As someone who lives in Los Angeles, the most unrealistic moment in scream 3 was how Cotton was able to just get out of rush hour traffic up on Mulholland and make it through Hollywood and Highland without a problem! That said, I would have preferred this opening you read here. Much stronger.
This opening sounds more graphic and emotional like the opening we got but, the only differences are that the audience knows Cotton and his life story not Ben’s and Cotton’s was hard to watch while Ben’s was shocking and out of nowhere.
This has always been a favourite channel of mine. But I have to say, content like this is in a whole class of its own. This is definitely the most underrated Scream channel imo (I think it’s because he is British)

Interesting, this script not only shows that Christine Hamilton was supposed to be the actress playing CiCi in Stab 2, but that Ben Damon most likely was supposed to be the Steve Oarth of the og Stab 3 as he was the oppening kill and the next victim was Sarah Darling who was playing Casey...
This would have been such a great opening scene and it could have been iconic if Freddie Prinze did play Ben. I feel like the Cotton opening was underwhelming and they could have saved his character to appear after the opening. They would have decided on Cotton being the opening kill for the emotional pull but having Freddie as the opening would have been more memorable especially given that the opening to the first two films are more memorable.
Since the Scream 3 opening is my favorite of all of the openings, I like the original more. This one here is a good opening too, but I like how Ghostface tricked Cotton and Christine with the voice changer.
Honestly I wish they'd used Maureen's murder as the opening for S3. I also think they should have saved Mrs Loomis as the villain for S3 (with Roman, united by their hatred of Sidney & Maureen lol) instead of for S2, but that may not be a popular point of view...

It could work, but Scream 3 already had Gale, Jennifer and Dewey doing the investigations, and the rest of the cast aside from Sidney and Mark were the Stab people. I like the Ben Damon opening but I liked the Cotton opening too. If I was writing, I would've done something completely different. Instead, Ghostface calls and kills Sidney's Dad (who would have a better chance of knowing where she is) and then Cotton joins forces with Sidney during the movie and acts as a father figure toward her. A nice full circle as he was initially her enemy, because of the whole Maureen thing, and then the movie ends with them on good terms after he helps them unmask the killer.
For some reason I could see this in my mind playing out, like how the scene would be, how the camera would be, especially since I’ve seen a lot of movies that’s taken place at the Hollywood sign. I could just somehow see how this scene would look. Badass
This hit home for me as in the summer of 1999 I was sexual assulted by one of Freddie prince Jr friends while I was modelling in Los Angeles at the time I was 20 years old and the gang I was involved with were full of douce bags and I met Freddie he was so sweet and he was nest friends with this asshole who assulted me at the back of a car

I prefer the ending we got; Scream always tries to one-up or twist what was done before, so with "3", instead of having a new character in the opening, we got someone we knew, almost a straight line from where "2" ended. This scene, if it had to be shot, would need to punched up; the last line from Ghostface is beyond cheesy and doesn't make a heck of a lot of sense ("you lost the role, here's your parting gift"). Not to mention, there was no tension/suspense with "Ben" arriving and Ghostface already doing away with the girlfriend, it would lackluster. I know I'm horribly biased as "3" will always be my fave of the series, but I think the opening we got checked off all the boxes. Thoughts?

I saw Scream 3 in theaters opening weekend & the whole movie felt off in comparison to the first two entries. The audience's reaction (or lack thereof) helped cement that feeling as well. Somewhere between exploding houses & the neurotic, annoying mannerisms of certain castmembers, it felt too...Hollywood, I guess? Other than the established link with Cotton & of course that chilling, "If you're watching this, I didn't make it" video from Randy; Scream 3 did little to make its audience care about the victims before they're killed off--or at least not in the way the first two films accomplish that. I agree. This opening with Ben Damon & Christine feels more on brand--even though, as you said, the Cotton version adds some emotional weight. That version somehow doesn't feel like it belongs there. It never did.
I think making a truly great opening after the original is just hard. If it’s randoms, you won’t care. If it’s a core character, you’ll be mad. The opening of the original only worked so well because killing the biggest star in the movie in the first 15 minutes had never been done before. You can’t do that now because if a massive star shows up in the opening, you’ll know what’s up. So how do you open these movies with a bang? With character deaths people will care about? You don’t. Because they haven’t been able to again since 1995 really.
S3 started in a great way. Cotton Weary was a prison guy, also a big fellow, and Ghostface managed to end him, that put this Ghostface in a new level of menace, but also created the idea that Mark was indeed behind the mask. Never thought that Roman can ended Cotton, that's why there was always the doubt that if Mark ended Cotton, because he believe Weary was guilty, therefore that was a police Punisher Frank Castle style of resolve an issue.
I do like that opening but like you said what we got was emotional. When I saw 3 opening weekend and it opened with Cotton I muttered to myself "Not Cotton"

I don't like when people are killed off screen in Scream. The same happened in Scream 4 and they even shot a scene that shows the killing but they didn't put it in the movie, it wasn't excellent, but it showed, I wouldn't have liked this either, but the concept is a little better without the voice changer.

I also don’t believe a somewhat famous actor would waste so much time talking to a male fan just because he recognized his voice. At least with Cotton’s scene, they were flitting so I bought it a little more.

Feels the same, but I DO like how it’s the essence of Casey, the glasses French doors and Steve, yet it should’ve been similar to how Maureen and the movie theater should’ve been with an audience watching unable to tell the difference between reality and a Hollywood cash grab stun. Perhaps killing Christine in front of an audience or build board outside where a crowd gathers as Ben arrives to late to save Christine only to be offed in front of a crowd of on lookers. At this point the lines between reality and fiction are or furthered blurred for the audience.
I have to admit that I like the one we got better, the "but I'm the killer" line makes it too hard for me to take this seriously. Maybe the idea was better but I didn't like the excecution.

It’s true Helen was originally supposed to be the sole survivor but the duration of filming ended up going pass her scheduled time for Buffy so the studio had them reshoot the chase scene & switch character fates. Ray Originally had Max death & Elsa originally had Barry Death. Max gives Helen & Julie a ride to the shop Max gets killed in the shop and Helen & Julie gets separated in the alleyway and Julie dies in the alley while Helen finds a police officer at the parade. Barry originally dies from getting hit by his car.

This was always my favorite alternate opening when I read in the late 2000s. So similar but so grand of an idea at the end

Maybe Freddie prince jr Mr.Schinder the husband to Leslie macher image mr.Schinder being the mastermind behind this new legacy sequel don’t forget Freddie was audition for billy lommis it be interesting if he comes back to the scream franchise
Feels the same, but I DO like how it’s the essence of Casey, the glasses French doors and Steve, yet it should’ve been similar to how Maureen and the movie theater should’ve been with an audience watching unable to tell the difference between reality and a Hollywood cash grab stun. Perhaps killing Christine in front of an audience or build board outside where a crowd gathers as Ben arrives to late to save Christine only to be offed in front of a crowd of on lookers. At this point the lines between reality and fiction are or furthered blurred for the audience.

I have to admit that I like the one we got better, the "but I'm the killer" line makes it too hard for me to take this seriously. Maybe the idea was better but I didn't like the excecution.

Pls do a video on Helen shivers character from ikwydls I heard there rumours she was suppose to live but it was changed bc the studio wanted a higher kill count or SMG schedule was too busy at the time I’ve always wondered if this is true or not. But there been a lack of evidence around the topic as ppl that know say they read it or saw it in a interview which they do not remember
It’s true Helen was originally supposed to be the sole survivor but the duration of filming ended up going pass her scheduled time for Buffy so the studio had them reshoot the chase scene & switch character fates. Ray Originally had Max death & Elsa originally had Barry Death. Max gives Helen & Julie a ride to the shop Max gets killed in the shop and Helen & Julie gets separated in the alleyway and Julie dies in the alley while Helen finds a police officer at the parade. Barry originally dies from getting hit by his car.

I think that extremely strange changing Helen fate from the sole survivor to being killed and having Julie and Ray live instead
@@gamingoutlaws9765 Freddie spoke about it in a podcast stating that if it wasn’t for Sarah becoming busy with buffy and forcing the script to get changed he would’ve never been a lead and stated that he only got the role of Fred because the director was a fan of the movie & originally wanted Sarah & Jennifer to play Daphne & Velma which led to Sarah telling the director she’ll sign on if Freddie plays fred

Hopefully radio silence Will implement into their scream 7 requel of scream 3 they could use Kevin Williamson original script for scream 3 and replace them with all the new characters from the present trilogy
I wouldn’t have minded this opening but with Cotton instead since we know him and it would make more sense than 2 random actors from a stab movie

I had a feeling that someone else from the cast of IKWYDLS should be in the Scream films. Jennifer Love Hewitt could be the killer in 7 if they want.
This would’ve been epic vs the weak opening we got esp if Freddie Prinz JR took the role being married to Sarah Michelle Gellar who played Cici Cooper in Scream 2 and the obvious I Know What You Last Summer tie in with the Jennifer Love Hewit line.
