the dial at the time. Four weeks later, I’m totally head over heels with this chunky little watch. I simply couldn’t take it off my wrist. I like it so much, I’m now considering getting myself a Hamilton.
Congratulations Mike! This is the purest watch channel that I know and I enjoy these well thought monologues to my bone. Also, many thanks for answering my questions. Consumers can control the cost by keeping their money in their pockets is perhaps the best take on consumer discretionary market that I have come across in a while :) Wish you more success! 🥂
Hi, I don't leave comments on TH-cam in general, but I have to say I like your videos (I've seen 3 at this point). You have a plain, non-biased, logical way of viewing watches, and the watch industry. It is refreshing to hear something new, not the usual repeated fluff by other channels. I also hardly subscribe to channels (I am on four subs), but I have just subscribed to your channel. I'm not your usual TH-cam viewer, and I certainly don't spend all day online viewing/leaving comments, but I wanted to say I can fully understand why your channel has taken off so well! Good job 👍🏻
Haha 10 months ago you were celebrating 5K subs. Now you’re over 50K. Congratulations on your channel growth. I enjoy your more data driven approach to watch collecting. Obviously mechanical watches are an unnecessary subjective pursuit. Everyone’s selections are aesthetic choices but it is useful to know the manufacturers reputation and the components of any potential purchase. It’s also good to have an understanding of recent market trends of a potential purchase and of mechanical watches in general. Thats the type of objective data I can glean from your channel. Thanks.
Michael: I have been moving your posts on to watch crunch and you're getting a great response. I truly enjoy your content and prospective please keep it up!

Congrats 🍾 on 5k Mike, your stock is rising (Dr. Evil reference 😂)! I tell everyone in the hobby if you open up your watch box and smile you’re doing it right 😁. Best regards
Thank you, as always for a very enlightening video. I feel that your points on lessons not learned are very well made. In my experience, the subject "they" comprises organisations of individuals that record lessons learned and identified, by single individuals, meet about them, summarise them and record them. Though it may seem very cynical, it's my belief that these lessons stay with the individual and are not somehow absorbed by the organisation. Behind each generation of older folk (us) are new waves of younger folk, who have yet to learn these lessons, and know, as we did at that point in their life cycle, that what the old guard is postulating seems like the jaded view of those who are nearing retirement, who may have lost their zeal for business.

New subscriber, was watching a well known platform and their new "Presents" series and quickly became bored with 3-gentleman on a couch. While scrolling found your video and found it immeasurably more interesting, thank you.
Yes, very informed opinions about different watches and the watch industry. It's also refreshing to see that you're not "another watch reviewer", that's an easy trop to fall into. If i may suggest that if you do another Q & A, that after 5 or 6 long (I'm NOT complaining here!!!) answers , you could do 2 or 3 "quick fired" answers. Maybe with yes or no answers. It might keep the video fresh and spark a debate in the comments. I'll look forward to more. Tks
Most of the established brands have increased their prices astonishingly (in the last 2-3 years) based on the last watch bubble's buying patterns, where the higher the price, the more desirable the watch, so why not jack up prices to the moon; once folks tire of that game, the mania moves on and the economy softens (already happening I believe) I believe that these brands will probably struggle with high prices, while newer brands will occupy the more value oriented segments that the established brands used to have.
Just watching the back catalogue. I think one of the niches you bring is your intellect. Your content is just smart and you are humble. Those often don’t come in the same person. I very much appreciate that. I would LOVE your opinion on two I am currently trying to choose between. Omega Aqua Terra or Tudor BB 58. They’re both on my list. I am in love with the co-axial as that is what got me into to watches. However, the BB is not like a design I own and also love the way it looks as well. I’ve been saving and am at a decision point.
Thanks. Glad you like my vids. BB58 vs AT? As always - Choose the one you like. Having said that. They're not comparable. Divers the sports watch. Bezel diver vs polished bezel. Bracelet on the BB is nicer (even with rivets). Dial is much more premium on the AT. AT wears much more masculine and is more noticeable. It's also a better movement. BB is more restrained.. I like both but I would personally lean AT. 😃😃
Each to their own. The one thing i could never visualise myself doing is buying just one particular brand. Everyone has a favourite watch or brand but to contain yourself to only one brand means you're missing out on so many great options.
Hi Mike, Another nice honest video. Many points made so I won’t be able to leave a comments that is all encompassing… I’ll put some thoughts down in a different comments.
Brilliant video. My daughter is in Japan picking me up some JDM hardware with some hand finished dials. Its about the stories. I also avoid buying automobiles and watches while they are hot lol. Love the Tokyo, Switzerland and Glashutte reference as that its where its at in terms of watchmaking.
The law in Switzerland is that they only need 50% to be Swiss origin, and internals to be 60% Swiss. It’s clear that Swatch group gets the steel and casing from Asia, and then they finish in Switzerland and do the movement there
Congratulations Mike on reaching 5000 subscribers. I was about to ask why you did not own an Omega when you talked about your watch collection, until you flashed a Speedmaster on your wrist. Cool!
Cheers! I just found your channel and thoroughly enjoy your perspective and analysis. It's a fun hobby and inviting discussion is always a good policy! Keep them coming! Also nice to see another SA guy giving a chat! Joburg by chance?
Well said. They are too greedy on the price, but for JLC, there was one time in the past decade that they had issued more affordable watches with less decoration and less dressy.
It's completely bizarre that you say all watches in a collection need to be worn.
Why do you feel the 'unworn' watches are always in a safe?
The assumption is that they're safe queens 😂

Just got the chance to watch this over the weekend and I just have to drop by and say thanks for taking the time to answer these questions, I find them quite enlightening.
Personally I can really relate to the tip you shared at the beginning on how one should try to challenge oneself in terms of the style of watches one wears. So far Ive always been more of a shiny watch kinda guy. I particularly like intricate dial furnitures which is why I love my huge Planet Ocean, the two tone Datejust, and my BB Chrono because of their shiny finishing and ability to catch people’s attention from 6 feet away.

Excactly 😀
Brilliant and insightful. I wish I were as intelligent and eloquent as you! 👏
I just spend to much time focusing on watches.... 😀😀
love you work boet! lekker content! love from Switzerland
Appreciate it! 😀
Question: Boks all the way to the final???
Hi Mike,
Another nice honest video.
Many points made so I won’t be able to leave a comments that is all encompassing… I’ll put some thoughts down in a different comments.
Thanks - Glad you enjoyed it and thanks a ton for taking the time to contribute 😀😀
Wonderful content and always enlightening. Thanks to you too. 🎉
My pleasure! 😃😃
Glad you enjoyed it 😀😀
The law in Switzerland is that they only need 50% to be Swiss origin, and internals to be 60% Swiss. It’s clear that Swatch group gets the steel and casing from Asia, and then they finish in Switzerland and do the movement there
Fantastic commentary!
thanks a ton 😀
Wonderful. Congratulations on 5,000 ❤
Thank you! Cheers! 😀😀
What is your day job? You are a great communicator!
Just your regular business desk jockey. On occasion I stand in front of people and click through powerpoint slides 😃😃😃
Love from Zimbabwe my African brother 💪🏿
Cheers bruh 😀
I like this fella!
Congratulations Mike on reaching 5000 subscribers. I was about to ask why you did not own an Omega when you talked about your watch collection, until you flashed a Speedmaster on your wrist. Cool!
Of course I have a speedy 😀😀😀😀

Thank you very much! 😃😃
Great channel. Thank you.
And thank YOU 😀😀
Cheers! I just found your channel and thoroughly enjoy your perspective and analysis. It's a fun hobby and inviting discussion is always a good policy! Keep them coming! Also nice to see another SA guy giving a chat! Joburg by chance?
Born Joburg but raised in east london actually… 😀😀😀
Thanks - glad you find my content worthy of your time 😀
Congrats bud!
Thanks 😀
All valid comments. I would avoid aluminium bezels on a tool watch though, they scratch/ding very easily...likewise AR coating on the outside....
Do you do collection recommendations? You absolutely should. I’d love to get your take on what my collection needs for my next achievement piece.
Never have, but I'll consider it 😀😀
Amazing !!
You had me at graphics card. ❤
Don't get me started on overpriced Nvidia products.... 😂😂
Well said. They are too greedy on the price, but for JLC, there was one time in the past decade that they had issued more affordable watches with less decoration and less dressy.
True 😀
Those 40 minutes went by real fast! Please make more of this type of content:)

Glad you enjoyed it. Always nervous when I post a 40 minute ramble 🤦♂️😀😀😀
