They had true hemispherical combustion chambers which is why they sounded so good. Buying a classic British motorcycle can be frustrating because you don't know what hidden screw-ups have been done by previous owners.

Those little bread box tanks were pretty sort after back in the day, Triumph made a couple of very cool ones for their scramblers.

Actually it is built VERY different from a triumph. Yes it was targeting the Triumph crowd, but everything is different. I have both and have built them for years so I know. Triumph used an electric start before the end, last few years. Gotta say, my two triumphs are faster and really actually look a lot cleaner and more beautiful, but the XS us more planted and feels more stable. Parts are heavier duty and there is no tappet noise. And, it does look really nice. i have a 76 with the French Blue paint and get lots of compliments on it.

A few things here, The impressive reeving as you say is most likely the result of the dial/clock mechanism that fluctuates when changes occur, the inner core of the cable would not respond as quick as the dial mechanism. During your trip, I noticed the bike wobbled suddenly when changes in road surface occurred like groves/cracks in the pavement, indicating that the bike needs to have the swing arm bushings replaced. What ever it is, the left side cover is the most likely to fall off when riding, and replacement left side covers are hard to find for this reason. When trying to restart the engine and it fails to do so, on the electric, change immediately to the kick leaver to save the battery for the kick option. Was always amazed that Yamaha didn't provide mirror mounts on the handlebar leavers. The brackets supplied were very clumsy. With these bikes I find that the ignition electrics are a problem in causing hesitancy in the spark plugs at low revs only. Always a problem, maybe someone reading this has a recommendation.

So a few things not correct. Grab rail behind the seat, pinstripes are wrong on the tank, front fender not correct, torque link is chromed, front master cylinder resevoir is for a single disc brake but that's what everyone puts on since you need to rebuild the oem. It's nice but you can't use it as a correct example. Would need to see it in person to identify if any other inaccuracies.

$2475 is a disappointing number. The vintage motorcycle market can be weird. I would think the seller could have thrown that bike on FB Market Place with a $3000 asking price and found a buyer pretty easily. Under $2500 feels like someone got a deal.

As soon as I saw the thumb nail I was thinking it was a Classic Octane Brat style build. I've learned a lot from that dude. The mistake a lot of people make with this type of build is a short stubby seat and no rear fender. It throws the lines of the bike off. I wish it had a little bit of a rear fender, but he made it work with the long seat.

I just bought one the other day., from a lady who's having financial problems and her husband is being a dick So she sold it to me for $2000.00 It runs great on the rare occasion you can get it started It looks fantastic it's in great shape But it is the least agile motorcycle that I've ever owned in my life It's also the slowest I've been riding since the late 1980s And always have at least one working motorcycle For some reason this one cannot be pushed started Add the alarm on it drains the battery It has to be kept on a constant trickle charger I will probably sell it for something more reliable like a rice burner love the harly style But the bikes are overpriced pieces of junk. Designed to attract people with stupid money ., so they can flaunt it. I'll show it off briefly and use it for picking up materialistic women before I get bored of it and sell it The deal with the battery will make me get bored of it pretty quick

Just dragged one of these out of a barn , Cleaned out the tank , freed up the front brake , topped up the oil , A few kicks she popped , a few more she ran , she ran sweet . Afew more checks and it's time to hit the road

I once owned a Halcyon Green Classic 350. A gorgeous colour that really pops in the sunshine. I reckon the Halcyon Black would better suit the Ruffian treatment.

On the exhaust... back in the 70s they used to have a short chrome glass pack mufflers for Honda 350s that the inside of the pipe was painted bright red. Maybe one of those mounted to the header pipe and ended just past the peg. 🤔😎

I am a huge fan of the British and the Yamaha XS1and2 twins. Stripped down but not pretending to be a Harley or Indian V-Twin, or a Vincent. I love them like that and that little “Ruffiian Enfield is really cool!

Still got mine here in the UK, same colour. Most got chopped in the eighties, rare and cool bike nowadays

They made 5000 in 76 , first foreign vehicle built in the States, and the first ever Japanese production custom bike , introduced to capture some of the Harley and custom market. Morris mag wheels, Jardine pipes and Mulholland rear shocks as standard. One of the nicest looking bikes to ever come off a production line in my opinion , I just sold mine ( chassis # 00076 ) recently in the UK for £5000... Gutted

My father bought 2 identical bikes one for me and one for my older brother and he had a Gold Wong... Nice people and future hells angels ( my brother 😄) ride Hondas... 😅 It was my high school graduation present. That year my family rode around North America starting home in San Francisco and making one big giant 46 days loop.. I could write a full article on this story. If you saw my parents you would NEVER belive they rode motorcycles. Yes, this was my first street legal bike.... My first motorcycle was a... Honda of course.... The legendary fully bullet and child PROOF XR 75!! Any way.... My Super sport has many fun stories to tell..... Like swapping out Vehicles for the night with friends that had the hot cars for when a girls parents would not let me take their daughter out on my bike... 😅 But I did have many gfs over the years and their parents would let me take their daughters away on my bike.... One father expected me to sit with him first and tell him what the basic evening plan was all the while drinking a beer with him.... At 16 years of age 😮... I am 194cm...6'4"...some parents were always so surprised that I wanted to go out with their daughter... 😅😅 So, the ergos on this bike were never an issue.... I did have to replace foot pegsdue due to clearance..... Issues😁 my father scolded me for racing up in the hills.... HIGHWAY 9....SKYLINE BLVD.... 84 at Alice's to the coast..... And my summer rides throughout the Sierras mostly North Lake Tahoe... Awesome bike, no issues except for the stupid Speedometer... 😄 Great video. Thank you for a trip down memory lane.. 😅 YEA, Kerkers, super trap and Vance n Hines were popular then. 😊🌴🙏 Living in Beautiful Gorgeous Bangkok Thailand 🇹🇭 fora very long time these days.... The 47hp limit for Learner riders also applies in Australia it’s called Learner Approved Motorcycle Scheme - LAMS (it is also a power to weight and cc system so under 650cc and no light bikes with that 47hp). In the UK and Europe it’s called the A2 Licence system.

For a first real bike (Had a Honda Navi) would you advise the 350 or the 650 from your experience with them? Got a deposit at my local dealer for a 350 atm but they have 650s coming in along with them and its certainly tempting. Dont really do any highway, all back roads and urban streets.
