New album is an absolute blast, not a bad song on it, all killer no filler. Superb

@@asr1143 Ohms is soft? That's gonna be a no from me dawg. You are right we won't see a WP or ATF but that was 20 years ago and they have evolved and gotten older. Be happy with the present
asr 01 I would rate it 8/10. If you don’t like basic riffs, you probably hate a very large number of their songs. Not being as heavy isn’t a real critique, it’s just you not hearing what you want them to do, but they just grew in favor of creating atmosphere & depth. Going back to super heavy would be redundant & playing it safe, they’ve done it to death at this point

Love it. I shuffled the songs to start but then listened to it straight through. I was blown away. It’s a denser record in sound and structure than some of their previous so I’m excited to absorb it over time.
Definitely would say Ohms ranks higher than Gore, at least some of the songs. Right now I’m truly enjoying Pompeji, Genesis, Ohms, Error, This Link is Dead, and Headless. There’s definitely vibes of previous albums present, but some songs felt like they didn’t flow very well. Ceremony and Urantia I’m really not feeling at all.
When I think of Deftones, the songs that pop in my head are: Bloody Cape, Romantic Dreams, Diamond Eyes, Sextape, Kimdracula, What Happened To You?
There’s a level of depth and flow that stands out to me tremendously. Ohms kinda lacked that. Still had some decent hits on there so I’m not complaining and I’m ready to see them on tour for sure!

I feel that Chino has focused more on the sonic impact of his vocals rather than his lyrical composition, which pays dividends. His ability to soar across and often take control over the overwhelming power that Steph contributes is something that isn't new, but no less impressive. The musical ability of Deftones is on full display on Ohms and is a pleasure to explore.

On first listen I was a little unsure, but after multiple listens im absolutely lovin it. Pretty standard for Deftones in that regard

I wish they wouldn’t have cut the song short. It’s ok to have songs longer than 5 minutes, guys.
Agreed that songs can be longer than 5 minutes, but with "Ohms", it's perfect the way it is. I don't see where they could've extended the song without it sounding repetitive or adding more riffs. Mind you there's only 5 riffs in the entire song.
i wanna say MX is 35 minutes long but the most of that after is like...silence it's weird, but it's the outro track so
Their longest song must be Passenger, Fireal or Rosemary, 6 min songs.
They jam on stage longer! I think that’s why. Ohms is short but a great mix of sounds and enough to keep us busy until the tour and release of Black Stallion.
Rosemary and Tempest are both 6 and damn near 7 minutes long.
ohms is the best album musically since SNW
I really enjoyed Diamond Eyes and Koi No Yokan so I think Ohms is the best musically since those albums since I thought Gore was subpar imo.

@@santapa_ KNY was probably their most creative album since White Pony imo. Just super ethereal, shoegazey walls of sound with the melodies perfectly balanced inside of it. Ohms is definitely a grower though, took a few listens to some of the tracks to really absorb it

The new record for me at least is absolutely brilliant. Been playing it non stop like I’ve done all their records. The more I listen to it ,the more I like it. Finding new things in the same song is always a good thing. And there are 10 tracks. So I’m in for a ride!

I love the voice of this interviewer jajaja God, Chino is one of the few artists I always look up when trying to redefine myself, because of his ability of evolution and self-construction

Good songs take a while to a appreciate, great songs take a while to hate, but legendary songs can be the ones you hated the most (until you come full circle).
Deftones can be all of them.
I just recently started listening to Deftone’s thanks to my dad’s best friend who’s a super fan of them.
I thank him for that
White Pony is their masterpiece. Will always follow them though.

I love Ohms. This album is up there with SNW, Self titled, Koi no Yokan, and white pony for me. I love it. It feels like a solid successor to White pony and koi no yokan.

Yeah, you are finding melodies but..all of them turning out uninteresting...until one day. You are playing 2-3 notes and saying "YES. THİS İS İT.
And worst of all, it isn't about working hard or being clever, it's just a mix of luck, idea and trying countless times

"You find writing to be difficult" yeah! :) The lyrical content of Deftones is really awesome, because it sounds a lot like he's just "in the moment" improvising the lyrics, emphasis on the chanting, and the tone, and whatnot.
The album sounds like around the fur / white pony mixed together. brings back memories. DEFTONES fan since 99

The only thing I have to complain about Ohms is that Stephen is not "in front of the mix" such as in Diamond Eyes or Koi no Yokan. It felt like a much better Gore, at least for me, but it is an absolutely amazing album.

As a long time deftones fan of 25 years now, I gotta say my first listen of the album wasn't what I'd thought it'd be. This album I hope is a grower, as I was kind of confused by Ohms. I mean sure, it's deftones, but I also wasn't really blown away by it in any sense. Not hating, just hoping it will unfold on me more with each new listen. I realllllly hope.

I read the interview where he talks about not connecting with the material on Deftones (self titled) anymore. That might explain why they havent written anything with that same power again.
Hogman 5000 yea he said he was in a dark place when they wrote that album. I personally loved it. “Bloody Cape” is probably my #1 Deftones song. It is therapeutic for me.
