To me, this is one of the best bikes I've seen in decades. The last bike I rode was a dirt bike when I was young. I'm in my mid 50's now, never ridden on the road, and I'd like to get one of these bikes to get out and just enjoy riding and exploring in the countryside. This is the perfect bike, simple, utilitarian, retro style, and will just carry you along at a leisurely pace. Ideal for camping or travelling on an adventure. It has accessories like gerry cans, luggage racks, it's perfect. And the camo / army style paint just adds the icing to the cake. I was always hoping Honda would make something like this. Well done Royal Enfield.
The only thing is that servicing interval are pretty short However Itchy Boots rode one of these from India to the Netherlands via central asia, THat was an Indian domestic model not set up for the EU so replaced it with a new export model which she rode from Buenos Aires to Ushuaia and then north along the Andes to Peru where she got trapped by covid, had to abandon her bike anf was repatriated home
Riden bikes for years, last bike I owned was 100bhp. But after Getty a himmy, I can honestly say I never feel lacking thanks to all the usable tourq down low. And this is the most fun bike I've ever owned. It's so easy to master so you can enjoy riding it to its limit rather than feeling over whelmed by too much power, that realistically you can't really use in most riding situations anyway.
I liked this video so much I drove down from NEO to buy that sweet silver and brown one! Can’t wait to get ‘er home. Ken and Tony were awesome. Can’t wait to meet you and the rest of the crew!
I've been resurrecting an 87 Hurricane 600 over the pandemic. It still has a way to go and I'm strongly eyeing the Himalayan as a second bike. Thanks for making a great video.
Sounds like you were talking about the stalling issues with the BS6 Himalayans. I got my 2021 a couple of months ago and it too was prone to stalling on first start-up but thankfully it runs fine once warmed up unlike what I've heard about the BS6's that some of them stall unpredictably even while cruising on the road. I tried everything on my bike to improve start up - upgraded the relays, adjusted the idle and the TPS, and swapped the spark plug to iridium, but found ultimately the best solution was to just use my throttle lock to give it some extra revs as it warms-up plus it seems to be better behaved now after the first service and as it's broken in more. Looking forward to taking it on my first moto-camping trip next month once I get it broken-in and it warms up a bit more down here in Arizona :)
@@stesj4 Yup, I upgraded the fuel pump relay with one from Hitchcock. My bike is still cold-blooded on first start-up but it's gotten better as it's broken in and thankfully it never stalls once its properly warmed up.
@@stesj4 Over here in the US we only got the BS6 model Himalayans late last year as 2022 model year bikes so my 2021 is actually a BS4 with just three relays instead of the five the BS6s have. For my bike I just ended up replacing all the relays with upgraded ones from Hitchcock because I kept seeing online that the OEM relays weren't the best to begin with. I'm not sure it made much difference in the fueling of my bike but it did help my peace of mind at least lol.
Just bought a Himalayan last Friday and my bike definitely does not start that easily. I need to hold the "choke" and give it some throttle until it warms up a bit
Hello, I have a 2022 , pine green Himalayan, also have a honda f6b, this bike will take you on some pretty rugged terrain! Not motocross style but enduro style, backroads and trails are perfect, I think the tires that it comes with are more for offroad than road, there alittle grunty on the road, the bike is growing on me I'm 5'7" and find the seat height very manageable, factory panniers are a little pricey for this bike, ( dealer quoted 1100.00) put a Nelson tail pack on ,that seems to work ok, tightening straps once in a while, goldwing for touring, Himalayan for on off road, best of both words!
I have a '21 I took delivery of toward the end of last riding season....put over 4k miles on it with no issues....had a minor issue with my rear tire holding air, my dealer took care of it.....when they took the tire off, they found a factory defect....the rim rubber, or whatever its called, didn't cover all the spokes....and the spokes rubbed a hole in the tube.....this summer it had a hard start issue, took a few times to start and stay idling....but not a big deal....once the temps got below 60....started and stayed running first time EVERY time .....she LOVES the cold.....she'll even crank over right now, in the teens on first try...every thing else was just making it the way I want it.....added the hand guards, the crash guards, iridium plug, swapped the headlamp for an LED.....still have a ton of things to do, mother nature wasn't kind this summer, and my work area is my driveway....the parts I have waiting to install are fog light brackets, fog lights with wiring harness, a dual USB charger, NGK plug wire with boot, pannier racks with panniers, front fender risers.....I need a garage.....LOL.....BUT...NO complaints at all......haven't taken it off road yet, but on the country twisties, it handles like a dream.....
I have just ordered two spare relays from Hitchcocks if that's what you are on about. Seems to affect the Euro 5's in the UK or 2022's as you call them. So far two months in and still no issues with the original ones but know of cases where they fail.
Noraly of Itchy Boots switched to a Honda 300 Rally because the RE was a little heavy for her to pick up if she dropped it with all her gear on it. She needed something lighter. The RE was otherwise great in her South American trips almost all of which were off road......Sal : )
Another great YT channel for RE content is 'Nathan the Postman'. He has ridden all kinds of bikes all over the world and now leads adv tours where he favours the Himalayan as it does not tire the rider the way larger bikes are prone to, and yet they still tractor up trails were even the KTM struggled!

Dylan, you stated that Royal Enfield first built the Bullet in 1954. I believe you have to go on back to 1932 to find the beginning of the Royal Enfield's Bullet.
My bike wouldn't stay idling like that, and GOAZ tries and does get over $2000 in additional fees beyond the cost of the bike! I can't believe how that bike fired right up and settled into a perfect idle! Yes, such a great motocamper for us shorter folk!

Hey there. I’m actually in the area and I’ve seen your shop. Very awesome that you guys are in Columbus. When can we meet up so I can see the REH in person? (This would be my very first bike ever)
What’s your opinion on running in the engine at the manufacturers recommendation as you way exceeded the recommended speeds and rpm that they advise for the first 300 miles. Fantastic bike though. I’m in the uk and have just hit the 450 miles mark on mine and have loved every minute so far
As a dealer, you should always follow the owners manual. That being said the 2 important things to avoid during the break in period are 1) not varying engine speed 2) lugging the engine.
Look people as a veteran rider I'm here to say the bike is comfortable you don't really feel the weight - it's down low. Once you put it in gear acceleration builds up pretty quickly very linear very predictable Seat is also improved on the 2022. Big change for 2023 the engine is now tuned to match the scrambler 411 eliminating the need for an idle lever. shouldn't have any issues with cold starting now I would like to see a video on valve adjustment since it's required everything at 3000 miles which is kind of soon
I’m planning my new bike purchase, I will consider buy it through you as I’ve liked you previous videos. Few questions. 1.) are heated hand grips y heated touring seat an option? 2.) what the widest tire that will fit on rear wheel? Widest front tire? 3.) are the oem wheels tubeless? 4.) do tank guards come standard or as an add on option? 5.) do you stock front fairing accessories to aid in wind buffeting with storage? Taller windscreen?
Hi Jeff. I’ll be able to answer those questions for you. OEM heated grips are not an option due to the climate in India. Tyres comes with tubes because of spoke wheels. You can upsize the tyres by one size wider options as per availability. The front railing/fairing guard is a standard accessory.
Did the new, larger windscreen reduce wind buffeting? I love the Himalayan, it's such a great bike. I currently own a 2018 model in Texas and a 2020 model Korea.
I have a granite black and have done 1400ks on it and it is freeing up all the time. It’s a very easy bike to speed on. IMHO the zero to 60 time being an important thing is total BS because in your car how often do you put your foot to the floor when merging on the freeways. The on ramps a generally really long and your doing 60 mph 100 kph on the Himalayan you are doing freeway speed well before you need to merge.
Himalayan 450 spotted testing. It will be the first truly modern bike made by RE. It's like RE finally arriving in the 21st century. I really hope they get this one right.
Personally this one was done right, if you want a more powerful better suspension bike there's many offers out there but you'll pay for it, these cost as much as a TW200 & will out perform them hands down, but with that said I rode those for years & yeah I wish it had more power more suspension travel but again there are many other offers out there, but where as I'm a shorter rider & I only like to chug around mountain trails & occasional road trips heck the Himalayan does that just fine especially the price the dang 450 probably gonna sell for 6-7k not worth it to me even if it had 20 more HP or so on & so on
@@throttlecompany No I don't have Himalayan. I've got 2 bikes at the moment, a 1975 Honda CB750 and a 1964 Triumph TR6. If I was going to get a Royal Enfield, I'd probably get one of the 650 twins. l'm kinda curious about the new BSA Goldstar. Any chance you guys will carry those when they come to the states?
You have good taste, those are two of the most classic bikes ever made! We would love to look into carrying the new BSAs, it seems too early to tell what’s going to happen, but we do have some inquiries in about it.
Well it is supposed to. If you were one of our customers, we would have you come back for a quick 20 minute adjustment for free. Are you close to Columbus, Ohio?
@@throttlecompany I'm in Ft Worth Texas. I have family there but my bike is here. I've seen a lot of vids of the inherent idle problem on this bike. It doesn't take long for it to warm up and idle fine but I have to stay on the throttle for a few minutes after starting. I haven't experienced starting it below 75 degrees yet. It there an adjustment I can do to help?
The only issue I have had with mine is a faulty ignition switch where sometimes it won’t fire up. Wiggle the key and it turns on. Twisted Moto here in Geelong Australia has one ordered under warranty. So no real problem.
I have the exact same bike, same year and colour with 2750 miles on the clock. The brakes are not brilliant, but they will stop you eventually so you need to ride accordingly and keep your distance. I like the bike, but it's not an all rounder so not really suitable as your only motorcycle, more like a second or third bike. If I take a trip that requires high speed freeway work then I take a road bike which in my case is a Honda CB650F or Suzuki Bandit 600S. If I want some fun on and off road then it's the Himalayan. I do like the the single cylinder thumper which reminds me of a 1950s bike and I suppose the poor brakes and low top speed is what you'd get from a classic British motorcycle, but hopefully without the mechanical issues.
@@throttlecompany it's just come out of the showroom, serviced with three months warranty and everyone else on TH-cam says the brakes aren't good, but I will have them checked out. Thanks.
@@throttlecompany Well, I will get them checked because you're the only one who says they're good. Perhaps it was fitted with new pads and they will get better. I'll find out.
Hey Dylan. I am an X Buckeye, from Columbus. Living in Australia now. I watch ol'Man Ronin as well. Good to things for Ohio. Where are you located in Columbus?
@@throttlecompany Okay. maybe the next time I come to Ohiop, I will drop in and visit. Till then I will watch your video's on Y tube. Thanks for getting bac k to me. You and Ronin, are good for that.
It is of course a complicated subject (as I implied in the video) during our initial setup at the dealership, we make sure the throttle position sensor is adjusted properly and idle needs to be reset accordingly. This is best accomplished by the dealer using the RE computer to monitor all the sensors. The official setup is to set idle from 1250-1350. I find the dash reads a bit higher and isn’t accurate enough for initial setup.
So I was looking at this and the Honda CB500x. Both my wife and I are short and weight about 200lbs. Do you think the Himalayan could carry both of us for short trips down the freeway? Or is that a bit much for this bike?
CB500X will be better for that, the Himalayans are still only about 24bhp, won't trouble it having a passenger or luggage but it won't be doing american freeway speeds loaded up or even unloaded too happily.
put a 450 to 500 LS single in it and l will upgrade my 5 year old camo blue BS3 himmy putting the 650 twin in the 350 cruiser (dont know what its called) would be a great move from RE
Just an FYI Royal Enfield the English company basically had nothing to do with the Indian(as in India) side , apart from selling them the rights and tooling to the 350/500 pre-unit bullet and the Metor 500 pre-unit twin along with set up and training to build/use said tooling . It was also known then as the India Enfield , not the Royal Enfield up to about the early 90's ?, It has also changed hands several times as a company , and has been whole'y owned by Indians(as in India) with no English/British involvement/funding .The last Enfield Bullets are substantially different engine wise as in original pre-unit/4 speed box/points/mag ignition/carburetor to being unit/5 speed box/electronic ignition/fuel injected. Also as you stated the Himalayan was/is a totally New/different bike/engine and has no interchangeable parts with the original/up-dated Bullet It is also a very good bike for what it is , bit under-powered/under-braked for the experienced rider , ideal for the novice or rider looking for a change of seen/pace.
Hoping you can provide some advice. Just got a 2022 Himalayan. Once the engine is warm it idles at 3000 rpm. Dealer says i need a new throttle body and has been waiting for a month for delivery. Any suggestions?
Are you in Seattle by chance? I heard those guys love to change throttle bodies. I’ve never needed to change a single one though. Idle is essentially controlled by an air screw on the top of the throttle body (under the tank) and the TPS (throttle position sensor). They should be able to get the idle within the specified range using those two adjustments (the range is 1250-1350 RPM)
2 things on this: 1) They have started calling this project SG or Shotgun 650 so if you go looking for info that might help 2) whatever happens India will get it first and we will get it later on (6-9 months after)
@@throttlecompany Here in India Royal Enfield is losing market share so they had to start working on new hardcore adv which is roughly based on Himalayan with new engine which will be 450cc as India domestic bike manufacturers are entering in Royal Enfield 300cx to 650cc segments.
@@throttlecompany I've heard it a few places but this is from a Rider Magazine review. Besides the nav system, what else is new? The Himalayan’s saddle, still at 31.5 inches high, gets upgraded foam padding and a new suede-like cover that minimizes slip between the seat’s surface and the rider’s pants. I'm not sure I like the new design of the forward racks. There were nice cases and jerry can mounts made for the old.
In North America we see a significant delay in bikes getting to us. So what we wind up calling the 2022 model in the US may be old news for India, Asia, and Europe. My guess is that some changes have been made to the newest bikes but not on the bike in the video. The manufacturer date was June 2021. The seat seems the same to me. There are many other changes that I went over in the video. I believe most fuel can mounts could be made to work with the new forward racks. The new design isn’t that different from the previous one.
Yep we have one of each model we sell to test ride. It’s possible that we were too busy to answer the phone today we have been very busy lately and we are a small shop. Our weekday hours are 12-8
To me you are ignoring the middle A and that is not correct. I understand the “that’s how they say it there” argument, but that doesn’t necessarily make it correct. Are there other examples where correct pronunciations just skip letters that are not otherwise silent?
For measurements other than temperature felt by humans I am willing to consider the metric system. But for weather based temperature, the Fahrenheit system is inarguably superior. 100 = hot 0 = cold you just can’t compete with that, I will not concede an inch and I will not agree to disagree.
Yes I know that. But I am more often judging the weather than the boiling or freezing of water. And my guess is you are too. Go have fun outside in the 30 degree weather.
MY CONCERN IS THAT YOU ARE PUSHING THIS ENFIELD TO 60-70 MPH WHEN IT ONLY HAS 5/10 MILES ON THE NEW ENGINE!! ACCORDING TO MY MANUAL, THIS IS WAY-BEYOND THE BREAK-IN SPEED UNTIL 300 MILES ON THE BIKE!!! I HAVE A 2021 GRANITE.....JOHN IN COLORADO

I would go get your brakes checked that isn’t normal.
@@throttlecompany it's just come out of the showroom, serviced with three months warranty and everyone else on TH-cam says the brakes aren't good, but I will have them checked out.
Thanks.
Its funny how group think works.
@@throttlecompany Well, I will get them checked because you're the only one who says they're good. Perhaps it was fitted with new pads and they will get better. I'll find out.
The exshaust in your 2022 is diffrent from the ones we got in aus! our cat got moved futher up the pipe
Yes, we in North America are a bit behind. I think that version of the exhaust will be coming to us soon.
Yes, that is to satisfy the new emission norms. The BS6 bike has the cat moved up closer to the engine.
Hey Dylan. I am an X Buckeye, from Columbus. Living in Australia now. I watch ol'Man Ronin as well. Good to things for Ohio. Where are you located in Columbus?
We are across from the old Cooper Stadium. 1130 W Mound ST
@@throttlecompany
Okay. maybe the next time I come to Ohiop, I will drop in and visit. Till then I will watch your video's on Y tube. Thanks for getting bac k to me. You and Ronin, are good for that.
I got classic 350 reborn in India 🔥
Hey there bro👋
❤️❤️❤️❤️ dream bike hope dream come true
Hi Dylan, the ABS light on my Himalayan gets switched off automatically while riding.
That’s normal. The light comes on at startup and turns off when you start moving. It’s actually a warning light. So if it’s off, everything is good.
@@throttlecompany Alright. Thank you for your Swift response. :)
What is the trick to getting them to idle like that?
It is of course a complicated subject (as I implied in the video) during our initial setup at the dealership, we make sure the throttle position sensor is adjusted properly and idle needs to be reset accordingly. This is best accomplished by the dealer using the RE computer to monitor all the sensors. The official setup is to set idle from 1250-1350. I find the dash reads a bit higher and isn’t accurate enough for initial setup.
Himalayan is a great bike But a bit expensive in India!
What's the price in USA?
They cost about $5k in the US which is very low for a new motorcycle. Looks like this is about 370,000 INR
@@throttlecompany In India its about $3500.
It is actually way cheaper in India.
So I was looking at this and the Honda CB500x. Both my wife and I are short and weight about 200lbs. Do you think the Himalayan could carry both of us for short trips down the freeway? Or is that a bit much for this bike?
CB500X will be better for that, the Himalayans are still only about 24bhp, won't trouble it having a passenger or luggage but it won't be doing american freeway speeds loaded up or even unloaded too happily.
put a 450 to 500 LS single in it and l will upgrade my 5 year old camo blue BS3 himmy
putting the 650 twin in the 350 cruiser (dont know what its called) would be a great move from RE
Hi Dylan I bought a 2022 royal Enfield Himalayan and it doesn’t start like that can you help
Lv from India, Kerala😍😍😍🙏
Necesitamos subtítulos en español latino gracias. Desde Argentina.
Thank you, truck truck for your comment!
@@throttlecompany Thanks for the quick response. Seemed strange to replace a throttle body on a brand new bike. I'm in Ottawa, Canada.
When you are getting the legendary Classic 350???
As soon as possible!
Waiting on that Meteor 650. Still looking like summer 22?
2 things on this: 1) They have started calling this project SG or Shotgun 650 so if you go looking for info that might help 2) whatever happens India will get it first and we will get it later on (6-9 months after)
@@throttlecompany brother SG and super meteor will be two different bikes because Royal Enfield patent both names here in india.
I’ve heard that but we will have to wait and see.
@@throttlecompany Here in India Royal Enfield is losing market share so they had to start working on new hardcore adv which is roughly based on Himalayan with new engine which will be 450cc as India domestic bike manufacturers are entering in Royal Enfield 300cx to 650cc segments.
@@throttlecompany we were told that they will release new bike every quarter.
BY THE WAY ROYAL ENFIELD IS AN INDIAN AUTOMOTIVE COMPANY
The seat is supposed to be different on the 22.
I hadn’t heard that, seems the same to me. What is supposed to be different, denser foam?
I am buying one
Congrats! I’m sure you will love it. What a fun motorcycle!
hindi me bolo
Do you guys have one of these bikes to test ride ? I tired calling the shop and it goes straight to voicemail
Yep we have one of each model we sell to test ride. It’s possible that we were too busy to answer the phone today we have been very busy lately and we are a small shop. Our weekday hours are 12-8
Weird flex to match the bike, but all good.
Well the word 'Himalaya' originated from Sanskrit and that is the correct pronounciation that we use India.
Himālayan!
To me you are ignoring the middle A and that is not correct. I understand the “that’s how they say it there” argument, but that doesn’t necessarily make it correct. Are there other examples where correct pronunciations just skip letters that are not otherwise silent?
Let's agree that we disagree and conclude the metric system is best
For measurements other than temperature felt by humans I am willing to consider the metric system. But for weather based temperature, the Fahrenheit system is inarguably superior. 100 = hot 0 = cold you just can’t compete with that, I will not concede an inch and I will not agree to disagree.
@@throttlecompany 0 °C is freezing point of water, 100°C is boiling point of water, just to relevate cold and hot
Yes I know that. But I am more often judging the weather than the boiling or freezing of water. And my guess is you are too. Go have fun outside in the 30 degree weather.
@@throttlecompany forgot to mention: nice bike that's why I was watching, eyeballing one right now, see if I can get the price down, so can add cases
What are you worried will happen?
