The reason cosplayers do the characters justice, most of the time, is because they actually love the original material, instead of seeing it as a cheap product to push. They don't love the show, they don't know it, they just go through the motions, cheaply.
I made a cosplay out of bedsheets essentially glued together, and at the convention I wore it at, they had swordfighting and I did it in that slapped together costume. There's no excuse

Actually Faye in the anime doesn't do "stunts". She is pretty good with a machine gun, but I don't recall her ever needing to fight hand to hand, jump out of 3 story buildings, etc. etc. In fact, I recall that if she was not in the Red Tail or whielding iron, she was getting kidnapped.
In Jupiter Jazz she kicks at least one guy's ass untill Saxophon guy steps in. Looked like should would have been able to handle the situation similar to how Spike did.

I still love the “fayes costume is bad for stunts” like when the Netflix adaption has thigh high boots and a close fit leather jacket. Both of which tend to restrict a lot of movement versus simple turndown boots and a woollen jumper.
Faye didn't do that many stunts or karate fights in the anime anyway. She shot guns or got captured. She wasn't roundhouse kicking a room full of guys who all die instantly from the air coming off her toes.
The "skimpy clothing" excuse is, I would assume, scientifically BULLSH×T for the reasons mentioned here, on top of the fact that less clothes in general to weigh you down will mean you can jump higher, run/swim faster, etc. She's confusing revealing with constructing, which is possible both for heavy and light clothing. Wasn't the female lead in 5th Element basically wearing an outfit that made it look like she was tp'ed and was doin flips n sh×t? I haven't seen the movie but I have ah... seen pictures 👀
The real insult is that she's showing fans she doesn't know the character she's playing, her past, her feelings. She's playing a character she knows nothing about beyond her image and expects you to support her. It's one thing if a company makes changes to push an agenda, but they couldn't even find an actress that cared about the role she was in. John Cho knows he's not perfect for playing Spike, yet he did everything he could to show fans he respects the character.
Historically, this wasn't new... a person wouldn't know the character they were working. Occasionally, they wouldn't care either... the difference today, however, is that they make it abundantly clear that they don't care and will rub it in the face of people that DO care. You aren't allowed to care about something unless THEY tell you what to care about, or how to care about it. Sad.
It's worse than that because she and the producers are probably against the image of Faye too and have to make her ugly, manly and be in charge of the team to fit with the Feminist narrative. If they had any creativity they wouldn't steal other people's characters to subvert them and instead would create their own.

The funniest thing about Daniela's video is that she acts like she was destined for this role. It was preordained upon her birth that she'd play the character. That's why she brings up the time machine.
There's no replacing Megumi Hayashibara. Model, voice actress, singer. It was a role about a woman who knew herself as an invincible fem fatale who'd forgotten the innocence of childhood confronting that. A commanding sexual presence is a part of that storytelling, and she's not less of a woman for finding her lost innocence because once she's found that she can admit to one of her only friends in her messed up life she doesn't want him to die. I don't think the shell of a woman without a past, before Ed reconnected her with childhood, could do that. The Faye role honestly needed an actress who is okay being a model, because you have to have the shell to break the shell. Megumi did it wonderfully, but she's great in all her roles, Daniela is just a foreign knockoff.
I don't know anything about Cowboy Bebop but that actress's response was so condescending and full of ego it was repulsive. I have no interest in watching the show, just because of how vile she was to fans in her response.

I love how the creator of the show has said "I don't have the power to stop it" That's always a good sign definitely makes it sound like it'll be a faithful and excellent recreation and not some sort of apocalyptic corporate train heading right towards an endless precipice
aight chill out folks. That happened during 2019 and well before filming. He took a look at the original script and had some problems and gave them notes. He said himself that he doesn't know if they used his notes. If I were a betting man I'd say they did, because they've brought on a writer from the anime (Hajime Yatate) to help rewrite the entire series - he's got a writing credit for every episode. If you are looking for an adaptation that is going to be faithful to the original I'd say this is the closest we've gotten so far. It's certainly got the potential to be a whole lot more accurate than edge of tomorrow.

Its down to 'tense', in this case they are using present tense because they use isn't instead of wasn't which would put it in the past tense, it doesn't change the word in this case but eg, the word save, if someone saves up they are doing it now whereas if they have done it previously, they saved up. Note, the them is a single person in this case, even though them can be used to denote plurality which is also correct for the word they. It is all down to the context of the sentence and it is one of the many reasons why English is considered one of the most difficult languages to learn.

@Mike Dalby I think that's more of an indictment on the state of Western standards of beauty, and the people that make it in that industry. A lot of actresses who are stacked get the worst end of the stick, even compared to actresses as a whole. Pervy directors, crass attention from fans, you name it. There are a few actresses who are the exception to the rule, though. Kat Dennings, Christina Hendricks, Alexandra Daddario. They're all fairly attractive women who are DEFINITELY not flat, and who have had major roles in film and television. That said, if you're taking into account other things like apparent ethnicity and other sorts of physiological features... Well, it can be hard to find an actress who fits every criteria perfectly. Sometimes you gotta make sacrifices. I don't think that casting a less busty actress is the end of the world, and I doubt I'd say boo about it EXCEPT that she made such a goddamn fuss in that video she made about her poor self esteem/how she sees her own body. Danielle isn't a bad looking woman, but goddamn if she didn't open her mouth and prove that what beauty she's working with really IS skin-deep.

Female fans with criticism just don’t exist, apparently. There are ways they could’ve altered Faye’s costume to have it be more recognizable, and more in line with her characterization in the source material. But they deliberately defeminized a FEMME fatale, which probably doesn’t bode well for how she’ll be written in this adaptation. Not to mention the costume is just so plain, kind of looks like a last minute Faye Halloween costume. Where you have to explain to everyone what your costume is supposed to be.

I always thought Faye was a really cool example of a positive female character. She had been used by men both literally and figuratively, and her reaction was to make herself strong. She overcame her weaknesses and exploited her strengths; using mens' fixation on her body against them-- but not only that she also became a competent pilot and gunfighter. Dressing scantily (in what seems to mostly be pretty sturdy fabric with the exception of the stockings) was part of her act, part of how she used men and played those who would've preyed on the younger version of her. But uh... I guess "where boob go" is a easier criticism to reject since it doesn't require artists and writers to actually justify their creative decisions.
I always wonder if those people have ever actually met a chesty woman in real life. If nothing else, a visit to a local strip club should convince them that being top-heavy doesn't stop someone from doing some pretty impressive acrobatics.

Then he started to lose money, contacts and friends, he had a kid, etc. then the real Matt was exposed publicly and his entire career crashed into nothingness within months, getting the same number of views as Anita Sarkeesian or a commercial channel with millions of subscribers, but 30 views per video. After getting caught trying to gaslight the community groups who were at that point, willing to believe his side of the story... Nobody will forget the Boulder King. His current reputation is somewhere between Chris-Chan, MovieBob and DSP, a self-inflicted implosion due to his trend of sociopathic tendencies to cry in videos for attention, cowardly run away from conflict or the truth, he creates strawman arguments and strawman enemies when his opinion can't be defended, has been caught deleting/revising opinions if he has an unpopular/hot take, and will readily manipulate the narrative and blame others. It's never Matt's fault when he has a bad or evil take, and his reviews are often hollow or 90 IQ, similar to MovieBob. The most important note, is that Mundane Matt didn't get Cancelled, he got caught in a lie for something extremely petty, and especially heinous because of the loss of revenue that comes from a community strike. Talk fast and blame others for inadequacies, then leave and block people when losing the argument. He was probably one of the few 'pop news' pundits that were making money in 2015-17, then his narcissism kicked in and became desperate, like DSP, blaming everyone else in the same niche that came up from 'behind' and became more popular, and did his job better. He has a similar "grifter shine" as Movie Bob or Rich of ReviewTechUSA, and as noted, in the heyday of "KillStreams", ie the "edgy content boi's", Dame Pesos got his account flagged with a community strike on a few different videos making fun/personal attacks of Matt Jarbo/Mundane Matt. Matt, trying to get attention, then got caught on the KillStream, trying to prove his 'innocence' after Dame Pesos's account was community flagged. If I remember, he had been refusing to talk to people similar to DSP, as he often was trying to 'prove his innocence' despite leaving several other livestreams when he felt like people didn't believe his story, or guests were brought in that he didn't want to talk. With one infamous excuse that he was "collecting boulders in a local quarry for his garden". After being cajoled to prove it or be shunned by the wider community, Matt was shamed into sharing his reporting history, people saw he'd been flagging dozens of videos of different accounts over a year, etc as Matt scrolled past very quickly once the page loaded, people saw it wasn't a one-off, but a pattern. His moderate audience left, he got crushed by the algorithm, and people rapidly unsubbed once his opinions started to unravel, blaming people for his videos not being popular, etc. Matt will never outlive being caught in a straight up gaslighting lie.

I theorize that the actress’s complaints about her not having the right body are because the costume designers made negative comments about how she wouldn’t be attractive in Faye’s outfit anyway.
I think something similar happened to Harley Quinn. They tried to make her more of a rolemodel for girls but the thing is, she was always weak to Joker and in a shit relationship, that was the whole point of the character. She did start to liberate herself with the whole Poison Ivy arc but I feel the way that they messed with her in birds of pray just was out of character and it was a direct result of this idea that every character that's beloved has to be perfect person according to the woke culture model. Most of the characters that are truly beloved are that way because they express something people feel they can't do themselves, eg vialance and sexuality.

Actually Faye in the anime doesn't do "stunts". She is pretty good with a machine gun, but I don't recall her ever needing to fight hand to hand, jump out of 3 story buildings, etc. etc. In fact, I recall that if she was not in the Red Tail or whielding iron, she was getting kidnapped.
I think she got into a fight once or twice in the show.
Faye's strong suit is deception and sometimes it doesn't even work.
In Jupiter Jazz she kicks at least one guy's ass untill Saxophon guy steps in. Looked like should would have been able to handle the situation similar to how Spike did.

I still love the “fayes costume is bad for stunts” like when the Netflix adaption has thigh high boots and a close fit leather jacket. Both of which tend to restrict a lot of movement versus simple turndown boots and a woollen jumper.
Faye didn't do that many stunts or karate fights in the anime anyway. She shot guns or got captured. She wasn't roundhouse kicking a room full of guys who all die instantly from the air coming off her toes.

The real insult is that she's showing fans she doesn't know the character she's playing, her past, her feelings. She's playing a character she knows nothing about beyond her image and expects you to support her. It's one thing if a company makes changes to push an agenda, but they couldn't even find an actress that cared about the role she was in. John Cho knows he's not perfect for playing Spike, yet he did everything he could to show fans he respects the character.
Historically, this wasn't new... a person wouldn't know the character they were working. Occasionally, they wouldn't care either... the difference today, however, is that they make it abundantly clear that they don't care and will rub it in the face of people that DO care.
You aren't allowed to care about something unless THEY tell you what to care about, or how to care about it. Sad.

There's no replacing Megumi Hayashibara. Model, voice actress, singer. It was a role about a woman who knew herself as an invincible fem fatale who'd forgotten the innocence of childhood confronting that. A commanding sexual presence is a part of that storytelling, and she's not less of a woman for finding her lost innocence because once she's found that she can admit to one of her only friends in her messed up life she doesn't want him to die. I don't think the shell of a woman without a past, before Ed reconnected her with childhood, could do that.
The Faye role honestly needed an actress who is okay being a model, because you have to have the shell to break the shell. Megumi did it wonderfully, but she's great in all her roles, Daniela is just a foreign knockoff.
I don't know anything about Cowboy Bebop but that actress's response was so condescending and full of ego it was repulsive. I have no interest in watching the show, just because of how vile she was to fans in her response.

aight chill out folks. That happened during 2019 and well before filming. He took a look at the original script and had some problems and gave them notes. He said himself that he doesn't know if they used his notes. If I were a betting man I'd say they did, because they've brought on a writer from the anime (Hajime Yatate) to help rewrite the entire series - he's got a writing credit for every episode. If you are looking for an adaptation that is going to be faithful to the original I'd say this is the closest we've gotten so far. It's certainly got the potential to be a whole lot more accurate than edge of tomorrow.

@Mike Dalby I think that's more of an indictment on the state of Western standards of beauty, and the people that make it in that industry. A lot of actresses who are stacked get the worst end of the stick, even compared to actresses as a whole. Pervy directors, crass attention from fans, you name it. There are a few actresses who are the exception to the rule, though. Kat Dennings, Christina Hendricks, Alexandra Daddario. They're all fairly attractive women who are DEFINITELY not flat, and who have had major roles in film and television. That said, if you're taking into account other things like apparent ethnicity and other sorts of physiological features... Well, it can be hard to find an actress who fits every criteria perfectly. Sometimes you gotta make sacrifices. I don't think that casting a less busty actress is the end of the world, and I doubt I'd say boo about it EXCEPT that she made such a goddamn fuss in that video she made about her poor self esteem/how she sees her own body. Danielle isn't a bad looking woman, but goddamn if she didn't open her mouth and prove that what beauty she's working with really IS skin-deep.

There are ways they could’ve altered Faye’s costume to have it be more recognizable, and more in line with her characterization in the source material. But they deliberately defeminized a FEMME fatale, which probably doesn’t bode well for how she’ll be written in this adaptation.
Not to mention the costume is just so plain, kind of looks like a last minute Faye Halloween costume. Where you have to explain to everyone what your costume is supposed to be.

I always thought Faye was a really cool example of a positive female character. She had been used by men both literally and figuratively, and her reaction was to make herself strong. She overcame her weaknesses and exploited her strengths; using mens' fixation on her body against them-- but not only that she also became a competent pilot and gunfighter. Dressing scantily (in what seems to mostly be pretty sturdy fabric with the exception of the stockings) was part of her act, part of how she used men and played those who would've preyed on the younger version of her.
But uh... I guess "where boob go" is a easier criticism to reject since it doesn't require artists and writers to actually justify their creative decisions.

Matt, trying to get attention, then got caught on the KillStream, trying to prove his 'innocence' after Dame Pesos's account was community flagged.
If I remember, he had been refusing to talk to people similar to DSP, as he often was trying to 'prove his innocence' despite leaving several other livestreams when he felt like people didn't believe his story, or guests were brought in that he didn't want to talk.
With one infamous excuse that he was "collecting boulders in a local quarry for his garden". After being cajoled to prove it or be shunned by the wider community, Matt was shamed into sharing his reporting history, people saw he'd been flagging dozens of videos of different accounts over a year, etc as Matt scrolled past very quickly once the page loaded, people saw it wasn't a one-off, but a pattern.
His moderate audience left, he got crushed by the algorithm, and people rapidly unsubbed once his opinions started to unravel, blaming people for his videos not being popular, etc.
Matt will never outlive being caught in a straight up gaslighting lie.

I think something similar happened to Harley Quinn. They tried to make her more of a rolemodel for girls but the thing is, she was always weak to Joker and in a shit relationship, that was the whole point of the character. She did start to liberate herself with the whole Poison Ivy arc but I feel the way that they messed with her in birds of pray just was out of character and it was a direct result of this idea that every character that's beloved has to be perfect person according to the woke culture model. Most of the characters that are truly beloved are that way because they express something people feel they can't do themselves, eg vialance and sexuality.
