How to Turbo Your E36 Ep.2 : MOUNTING THE TURBO (BMW 325i Drift Build)

Hey buddy.
I have a lot of tips that i want to share with you.
1. Put piece of metal mesh on your turbo intake.It stops rocks going in.
2.Buy or weld(tig) new manifold.That one has really bad placement and its going to cause a lot of problems.
3.Move your turbo closer to the front of the car.The more piping you have,more lag you have.
You are going to have decompression and lag.Unless you are running intercooler on top of the engine,just move turbo either up so it sits above hood since you dont have one,or just place it under stock radiator.
4.Get appropriate pipes for running boost.Dont try to skim out and buy something from Walmart or Harbor Freight.
5.Get adjustable wastegate.On hot days you'll want to turn it down a bit,and you will have to dissasemble half of the car to change spring.
6.Since you are running stock internals,i dont recomend running above 10 Psi.
7.MUST:Dyno tune the car before and after,and get boost,A/F and oil temp gauges inside a car.
My story:Im 26yo AM racing driver.2 seasons ago i built BMW 325i racecar with ebay turbo.Since i was in 2000-2999ccm catergory,my turboed e36 was placed in 5000+ccm category.
I was dominating last season since 270hp engine and 900kg car is pretty nimble and quick compared to heavy stangs and chevys.
Of course,there were few corvettes that gave me headaches,along with wicked 7 series racecar.
I crashed it in July,and swapped to supercharger,and gone full drift build.
Now building a 05 Subaru WRX blobeye racecar.

CME hey just Incase you didn't know the m50/m52's came with forged internals from factory. You can run more than 10lbs safely just don't try anything crazy, those blocks should hold upwards of 500bhp before having to swap to better internals!
Head gaskets are known to go out around ~10 psi but other than that they are great to build on. Steel blocks from the factory.
Mesh? Folks need to quit sacrificing their motor fro an extra 5 hp, it needs a filter on it!

Ended up getting frustrated and got rid of it is my assumption.

Hope the turbo isn't too low. The oil drain must be able to run back in the pan by itself, or else the turbo will eat the oil (pressure in the bearing will rise and push out the oil). Bought a 325i with low mount turbo once, it had an extra oil pan for the turbo and a pump to send it back to the engine. That was so bad, fail al the time and it smoked like crazy.
Also had trouble with my Volvo when I put a bigger turbo on it, then the oil return had a small turn, and same problem again.
The oil drain line must be as straight as possible and higher than the oil stand in the engine.

I like how spaced your manifold runners are. I'm using a SPA bottom mount and the runners are so close and tight that the motor has to be out for access to the exhaust nuts.

Clock the turbo right feed straight on top and drain straight down .....that should safe your turbo bearings

Looking good dude, bring back the shark teeth tho. I would love to turbo mine but stuff appears to be really expensive here in the UK! Like are fuel is £1:17 a litre man. I have a long list of things I want to change on mine, but it looks like it would be cheaper to buy a different car with the parts already on it, even tho mine is a really solid rust free shell. Keep up the good work, oh yeah I think that's real dedication doing the conversion in a car park :)

Yeahhhh my bottom mount set up issue right now is that the turbo I have has an internal waste gate (which would be awesome) that hits the side of my engine block... I took my turbo right apart put the exhaust housing up to the manifold I have and I can't even get the exhaust side on with the internal Waste gate:(
Just ensure that Turbo CHRA Oil drain pipe is large and goes into the TOP of the sump above normal Oil level in sump!

So you won't have problems with the motor mount get polyurethane motor mounts they are less bulky and you won't have problems in the long run

You are going to run piping and have the airfilter away from the ground right? And i think you might scrub the air outlet on the turbo when you start running pipes and hoses to the intercooler because theyre going to sit low...

🤙So I have a Q I got my turbo pipes cleaned up and remove any oil and make them tight and it make a whistle noise now when I start to open up the throttle and when I close it the classic flutter noise.but now the car feels tighter
Before I clean it it was making no whistle sound just the flutter and it was very louder. plus at high speed I felt the car kick forward like a small push idk if it was from the turbo any ideas my friends?
Love it and your videos , but you should have waited and picked up a Garrett turbo , this Ebay turbo .. i don't think it's gonna last very long expect a change in like 4 month maximum
Mrgamingcraft I ran ebay turbo in my e36 for 16 months.
It was not street legal,it was track day car,but since i am AM category,i attend track days 2 times a week.
I also raced this car,4 times with ebay turbo,holding up just nice.
Just change oil a bit more frequently,use oil cooler,and let car idle a bit so it doesn't seize.
Now i switched to supercharger because i crashed the bmw and i want to learn to drift.
Im building a 05 Subaru Wrx mk2(blobeye) as my new race car.
