Gotta say - as a life long fan, this has been THE best interview ever of him. These are things that are none of my fucking business, BUT, it’s amazing to know more because I grew up with them. Much love from Seattle, would love to talk to Chino!
26:00 the Coconut Teaszer! 54:50 Bob Ezrin! 1:31:07 Teething! Man, what a beast of an interview. No member of the band ever talked THIS detailed about the band's beginnings. THANKS Chino for allt he stories and Toby for the podcast, awesome stuff! EDIT: Just realized this interview is already 5 years ago! Glad it got recommended to me!
This was recommended right after steve-o had Maynard on his podcast. Tapped on this right away. Chino is my favorite singer. Really excited for crosses new album coming soon.
Loved Deftones since I was a kid, kind of started listening to them more just a few years ago, a lot of times they're the only band I'll listen to. When I would play them, I felt like I had a lot of relatable vibes with Chino. I felt like it was almost a Godly connection. Haha. After listening to this, it's almost like my intuition was spot on. I love this guy and his band, and I feel like listening has been a part of my healing journey in life. I hope to meet him, and maybe play some music one day I love singing their songs. Plan on starting up my channel and covering their tunes. Long Live Deftones!
I genuinely enjoyed this podcast! Deftones have always been one of my faves and to be able to take my son to see them for his 1st concert was one of my favorite memories. I am the same age as Chino and It’s amazing to see my kids generation , ranging in age from 15 yrs to 18 yrs to 28 yrs know and really appreciate all the bands I grew listening too and the music also share the same love for music is fucking awesome! We go to sopshows together I feel like im gettting to relive some awesome memories and lucky and blessed enough to make some really special new memories with my kids ! Thanks for the music, the great discussion and continuing to be apart of so many cherished memories in my life!
For anyone who knows West Sac, Tower was over off Harbor. They had two locations and I worked next to their book distribution warehouse at Rock Vision. Don and Chris were the owners. Several musicians worked there and it was a blast. Its a poster distro so we pulled and boxed orders. I’m curious if Chino and Chi worked where the books were or at the other spot which was more the marketing merch I think. We would dumpster dive and take what were basically the album art but on one sheet of cardboard album sized. So cool.
i really question the timeline of sergio quitting the band because of this. chino doesn't sound the slightest bit mad at sergio in this at all at the time of this interview. sergio a couple months before quitting said he was selling his ax fx amps at the time only to make studio space but then said he quit a year before it was announced. something doesn't add up.
Just a thought….maybe he wasn’t that mad to begin with? Like from what I heard I thought most of the dissatisfaction was on Sergio’s side?? Idk I haven’t had time to really look it up. Or maybe chino was upset in the beginning and later on he moved on and was okay?
Call me crazy, but I think it's absolutely adorable how he's: *loud chewing * *even more chewing * like... like.... I should know that... like... Blah blah blah whatever... *chewing
Having emotions is one thing but you really shouldn't let your wife or your kids see you crying, even if they deny it they respect you less, your woman especially. That's almost a surefire way to get her to consider cheating. You really have to be the man of the house
lmao you're just trying to rationalize why every woman you've been with has cheated on you. Have you ever considered that maybe you're just not a likable person?
Can you maybe stop talking bullcrap? "be the man of the house" is just a shitty argument. I respect Chino even more, because he just doesn't give a shit. Show your emotions, people.
