What everyone is missing is that we're in a transitory period in gaming history where people old enough to remember good games are getting up in age and less likely to give a shit about the current state of video games and all the tik tocker, adhd, fornite playing generation of kids are becoming the vast majority of audience and customer base for the industry. They want to phase older gamers out of the player base so they can replace them with kids who do not know the difference in what makes a good and bad game. They want the bar set lower and lower. They want you to throw your hands in the air and walk away. That's ideal for them. Because they know that for every older gamer that gives up and jumps ship there's 10 more kids who will buy any pile of shit they put on sale.

While there's truth to what you say, a lot of the blame goes to the corrupt media, who have utterly failed at policing the industry, and educating gamers.
Ultimately, it's those who give a company money who are to blame for a company's practices, but most of the people who do this don't understand what kind of harm they are doing. Those in the media know exactly what they are doing.

Going to say this because it's relevant. Preorders were a thing back when digital media wasn't so widely used. You reserved a copy for yourself at your local game store that way, on release day, you could pick up your copy worry free in case the game sold out. These days, downloads exist and so physical copies don't get sold out as often anymore. The only thing it does now is sell marketing. The execs track preorder sales compared to marketing released. This lets them know which marketing campaigns were successful so that they go for something similar the next game release.
Don't preorder. If this info gets more widely spread, it'll stop this nonsense. Vote with your wallets.

    • @souloshinobi7307
      @souloshinobi7307 2 ปีที่แล้ว +30

The thing about Preorders of old, unless you got a digital version I believe, you only had to put a few dollars down and could decide if you wanted it or not at launch. These new digital preorders require the whole amount and is a pain in the ass to get refunded. I agree with you though. I’ll never preorder a game again. The last few years of gaming has been a massive let down with all these companies focusing on marketing hype over marketing legit, good games.

What still slays me is that they're charging 60-70 bucks for digital downloads when part of that cost was to cover the physical media, case, and any additional inserts the case might have. Then they want to sit there and tell me that games needs to cost *more* money because they're getting more expensive to make, but we all know the expense is coming from the ridiculous marketing budget because it certainly isn't going into these games.

It's a kick in the nuts that you can use an Xbox controller on PC but you have to buy a third party adapter that introduces huge amounts of latency if you want to use a mouse on your Xbox. The tornados i find are a good idea, just poorly executed. They could be way more destructive and actually help the maps out with cover. Take Renewel for example. Tornado spawns in solar field, rips solar panels out of the ground, not only creating a hazard in and around the tornado, but throwing the panels across the map and thus creating cover in the more open areas. The idea's are there, just very poorly executed.

What it should have done is 1. Change the strategy to unearth snipers and campers, 2. Change half the map too something different via devolution that should be a domino effect of destruction, new playing areas and changing bottle necks and opens sections, 3. Tip the entire play field to make it far more exciting via variety until the match end whilst being a next gen spectacle. In the end they only took a very shallow approach of point 1 and even more shallow of point 2 where it wasn't anything to get exciting about. So bad...

Renewal is a facility created to grow crops in the desert, and Manifest is a port that was going to be destroyed by rising sea levels, until the government built the seawalls over by the Russian deployment. And for anyone still reading and curious, the reason all the operators are different nationalities and called “no pats” is because most of the worlds nations fell, so the “non patriated” people had to pick a side between Russia/the US in the resource war. The superpowers use no pats as liability free soldiers.

“This generation’s Beanie Baby” oh my God you’re right. As for the “Fortnite Formula,” you have to give Fortnite credit for actually having an enjoyable and not as costly system. In games like COD/Battlefield, there’s no purpose except for paying $30 for hands. In Fortnite, weapon skins can be applied to everything including vehicles and cost as much as camos in Call of Duty in 2012. Fortnite also doesn’t have a SBMM system that matches you against better or worse players based on how much money you spend. $20 in Fortnite also gets me a Boba Fett skin, his jetpack, a Slave I glider, his Gaffi Stick as a pickaxe, and an emote plus currency leftover - AND I see my cosmetics at all times. Nowadays Call of Duty charges you $20 for weapon camos that can only be applied to one gun by masking it as a “variant.” In short these companies saw Fortnite’s monetary plans and did their best to make it as scummy as possible (looking at you Halo Infinite, charging $20 for a weapon keychain). We’re at an incredibly dark point in shooter games and I wish players would support things like Enlisted or any other indie shooter studios as opposed to paying $70 just because it’s a recognizable video game title.

This isn't THAT terribly surprising... The Farming Simulator franchise consistently moves about 2 million units per year just on PC and consoles (and it has a large mobile presence as well), it's insanely successful in it's own right. Now granted, 2 million units per year doesn't hold a candle to Battlefield games that are well received like BF4 and BF1, games that have sold 15-20 million copies each... But it can certainly compete with flops like BFV and BF2042 when the servers are basically ghost towns one month after release.

I miss the days of good old BF2 on PC. Strike at Karkand, running around as a medic or support. Or even the more recent BF1 was pretty good. I just want that experience back. Being part of a massive battle with distinctive sides, and specific roles to play. No stupid fucking operatives or other tacticool shit.

    • @control_the_pet_population

I loved BF2, despite it being a buggy, laggy mess a lot of the time. But in a lot of ways, it put the writing on the wall for everything wrong today... forcing people to play on the "company servers" if they wanted to compete in the "ranked" games to earn the "unlockable" rewards... All precursors to the current microtransaction mess.
All that said, when everything came together, it was a blast to play... And it was the last BF game that actually had a somewhat active modding community actually morphing and improving the game (while also hosting their own servers). Of course, all that nonsense had to be shutdown once the EA Company Store had useless digital chotchkies to sell.

BF2 is a masterpiece. It started off somewhat shaky due to it's ambitious makeup, but not long after it became glorious. I have very fond memories playing Karkand Infantry only on a local server (25ms). Playing medic with the G36E has yet to be topped for me. The DLC for BF3 was a nice effort but the map was way too small.

IMO Specialists should be treated like Heroes/Villains from Battlefront. You get points during combat that you can save up in game and spend to spawn in as a specialists. That would fix a lot of problems imo, and EA wouldn't have to remove their precious Fortnite/Apex/Overwatch marketable characters

As a majority console gamer, the laat nail in the coffin was crossplay lumping the two very different communities together. PC people stomp console gamers (Besides specifically tailor titles like GoW and Halo), it ruins the experience.
The largest and first nail obviously being removal of specialists, "CoDifying", and overall quality plummet.

@@smilingbandit4975 i thought it came out in 2002 and had sold 3 million copies by 2004. I also remember it not being a disaster.
Battlefield 5 sold HALF as many copies a year after release than battlefield 1, the game that preceded it. Dice and EA could have taken the L and come up with a gameplan but instead we got this. Even in the Wikipedia article there is a distinction made where "Upon release, Battlefield 2042 received mixed reviews from critics and negative reviews from players". Its a good thing that video game reviewers arent gamers and arent the players that pay for new games.

I hope that if enough people call out big developers on this crap (especially their hypocrisies and BS they try to feed us), that maybe, just maybe one day it will be more appealing for companies as a whole to make a good game rather than an empty experience that includes a digital outfit vending machine.
